I went to Reid Rental today to purchase landscaping rocks for my yard. As I was standing in line to make my purchase.There was an employee who walked by. As the employee was walking by to join his co- workers behind the register. The male employee says here comes my slave.The employee who was referenced said something like I'm a hard worker, slaves work hard. There was something else said, but by this time I was upset and didn't hear what else that was said.I went outside and said to my wife you wont believe what was said why I was making my purchase. I wanted to go back in the store,but my wife said their not worth it. See I'm writing this because as I was resting at home the words that I herd in a business that's for the public stuck with me. I know customer service since I was doing it for 35 plus years of my life. You see I'm a black man and when I heard that kind of language between coworkers with me standing there that really bothers me. I've been renting from Alan, and his team, since he was up in Sherwood. I've never had a bad dealing with him or any of the staff. I rented the BIG chipper (35HP) for the day rate of $210. The machine sells for well over 13K. I returned it gassed full, and blown clean with a leaf blower. No hidden fees, everything is spelled out in the contract. I price shop and this was a solid price for a solid piece of machinery. The staff were very polite, just like every other time. read more

Excellent local business. I'm a not sure why there are such negative reviews. We have used them frequently for years to rent needed equipment, or buy soil or rock. Very friendly and always a quality experience. They even let us keep a post hole auger overnight no extra charge because we wanted to use it the next day. We always clean everything well and return before close of business. Never had a problem. Often only charged the minimum if we bring it back in a few hours. read more

I am a contractor. I rent from them at least every other month. Prices are high. Service is lackluster. I asked if I could get a contractor discount for renting from them so frequently, they looked at me like I had just asked for a kidney. Practically everyone I do business with offers a discount due to the volume of business I do... Not Reid Rental. If you can find a better rental yard, I would go there. 7/2017 UPDATE: I went into Reid Rental today and was attacked by the owner in regards to leaving a review. I was told that I was not welcome to rent from them anymore. I asked the owner if he felt he was handling this in a way that would help the situation. He flatly did not care and berated me in front of four or five other customers. This is by FAR the worst customer service experience I have EVER had. It is obvious why this business has a two-star rating on Yelp and a two-star rating on google. We rented a chipper on a Saturday afternoon. It was due back on Monday morning since they are closed on Sunday. They didn't inform us that they would charge us for a full day. The blades were very dull making it hard to munch up our small tree branches. When we inquired about the full day charge the guy just laughed. We should have been told that up front. We couldn't run one of those machines for a full day, it would be too difficult. We will think twice about renting from there again. read more

Long story so skip to the end for the summation. I rented a carpet cleaner from Reid on a Friday on the way home from work, paying to rent it for 24 hours. I got home and attempted to use the equipment but it was broken and did not turn on. At this point I had filled the equipment completely with their special cleaning solution that I had purchased when picking up the carpet cleaner. That all needed to be dumped out so I could load the cleaner back into my car. After work the next day (Saturday), I went and got a new cleaner and they were very apologetic that they had given me a broken one. I used the replacement and it worked great. This business is closed on Sunday so I was unable to return it as soon as I was done. The reason I needed a carpet cleaner was because I was moving and needed to deep clean the place I was moving out of. Cut to Monday I am now living in my new place which is about an hour away and as a result of things I had scheduled far earlier, I could not return the carpet cleaner until around 3 p.m. that day. When I made the long drive to return the equipment, the manager tried to charge me for 2 days worth. I explained to him that they rented me defective equipment and that because of their shortcomings a scheduling conflict arose which prevented me from returning the equipment early Monday morning. Which is nonsense anyway. Because Reid screwed me on Friday, the 24 hour rental didn't begin until Saturday evening. They were closed on Sunday. Effectively, I returned the equipment within 24 business hours so there shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Instead, the manager tried to charge me double which is insane because they failed to provide functional equipment. I should have been offered half price, not charged double. tl:dr This place doesn't seem to care about customer service at all and they will try to scam you. If you can help it, take your business elsewhere. Or make them show you that the equipment runs before you leave with the equipment. read more

In my opinion only, When rental machine showed up the driver told my operator that the previous customer "Trashed the machine" Dents in side panels and scraped decals. On Monday morning after the machine was picked up by the rental company I get a call from Alan, the owner, saying that my operator trashed the machine and that I was being charged for damages. The damages were caused by the previous renter. I believe that this company has committed fraudulent activities in double charging customers. A dispute is pending, and I fell that litigation is warranted in this case. Never will I do business again with this company. BEWARE!!! read more

