Over the past decades there were only a couple jewelers the fam would do business with. Regal or Vitha. Vitha is now gone and Regal, here to stay. Due to the relationship, level of customer service and attention they pay my folks and family, we continue to buy. I like that they honor some old school price haggling because my Ma is an old Indian lady that still likes to ask, "give me a nice price, okay honey." With a smile. Some of my older relatives do this also. It's just a gimmick. Their sellers know how much leeway can be afforded. Which is highly dependent on the purchase type. Of course if buying gold, always good to know the market values before heading in to make a purchase. It's just wise to know in advance. Gold prices rise and fall at different times due to market volatility, good to check the paper, the Internet or ask your Uncle.. somebody's Uncle always gonna know that the rate has gone down and it is time to score some sovereigns for the family estate! Speaking of sovereigns, coins, bouillon, biscuits and the like it's good to do some research prior to walking into any jewelry store. That's if you're buying for investment purposes. There is always a fee that a jewelry store gets above the price of the gold type. On the by chance you are looking for some of that curiously detailed Indian style jewelry, there is much to be seen. And if looking for the stuff that looks too good to be true but doesn't really have gems in it, go to their textiles store next door for all the best in costume jewelry. When seeking out specialized jewelry gifts, it is one of the few in Little India that most recommend. Cash is king and could possibly allow more haggling. Regal is probably not the best place to go if you need your jewelry fixed, especially if it's a piece that has a lot of sentimental value. They broke a ring that was taken there to get fixed and a whole piece of gold fell off. This ring had a lot of sentimental value as it was a wedding ring. In my experience when a business breaks something or does something that is clearly their fault they usually will compensate you some how for the sake of customer service, but regal did not do any such thing. That's fine they don't need to but they could at least not charge us. They ended up charging us for a service that we didn't even get. read more

THIEFS!!!! I usually don't write reviews but I had to for this one because I want everyone else to be careful when they shop or get any service from Regal! I have bought a lot of gold and diamond jewelry from Regal in past 20 years! I had bought a gold chain from them which had come off from the hook, took it to them for repairs and Jay told me no charge since I had bought it from them. The lady who makes the slip again asked to pay even without repairing the chain, I told her Jay said no charge , she went and confirmed with him and wrote on her portion of slip and gave me a small chit with number on it and told me to bring it to pick up my chain. It was such a small piece of paper ( like a bingo ticket) that I lost it somewhere. I called them and they said how can we give it to you now without the slip? Seriously? I said you wrote down my name , check my ID and give it to me. I sent them a photo of my chain(, glad I took I pic at their store before dropping it for repair )and then kept texting for 3 weeks but no response. Finally I went to pick up, again same thing without slip how can we give you. I showed my chain pic, texts to Jay and said if you want to keep it , just let me Know or find a resolution on how to return my chain! Jay comes out who was in the back room after 15 minutes and finds his text messages and gets my chain from the back room in a quick second! Which they had been saying will be hard to find without a receipt! I am shocked to see my chain! It's smaller than what I had left! They stole the gold off my chain ! I couldn't believe it' and then he asked me to $40 repair cost! I was like what? I told him he himself said no charge but he said we have no record of it' ! I asked for the slip they wrote on, he said that slip goes to repair guy and they have no record of it! How are they running the business? No receipts for customer , no records for their paperwork OR they are doing it deliberately to give the customer a runaround to either keep the customers jewelry or get more money out of the customer! I was so upset that I have trusted them for so many years and now they not only STOLE gold from my chain and asking for money to repair. Jay said cash or debit card! I won't let you take your chain without paying ! I have him money and left but again no receipt, no records what was that money paid for and if my chain breaks again? Nothing! They are THIEFS ! Our family has been going here for the past 20 years and keeping the trust in them I went back to buy a certain kind of bracelet that I couldn't find anywhere else but they had it. I purchased it and they claimed it was "pure silver" and it wouldn't change color. So I trusted them and bought it for around $300, After 6 months I took out the bracelet to wear and it turned color. They had claimed it wouldn't change color but it did. When we walked into this shop, we were handed over to some 20 something woman, who is presumably the owner's daughter or something. We were looking for bangles for my wedding. I have pretty big hands, so I got used to the condescending saleswomen saying I just had to learn how to put bangles on my big hands(i.e. just let it scrape the side of my hands when I put them on and grin and bear it) instead of them offering real advice or a good piece that could work for me. So when she did that, it didn't surprise me. But what did surprise me was when she asked what stone was in my engagement ring. It's a tourmaline (my fiance's birthstone), and I'm pretty proud of how unique it is. I told her, and she said, "Oh what is that, a 7 on the Moh's scale?" And I said "7-7.5", knowing where this was going. She then proceeded to tell me how that's too soft for daily wear. So, first off, it's not too soft for daily wear. Different women wear their rings differently, and for desk job, my ring is perfectly fine. Second off, why the hell would you insult my stone when you're trying to sell me $2K worth of jewelry?! I get that maybe she was trying to impress me with her gem knowledge (they're one of the few jewelers on Devon who seem to be trying to cater to American engagement rings) but how is that knowledge anything but insulting?! These people are tone deaf and try to rip you off, just like you'd expect from a jeweler on Devon. Go to Joyalukkas. At least they're a little less awful. read more

I feel like I could have got a better deal if I had bargained more. The sales ladies at the jewelry side were polite and helpful. However, do not fall for their prices. They also have their clothing section right next to the jewelry section. I am sure you will hear buy one get one free for everything here. Do not fall for this either. If they ask for $150 for a salwar kameez, the actual price would be $40 or something. This place is only good to shop for people who are good at bargaining. They do not accept American Express. Racist establishment! My husband is white and he went to check what time they close, they told him 8pm and buzzed him right in. He went to pay for parking, and my sister, mother, and I tried to go in, they waved us away, and did not buzz us in! We went around the corner and my husband went back and they buzzed him in again! Little did they know we were right behind him. While at the door they told us they closed at 7:30pm. Funny they couldn't buzz us in or crack the door to tell us they were closed. We told them they were racist and very rude and left! To top things off, we later saw the little 4-5 year old girl who was in the store with her mother, one of the owners, on the street on the way home. I have travelled to Chicago gold shop for couple of hours with a good impression about regal. I had done my own research and cross checked the price over phone with different stores before stepping in to the store since I had very short time in Chicago. The experience I got could have been much more better. Matter of fact, I had very bad experience with regal, may be I will never visit that store in my life time. The customer service is the worst part and the manipulative way they tried to over charged irritated me.They whisper price to customer's ear and it varies from customer to customer. I felt, they are dishonest, cheater and not transparent with the quality and price. While asked, they tried to defense themselves with manipulative list of import tax, vat, shipping charge, insurance, making charge etc, they mixed and match very inaccurate information of India, Dubai, London and USA in a manipulative manner to convince. The most irritating part is the attitude the owner's son showed. He literally mentioned- look at our crowd, we are doing great business and we are not feeling bad to lose you as a customer. My parents had bought me two nose rings from here which were unfortunately too small; and were going completely inside my piercing. Like most places, once a nose ring is purchased the sale is final. Although I had only worn one of the two nose rings they still were unable to take them back, which is completely understandable due to hygiene purposes, but they were still able to accommodate me.
