First time visiting this theater and did not have a good first impression. Cashier was slow and messed up transactions making us pay twice and not explaining what was happening. Just standing there with a blank stare. Theater was an absolute mess. Waited for someone to sweep or take out the trash all over the floor. Somebody came 20 minutes into previews and swept the corner by the stairway for 1 minute and left. Popcorn stale and cold. Side of nacho cheese tasted expired and butter on popcorn was off. Also if you don't purchase one of these overpriced snacks they don't even check tickets. Definitely understaffed and management doesn't care about the state of their theaters. read more

We saw Wicked here last night and the state of the theater was genuinely shocking. Multiple chairs were hanging from their hinges unusable (including the seat I paid to sit in), it seemed like trash from the entire day of movies was still left when we showed up for the movie, and we waited 30 minutes after the showtime for the movie to start. And most of that 30 minutes was ads and not trailers. And this wasn't the worst in the world but they were entirely out of popcorn at 6pm on a Saturday. I've been going to this theater all my life and never had an experience this bad. Felt like I was in an alternate dimension for a few hours. Would not recommend going here anymore. Terrible customer service. Went to the movies to see a 3 o'clock show. When we arrived at 2:45, we were offered a 7 p.m. showing. We said we wanted the 3 o'clock show. I showed the cashier the time listed on our local online news. The cashier said the times listed are sometimes wrong and we needed to use the Regal site. I checked the Regal site and the times listed for the evening shows were 6 and 9. How can we make a plan to see a movie when the two online times are conflicting and the cashier's time conflicts with the website he said to use as a reference? The cashier was rude and condescending. It will be a very long time before I return to the theater. I did try to contact the theater directly and there is no contact. read more

I just saw dune 2, 5:15 showing, Saturday... there were two ten year old boys who from the very beginning before previews left and entered the screening no fewer than a dozen times - I'm not exaggerating. A man sitting behind me had to yell at them to turn their device off, they were watching YouTube or something loudly. Considering that, with previews included, the show was more than three hours long - longer than any other movie - and they came and went sooo many times never accompanied by an adult, the boys must belong to a staff member. Even on the off chance it was some parent who dumped their feral kids for some free time, how didn't the staff ever notice? Beats me... the garbage experience and uncomfortable seating will have me streaming the next movie in comfort, they come out so quick now. Thanks for the memories. read more

Hello to all my readers out there! Hope your day/night is going well. My next adventure took my wife and I to the regal cinema in Sonora, California. It was a horrible experience from start to finish. Let me explain. My wife and I chose a movie to go see and we used the regal app to buy tickets. Since I am a regal unlimited member my ticket was free my wife's ticket was 12 dollars. I paid in advance and the ticket part of our experience went fine. We went to get some of the popcorn people told us regal has the best popcorn around and guess what they were all out of popcorn on a Saturday evening!! What kind of theater has no popcorn! Then my wife wanted a drink and they were out of her favorite drink as well! It's beyond mind boggling that a theater doesn't have cherry coke! They were also out of nachos and pretzels as well! They basically didn't have anything to get besides ice cream and candy. We didn't get anything and left the severely outdated concession stand highly disappointed! Then we made our way to the movie theater fully expecting nice recliner seats like the ones in our local area. NOPE! Regal cinema in Sonora, California is still using the seats from the 1990s! Some of them weren't even usable! There was trash left in the seats from the last showing! Clearly they do not care about keeping the movie theaters clean at all!! Then came the "movie" itself! 30 minutes of ads! We didn't come to a theater to watch ads. If we wanted to watch ads we would have stayed home and watched TV. Then there was so many previews that the start time of the movie was off by almost twenty minutes! A lot of people talking during the movie and some sort of confrontation during the movie as well. Looked like some kid sprayed somebody with soda. It was a huge fiasco! My wife and I will never come back to this regal cinema. It needs updating and people need to learn proper movie manners. I went to the theater twice this week back to back days with family. Within these visits I saw crap on the wall of the bathroom, none of the paper towel holders having batteries or paper towels, trash can over flowing in bathrooms and in front of theaters, no soap in the soap dispensers, as well as 2 theaters Ac not working, candy rack that was not stocked at all, and 2 out of order stalls and 4 others locked for no reason, neither of the theaters we were in were cleaned at the time of the showing, popcorn absolutely every where at the beginning of the hall ways on both sides, all of witch happened on both days. And witnessed a manager sell two minor children tickets to an r rated movie (maXXine 9:50) opening night after selling us our tickets. This was extremely disappointing visit, as I have an extensive movie theater background and this is no way to run a business. read more

