I bought a bike here about seven months ago. People were very friendly and helpful and help me find a bike that fit me perfectly. I brought my bike in for service today. It's a little over the top with Covid. You have to wait to go in and they take your temperature which I've never had my temperature taken at a retail store. I have heard that I will be told that there is quite an extensive amount of repairs that will be needed during my tuneup so we shall see. read more

I'd strongly recommend avoiding this store if you are interested in purchasing or servicing a bike. They promised me a bicycle for my son which was delivered months late. When he popped a tire, they refused to expedite service on his bike and told me to either wait a week to replace a tire tube, or to go elsewhere. These folks are a perfect example of how businesses simply don't care about the consumer anymore. Instead of apologizing for poor service, their attitude is simply "screw you, if you don't like it go somewhere else". I still don't know how this store stays in business???? This is the 3rd and final time this store has secured any money from me ever again. The staff here are just the absolute worst, and here's why: Today my husband texts me and says, can you get in touch with the store, I've been notified my jacket is in the store. So I said sure I'll call, and find out if they will let me pick it up for you. So I call and the man I spoke to was just a knuckle head right off my the rip. I said hi and explained my husband was advised that his jacket had arrived and asked could I possibly pick it up for him? He retorts with I don't know that it's here, did you even get a notification. (Now he never asked my name either or my husband name or for the order #.) and proceeded to tell me that we would receive a notification when his order had arrived. Which he had zero intent on listening as he hadn't thus far..... So at this point I quite frankly had zero intention of arguing with him and just said whatever and hung up. I then advised my husband and he said well that's cool, a guy named Casey reaches out to me to let me know it's there, so I don't know what their problem is, I will call. So he gets a woman this time, we are now 3 people deep and she also doesn't ask for his full name or order # and proceeds with the same spiel and then changes her tune and says "well if Casey told you it's here, it must be. " We cannot get a straight answer out of her either. Now my husband is understandably mad, because now not only does he not know if the jacket is actually there as 2 out of 3 people are just utterly clueless and RUDE, and refuse to actually confirm the delivery, but now has to haul ass home from Branford to grab his personal vehicle to drive over to Newington to see if it is in fact there or not, since no one wants to actually do their job. To boot neither of us got to ride tonight...not happy, due to this debacle of completely inexcusable and unnecessary inability to do ones job! This is why people have moved to online shopping, and this includes bikes and bike related shops. I don't have to argue with anyone, a website takes my money without hassle and provides me a product without hassle and I certainly don't have to deal with rudeness or ask twice and it's usually a lower price! Kickstands down, Newington Bike is the best bicycle shop around. Can you put a price on the freedom and enjoyment felt in cycling or on outstanding service this shop gives? Not if you could try. I have been searching endlessly, far and wide, for a three-wheel bike [or an adult trike]; I was fortunate to find the perfect one--as well as outstanding service and more--at Newington Bike. I called the shop one afternoon to inquire if they had such a bike, and was connected with Dave, one of the mechanics. (The owner of the shop is also named Dave; my contact was only through Dave who is a mechanic at the shop.) He said the shop does have something and went to check their inventory quickly to make sure. I was impressed when he did that for me!! He stated that even if that one sells before I come in to see it, the shop usually gets a shipment for one each week. Several days later, I stopped in to check out the bike and shop. I introduced myself to Dave and was able to see the trike in person. I fell in love with both the shop, its workers, and the trike. Less than a week from ordering my trike, it was shipped to the store and fully assembled. [The mechanic] Dave called to tell me it was ready and offered to drop it off at my home (as it would be harder to do with my smaller car and the trike's slightly larger width). Dave went out of his way for me and made sure I was happy with my trike, which I tremendously am!! He let me test drive it on my street and helped me make some final adjustments to make it perfect. It fits exactly to me. I very much appreciate all that he did for me. The prices may be on the higher side, but for the quality of products and the best customer service you receive, they are well worth it. I could not find a trike anywhere, only cruiser bikes that are low to the ground and are in a reclining position. It was a rare find, and Newington Bike has it!! They have a great selection of everything, from bikes to bike accessories to cycling clothing to swimming gear (for triathlons). Like Dave who helped me, the staff will look around for whatever you do need, too, if the shop does not have it immediately available. The staff is amazingly kind and helpful. Each person greets you and asks to help with whatever you need when you walk in. You will not want to go anywhere else for your cycling needs after you come here. There is nothing like the freedom and enjoyment you get cycling (in my case, tri-cycling), or the fantastic service at Newington Bike. Thanks to Dave and Newington Bike, I am able to finally feel that beautiful, refreshing breeze on my face as I peddle easily, exploring on my trike. read more

