I have had the pleasure of working with Highway Fuel (HF) on multiple occasions, and each experience has been consistently excellent. Last fall, Jeff from HF went above and beyond by driving over 20 minutes to my location to assist me in evaluating how much soil I needed for my project. He helped me determine that I would need about 10 yards of soil and walked me through the conveying process, which saved me a significant amount of time. Today, after laying the weed barrier I purchased from HF, I had a follow-up question. Jeff was incredibly patient and helpful over the phone and provided various helpful scenarios and made additional recommendations that I truly appreciated. Beyond the exceptional service with soil (and even simply, weed barrier), I have also purchased wood (kiln dried and excellent product) and beautiful Montana Rainbow River Rock in various sizes from HF. Asked for 2 yards premium compost to be dumped in my pickup. I was directed to lot 2 and waited. Filled the truck bed and went to the lot house to pay. He looked at my load and charged me $68 for premium compost as stated on the receipt. Came home, spent all day shoveling and spreading in the front flower beds, alls good. The premium compost seemed sandy, light colored and lots of plastic pieces and clods. Went back today to get two more yards and wanted to tell someone what I got. I was directed to a different part of lot 2 and loaded from a different pile. Pulled out and stopped out of the way of others loading. I asked the guy who loaded me why two piles of the same stuff. I looked at what he had loaded and it looked like...well what I thought premium compost should look like. He told me the other pile was river loan mixed with compost.....potting soil. I went to the office and outside spoke with a person who wanted to see my receipt from yesterday. It was at home. We talked and she told me to go home and call in the ticket number and I would be credited for the wrong load. I figured that is the best they would do after a hard day's work. I called with the ticket number and talked with a person who transferred me to Mike's voicemail. I hung up and called back and was placed on hold and the person I had talked to outside the office picked up. She mentioned needing to confirm the transaction via their video system. I believe she then remembered our previous discussion and said would go ahead without video verification and credit my card for the $68 and charge for the potting soil. When I objected and told her they could come and remove the potting soil she relented and stated she would credit my card the $68 and not charge for the potting soil. I have done businesses with Highway Fuel since they were on Fairgrounds Rd. This encounter is not up to their standards, unless their standards have dropped considerably. I love to go there to pick out rocks. They are very safety conscience. There are a lot of moving vehicles in the area, and they really keep an eye on everyone's safety. There's a lady that works the front entrance shed, and she is wonderful. They have all been very nice and helpful.. I usually go in and take buckets and buy rocks by the bucket. I also go through the pile of broken stone and I get a lot from that pile for only four cents a pound! Great place. read more

Note - I did not order services or product from this business but wanted to share my negative interaction with this company. One of their trucks pulled out in front of me on Highway 22 just east of Stayton from the gravel quarry. Not only did I have to brake to avoid an accident the truck threw gravel on the highway and into my windshield cracking it. I called their dispatch office afterwards and was told that they would take care of it and to send pics of the damage which I did. I also had witnesses to this. The company completely blew me off stating that it was my fault and they have signs on their trucks to stay back. Kind of hard to do when they pull in front of you like they did. So no answers to emails with proof and pictures. No calls back. I'm out $400 because of the negligence of this company. I would not use them for any service based off how they treated me and the actions of their drivers and management. read more

I took one star off because once we rented a trailer asked and was charged for their power plant mix, but we're given some other product that wasn't nearly as good and needed a lot of amending. Had 35 yards of Fir bark dust blown over a 1/2 acre of tricky, and in some places, delicate planting beds. Jeff and his 4 man crew were very careful and professional at applying, grooming, and cleaning up afterwards. My wife is very picky and she was very happy with the results, as was I. Today, when they were blowing it on, it took an extra 7 yards compared to the exact same job as last year. That was an extreme jump from every other year prior. I am extremely disappointed. We are doing a complete overhaul of our yard. We have bought 1/4" minus gravel, Camas boulders and flagstone from them. We have also taken yard debris there several times. Each time we've been there they have been friendly and helpful. I just ran the calculations and am about to place an order for 5 yards of dark hemlock bark dust. They load up my truck quickly and even let me know I had a low tire and offered to help me with it. I ordered 3 yards of their gold 3/4" gravel to cover a back yard I was working on, paid good money but got a lot of clay in with the gravel. It wasn't obvious until it rained and the clay content compacted. also the clay content in the gravel I had already spread over the back yard began congealing and patches of clay began appearing over the surface of the gravel. I called their office to report this and the guy said there shouldn't be any dirt in it as they only sell clean gravel, I told him to come and see for himself. He said would call out in a day or two, he never bothered showing up, I wont be ordering from these any more, as I can't trust them to deliver value for money, which is no good for my business or theirs obviously as I would have been ordering a lot more from them had I been happy with their products and service. read more

We have been using this business for landscape rock and bark dust. Never had a problem before today. After buying several hundreds of dollars of red hemlock, our last two yards had gravel mixed in it. I first spoke to a lady, and she spoke to the manager and relayed our complaint. They wanted us to bring back the load. When we said it was dumped, they said take pictures, and email them. Then if they thought the complaint was valid, refund us for half a yard, verses the two we purchased. When I said that would not work, I then spoke to the manager named Noel or Noah. Apparently he thought I wasnt truthful about the situation. I told him I was filing a complaint. He said "go ahead". I'm sure we are not the first customers complaining about the quality of Highway Fuel products and quality of management. The other employees are great. I immediately filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more
