Bought a pair of $260 heated gloves at the Seattle retail store. Got home and had second thoughts due to undesired fit. Returned them days later and purchased a $79 pair of non-heated gloves. Got home and immediately discovered a small defective seam (1cm near the right thumb). Due to the commute to the retail store, I bought a separate pair of gloves from REI to make my ski trip. 3 days after I bought the defective and UNWORN gloves I attempted to return them and was told they needed to be warrantied. Aaron at the retail store refused to return them or exchange them stating my only option was to warranty them. When I asked if I could return them if they weren't defective, he said he couldn't. I don't want to warranty them, I want my money back. Both the retail store AND calling customer service- I was told there was no way to return these defect gloves to get my money back. Cody found an event on FB saying OR was having a sidewalk sale, up to 60% off this past weekend. He's in need of outdoor gear, so we decided to head over to SODO after work Friday. Walking up to the store, there wasn't much on sale outside. More apparel than anything else, and on top of that it looked like snowboarding pants and snow jackets. So that was slightly a disappointment. We headed inside to take a look around. A lot of apparel at this store, but they do have MSR stoves, sleeping pads, a big variety of OR dry sacks and compression bags. Cody needed a pack, so I suggested he get fitted by one of the employees, not sure if we were planning on buying there or online. OR didn't have too many packs out, but he was able to try on 3 different sizes, 50L 60L and a 65L. The 60L Osprey pack was more what he was looking for and turned out to be on sale 20% off. Doing a quick search online comparing prices on backcountry and REI, OR was the best deal! So he ended up buying the pack. Friendly customer service. Also if you buy at OR the first time, you get a 25% off OR brand full price item. read more

I had a great pair of OR's Capstone Heated Gloves that were wonderful until the right glove would not completely heat and had to make a warranty claim (the Capstone was discontinued). I received my credit, which can only be used on OR's online store, and purchased a pair of their PREVAIL Heated Gloves that was touted as "new and improved," but turned out to be a very FAR cry from the performance and fit of the Capstones. After trying and comparing the Prevails to my other pair of Capstones, I immediately returned the Prevails and are waiting for my credit to be posted to my account. It is hard to believe that Outdoor Research, a high quality company creating high quality products, would put out a product as poorly designed and extremely lacking in performance as is the Prevail Heated Gloves. I love this store! I am from California, and visited Seattle without the proper clothing....I don't know how to pack for travel. I had shopped at this store in November and purchased an excellent quality flannel shirt. When I retuned to L.A., I kept wishing I would have bought more of these flannels in different colors. An opportunity to housesit for a week (02/26/22-03/6/22), for a family member came up and as I mentioned I needed warm clothing, especially since the house sitting involved walking a dog. I went to OR and purchased two flannels, a pair of black leather gloves, a warm jacket/hoodie, and a pair of black 'Melody Joggers'. I LOVE the joggers. They are made with Thermo-regulating technology. It was freezing outside, but they kept my legs warm. Next time I am in Seattle, I am picking up another pair, in a different color. Circling back to the jacket...It is tagged as a 'Helium Down Hoodie' and it is made with 800 fill down, enhanced with waterproof fabric at the hood and shoulders, perfect for the rain (not a shower storm; it does have feathers). The tag also reads, 'Certified, Responsible Down Standards'. I purchased a dark purple. I could go on about the clothes, but I want to mention the salesperson, Zach, who was assisting me. He is very knowledgeable and very, very patient. He could tell I had a lot of questions and he explained the product to me. For instance, initially, I wanted to buy a long down coat, but he explained that it was not water resistant. I went with the hoodie he recommended and I am very pleased. I asked about jackets that have a double zipper as it does not make sense to me. He explained that the bottom zipper is for zipping 'up' and opening the jacket/coat to allow airflow, while keeping the top zipper zipped, to keep warmth in the chest area. Excellent customer service from someone who knows the product! When I was there, a woman was returning her flannels, because she did not realize they are 100% cotton and they shrunk. The owner was assisting her and from what I could overhear, it was a hassle free exchange. Visit the store, you will not be disappointed! When I take pictures of me wearing the clothing, I will post. Final comment: It is a dog friendly store. I took the dog I was housesitting, a large very friendly pit bull, on a leash. read more

