MASSIVE FLAGSHIP STORE. This is REI's U.S. flagship store and features a giant rock climbing wall in a glass atrium. You can see it from the freeway. The store is full of friendly sales people who will help you find anything you want or need. There are two massive floors with everything for outdoor fun and recreation. I went to buy a pair of waterproof hiking sneakers for my trip to Panama. The salesman was super helpful and I did not feel rushed. The store was not too crowded on this weekday morning so maybe this is the best time to go. I've been to the one in Tukwila but this one is way bigger with lots more stuff. If you need serious outdoor equipment, you won't find a more comprehensive selection than REI Seattle. Be advised though, it's not cheap, but the stuff is super high quality. Excelsior!

Interesting how they make up the place for people who like camping and adventure in nature. Lot of brands they carry and watch out for their promo items, there's some great stuff. Love the inside decor and there's a rangers information center in it, how cool.

This is the flagship store in Seattle. It can be low key on the corner of Yale Avenue and John street. They make you walk or run up the stairs to get to the store. On the way up, you'll see the mini surrounding forest and if you're lucky a mini waterfall. Inside there is a cozy fireplace and comfy seating. Also a huge climbing structure for those adventurers who want to try out their climbing skills. It is a huge s store and much to see. There is also a sale section upstairs with all sorts of gear to try on. Overall, this is one of the most beautiful REI's I've seen. Well worth a visit to see this unique store.

Who needs therapy when this REI is pure heaven on earth (for those outdoorsy lesbians...aka muah).. The staff are incredibly friendly, always in great spirits, and genuinely helpful. The selection here? Absolutely unmatched--ridiculously extensive. Seattle, you don't even realize how lucky you are to have this. Ugh, perfection! I mean, REI's reputation is already solid, but I just hope every other REI outside Seattle is taking notes. This is how it's done!

100% Quality guarantee SUCKS! I've been a member for 53 years & never returned an item. I tried to return their Gregory hard shell suitcase that became cracked. I was told their life time guarantee is now one year & my purchase was four years ago & my suitcase looked like it was "thrown around" Aren't all suitcases "thrown around" & should be built for that? Even tho I bought it four years ago I only used it on three trips! Very disappointed in their customer service. Un sympathetic, rules are rules attitude. It sure has changed from the good ol' days. They lost me as a customer & I will not recommend them & I will go out of my way to discourage anyone from their business. Part two: Bought a great suitcase at Nordstroms & they guarantee everything they sell.

Came for a ladies only climbing class. Excellent class with only girl vibes. I only climbed a few feet as I'm afraid of heights and falling. But my friends went all out climbing really high. The instructors were so friendly and impressive with their knowledge of climbing. Some of the other ladies climbed so high!!! I became the official group photographer. lol. The selection of items at this REI is impressive. I did a small amount of shopping and it is REI prices. Fairly expensive. There is a huge discount section upstairs in the back. Parking in the building. Definitely worth the visit if you're in downtown Seattle.

So my friends and I knew we had to visit the flagship store while we were in town, and are glad we made time for a visit!

UPDATE: After posting this review, it somehow got worse. On a later visit, an employee -- who I…read moreunderstand may be a part-owner -- confronted me about the review, followed me out of the store, and called me a "chicken shit" on my way out, blaming me yet again for the entire situation. I'll let that speak for itself. A business that responds to honest, factual feedback by chasing a paying customer out the door and throwing insults has told you everything you need to know about how it treats people. This update wasn't something I went looking for -- it just confirms the exact pattern I described above. REVIEW: I'll stick to the facts. I spent over $6,000 at this shop -- and apparently that doesn't buy you even baseline customer service. I bought my bike here, and after a front wheel/tire failure caused a crash, I went through a Giant warranty claim with Montlake. The product side eventually got resolved, but dealing with them was frustrating from start to finish -- and the real problem wasn't the logistics, it was the attitude. From the beginning, I got the clear sense the shop saw me as an inconvenience rather than a customer. Communication was poor across essentially everyone I dealt with: no timely updates, no callbacks, no straight answers, and I was the one chasing them at every step. More than the delays, it was the tone -- dismissive, condescending, and openly impatient any time I asked a reasonable question about my own bike. One phone call summed up the whole experience. A staff member told me to "chill out dude, you got a new bike even though it was your fault you crashed it," and to stop "beating a dead horse." Talked down to, blamed, and brushed off in a single call. It's also just wrong -- it reflects a basic misunderstanding of how Giant's warranty and crash-replacement programs actually work. I don't expect a shop to agree with me on everything, but I do expect basic respect -- especially as a customer who put thousands of dollars into this place. The product issue got sorted out eventually; the attitude is why I won't be back, and why I'd point other riders elsewhere.

If, however, you have a questionably overpowered long-tail cargo bike running a custom Bafang BBSHD mid-drive setup that may or may not have been engineered during a caffeine-fueled "more capability and power is always a good idea" phase... these are your people. I rolled in with what can only be described as a mechanical riddle wrapped in an enigma of wiring harnesses and torque sensors. My Bafang BBSHD setup had become inhabited by a small tribe of mean spirited electrical gremlins. I'm capable with bike mechanics, but this had gotten over my head - I was bracing for a massive bill (maybe significant part replacements). Instead, the team at Alki Bike & Board just... handled it. Calmly. Confidently. No drama. No upsell. Just pure competence. The bill was less than 1/10 what I had expected. This crew is overseen by a guy called Dayton - I'm not sure if he is more Thor or Hercules. On one hand, he seems like he could summon lightning directly into a mid-drive motor. On the other hand, he has the calm, slightly amused strength of someone who has already defeated twelve labors involving stripped bolts and cross-threaded bottom brackets. Either way, the man is operating on a different plane. He diagnosed the issues quickly, explained everything in plain English (instead of "mystical bike wizard dialect"), and fixed the whole situation for a small fraction of what I was mentally preparing to pay. I didn't believe him when he told me. Bottom line: Extremely knowledgeable Honest pricing No ego, no attitude Dayton = certified bike demi-god If you are near West Seattle and your bike needs anything beyond a gentle pat on the saddle, this is the spot. 10/10. Will bring my mechanical chaos machine back henceforth!
