Going hiking, hunting, to the range, fishing or kayaking? Might want to stop in here first! Ron guy who helped us in the riflery & marksmanship section. He is so incredibly knowledgeable, to the extent that his recommendations are based on the build, location and use of guns. I highly recommend talking to him before anyone else. Hiking alone? There's a pepper spray section and I recommend gel.

they helped me choose the right spinning reel and rod for squidding and man its been a game changer! my old setup had some wear and it was difficult to catch squid with it. fortunately after buying a new setup here I was able catch some awesome sized squid. all the staff were extremely helpful and patient when a lot of the rods were out of stock due to popularity. Afterwards I was able to catch a ton of squid off at alki

Could take up to 5 days for a pick-up in store item to be ready? Seriously? Forget it.

Ask the Community - Outdoor Emporium

We are visitors to the US, could we experience the shooting activities?

Call a shooting range like West Coast Armory, and verify how you might be able to do that sport. Best to have a range instructor supervise if you are new.

Unfortunately there's not too many of them left. I'll keep going back 2/13/2026. I just received my repaired waxed canvas jacket back. I have worn this coat for at least 7 years and have had two repairs done on it. They do a fantastic job and I could not be happier. It's literally located inside of their production facility, where industrial sewists are working hard to create these resilient bags. As an amateur bagmaker myself, I can see the work, thought, and details that are put into each bag. And while their prices are high, the craftsmanship is worth it. They use extremely quality materials, and add extra touches that make these bags perfect for travel. For example, many of the bags have a brightly colored interior so things are easier to find. Thoughtful pockets abound, too - from water bottle pockets to tiny spots to slip your passport or other important documents. I'm excited to report that I finally dove in and bought my first Tom Bihn (a cafe bag for my upcoming vacay) - the hardest part was choosing a color, as there were so many options available. Can't wait to use my new bag, and I'll 100% be back again (or maybe online) to get a companion piece as budget allows. If you're into bags, this is a cool place to visit. Heads up: due to the shop being open to the factory floor, masks are required in this store so be sure to bring one along.

I lost an irreplaceable rod on a river yesterday. I never would have found it without the incredible help of Muaaz, one of the staff members, who was so exceedingly caring and attentive that he voluntarily managed to track down the person who grabbed it from the bank. Thank you, Muaaz! Many fly shops are intimidating. Most are uncomfortable to hang out in. Plenty of them employ "experts" who are outright disdainful and rude to customers who don't know what they're doing. Most other shops aren't designed to foster a real community, let alone bring a positive force to the larger community of the neighborhood. There isn't a single employee here who won't go above and beyond for you, whether you're an absolute novice, intermediate to expert angler, or just have a friend or family member who's into fly fishing. Need a gift for the angler in your life? Curious about why people are so obsessed with this sport? Want to understand why matching a rod with the appropriate reel, line, leader, and tippet seems so complicated? Want to know if that piece of equipment is really worth the price tag? Maybe you don't really need anything, but you'd like to hang out in a comfortable space designed for customers like you to relax and socialize. Maybe you're tinkering with the idea of getting into fly tying but have no idea where to start. Or perhaps you could really use some expert advice based extensive experience -- without being told you have to buy $2,000 worth of whatever. If any of the above rings a bell, this is the place. No upselling, no uptight attitudes, no joke. This place is invested in making a real contribution to the community of West Seattle. If you live closer to another shop, give this one a shot. It's worth the trip, and you might not go back to that other place. The junction is lucky to have EWA at their new location on California Ave. I shop here instead of buying directly from vendors because there's no price gouging or elitist vibe, and because I honestly want this business to thrive. Most of the other customers who frequent this place do too. Moving this shop from 42nd and Oregon to the heart of the junction took an enormous group effort. There's a good reason so many of its customers volunteered to help with whatever was needed. There are also plenty of good reasons I've spent this much of my time and this many words writing a yelp review. Come see what all this fuss is about.
