Definitely a cool store to check out. They have almost everything kind of sports equipment you could want. You can trade in your old gear for money too with the re/supply if you are a member. Staff here was friendly too.

I normally don't leave reviews, but my experience with REI Ski Shop was extremely disappointing and potentially unsafe. I dropped off my skis with Tyrolia Protector SLR 11 GW 90 Ski Bindings for mounting. REI initially told me the bindings would be ready in 3-4 days, but they never called. When I phoned them to check, I was told I could either wait indefinitely or take the skis back, because they did not have the correct jig. What's shocking is that the binding box literally has a paper on top--clearly showing the correct template ID: "JRS/SLR PRO NO. 163104" (see attached photos). It appears they knowingly chose to borrow a similar jig instead of using the correct one provided in the box. This decision caused unnecessary delay, wasted my time, and could have led to improper mounting and safety risks if it had been attempted. Their work order even listed the correct template ID, the same as in the box, yet they still went ahead with the wrong jig. This is a clear case of technical mishandling, not a "miscommunication." I was initially offered a $50 gift card, but that does not compensate for the wasted time, disruption to my ski plans, or the fact that this was a basic professional error that could have compromised safety. I expected REI to handle equipment mounting professionally, with attention to detail. Instead, this experience demonstrated careless disregard for technical standards. I am very disappointed and will escalate this to REI Headquarters and the Better Business Bureau. They've finally moved into they're new home in the former Sears & Roebuck. Ample parking here, large floor space. Though I do miss the previous store & open second level. The new store offers all the same quality merchandise, professional staff, and loaded with ideas to get outdoors and rock nature in style!

    SIDEWALK GARAGE SALE

Attended their Sidewalk Sale today for REI members. It was very crowded, with a huge line waiting for the 9:00 Opening. Last time I went I bought two really nice pair of athletic shoes. Today I scooped up a very nice pair of waterproof casual shoes (see photo). The outdoor sale is held a few times a year -it's all the stuff that was previously returned and the tags give the reason they were returned (the shoes I bought said "worn twice returned as 'uncomfortable'''. And yes, I did try them on first and they felt OK. This is an amazing store for the active and inactive souls alike. Bike stuff. Camping stuff. Dog stuff. Ski stuff. Snowboard stuff. As much clothing and footwear as you can envision in your mind. I found the help to be very helpful. The lines all went fast. It really is a cool place!

Considering the only other REI locations in CT are in Norwalk and Milford? I'll take what I can get! As a long-time member of their Co-Op, I have to admit there really is no reason not to be. From their annual dividends, garage sales, and outdoor classes, outings, or events -- REI does a great job at engaging their community. Though this location may not be the biggest store I've visited, the staff is always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I particularly appreciate the guys over at the bike department (they have saved my arse more times than I can count) As echoed by other users, parking can be a pain. If you know what you're looking for/buying use the "15-minute only spots" reserved for food pick-up. Otherwise, you'll be stuck paying for parking no matter what (opt to bike or walk over if you can!)

I was told people get served in the order they arrive, but that would be a slow time so it should be fine. I arrived at that time, a Tuesday around 1.30 during a non-school vacation day. Signing in on the sheet by the door, all names above were crossed off giving the impression we would be next. 4 people were in mixed stages of trying on shoes with only 1 employee on the sales floor. He avoided looking at me. Within a few minutes, 1 patron bought her shoes. Great, I thought. Closer to getting fitted for needed insoles and new sneakers! A man walked in, went over to the employee asking for a particular person. 'That's me' said the employee. 'Have a seat and I'll be with you shortly'. The employee NEVER acknowledged me. Waiting was a waste of time given I was going to be passed over. I left. Not enough employees to take care of all the patrons. And a sloppy system of who gets taken care of, when. This happened Tuesday 3/24/26.

I was considering seeing a doctor and gearing up for the possibility of surgery. Before I jumped to medical intervention, I decided to go to Fleet Feet to see if anyone could help me. I figured if anyone had experienced with foot pain, it would be runners. An employee, Dave, had me hop on two pieces of tech that measured my feet, gait, and walking pattern. He was able to identify my size, arch height, foot width, and level of stability. Apparently, I was wearing the wrong type of sneakers and lacked arch support. He fitted me with insoles and a few weeks later, wide toed sneakers. Since then I have had ZERO pain! I realized I had been wearing the wrong type of sneakers my WHOLE LIFE. I am genuinely amazed at how much easier running, walking, even standing is now. I owe Dave my life. Thank you guys so much!

The college-aged gentleman who was working, didn't seem too interested in helping us and was only willing to sell us the most expensive helmet in the store. I explained our situation and he basically pushed us out of the store. I might have to buy equipment from here in the future, but I am very hesitant, due to how I was treated. As a specialty sporting goods store, the needs of the customer should be embraced, and employees are expected to be able to recommend the appropriate equipment for all price points. Do better.

I know the great Jimmy Brown from the NFL played college lacrosse at Syracuse. I know its big on Long Island and in Maryland. That's about it. But I also know that my 13-year old cousin from California is a big lacrosse guy and plays on his high school's lacrosse team. I also know we'll be visiting him soon. So when my wife had the brilliant idea of visiting Lacrosse Unlimited in Avon to see what cool stuff we could get for him, it seemed like a great idea. It sure was! I figured they'd have lacrosse sticks and balls, and of course they did. They also had lacrosse T-Shirts, sweatshirts, gym shorts, wool caps, socks, games, books, and everything lacrosse. Hell -they even had lacrosse greeting cards. The young guy that waited on us was super -he basically walked around the whole store and looked at what a 13-year old might like. He was very helpful and personable, and it was evident that he sure loved the sport, So if anyone in your personal world is a lacrosse guy or girl, this is a place you really need to visit. Even if its just for the lacrosse birthday card!!