I said "I didn't think you were going to watch me unload" to which he replied "I'm on my lunch break". This place is just OK. I have rented from Reid in the past and never had any major issues, but recently I had a very bad experience. The equipment we rented broke (not from misuse, but from age) in the first 3 minutes of use. When we called them they suggested that we replace the sheer bolt at a hardware store. I asked for a credit for the wasted time and the staff person said no and suggested strongly that we misused the equipment. When I told him that we hadn't and that I would return the unit instead. He then yelled at me and hung up the phone. I immediately called Bottens Rental in McMinnville and rented a newer piece of equipment and received great customer service. Spoke with a rep on the phone about a landscaping project and gave him details about what I was trying to do and they told me they would be able to fill my order and make my delivery as requested. Once I got into the store, it was a whole different story. The guy behind the counter was rude and talked to me in a condescending manor. He stated a very different policy than the one that was presented to me over the phone. Instead of working with me he was very short and rude. I then exited with my daughter after I told him I would be taking my business to a competitor. I have friends and family that have used Reid Rental in the past but that will surely change after today. I rented from Reid Rental for the first time, we rented an Excavator, Skid Steer, and a Compactor as we have a big project and are on a strict time line, we rented the Excavator for a week, the Excavator was used for 9 hours and the machine blew a Hydraulic line, I called the company and told them and was informed I would have to pay for the line because they don't just blow, well it did, we looked at another line on the machine and it had been taped and the protective cover wasn't even connected, needless to say I was upauled that they expected me to pay for the faulty line, we also noted that the service had not been done since 2015, after we yelled back and forth with the manager, who has NO customer service skills, he told me he would not rent to me again. I spent 2 hours finding more machines to replace the machines I was suppose to rent from them, Jerromy the manager called me and told me the line was not my fault, and told me he only charged me for 2 days, mind you I only used the machine for 9 hours that is a far cry for 16 hours, I said fine, then he called me back again and proceeded to tell me how he didn't appreciate my attitude and that he had a line for customers, I couldn't believe my ears, he accused me of saying the F word which I did not, it ended up with him hanging up on me, he called me back 2 more times and hung up on me again, then the third time he called me back he actually asked me if I still wanted the other 2 rentals from him after he told me he would never rent to me again, needless to say I will never rent from Reid Rental again and would give them a 0 but the lowest rating I can give is a 1, Jerromy should be fired !!!!! Unsure of the negative posts as I have had nothing but great service each time I have used them. Everyone has always been courteous and informative. Each time I went in thinking I should get one type of rental, after explaining what I was doing, they helped me get the correct item which then made the work that much easier. At 62 I now turn to equipment to help make my workload lighter and keeping my back healthy! As far as the price, in the long run I see it as less expensive for me because it is only half a mile from where I live. They have always made it very clear to me when it is due back and how it should be returned so I'm not charged for a late or cleaning fee. As far as a walk through on a piece of equipment, I have always looked at it myself and if I see anything that I have concerns about, I go back to the office and have them make a note on the record. One time I got a sander and when I got it home, it didn't work. I took it back within 30 minutes, and they didn't charge me a thing. I always recommend Reid anyone who wants to make the job easier!!!! read more

If I could give negative stars I would..I've rented from them in the past about 4 years ago, had a bad experience and service then, thought I'd give them a try again, worst mistake I've made this year, terrible customer service, I rented a transmission jack, I had the jack up in the air with my 400 pound dodge transmission on it, and the thing wouldn't tilt or anything, took it back down unloaded the transmission, and it tilts, tried it a few more times, same thing, no tilt..I was disgusted, I called Reid rental they said bring it in and we'll look at it, told them what was happening, and they said "oh looks like it tilts now" I said " well ya because there isn't any weight on it" their response was "well no one has said it doesn't tilt before " I told them that this was the reason I hadn't rented from them since the last time..they responded by telling me that I shouldn't rent from them if I didn't enjoy the experience with them..all I can say is wow! I mean even the construction company rebuilding the Dairy Queen next door rented from star rentals..that is hilarious! I'll drive to McMinnville or Portland before I'd go back to Reid rental. read more

Starting out they were extremely helpful and friendly. Unfortunately when we went to return our rentals we arrive exactly at 5:30, we tried calling to let them know we were might be a minute late. I was informed that thier computers turn off at 5:30 and I would have to.come back tomorrow even though I was a mile away. Upon arriving exactly 5:30 the entire staff was in their cars and leaving. We work in the customer service industry and that was completely unacceptable and an obvious tactic to charge us for more hours on our rental. We support local and unfortunately we will be supporting another local next time. read more

If you want to be gouged, ripped off and told different stories then by all means go to Reid Rentals. We spoke with one person that said as long as we didn't go over 8 hours on the meter, we wouldn't be charged extra and could pick up the tractor the day before anytime and return before closing the next day. Go to pick up the tractor the afternoon before and oh no, you have to come back later. So go back later and pick up the tractor. Return the tractor the next day with 4 hours on the meter and before they close. Well guess what? We're charged an extra hour PLUS 2 days rental on some stupid pry bar. $253 to use a tractor for 4 hours!! Rip off city!!! Do not recommend this place at all and will never use them again. I will say the guy that delivered the gravel was very nice. read more

This is the first time I've written a review. But I'm going out of my way to do so because reid rental has garbage customer service. No wonder almost all the other reviews are also 1 star. I went to rent a compactor from them. Was supposed to be back for me to get at 5pm so I could have it ready for the next day. It wasn't. Was supposed to be back at 7:30 the next morning. It wasn't. I sat there for an hour an a half waiting this morning for it to show up. It finally did and I went and did my work with it. The machine is in pretty rough shape and many things don't work properly on it. I used it for less than two hours on the meter and brought it back and would hope to get a discount or something being that I used it so little and I also had to wait for so long for it. Nope, they wouldn't budge. I got the full day rate and that was that. They truly don't care about customer satisfaction. As more rental places pop up I'm sure they will go out of business. Rented an excavator over the long holiday weekend (2 day rental) and the track came off the first day. Contract states 'if the equipment becomes unsafe or in disrepair as a result of normal use, customer agrees to discontinue use and notify dealer who will replace the equipment with similar equipment in good working order'. No way to leave them a message and when I did get hold of them on the next schedule work day, the guy stated I would have to pay the full fee, regardless if the machine was usable. He didn't care if it was under 'normal' use or not. The excavator was being used dig a ditch in a hay field and the tracks were 'dusty', but not dirty (ie clogged with mud or debris). Let him know I would like to see the history on the machine, and he noted it was about a year old and the tracks had come off multiple times. Go figure... Very poor business practices and lousy customer service. I try to support local businesses, but this one doesn't deserve another chance. read more