My movie hasn't event started yet, not satisfied and I am already 99% positive I will never come back to your Sonora location. We came to watch the 6:30pm showing of Inside Out 2 on Tuesday 6/25. Walking in gives the feel of any other theater. We walk to the concession stand to get snacks and purchase tickets. We get 2 dipndots, 1 large pop corn, one small life water bottle and one large life water bottle; 4 movie passes for 2 adults and 2 children... $94. $94!!! For what?!? You don't even offer alcohol! We walk to our theater, probably I'd say 6:23pm, the screen is off, it's the old flip down seating- weird I thought most every theater had updated, even our po-dunk theater in angels camp has pleather recliners with tray tables. We sit in our assigned seats and I'm instantly met with a stagnant urine smell from my seat. Ew. I move over a few as the theater is empty. The screen did not come on until 6:30. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what was worth $94? We usually go to our Angels Camp theater but happened to be running errands in Sonora so we decided for here. I am instantly regretting it, I asked my fiance if it was ethical to return our movie tickets and just take the snacks. Our theater in rural Angels Camp, California, not only has the nice recliner seating but also offers alcohol, for less than half the price of your theater. I've asked managers why not charge extra at point of purchase to which I've been told too expensive to cease now. Pre ordered tickets online for showing of Dr Strange at 4pm today. The previews started and it went blank. The manager came about 10 mins later and said he was working on the projector. 30 minutes without update they came in and said it wasn't going to be fixed and offered a 3d showing 30 minutes later. We accepted that offer. The 5pm showing 3d was unfocused and did not work as well. If they can't manage basics it should not be open. They offered ticket refunds but no comps or refunds on concessions we spent on hoping to view a movie. The worst part this is the 2nd horrible experience in the past month. I kind of like this place. Its never super busy and not that many people here. The older employees are very friendly and nice.

Me and my son have the regal movie pass. We have been using and enjoying it for over a year without incident all over california. This location in sanora ca is the first to deny my son. The staff claim it's regal policy to not accept a minors pass even with an adult present. I asked to speak to a manager about this policy but apparently the manager couldn't bother to come in to work on a monday and the staff as nice as they are have no authority to speek with customers about this "new policy" i just wanted to discuss sence like i said we pay $45 a mo th for the two of us and this has never been the case at any location we have ever visited over the past year and a half that we have had these passes. As far as I am concerned the staff was very nice but management needs some serious help in there policy making. As I will not be coming back to this theater. And every time me and my son go to a movie even with the pass we get popcorn and two sodas so that's $20 twice a month for twelve months they won't be getting plus the occasional candies and video games. I will break it down for the manager because as far as I can tell they probably need it. This more than $480 a year from just this one customer that you are loosing as it's the same drive for me to go to another theater. Well it's sad they have NO competition in this small town. With that said - you can drive to Riverbank and pay the same price for large recliner seats with the option to purchase beer & wine to enjoy during your show. But since we are talking about this theater ... seats are uncomfortable, girls restroom always smells of urine with at least one broken down stall with toilet water leaking onto the floor, and now you have to wait in the long concessions line to purchase your tickets (give yourself extra time to purchase tickets). Now I wish I had a zero star option... In addition to my complaints from before, I have now found some new ones. First let me explain: I have not been back to this theater in several months, but got a gift card for my birthday, so I thought I should probably use it. What the heck happened to this place? It was dirty for one thing, then two of the strangest things... 1- They had almost no printed movie advertisements (those big card board things they put out in the lobby, or the window stickers, etc.). Instead, they had hand painted ones that had been painted over top of old ones, and hand painted stuff in the windows too. SO weird! Not that I would have a problem with this if it was the theater's way of recycling, but I kinda doubt that's the reason. 2- There used to be two benches on either side of the lobby for people to sit. For some strange reason they're now gone. No where to sit if you're waiting for someone. What an unusual decision! I can't for the life of me think of a good reason for them to be gone. Are these things symptoms of a failing business? They're the only theater in the whole county, so they don't even need to be good for people to go. I guess I have one more reason to feel bad for the employees. I'm not sure if these places are independently owned franchises, or what, but whoever is in charge needs to get their act together. Start providing a living wage and benefits to your employees, and clean the place up! You're pretty much the only game around (except for a great little independent place over in Angels, but that's too far for some people to go) if you're messing this up, you've got some problems! read more

