Cheddar's was such a great stop while visiting North Carolina!…read more While spending time visiting family in North Carolina, we decided to stop by Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, and it ended up being one of those meals where everyone at the table left happy and full. The service was incredible from the moment we walked in. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure our drinks were always filled and that everything came out just right. You could tell the staff really cared about making sure guests had a great experience. That level of hospitality always stands out and made the visit even better. We started things off with the Choose 3 appetizer, and it was the perfect way to kick off the meal. We ordered the spinach dip, Wisconsin cheese bites, and queso, and every single one of them was delicious. The spinach dip was creamy and full of flavor, the Wisconsin cheese bites were perfectly crispy, and the queso was the kind you keep dipping into even when you tell yourself you're done. For the main meal, there was something for everyone. The kids chicken strips were a hit and came out hot and crispy. I ordered the country fried steak, and it was exactly what you want from comfort food. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and covered in rich gravy. We also ordered the pasta, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The restaurant had a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, which made it easy to sit back and enjoy the meal together. When you're traveling or visiting family, that kind of comfortable environment makes the experience even better. Between the great appetizers, hearty comfort food, and laid-back vibe, Cheddar's was definitely a win for our family. If you're in the area and looking for a place where everyone at the table can find something they love, this is a solid choice.

Our waitress, Blake, came over shortly after we were seated. She was friendly, attentive, and a pleasure to interact with as she took our drink and food orders. Excellent customer service truly makes a difference! The iced sweet tea was absolutely delicious! I paired it with a bacon cheeseburger that was thick, juicy, and full of flavor. The fries were served hot, perfectly seasoned, and crispy -- just the way I like them. The only downside was the burger bun. Unfortunately, it was cold and tasted like it came straight out of the bag. After a couple of bites, I ended up removing the bun and finishing my burger with a fork. Three of us ordered burgers, and each of our buns was cold. I highly suggest Cheddar's start toasting their buns -- that simple step would easily take their burgers to a perfect 5/5! My sisters enjoyed their food. One ordered the shrimp pasta and the other, steak and shrimp with a baked potato. Now, she initially didn't receive the bacon bits on her baked potato, but Blake quickly corrected it, so all was well. Overall, this was a solid lunch experience with great service. With just a small improvement to the burger buns, it could easily be outstanding!

We were seated as a party of 5 at a long booth and ordered some flavored lemonades (strawberry and raspberry) and water. For appetizer, we got the onion rings. Our waitress was nice and friendly, seemed a little overwhelmed but I can imagine it was a long and busy day. For entrees we ordered a variety of pot pies, spasagna (spaghetti+lasagna), and chicken tenders. We had a long day out in the heat and were all very hungry so our meals hit the spot. The portions were hearty so some of us did have leftovers. Pricewise this place is hard to beat- cocktails under $10, entrees under $20 and they deliver on flavor. A few of the friends had never been here before and were pleasantly surprised, one of them thought it would be like TGIF and I explains that it was a little nicer in decor/ambience and service. There is a decent outdoor patio area with plenty of seating and ample parking available. @azfitfoodfun

She brought us Honey Butter Croissants while we browsed the menu & she kept our drinks full throughout lunch. One thing I love about Cheddar's is the portion of food for the price - I think it's a great deal! I ordered the Lemon Pepper Chicken on a bed of rice with Southern Green Beans that melt in your mouth & a side Caesar Salad for a small up charge. I had a whole chicken breast & rice leftover for the next day. My friends ordered different Salmon dishes & they ate everything. The menu is a good variety & there's plenty of seating for couples up to larger groups.

Despite being one of our staple restaurants for decades, we haven't been back in a long while…read more(mostly due to the distance factor)...and when we did, I was quite disappointed. First of all, they're no longer open for dinner...but just open for for lunch. Luckily, business still seemed good for lunch...as it was a packed house! However, there were some changes (for the worse). First of all, one of the hallmarks of Lupie's was the loud, overhead music. Granted, I didn't always love the music selection (as many tended to be Rockabilly), but music was part of what made Lupie's a fun place to be. Well, this time around, we could barely hear the music from where we were seated (downstairs). The vibe has completely changed from its "Heyday". Once a hipster hangout, the place has become a casual family spot now...with many older folks as well. I guess this may explain the reduction of music. *SIGH* Then the service. First of all, Lupie's has never been the place for sweet, friendly hospitality or anything like that. In fact, the service was always quite swift...but the waiters here have always been competent. Well, this time, it was altogether different. This older guy that showed us to the table was also our waiter. Again, we didn't expect any friendliness...and that wasn't the issue. What was the issue?? He was running around like crazy, sweating the whole time! It was obvious they were short staffed, and I get that...but because he was near hyperventilating (literally running and sweating!), it made me (and surely others?) quite anxious throughout. Definitely NOT a relaxing dining with all of that going on. Plus, I couldn't even get his attention for iced tea refill. At one point, I had to raise my voice to get his attention to order dessert...and he basically snapped back at me. Then as if that wasn't rude enough, hear me out on this! When I finally placed the order ("Kuchen", this peach cobbler dessert), he rushed that back to us WITH HIS THUMB INSIDE THE LITTLE BOWL...NOT ONLY TOUCHING THE FOOD, BUT SMEARING THE WHIPPED CREAM WITH IT. it was disgusting!! I thought about asking him to bring us another one...but decided to scoop out one third of the dessert off instead. I mean, how crude of a service was that?!? Beyond gross! Thank God, the foods still tasted the same...well, almost. I had my usual Texas Chili Mac...and while the meat still tasted good, it was a tad more salty than usual. Also, they no longer use the thicker noodles...a big letdown as far as I'm concerned.. Portions have decreased over the years as well...which was fine actually. The pricing was still quite friendly. As much as I love (LOVED!) Lupie's over the past 3-4 decades, I just can't ignore this. You do not stick your finger into your guest's foods! How repulsive is that?!?!?!? I hate to do this, but for once, our experience merited 1 star, but considering our long history with Lupie's, I'm being generous with 2 stars. I mean, FINGER INTO OUR FOODS....and not even being aware of doing it because of all the rushing about so manically?!? I call this REALLY BAD SERVICE. I'm seriously hoping that things change for the better again. I mean, I hope the management reads this, and informs the staff members not to touch the customers' foods, for one. Also, it would make for a nicer dining experience if the waiter didn't run around sweating so much. Of course, the place could definitely use another waiter or a hostess...as that may prevent all the manic running around (?!?). I seriously hope to upgrade this review the next time...if the place is still open, that is. I'm just wondering if they're in the process of closing down altogether, given the lesser hours. Honestly, as much as I appreciated this restaurant for decades, I can't deal with the running around sweating, barking and "FINGER-IN-YOUR-FOOD" service. We may give this place at one more try in the future (if open)...but if I see this type of repulsive service again, I vow never to return.