OR gear is pretty good, but this store is a sad joke; don't waste your time driving here. i battled traffic to reach this retail location in hopes of trying on some gloves, but apparently MARCH in SEATTLE is not considered "glove season" so they had pulled them from the shelves. the prices are also higher than what you will usually pay for the same products if you just order from backcountry.com or REI. also, don't be fooled by their warranty. they make you go on the same web site and fill out the same form that you could do at home, just so you can wait a week and hear that they've decided not to honor it. and if you happen to be an industry professional who receives promotional pricing, they will kick you off the program if you try to warranty anything, even if it's an obvious manufacturing defect. read more

I absolutely LOVE OR! They are the best outdoor gear people! I went when they were having their after Christmas 30% off sale, and ordered a jacket through them as they didn't have my size and style I wanted. The gal who helped me was super helpful, she went through my jacket options for me and once we figured that out, went over gloves as well. Unfortunately, they called me about a few days after and told me the jacket she had ordered from their warehouse wasn't available. They were able to refund me my money as I was going to just go back to the store and try out more options. I was pretty bummed about it, but I will be coming back to check out their other jackets. I love their lifetime warranty as when my brand new, worn this one time ripped, they replaced it for retail value. I wasn't able to get the same pair as it was a few years before I could make the trip to their store, but was able to get a new pair plus suspenders. Hence, I am a OR gal for life. This place makes some of the better designed waterproof shells, drysacks, and gaitors made, all with a LIFETIME gaurantee. I can even comment that they mean lifetime, I got a return on a pair of 8+ yr old gaitors with a brand new Paclite top of the line pair. This place is serious. When you catch their sales you can get decent deals on their jackets and clothes, but in my opinion their gear is made amazingly well and cleverly designed and well worth the money. Another company with POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Purchased a SIGG water bottle from them a few months ago. For some reason the bottle cracked when hiking at altitude. I brought the bottle back for exchange, and the stated "WE DON'T DO THAT - YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER" With that the woman then added "We get in yelled at from our distributor, nothing we can do". She then gave me the phone number from an online retail store hosing the mysigg.com website - which is just a store, not the manufacturer. The online store said since I didn't purchase from them, they couldn't help. I called SIGG USA offices directly - they said I should bring it back to where I purchased it. This company is just another example of poor customer service, sell you a product, but don't stand behind anything. If this isn't their policy, then they need to train their employees to not make lies on their behalf. I am an avid outdoor hiker and backpacker and spend quite a bit of money on equipment yearly. There are lots of places to purchase outdoor gear - They have lost a customer over a $20.00 water bottle. I hope people consider this when shopping and choose to purchase equipment elsewhere. read more

The rating is more for their products than the store itself. Although the store is pretty amazing. I'm a bit disappointed with REI since they don't seem to carry the entire OR line. This last winter, I bought a OR Chaos Jacket that I've pretty much worn every day since last week. It's kept me warm through all the snow and rain. A month after I bought the jacket, I went into the OR store to pick up the matching insulated pants. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and the retail store has a sales/clearance section for older items. When I compare the prices on some of the other specialty outdoor retailers like TNF, MH, etc., I can say that OR meets or beats every one of their competitors. You owe it to yourself to go down and check them out. They have a great selection, as well as an Infinite Warranty. They can do upstairs where they make some of their products and if it can't be repaired, they'll exchange it for something comparable that's new. Don't have enough good things to say about my new favorite outdoor gear manufacturer. Now if only they'd start making packs. read more

