Pam and Pat Holtzmann are the most phenomenal folks around. When you're in their store, you feel like family. They are super friendly, and made you feel comfortable from the get-go. They are both super patient, and they really take the time to educate you on different stones, and different aspects of design to help make sure that you're creating a jewelry piece that will last a lifetime with proper care. We ended up having my engagement ring and my husband's wedding ring made by them, and then after having my husbands wedding ring made, I ended up wanting to make a more feminine, mini-version of his ring to be able to wear myself as well, and they helped us make that too. The quality of the jewelry pieces we received is outstanding, and working with Pam and Pat was the same. We valued getting to work with them so closely on pieces we plan to wear a lifetime! Although we had rings made, Holtzmann's specializes in all types of custom jewelry. We happened to pop into the store at the tail end of another couple leaving who had the most beautiful custom bracelet made, and at another visit saw someone picking up a necklace that they had redesigned with stones from a different necklace they no longer wore anymore. found these late 2000s-early 2010s roberto cavalli frames at goodwill in very rough condition…read more(broken on both sides and hot glued together) for $2.99. managed to get the hot glue off with sandpaper last night, bernal took care of the rest. he was honest with me that a perfect repair wasn't possible (he tried like four times but the frames were a little bent and there was too much pressure so it wouldn't hold) but he was able to make it happen by slightly overlapping the piece that broke-- totally ok with me because i am a visible mending warrior. as close to good as new as they were ever gonna get and tbh if u can tell they were ever broken you are probably too close to my face! can't wait to look insanely good in these all summer

The second time, I came back to buy the same ring, along with a bracelet and maybe the necklace if I didn't get it the first time. I wasn't given the no‑tax price this visit, and I'm not sure if the owner remembered me, but the experience was still very friendly. The deal was $99 for $225 worth of jewelry. I stopped by at the end of the month, eager to check out what they had, but I was kind of disappointed to find out that they didn't have much in my price range or really anything I liked. I knew I didn't want to spend more than my youswoop (or not much more at least)-if I'd been able to afford the next step up, I would have. I can't remember who helped me that day, but he was very nice and told me they planned to have their new store (at 28 N. Wabash) open come March, and that they'd have more in my price range by then. I walked by last week and their new store was still closed (Samir told me today that they hope to open next month). Bummer. I decided to go in today to their booth location at 7 South, because well, my youswoop was burning a hole in my pocket (as these things do). I'm glad I did. Samir was really nice and very helpful, showing me things in my price range. Unfortunately (and the reason this is not a 5 star review), they still didn't have much around $200-$250 ($25 over my youswoop, the max I would've spent) I'm fairly certain the purpose of the youswoop was to discount bigger purchase like an engagement ring, but I still would've liked them to have more options. Anyway. They have some beautiful pieces. Many things you won't find at most jewelry stores, which is pretty cool. Samir helped me select some Sapphire earrings after much deliberation on my end. I'm very happy with my purchase. You may find yourself now asking, "What, praytell, will keep you going back to Mon Ami, when you don't have much money and they don't have a lot in your price range?" The answer is simple. You see, my sapphire earrings are yellow gold. Anybody who knows me knows that I loathe yellow gold (save for literally two pieces of jewelry, one from my husband, and one that belonged to my grandmother). So when I was looking and found these earrings, of course I asked if they had any in white gold. They did not. However, Samir said that they would dip them in w.g. for me, and that I could pick them up tomorrow. What really sealed the deal for me with Mon Ami was that he told me that they normally charge $10 for dipping, but he would just take my youswoop as the entire payment (earrings were $200, tax was $19 or so), and for me to not worry about giving them the rest. I really appreciated that, even though it wasn't a huge difference in cost. That gesture will be what keeps me going back to Mon Ami-it's how you get yourself a loyal following. Thanks, Samir!
