No high pressure or "you need this..." kind of approach. Service is spot on. Had difficulty shifting to the top cogs on the rear cassette and their mechanic Chris was very thorough. He checked the chain length, the cassette teeth and the shifter itself and the stop screws. It was a bent derailleur hanger. He had it fixed in under ten minutes. Strong recommend. read more

I took my bicycle in tonight to have the derailer/chain fixed. Chis, a very young person, was the bike tech. I waited 20 minutes prior to Chris getting to me due to a conversation with previous customer. Finally, getting to the counter I repeated my problem. Chris didn't seem to understand what I was saying so he took the bicycle out in lot for a test drive. In the process, he adjusted the seat for his height well above the height i had it at. He came back in and said could you demonstrate the problem? I said OK, why? He said he wasn't going to tell me what the problem was - he wanted me to tell him after I rode it. I was just out of work, tired, and didn't see the seat adjustment so when I tried to ride the bike I wiped out in the lot. Funny. Amusing, sure. But my problem is I have a scoliotic spine, compressed disks, arthritis throughout my spine and knees and have had replacement surgery. I ride bicycles to stay mobile. I really don't need to be injuring myself to prove a point to anyone or for the amusement of the employees at this shop. I had to yell at Chris to get him to take the bicycle inside and fix it. I believe he knew what the problem was, what was the point of injuring a customer. Well, former customer as I'm sure that I won't be back here any time soon. Is this the normal standard of customer care for Mystic Cycle Centre? It's nice having young people run the store, but maybe older people might have a little more empathy. read more

Great store with a good selection and great staff. Very helpful. But to me its a little overpriced. I've never paid over $200 for a tuneup but even after I turned down a few of their suggested repairs I was in the $330 range. I don't even know where to begin with how wonderful the folks at Mystic Cycle Centre are. My aunt and I just completed a 300 mile ride up to Provincetown, MA from Darien, CT and our interaction with Sean and his colleagues at MCC was one of the great highlights of our trip. We left for our ride in a rush, only packing 1 extra tube and CO2 canister to fix a flat. When we got our first flat about 20 miles from Mystic, with a couple 100 miles to go on our ride we called up Sean who not only advised us on some unexpected detours on our route, but also arranged a generous flat kit for us to pick up outside of MCC's scheduled business hours. Sean and his team were delightful, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about cycling. They went out of their way to problem solve and ended up ensuring that our ride was safe -- bc, as luck would have it we got our second (and last, thankfully!) flat about 10 miles past Mystic. The kind of kindness and care people like Sean exhibit is what makes America great. I cannot endorse them strongly enough - thank you Mystic Cycle Centre! read more

The morning after my visit to Mohegan I headed over to Mystic Cycle Center to rent a bike (mine mysteriously disappeared, damn Boston bike thieves!) and go for a relaxing ride through Mystic and Groton. Mystic Cycle Center hooked me up with a sick hybrid for like $20 and they also tuned up my girlfriend's bike and gave us helmets for free. That's 5 stars in my book! read more

Great cycle shop that we stumbled upon in Mystic on our way downtown. I needed grease so we popped in. They had just sold out of grease but were nice enough to put some of their own in a bag for me which was really cool. They have a great selection of apparel there which was refreshing, most cycle shops only have a handful of jerseys, and they carried Castelli. There was a healthy selection of bikes on hand too, including a sick green Specialized Venge. Looks like there is a good biking community in the Mystic area. read more

My handlebar has been making a creaky noise for about a week. Sean, the store manager, took apart my headset and greased the bearing and made some adjustments. The bike mechanics at Mystic Cycle Centre were amazing. I'd just bought a used bike off someone's lawn, and I went in to get it checked out on a friend's recommendation, not knowing much about bikes, or even what to ask. They all gathered around my new (used) bike and said sweet things like it was "immaculate" and a "piece of art" and "a steal" for what I paid for it, and talked about free spinning front wheels and the 1970's. I felt like the owner of an awesome vintage car - which was a funny, proud feeling, since I've never owned a car. I told them I'd be commuting between Westerly and Mystic, and they told me what I could expect from a bike like mine, and what I could do to best maintain it, and asked, in a very concerned way, if I had a helmet. They also filled my tires with air, and were generally so accommodating that I wanted to hug them all. The last thing they said to me was, "We support are commuters." I felt very supported, and definitely will be going to them with any problems or questions I might have in the future. Totally friendly, totally fast and efficient, obviously a large knowledge pool between the employees. A great first impression. read more

We went with a group of Cub Scouts to learn about bike maintenance and safety. The instructor, Jake, did a fantastic job teaching. The kids learned a lot and so did the parents. We went up to the shop upstairs and it was clean and organized. I could understand why people entrust them with important bicycle repairs and maintenance. read more
