Came by on foot while visiting Seattle before going on a fishing trip and hoped to snag some waterproof hats. The workers here are very friendly and the shop itself is large with a ton of supplies from bags to camping gear, paracord, shirts, sweatshirts and pants, hats, gloves etc. The guy who was working when I came in let me try on a bunch of hats for color and sizing preference so I could get my perfect fit. 3 stars because I was also looking at the wool gloves for cold weather conditions and noted moths present on nearly all of them so wouldn't recommend buying anything in the store made of wool as its likely got some moth contamination present. read more

Lots of cool military stuff from past and present, and some unique items. However, items are a bit pricey than what you can get on-line. I was looking for some BDU's pants to wear when working in the yard. The old man at the front desk was condescending when I had questions about a couple products. I guess he didn't know I'm a retired Marine recon and not a novice about military gear. I see a lot of great reviews about their customer service, maybe just a bad day for the guy. I've visited here eons ago and still have my military grade shovel in my car trunk...store in existence since 1917. Another similar military surplus store had closed in SoDo, so I managed to find street parking in Belltown, proximate to Pike Place Market when we visited on 12/23/17. We used up nearly 45 minutes of metered parking just wandering all of the aisles. Everything you could think of military grade is there. Store staff are very helpful, as they ask if you need assistance finding something in particular. I definitely eyed pea coats on sale and other cool items like socks, map bags, sailor uniforms, military blankets, and axes, but had to settle for US Navy T-shirts instead (my late father served 20+ years, I'm a true Navy brat). Boyfriend wanted to stop in and check out their pocket knives. They had a nice array but he didn't end up buying anything. I enjoyed all the unique items like bagged water, dehydrated food, BODY BAGS, thick flannels, pea coats, even cute army/navy costumes for toddlers. It was like coming home. As an Army vet, I frequent such stores. My usual stops are in the south end but this was a day trip with the girls. Pros: Plenty of staff ( friendly and knowledgeable) Large inventory Close parking Cons: I can't live there We went in for a pretty big bulk purchase. It was seamless. The staff here did the heavy lifting (literally) and ensures we had what we came for. They checked inventories and helped with viable alternatives when what we wanted wasn't available due to having only 1 in stock. I was impressed by the amount of staff in the store. I also appreciated people checking actively with us during the experience. I am not big on the city so I won't fault the store for my nerves. Thanks guys for making our trip worth it. read more

Being ex military, I love going into a well lit surplus store. I went in on my lunch hour and really had a nice experience. Ok these places are not without dust and a little dirty here and there. This place is no exception and I wouldn't expect it to be spotless. A good surplus store has a well stocked surplus of military gear, some new stuff and general outdoors type of stuff. This place had it all from sleeping bag military systems, to general TA50, tents, knives etc.... Good place to to get your outdoor gear, rucksack, bags, all necessities. Whats cool they even have a good assortment of flashlights. Great place with good service and knowledgeable staff. In my browsing I actually found a real light weight travel sleeping bag system that is waterprooof. Heading down in the next day to pick it up. read more

