We are severely disappointed - we had an email with Sarah who confirmed our reservation on 8/15 for tonight at 8/24 @ 6:30pm for party, Jessaid - there is NO communication on the website, the form, or the email that payment is required to secure our reservation. Sarah even writes in response to my partner, jessaid that our reservation is CONFIRMED. We called ahead to let them know we are running a bit late - they say they cannot seat us tonight due to no payment. We asked if we could pay now since this was not communicated to us - no can do, the gal on the phone said. Will not return due to lack of communication on how to properly secure our reservation.
What a great dining experience. With only two seatings a night (6:00/8:00) a couple nights a week, this small, inconspicuous spot is hiding just outside of Rincón. They partner with local farms to take advantage of fresh, seasonal produce and proteins, and the menu is revealed to you the week of your reservation. I liked the intimate setting and warm ambiance. This got me to not only eat but also enjoy things outside of my comfort zone. I'm not usually a fan of pumpkin, but I was given a pumpkin dish that I really liked. Dessert was even a caramelized plantain ice cream! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! This place exceeded my expectations in every way. This is a very personal experience, not a traditional restaurant experience. This husband and wife duo couldn't be more accommodating, they are fantastic. Decor: island vibes, with a view of the cooking chef, books you can read, very chill simple but elegant. Sarah, she has a very soothing voice with a very good attention to detail and she explained every dish superbly Chef, simply put he is a GENIUS in the kitchen. Our entire Menu was EXCELLENT! It was a dance of flavors. You would never know papaya in a soup could taste so delicious n delicate. I can explain every dish but the menu changes as the produce in the island does as well. Sarah and Alex own Reina Mora and also work there. Alex is Sarah's husband and the chef. Sarah handles the orders and reservations. When you book the reservation, you'll get the menu sent via email. It's a four course meal. My meal had a cucumber salad, beef pâté, fish as the main dish, and chocolate cake. The wine is sold by the bottle - they don't have a full service bar. You may bring your own bottle. There's a 15.00 charge to open it. You will be charged for the meal ahead of time to ensure you make the reservation. The experience is one of a kind, and Alex makes all of the dishes. They're fresh and well prepared. Each dish had a district characteristic that stood out, my least favorite was the chocolate cake and the cucumber with cilantro and lime was the most memorable. All of the flavors were fresh and tasted complimentary of each other. The meal started on a high note with different types of cucumbers (even gerkins) but the the dessert citrus flavors clashed at the end and did not live up to the high expectations of the first three courses. A fine dining experience hiding in Rincon, Puerto Rico. There are just not things this level of quality in this area. I was incredibly impressed. First, it can be passed by very easily - no signage and just a white building with a blue door. Be sure to slow down when the gps says you are close. Once you enter it feels as though you are entering someone's living room. There are only 5 wooden tables and we decided to sit at the community table which was a huge part of our experience and I would highly recommend. Please note that they only take reservations through their Instagram page and there is limited seating so be sure to message them far in advance. When they sent the menu (which is constantly changing depending on what they can get fresh) it only stated these 4 items: tomatoes, eggplant, pork belly, and papaya so I wasn't sure what to expect. Each dish that they brought out was bursting with flavor and so well thought out. Believe it or not, the tomatoes were my favorite dish. They were in this citrus sauce with chili oil, peanuts, Thai basil, and cucumbers. We brought a bottle of wine and they had a corkage fee of $18 but they also have bottles and glasses of wine for sale. The restaurant is run by a husband/wife team which I loved. The wife was the server and the husband was the chef. She was lovely and knowledgeable and it felt like we were being hosted by them in their living room. The music they played was a perfect blend of indie rock that I couldn't stop singing to the whole time. And a bonus is that they brought out their rum collection at the end for all of us to add to our desserts if we liked! I called ahead the day of my 8/24 6:30 reservation as a courtesy since I was 5 mins late. When they picked up, they first claimed that I made it for the following weekend 8/30 and hung up on me as I pulled my confirmation emails. When I responded to their 8/24 6:30 reservation confirmation (sent by Sarah on 8/15) and followed up with a call, they then said it was cancelled since they couldnt guarantee reservations if I don't pay in advance as restaurant policy. They also mentioned this was communicated via email - I pulled my emails again and there was no mention there nor on their website. We tried calling once more, but were sent straight to voicemail. We are disappointed about this situation and we were very excited to come. I'm sure this place is excellent, but it stings that they handled this mishap the way they did - attempting to deceive us. I am willing to be proven wrong about them not communicating this to me, but so far they reached out via email admitting that it was their error (not ours). While we appreciate them finally owning up to it, they had every opportunity to remediate this the night of - as we planned our 2 night stay in Rincon (out of 12 days in PR) around this dinner, but they even refused to squeeze us in for later. Had it not been for this failed reservation, we wouldn't have spent time in Rincon at all. Puerto Rico is flush with beautiful beaches all over, the roadtrip to Rincon really isn't necessary - as Reina Mora advertises, they are a destination restaurant with visitors from all Over. What did we learn? This experience galvanized our resolve to ONLY support Puerto Rican owned & operated restaurants, and we encourage you to do the same. We instead went to a Puerto Rican owned restaurant and spent our money there. Shout out to De Raíz in Mayagüez for accommodating us last minute, where they heard our story and gave us free champagne to make our night better. THAT, my friends, is the service and hospitality Puerto Ricans are known for. As a native of PR, I implore you to reconsider supporting this place and instead go to a PR owned business. La Cocina al Fondo in Santurce also comes to mind as another great alternative run by Puerto Rican women with a James Beard award under their belt - and phenomenal service. read more