These guys took great care of us. We recently inherited 2 bikes; a Cannondale road bike and a Gary Fisher mountain bike..they aren't very recent models..I'd venture a guess they are about 5-7 years old and have been sitting for quite some time. After a careful inspection they simply said they needed a basic tune. They could have tried to upsell us new tires or new brakes or essentially the whole kitchen sink with their trade-in program, and we would have been none the wiser, but they didn't. Such integrity. Very disappointed, went out of my way to come to what I thought was Newington Bicycle where we had many great experiences over the years. They acted like they were doing me a favor selling me a bike. After I bought it and went back to pick it up I saw the same bicycle in a different size on the rack priced $50 lower, I asked the salesman why I was charged more and he said there was a price increase and the price he charged me was the price. I indicated the price on the sticker is usually the price it has to be sold for and I thought that was a poor business practice. I asked to speak to a manager and after a feeble attempt to locate him he came back and said he was on the phone but the price I paid was the price. The website suggests there are different ways to shop, including actually entering the store to store. It is in a strip mall with many other shops and restaurants that are quite busy with customers going in and out. Inexplicably, still no customers allowed in the shop. Why? What kinds of stuff are they doing in there? Service was okay I guess for having someone briefly come outside wearing a mask on a sweltering day to see what I wanted. We've bought bikes from this place in the past, but never again. We were comparison shopping with another similar bike shop in West Hartford and found Newington Bike to be much pricier. But the real surprise was in their rudeness and perfunctory treatment. They use to have a decent reputation, but I was very disappointed by their negative attitude and poor treatment of customers like us who had been loyal. I took my bike in for a repair. The service was decent and they told me that the bike would be ready at a certain time, and charged me a certain price. After the deadline came and went, I called them and they told me that my bike was ready. When I picked it up, they charged me for labor (even though they hadn't told me that there would be any additional charge when I paid them the first time around) and when I got the bike home, I noticed that one of the tires was low. Overall it was a fine experience, but I felt like they didn't care about me at all, especially since they didn't even bother to contact me to let me know that my bike was ready to pick up. Also, what kind of bike repair shop doesn't even fill up both tires before returning a bike? In my experience, that's a basic courtesy. I'll definitely be taking my business to one of the many other quality bike shops in the greater Hartford area. read more

This is a nice clean store. I interacted with the helpful staff and determined that this is a group that addresses the particular needs of the higher end cyclists. The inventory was well organized and the store was well laid out. I think this store has a eye toward the higher end market because while I was there the customers who came in were primarily researching high end components. Newington bike is where my parents bought me my first bike. That was 20 years ago and the shop is still open. Maybe that's a testament to their work ethic. Their staff is friendly and knows a thing or two about bikes. Their shop is full of low cost to mid cost bikes. It caters to families and road bikers. Being mostly a mountain bike guy, I don't usually shop here. I feel their sales floor is lacking a good selection of full suspension freeride bikes. Testing bikes out is also an issue as they only have a parking lot to ride around in. A good bike shop will at least have a trail or woods out back or a dirt jump and newington bike doesn't offer any of these. On the plus side, they sell unicycles! read more
