This movie is close to where we live so it is a good option for us. We went and saw One Love about Bob Marley. The place is a little worn and the seats are not overly comfortable. But it is easy to park there, easy to get tickets and popcorn. The only annoying thing was when we were in line for popcorn this guy working there pretty much sweep the tops of our shoes off trying to sweep up the popcorn people had spilt.

On a Thursday afternoon we entered an empty parking lot--or maybe 7 to 8 vehicles. Every ticket window is closed. Printer signs say Tickets at Concession. Two registers open. Pick a line where groups of 3-6 are not only buying tickets but 3 course meals--oh wait, it's only drinks popcorn and candy taking this long. Arrived 20 minutes prior to movie starting and now have 7 minutes left to wait through these lines for just a ticket to sit down. Employee asks us to pick our seat tickets from the screen. Seriously? The theater is empty. Eanie meanie miney mo %\ seats chosen. Movie time with non to spare. Enter theater and it's entirely empty. Search for designated row, seats. Two others show up in theater. Thankful we didn't come here on a weekend. Imagine the line at concessions just for a ticket to sit down. It's now 26 minutes past show time still watching advertisements in empty theater in designated seats. I've forgotten what movie I'm here for...

There really aren't enough stand alone theaters anymore. In my experience they're connected to huge malls and always really busy. And while they're usually outfitted with latest plushy reclining chairs and smell like buttered popcorn there's something missing. It's really hard to convey the look of nostalgia you get from the big regal neon lights in a shared lobby with a lens crafters. That's where regal Virginia center shines. As you pull into the parking lot you're blasted by the pure neon colors that have made regal a trademark experience. When you walk in you see the familiar sights you've been missing but didn't quite know it. The ticket stand, the popcorn machine, the row of snacks, etc. However along with retro theaters comes outdated spaces. The floors inside the theaters are linoleum, the entire space is on the same level, and (you guessed it) there are no reclining chairs. Even still, I can't fault the Virginia center too much because I would trade all those amenities in a heartbeat for that ear breaking audio from my childhood. I'm talking about when the soundtrack just comes blasting out of the speakers with no regard for what a human should actually be listening to. With all that in mind make your decision. I'm gonna go again but maybe it's not for you. All I ask is you see your movies in theaters. It's just worth it.

This has been a horrible theater experience. Crowded concessions stand...nothing but teenagers and employees who are both slow and untrained. The seats are dated. There was a second concession stand unopened, which would have helped the line. When stating that to ourselves a rude employee commented that it was "too expensive To open". Which makes no sense because it was stocked. We are out of town and wanted to see the Avengers, but should have listened to the reviews. Lesson learned! Do not got to this theater if other options are available.

Just nasty.... it is old and musty. Feels stinky, dingy, and grim. Small screens and 2nd rate sounds system.

The only reason I go there is that it's the only theatre in the area that plays Bollywood movies and I'm a huge fan of those.

Movie Tavern Marcus Theater continues to be my favorite theater in Williamsburg, and my experiences…read moreover the past couple of years have consistently been pleasant and never disappointing. The theater is always neat and clean, with a bright entrance and interesting movie posters. The café is welcoming, and the staff is a true highlight of the experience. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a genuine smile and a welcoming attitude. The staff is incredibly friendly, polite, and patient, ensuring every step of your visit, from ordering at the café to having your food delivered to your seat, is seamless and pleasant. Their dedication to great service truly sets this theater apart. The food and drinks are a major highlight. There are many delicious choices, and everything is consistently tasty and served hot. The popcorn, in particular, is far superior and fresher than what you get at other theaters. I love the convenience of ordering food and an adult beverage right from my seat and having it delivered hot and quickly. The selection of on-tap beers is also a nice touch. The reclining seats with leg supports are super comfortable, making for a truly relaxing movie-watching experience. Best part is free refills on your popcorn, which is great since I like to take a bucket home with me :) Whether I'm catching a $6 movie on a Tuesday in one of the smaller theaters or a full-price movie in the main auditorium, it's always a great time. If you're looking for a theater with excellent food, comfortable seating, and friendly service, this is the place to go.