As with any Army/Navy surplus stores, Federal carries everything you can possibly need in regards to camping and survival gear. Literally! You will find that they have a lot of reasonably priced/used gear, but the same item new right next to it if used is not the route you want to go. Not all military items offered here is strictly U.S. Government Issue, but you will find stuff from other NATO and former Soviet bloc countries. They have an impressive selection of Carhartt clothing, too! I do stop in on a semi-regular basis to see if they have any suitable bags to carry my camera gear. I purchased a tri-fold medical kit bag here that works great, but you can never have enough bags! I don't want to rehash a lot of what others have said about this place, but it really is worth a visit if you are in the area. I love this place. I am not really connected to it, but I am a soldier in the U.S. Army. I am an E-4, and my MOS is 68K. I think it's still fair for me to write this review. This place has just about everything related to the military that anybody, soldiers and civilians alike, could possibly need. Don't expect to walk in here and come out carrying an M16 and grenades, though. It's more supplies that you'll find here, and they stock plenty of everything you could ask for. That's the reason I'm giving them five stars. Until I find a more thorough store that carries military supplies, this is as good as it gets. Let's see, on my multiple visits here, I've purchased an MRE, pouches of emergency water, an Army t-shirt, a baseball cap that says "Proud to be an American," a flag, and a flagpole. Those last two items don't come together, unfortunately. But I can't think of a more obvious or a better place to get things like this. Plus, what's a better way to show your patriotism than buying those things here? There are also a lot of things here that I'll never need and/or that exceed my budget. One of the people in my recruiters' office mentioned that he got a rucksack (one of those backpacks for ruck marches) for $300 at this store. There are also lots of knives and other camping materials that I have no use for, but it's probably worth mentioning them in this review anyway. I'm pretty sure this is as good as an indie army & navy store gets. It's big, but not overwhelming; the sales peops are the most friendly, helpful people ever; the merchandise was organized, well marked and very reasonably priced. I wanted some of the sweet vintagesque army bags; I couldn't decide between the 12 varieties, so I got none (womp womp). They have the basic goods one would get at a store of this kind and so much more. All merchandise seemed of the utmost quality, no flimsy goods here. I picked up a sweet Carhart beanie that was $7 and change on sale... Sweet! Definitely a great stop for locals and tourists (like me!) alike. read more

This was my very fist time visiting a Federal Army & Navy Surplus store. That being said, I really liked my experience. I liked it so much that I will be looking out for one around my area back home. I went in the store for one main reason: to find my Seattle patch. Although, I didn't find a patch that particularly said Seattle on it, I did find one that was pretty cute. They had a top gun patch. It was such a lovely color and they had an ample amount. They did have a good selection of army patches if one was looking to do a costume or just get a cool army patch. The employees were pleasant and very helpful. The store has a bunch of cool gadget and knick knacks. I especially liked the note pad that wouldn't get ruined in the pouring rain. Not your usual find. The place may have been expensive, but it's still a cool place to visit and peruse. read more

Saturday afternoon I wandered around downtown window shopping. I made the mistake of wandering inside this store, only to quickly realize I was way over my head, surrounded by sketchy men and weapons of every shape, size and color. I figured no one inside would take too kindly to having a photo taken, so I kept my camera in my purse and my mouth shut mainly because I enjoy full use of both my arms and my legs and also because I'm a baby. When a sales clerk asked if I needed assistance with anything, I took that to mean "move it or lose it". Avoiding bodily injury by mere seconds*, I fled the store. Needless to say, I didn't stick around to try on the bikini. It's just as well. Swimming, gun toting and me decidedly could never mix. Not because I think there's anything wrong with that, but more because I never was particularly good at the multi-tasking. *I kid. The staff was surprisingly friendly. You walk in and you're greeted by someone who offers to help, there is tons of stuff here you can't find elsewhere, and you can buy a giant plastic replica of a gun. Wait... what? Moving on. I love this store though. Really! The service has been helpful each and every time. It's also a rather large store and you can find anything from racks of jackets and clothes (for men AND women) as well as shoes, hats, bathing suits, cooking utensils, blankets, you name it! There are many cool shops in Belltown district, including this cool military surplus store, which is also not far from my hotel and Pike Place Market. The shop sells military gears and equipments to all five armed forces. The shop also sells items that I've never seen used in the military. Whether you're active in the military or an admirer, there is something for everybody. Assumingly, there is a military station in the state of Washington. These military personnel get a discount on every purchase made here. Other than the military stuffs, the shop has a huge selection of Carhartt clothing. With the Pacific Northwest is cold and occasionally windy, I bought a Carhartt beanie for $10.00 and a couple of memorabilia of my days in the Marine. Despite my military days is a distant-memory, I still enjoy going to these military stores to revisit the recollections of all the apparatus and gears for all the men and women worn and used for our beloved country. read more