OR (specifically a seamstress on staff) is awesome. I'm a lady with some manly gams (Thanks, genetics/running/climbing/hiking). I had a beast of a time finding gaiters that would fit!! Actually, scratch that- NO gaiters on the current market would fit my size 6 boot, size XXL legs! Then bless her soul- Perla, (on the 7th floor) did some fancy stitching and made a pair of Mens Small gaiters into a size Awesome. They fit perfectly. She used the same Goretex as the regular Crocs and even seam-taped the insides for me! And she did it all for a song. Seriously, I was prepared to pay triple what she charged me. So. RUDE Staff! My boyfriend and I went to OR to check out gear for a future trip. We greeted the staff member in a friendly manner and we began to browse their merchandise. He seemed to be following me while I was looking at gear. I thought perhaps he was going to offer assistance but instead he hid behind a display rack and kept watching me. I started to think he was watching me as if I might steal something ( I am a well dressed middle-aged woman). He continued to follow me around the store and when I mentioned it to my boyfriend aloud, the employee loudly grumbled "excuse me?" and started to approach us in a hostile manner. We had intended to spend some money at OR but instead we went to a competitor where we were treated well. Perhaps the underpaid climbing bum could learn a lesson in customer service while he is getting his employee discount. read more

Great little store with lots of product inside. I am always surprised that I can find new things each time I go down there. The sales staff is always super helpful, but never pushy. I feel like I can browse around for as long as I want without it being awkward. I definitely go there for OR products since those are what they make best. Perfect for northwest pow. GF has a jacket, I've got mountaineering gloves and tactical gloves. Can't wait to get her set up with bibs too and myself with a coat. Staff is awesome. They know their stuff. Helpful in figuring out how extreme your gear should be for the activities you do. And will actually talk you down from over spending. I had to over explain my glove needs before he'd sell me my pair of Alti gloves. Rarely does a salesman not try to sell you the most expensive item or rather talk you out of their most expensive item offered. I'm converted. Everything OR for me. Nothing but praise for this place. Love their products. My BF has several of their products. In all honesty, I'm cheap. There, I said it. I am cheap. I am the queen of hand-me-downs and second hand store shopper. I am a mother of 3 and I just have a hard time spending large amounts of money on high dollar items. That aside, I LOVE OR products! They all seem to be great quality, etc etc etc We stumbled by their tent sale on Black Friday. (I am not a black friday shopper) It really was a stumble. Everything in the tent was 50% off. All of it. The BF really wanted a new coat, but they didn't have the color he wanted. He almost bought the coat in a different color just because he was having a hard time passing up the 50% off sign. I fell in love with a coat. (never happens to me) It had a big price tag, but 50% off was a great deal. I actually bought it. Yes, an expensive brand new coat for myself. I don't think I've ever bought myself a new coat. The OR brand is one of my favorites. It's made well and they truly stand behind their products - I can vouch for this, after they replaced a year-old rain shell with a brand new one when I reported a couple of minor durability issues. I was REALLY excited when I discovered this retail location. It's the best place to try on the full line of OR products, many of which you can't find at REI. And they also carry other brands for accessories, like Smartwool, MSR, and Teko. I thought it might also be a good place to find both new AND clearance items, but I was disappointed to find that the sales rack is limited and the sale prices are nothing special. Most markdowns were 25% off, with a few at 45%... I found more competitive deals online through backcountry.com and Altrec. The majority of the store is stocked with full price goods. read more

I am moving from the south to Michigan. I ordered a coat from them that appeared black online, the stated color was black and yet when I received the $316.00 coat, it was GREY. If I had wanted a grey coat that is what I would have ordered. NO FREE returns, the coat weighed less than a pound, the cost to return was $16.00. The time, money and effort was certainly not worth it. Why state the coat is black, even on the label of the coat when it was not!? Very disappointed. Then I learn that it will take 2-4 weeks to return my money. REALLY!!!! Appalling. I also drove to their store in Utah, what a joke, not worth the time, hardly anything in the store and I was totally ignored while there. I am sorry I made the trip to the store, don't go. read more

This place is absolutely spectacular. The people at the counter are knowledgeable and friendly, they've always got a great selection of the company's products on hand, and the location is perfect for being one of Seattle's "best kept secrets". Their prices are a smidge higher than North Face, but the quality is the same, and you get the feeling they're entirely about the actual outdoor experience and not also catering to the "wilderness chic" college kids shopping at North Face.