The staff are wonderful, and this is a very clean, efficiently-run theatre. I wanted to write this review because I believe that this theatre has an unfairly bad reputation. I think that some of the other reviewers have unrealistic expectations, for example, independent films operate on a much lower budget than the big blockbusters (Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, James Bond, etc.). Sonora is a very very small area with an equally small population in comparison to other cinema markets. When an independent film company can only afford to make 100 or so prints of its film, best believe Sonora California will not be high atop the studio's list of where to send that movie. Unfortunate, but true. It's one of the downsides of living in this beautiful rural area bordering a National Forest; can't have your cake and eat it too. Also, I would never expect to go to the movies in ANY city (Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Dallas, Berkeley, Oakland, Modesto, Sonora...) and not wait in any sort of line. That is completely unreasonable. How about some respect for the people who are working their butts off when there is a long line? The showtimes are created in such a way as to optimize business; studies repeatedly show that the majority of people like to go to the movies in the 1-2:00 hour, 4:00 hour, 7:00 hour, and 10:00 hour. That being said, the showtimes tend to be "bunched" together no matter which cinema you go to. Additionally: Many of the showtimes for larger movies are mandated by the studios and are not a result of any planning at the theatre level, for better or for worse. Also: No movie theatre allows outside food or drink, and every movie theatre has high priced concessions. Why? Because cinemas only receive a minutiae of the profit from the box office sales; the concession stand is what keeps the theatre open. It is what pays the wages of the employees, it is what pays for the upkeep of the theatre, and it is what allows the theatre to remain in business. While I do not agree with all of the business practices of Regal Entertainment (for example, cutting employee hours so as to avoid paying for their healthcare), this is not a review for the corporation as a whole. It is a review for the hard-working folks who keep this quality theatre running smooth in this beautiful little town. Kudos to the employees, staff, and management of Regal Cinemas Sonora Stadium 10. It's your standard issue big city Regal Cinema that you know and love without the big city crowds. I'm still amazed how easy it is to get a good seat on opening weekend for big ticket movies. The prices, snacks, and restrooms are standard issue - and that's ok. What I really love is the Regal Crown Club. There's a smartphone app and it's really easy to rack up points and receive rewards like free tickets or snacks. Pro tip: if you show up and see that the line for purchasing tickets is really long, you can bypass the line by buying tickets on the fly via the Regal Crown Club app. read more

I don't understand all these negative reviews. I've been coming to this theater since it opened. I've never had a single lousy experience. Staff is pleasant. Theater itself is clean. ( come on...munchies and kids are an automatic train wreck! ) Concession stand is, well, a concession stand. Neat and tidy and chock full of all the empty calories one can handle in under 3 hours. What more could you ask for? Reclining chairs, gourmet entrees and booze? Head to Modesto. Me? It's been about a year and a half since my previous review, and my hubby and I have been here at least 30 times since my original review. Concession wait time really depends on the time you go. Sometimes it's really quick, sometimes everyone came in at the same time. There's no way to blame the staff for that. Restrooms are consistently clean every time. Theaters are consistently clean. We came here to watch The Peanuts Movie in November. The experience was ok. Theater was a bit dirty and employees didn't seem too enthusiastic about working. The theater itself was an ok size. Plenty of parking. I wasn't impressed with this theater since I expected it to be a big box chain theater. I realize it's located in a smaller town, Sonora but somehow I expected more when we went in. We did sit behind a noisy family and to our left, there was an adult guy who had some type of disability. Every so often, he would let out a scream and kept rocking back and forth. This was distracting, but I do applaud his caregiver for taking him out on a special movie day. I'm giving it three stars because the theater served its purpose and we enjoyed The Peanuts movie itself. read more

Today was the last time I will ever set foot in this movie house. I don't know if it's inept management, untrained employees, antiquated equipment or they just plain don't care. The problems started at the old location and i guess they decided to continue the tradition at the new location. This time it was black flickers about 8 times and the house light came on in the middle of the movie not once but twice. In the past it's been out of focus, out of frame, scratched film, bad sound, too cold or hot, roof leaking, ceiling tiles falling, rude audiences and to top it off an unresponsive staff. I think the bad reviews changed this theater. We went here for the very first time. I was skeptical at first to visit this theater of the bad reviews. I love going to a decent theater that is inviting and doesn't have any problem. I had to change my mind for one time because I wanted to see sicario 2 and didn't want to head back home to Manteca to watch the film because this theater was the only one showing this movie unless I wasted to go to Modesto. Yes, this theater is old and does have a little smell, but that's all old theaters. My theater is an amc theater and is a little newer than regal, but the seats smell. Seats and floors are sticky. Popcorn has a bad odor. I would rate my theater a 3 out of 5. I gave this one a four, just because the theater is just old. The popcorn tasted great. The seats are outdated but were more comfortable for the age it's in. The screen was an exceptional size for a theater. I would return to catch another flick. Hopefully soon! read more