My kiddo had a hard time figuring out a Halloween costume last year. Finally, I got word that a soldier was high up on the list. Now, I could look for a cheap plastic costume that looks fake and doesn't hold up to the October weather. I decided not to do that and went to the surplus store instead. Yes, I spent more money buying real camouflage clothes. But, the quality was good and my kiddo was able to wear them after the holiday. PRICEY! I realize this Army/Navy surplus is located in the super overpriced city of Seattle (and did I mention.. *Downtown* of said city?!)... But still. I've gone to many such stores and I'm used to real ones having reasonable prices (sometimes even *good* prices!)... And for a smaller sized store w/ smaller selection... I went in once and never had a reason to go back. That all said the service was fine and they made the place look cool.. And ultimately it is kinda cool that there is one in downtown... A great store to cruise around with some gems and some let-me-downs. I love army/navy stores because they always have great pants and jackets. And this store did not disappoint on that end. A great selection of colors and types. A little pricer then I remember other stores being but the quality was better too. They really care about making customers happy and offer information for out-of-towners who are looking for items too. The let down is some of the camping stuff. A lot of it was worn and not worth a second glance. Rusted canteens are really not that useful. And some of the tents were just not practical. However, we did get a titanium spork. You walk in and realize this is the most organized Surplus store you have ever seen and probably ever will see. Then you notice how well stocked they are with everything from new items to the exact type of vintage stuff (and some replicas) you would expect. The body armor, tactical chest rigs, and molle accessories are all real and some real used, but still in excellent hand-picked condition, ready to serve again. They have a fantastic clothing selection, more than I have ever seen, including the new rip-stop black multi-cam TDU gear. I was able to pick up some new gear for trekking and my bug out bag, as well as some vintage stuff that matches my vintage Eagle H-Harness down to the buttons and the shade of army green. I regret not picking up more of the vintage .45 mag pouches or M4 mag slings. Oh and if you have questions? Best staff ever. Everyone was helpful and everyone had an area of expertise to help you make the right decision (talk to the big guy behind the register about pants). I need to pack light in strong gear that would stand up to some serious in-the-woods abuse and got what I needed, without a tear or even a single thorn or drop of mud penetrating my shell. I will be back for sure, but I have to bring the entire family. This is a friendly shop with something for everyone (even the hipsters buying authentic clothing that will probably never see mud, thorns, or gunpowder residue). Good way to save $$$ building up a complete Tier 3 gear setup as well. read more

It's huge, well-organized, and the staff is super cool and friendly. This store is so amazing that my bf and I went back twice in one day. They carry everything from packaged army food (forgot what it's called) to leather jackets! This place is not just for the guys, but you fashionistas out there would get a huge kick out of this place. YES, they carry flight suits for women, camouflage bikinis and utility belts; what could be sexier?? They also have an extensive patch collection and bandanas in every color, knit caps, camping gear, t-shirts. The whole store carries basically clothing only in navy blue, army green, black or bright orange. All great colors. This place actually gets six stars because, for a bunch of young guys working there, they actually have a super clean bathroom. Blew me away. Five stars for being a convenient, well stocked source of handsome stuff to wear for my aging punk household. They mostly carry classic military wear (and reproductions of the classics, for substantially less), with some random other stuff that makes sense for people who wear pea coats, berets and tight black German military sweaters: non-military athletic merino long underwear, Smartwool socks, Carhart brand everything and an array of Leatherman pocket tools. We left with the best peacoat I've ever owned (Navy issue, couldn't be more perfectly tailored), an awesome boiled wool sweater German army turtleneck, and a tshirt (Hanes beefy t's for $4.50!). Many army surplus stores I've been to are just a random bevy of whatever came in this week. These guys intentionally carry a few classic items in each category (with the original and then some cheaper knock offs). This seems to disappoint some reviewers, but it's a plus for me. I like the kinda retro nature of the trench coats, scratchy wool sweaters, bomber coats, fur lined parkas, &c, that remain. It's not the cheapest but these clothes far exceed anything you'd find at Nordstrom or next door at Patagonia. And I'd much rather put my money in the pocket of a local business with insanely helpful people like the dudes who work here. read more

There aren't pushy salespeople who give you the eyeball if you touch things. I can be a little kid, and no one cares. ;D My friend buys his peacoats here, and they are a GREAT deal. Assuming you care about quality of fabric and stuff over name brands, this is a great place to go. I also picked up a $20 paratrooper (?) bag and I'm using it as a laptop/messenger bag.
