Yesterday I attended a business presentation at Seneca Towers. The presentation was organized by…read moreJessica and Anna who handle social activities and entertainment events at Seneca Towers. They also search for better ways for tenant care. The presentation was led by Ms. Marie Rodriguez, the president of "Happier at Home". It was an interesting event. Marie has been involved in the medical field for many years. She witnessed and experienced the personal care her mother received in her final days. This inspired her to create and form a company that could provide care for the elderly. And by this I mean, "care at home". Home is where the heart is, and by this presentation it was evident that "Happier at Home" goes out of their way to work with their clients.To provide care and help so they can stay within their own homes if having tough times.. In the presentation she went through many of her companies services, and there are many. They do a "free" in-home assessment, approx. 45 minutes. But 1 of many things stood out to me. She made it clear that they go out of their way to keep the same caregiver, medical aide, on the same job for the family, patient. She compares the patients life style, habits to one of her aides backgrounds and training. All of her aides go through a training and certification program. Complete with a background and drug test. Aides, care givers, are taught about fall prevention, senior fraud, prevention,cooking, safety and house keeping. In the home assessment Marie will discuss the basic problem of the patient in need. The health challenge,medication compliance, memory concerns, and transportation. The patients nutritional needs,being isolated, home cleaning and maintenance, medical alert buttons, special phones for the hard of hearing. They offer meal planning and preparation, transportation service, shopping for the patient, house keeping, doing laundry. They also have aides for companionship and mental stimulation. The list goes on! Throughout the presentation Marie answered several questions by tenants one on one. She handed out flyers with information about her companies services and what they offer and how she governs and guides their business. She sponsored a "welcome wagon" with beverages and snacks for tenants and continued to answer questions by tenants. I was pleased that I attended this presentation and impressed with Marie Rodriguez. I think that "Happier at Home" is a well organized business. I wouldn't hesitate to call them!

I have been in and out of physical therapy MULTIPLE times for the last decade,(I have Ehler's…read moreDanlos Syndrome - Type 3, Hypermobility) and until finding Agape was unsatisfied with anywhere else I had gone in Rochester or Buffalo. I've seen other wonderful therapists at Agape, but Daniel is the physical therapist that "gets me" as a runner - and has worked with me in making sure I am staying HEALTHY and strong, while working towards of goal of either - getting BACK to running or training. In Spring - I went to Agape for extreme plantar fasciitis in both feet, posterior tibial tendinitis in both legs AND a intercostal and paraspinal strain - I felt wrecked, physically and mentally. And of course, I had a race I really really wanted to run - instead of telling me no from the get go, Daniel worked on different exercises to be able to get me to a safe place to run the race healthy. I finished my first 10k ever, and couldn't have done it with out him! I continued my at home program but was sidelined again by my plantar fasciitis and was on strict no running, rest from my doctor. I spent all of June and July, pretty much miserable with being unable to run and not really seeing any TRUE progress - I reached out to Daniel, who despite not having me as a patient at the time, answered some questions for me and gave some suggestions to bring up to my podiatrist. FINALLY on JULY 26th I WAS CLEARED TO RUN - and the crazy, won't let go of my goal, side of me signed up for the Rochester Half Marathon - giving myself exactly 8 weeks to race day - I called Agape and lovely Violet got me back on Daniel's schedule again. The last two months have been hard training wise, but my plantar fasciitis is TRULY improving, despite running, and my posterior tibial tendinitis is pretty much gone. I don't think I would have been able to sign up and train for the race, had it not been for Daniel's ingenuity of exercises and adapting a program to meet my needs. I am lucky to find a PT who supports my crazy goals - even when they seem a bit far fetched.

St. John's has dropped from a 3-star to a 1-star Medicare rating, and my family's experience confirms why. Critical Medical Neglect & Safety Risks Dietary Hazards: Despite being a stroke survivor with aspiration risks, my father was frequently served non-pureed food and thin liquids with no staff present to assist. This was a direct threat to his life. Medical Emergency Failure: When my father was struggling to breathe with low blood pressure, nurses dismissed it. They failed to notify us when he stopped eating or when a failed IV attempt left him untreated. We had to insist on a hospital transfer; St. John's refused to call 911, opting for a private transport that took 2 hours. He arrived at the hospital septic and passed away two days later. Hygiene & Infestations: The facility is infested with mice. I witnessed multiple mice running through the living area. The dining room was filthy and plagued by fruit flies. Management & Staffing Issues Callous Management: When I brought safety concerns to an upper-level manager, his response was: "You haven't shared anything that I don't already know. If you want to move him, I have lots of people who would like his bed." Neglectful Environment: Aides are frequently on their phones, ignoring residents. My father sometimes wore the same clothes for days. Residents would beg me for help because they knew the staff would not respond. Lack of Activity: Memory care residents are often left sitting in front of a TV or alone in rooms. There are virtually no activities on weekends. The "Two-Tier" Reality Do not be fooled by the beautiful courtyard or the locked "Day Program" rooms. Those resources and the higher level of care seem reserved for the private-pay or rehab floors. In the long-term memory care unit, the environment is one of "waiting to die." Summary: While a few select nurses, chaplains, and security guards are kind, they cannot compensate for a systemic culture of indifference and unsafe conditions. The funeral director noted that since COVID, "no one there seems to care." I would not recommend St. John's to anyone who loves their family member. St. John's: Do better.

Instead of promoting my independence, the lack of sufficient nursing staff caused a lack of autonomy and individuality. Unreasonable wait to be assisted to the bathroom. One time, I waited 3 hours. I waited 6 hours for pain medication because it was "forgotten". Not acceptable. The call button was put out of my reach. Most direct care staff are wonderful and doing the best they can for patients. Meals are simply awful. Not much is made in the kitchen. When the menu said "banana bread", I imagined a fragrant slice. What it turned out to be was a commercially prepared, sealed plastic bag with a greasy piece of something inedible. I self discharged after 4 days. I do not recommend this place. Still have nightmares about it.

I filled out a report and she was checked in with the hearing aid , but now they say they can't find either paperwork. It costs over 1000 dollars. The new administrator is rude and doesn't care .. Be Afraid!!!
