1. There's no price on the blankets, had to wait in a long concession line just to ask. A thin blanket is $20! 2. The women's bathroom was dirty before and after the movie. If I could've waited, I would've. 3. It was raining so the lobby floor was wet. Not a wet floor sign in sight. 4. The back row in Theater 8 is literally the same height as the row in front of it.. it's like the row was added on at some point. If you're too short, you can't see past the chair to see the whole screen. 5. The screen was small. 6. In the back row, we had to put the recliner down for food runners to get past. And that was several times throughout the movie. One food runner actually walked over my reclined legs as i was struggled to push the right button to put it down. Then they hit the tray table next to me and popcorn went flying. They definitely hurt themselves and i felt bad. But this is also probably a longstanding issue. 7. In one of the back row seats we paid for, you had to turn your head to even see the screen. Otherwise, you'd be looking at the emergency door because the screen doesn't extend into the POV of the chair correctly. The only good things from my experience were comfortable chairs, central location and great ticket prices (paid $26 for 4 tickets). read more

The reclining seats with leg supports are super comfortable, making for a truly relaxing movie-watching experience. I really like this movie theater chain, but I feel like I'm one of the few who feels this way based on the Yelp scores of this place and others we have visited across the country. I'm always a sucker for movie theaters with lounging seats, a full bar and food service. If you're ordering food, you can either order at the bar and have it delivered or order it on your phone inside the theater. There was so confusion on the food delivery, where wrong items kept being delivered to us but the server was very apologetic about it. It was actually kind of funny since I'm sure everyone in the theater thought we were the biggest eaters in the world! Our seats were dirty but the staff quickly came in and helped clean it up. And again, very apologetic. They also jumped immediately into action, which usually isn't the case of when I complain about something in DC where we live! For some reason, we also kept ordering items that were no longer available on the menu -- the ultimate mac & cheese, the spinach artichoke dip, one of the salads. I feel like we basically picked out all of the things they no longer served! I've been coming to movie tavern for over ten years, but I was inspired to write a review after my last visit as I feel they've made some amazing changes. They have recently updated the seats in all of the theaters to luxurious recliners. So, so comfy! Movies are so long these days, so it's nice to have some cushion on the backside and Movie Tavern definitely did not disappoint! The ticket prices are comparable to other nearby theaters. As far as the food - this definitely isn't a five-star dining experience but it was an enjoyable dinner! The food came just before the movie started and was hot and fresh. Classic American-type fare, reminiscent of a Chili's or similar. The dinner theater novelty is hard to do right, but I'd say Movie Tavern is on the higher end in terms of quality. read more

My wife and I are frequent visitors to Williamsburg and have considered checking out Movie Tavern several times. Finally took the plunge this time, as we've been looking for a chance to see the new Fantastic Four movie and the timing was just right. Very pleasantly surprised! We went on a Wednesday night, so the place was very uncrowded and sparsely staffed. Nonetheless, we were welcomed very warmly and given the help we needed as neophytes. We ordered specialty cocktails and chicken sandwiches, which came surprisingly quickly, and they were better than expected, very good! The movie presentation was perfect, the reclining seats were very comfortable, and overall a wonderful entertainment experience! This dine-in theater is great for a date night. When you order, you're able to pick a time and have the food delivered to your seat. When it is delivered, the staff try to be as invisible as possible as to not disturb the other people. The chairs are also plush and comfortable for watching a long movie. It is a very clean theater. I've noticed that the staff are ready to clean as soon as the credits role and the restrooms are always clean as well. My one gripe is how small this theater is. If you are wanting to see a specific movie, it may not be playing here. On 8-2-24, my wife and I attempted to see a movie and had to leave just after the movie started due to a power outage. We ordered food which never arrived but was paid for. We were told we would get phone call to help facilitate a refund. They took my information, name and phone number. I called back on 8-15-24, and was told a manager would be in contact. It's 8-19-24, and still no call. We had a great experience at this movie theater. The staff was friendly and helpful. The theater was a good size and set up to social distance. The screen was big and surround sound was crisp. We had big comfy chairs. Although they didn't recline they did lean back. We ordered a few different snack and it was all yummy. $2 pretzel bites were more than worth it and my $1 large soda was a great deal. If you're looking for something sweet go with churros. You won't be disappointed. My only issue was ordering through the app because it did not allow me to put my theater and seat number in anywhere so I spent extra time going back and forth trying to delete and download again to make it work. Love the reclining leather seats. BUT THE CONCESSION COUNTER SYSTEM IS AWFUL!!! Super slow service and the majority of the time there is only one worker. Their concession stand is the bar (alcohol) counter and is very small so they are not able to accommodate more than one (or 2 at most) order at a time. And whenever people order alcoholic drinks it takes even longer and super slow in making the alcoholic drinks because they make those right there WHILE the customers wait therefore making everyone else wait too. Whenever we go, we are in line for about 20 minutes. Such a waste of time. To top it off, you do not get your order right then and there but the kitchen staff has to bring it out to your theater seat, which takes about 20 minutes to get. Regal Theater down the street is so much better with their concessions system and they don't have an "Add Tip" line on the receipt like at Marcus/Tavern theater which pressures you to give a tip and so you end up spending even more in addition to the inflated concession prices. Went to window to purchase tickets only seats available were row f seats 4&5. No problem. We were 15 minutes early. People were arriving and finding their seats. Previews were playing, people still arriving and being served their food. Movie starts playing, people still arriving and being served their food. Second half of movie people are still moving about, maybe going to the restroom. Some are even moving to sit towards the back of the theater and I would just like to point out there are many unoccupied seats in the theater so, row f seats 4&5 weren't the only seats available. So my only complaint is if you're going to the movies and would like to be served, get there early enough so other people can enjoy the movie. Advantages include reserved seating, conveniently accessible food service, and friendly staff. The light and movement from people being served food during the movie is a distraction, but they minimize it as much as possible. It's definitely worth it on Tuesdays for $5 movies. They even provide free popcorn! $6 Thursday tickets for students is also a nice deal. They're usually a dollar cheaper than your other option in town regardless. The menu itself is mainly bar/diner food. After sampling a few things, I haven't developed a strong feeling about it either way. I kinda wished that there was an option to have the tickets sent to my phone like other theaters do but that's ok! The food was mediocre tho and definitely overpriced for its quality. We ordered the Hawaiian pizza which was like $10+ then it's $1 for every topping---that's crazy expensive. I ordered a margarita on the rocks and ordered the guava flavor because it was on the menu but the waiters were so baffled that the guava flavor wasn't on their little iPad thing...get it together.. The drink was ok, I got strawberry cause I felt bad they couldn't find guava. My fiancé ordered a cherry coke and got a second refill and it was NOT free because it ended up being $4.95. If I were you, I'd eat before coming to this theater because you'd get more bang for your bucks somewhere else.