Today was the Final episode, but thankfully the manager helped us so very much. She looked at the receipt and helped us to our seats, even bringing us popcorn and drinks for us. I asked her for her name, but I didn't register it into my memory long enough. I think it was Janet, but I could be completely wrong. This showing was booked full!

I couldn't type this review fast enough omg Lolol. So I just discovered an interesting policy I…read morehave never heard of (I'm not from Virginia) that does not allow me entry to a showing (Jurassic) if I'm 15 minutes "late". Ironically, I showed up late on PURPOSE to avoid the previews. I asked the reason for this policy, and the black female manager did not tell me the reasons. Her exact response was "we don't let anybody in past a certain time". (Redundant). I don't think it was a difficult question that I asked, nor did I present as nasty or flustered. I asked very plainly the WHY, not the WHAT, and she could barely make eye contact with me. I then asked "well, is it because it interrupts/distracts other patrons?" And she said "yes that's one of many reasons". Lmao Why she couldn't just share the reasons with me, was very unprofessional. Perhaps she's used to disgruntled customers and was prematurely impatient with me?.... But girl.... I am kind and being patient with this very weird theater lmao. Or maybe she actually didn't have the answer for me. Who knows. 1 Since late patrons are being stopped at the ticket booth, does this mean they're not allowed to purchase popcorn if the previews are about to end? 2 By this logic of interrupting other patrons, doesn't that mean we aren't allowed to use the bathroom once the movie has begun? Anyway, I asked for a refund which I could not get due to me purchasing my ticket via Fandango. My other option was to catch the next movie showing , which would be a $3 up charge because it's in 3D. I don't like 3D but at this point... I've already lost the battle I asked the manager..... "so do I pay for the $3 up charge via fandango, Since you guys have nothing to do with my initial payment transaction? " Of course the answer was no. I was obligated to pay them directly. (Capitalism?) My goodness... The inconsistency in conjunction with the weird nonchalant attitude of the manager was an unnecessary annoyance for me. Like... I can't get a refund NOR CAN I GET A CLEAR EXPLANATION?! I'm from NYC and have never heard of this policy before, so an explanation would have actually made things clear for me. But instead I was met with no eye contact and weird body language. I was sincerely confused and not being an asshole. I'm also an actress and therapist, hence my attention to personalities and communication. Anyway I ended up paying the $3 difference, and was then instructed to go inside the theater, 20 minutes early. LMAO !!! I guess she missed the part where I said I don't like previews (may I suggest a customer service course for all staff?) I asked "how much time do I have"? And she said "15 minutes". So I ended up waiting in my car. *sigh* This is why movie theaters are going out of business now . All this trouble, and overpriced movie snacks, when I could just wait for the film to be streamed online, with popcorn that doesn't cost $1,266. Bonus: I was here last week to see Megan 2.0. There was an afternoon showing, that my friend and I were unable to purchase online for some reason (the night before...) So we decided to just purchase tickets here in person, the day of. Turns out, the showing was completely removed as an option. From both the kiosk and the staff operating system. We ended up leaving and driving to regal cinemas near Ashland instead. I prob shouldn't have returned to this place after the Megan 2.0 issue, but I decided to give bow tie a second chance. But honey, I'm not baseball so there won't be any third strike options with me. This is my first (and last time) in RVA. Lord! I am realistic, so I do not expect for other businesses to thrive like the ones we have in NYC, but whew! It's very very very clear why it will never compare. I mean, Jesus... it's a slow Monday afternoon. The theater is VERY empty and this whole thing was so dramatic and avoidable. Maybe consider using this specific policy ONLY during peak hours? I'm no business woman, nor am I an entitled Karen, but im a sincerely confused out of town visitor who wants y'all to do better. Also, Please don't be harsh with that black manager by the way, it's not her fault that these policies exist. But she could definitely use a customer service refresher course.
