Unfortunately this was my least favorite restaurant in the area. I should've listened to the other reviews that said they treat the patrons like tourists. When I asked for recommendations, he immediately recommended the lobster. I immediately knew I was on my own. I ended up ordering the fish tacos and they were flavorless and underwhelming. The tortillas came soggy. The sides were cheese and sour cream which I found very odd. Unfortunately I couldn't even finish half the meal. I also ordered the mojito flight. One of my friends came across Palo restaurant while looking for dinner options for us, and given my nickname, Palo is an easy decision. We started with Jugo de Parcha, and since it was our last night, I also had a drink: their Version of an espresso martini made with rum, which was really good. We had Sorullos for appetizers, which were authentically and deliciously made. My friends had the carne frita with arroz y habichuelas for their mains, and I had the Mofongo de carne frita. I loved the mofongo; it had great texture and flavor, and the carne frita was good. Overall, Palo was amazing. The service was extremely kind and attentive. The place is well located with access to the beach. They have really nice views of the ocean and a big terrace. There is accessible parking available although it can get full. The drinks are really good. The staff is friendly but they treat you like a tourist if they sense it. Not as welcoming as some of the other more local spots. As for the food it was bland and not necessarily fresh. We got a bunch of seafood dishes including the dorado, shrimp, and some of their recommended mofongos but we were not impressed and wouldn't necessarily go back for the food. read more

Wanted to love this place...got here....ordered..watched sunset..hour past. I ordered the Plantain Soup..Mahi bites and my son ordered the bacon mac and cheese hamburger. After an hour and half. Burger came out raw...no bacon. Plantain soup probably the most flavorless I've had. Mahi bites were ok but just was expecting a bit more. I asked about food after an hour and they told me that the waitress did tell us there would be a 40 to 50 minute wait for food...never happened. This restaurant has the most spectacular view of Hobo Beach. You can see waves crashing, surfers, and just the most beautiful scenery from their patio dining. The ambiance is just great. As for the drinks, I had a passion fruit mojito that was out of this world. For my apps, we had the cod fish fritters. These were gummy, and flavorless. They were in a kind of sauce that was equally as flavorless and paste like. We also had the montaditos which were pretty good. For my meal, I got the mofongo con carne frito. Good flavor and portion but very greasy. The service was on island time for sure. We waited and waited just to get the server to take our drink order.. over a half hour and we made sure to put in our food order at the same time in case they didn't come back. Dining at Palo restaurant near Jobos Beach was one of the most relaxing and picturesque lunches I've ever had. Perhaps it was the absolutely perfect weather that day, or the gentle breeze as I enjoyed my meal on the patio--but the entire experience felt like pure bliss. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. When I shared my food intolerances, they made sure to guide me toward dishes I could enjoy. They offer a full bar at the establishment, but I ordered a traditional Puerto Rican mojito. Instead, I ordered the mofongo relleno de mero (stuffed grouper mofongo) with their ajillo cream sauce, and let me just say--it was amazing! The grouper was light, buttery, and cooked to perfection, while the creamy garlic sauce was rich and smooth, pairing perfectly with the mofongo. We also tried the Cajun tuna with lime crust, which was another standout. The tuna was seared perfectly, leaving the inside beautifully medium rare, and the richly seasoned potatoes on the side elevated the dish even more. Between the incredible food, the salty sea breeze, and the sound of waves crashing just feet away, this meal felt like a little slice of heaven. I can't wait to return! read more

Let me begin always with the positive. Last night Tuesday I had dinner here. The service & food was exceptional. Which brought me back tonight. Let's start with the table it wobbled, The server attempted to correct it with no success. She never asked for help didn't bother. I was looking forward to having a mojito which wasn't at all good. i had to ask for a straw, knives, fork and spoon. i ordered the fried cheese balls as an appetizer they were just okay. As an entree i order salmon i asked for medium lightly pink it came raw it went back. The entree came with either white rice & red beans that needed salt which btw i never add if made well. By the time the salmon came it was over cooked. & i had finished the side dish. I didn't eat the salmon so I order fried plantains (tostones) still hungry & you may ask what can go wrong with fried plantains? They didn't ask me what kind of sauce i wanted like the server did the night before. It was some kind of Mayo ketchup sauce. Sometimes chef's want to do something different in this case they should stick to the traditional fresh garlic, olive oil & salt. I never ate the salmon, not only was it not medium but it did not taste fresh at all. I know what fresh taste like I'm married to a man in the fishing business. I eat fish everyday. Although the view and ambiance is delightful paying $69 for a meal & not enjoying it suggest very little experience both in service & hospitality. A buy back of coffee, drink or desert would have been a little professional. No one asked me why i didn't eat the salmon. As if it didn't happen. Again, lack of experience this is not how you bring back guest. It's how they write a bad review & never go back. read more

We waited nearly 20 minutes just to be acknowledged and then about 45 minutes for our food. Staff explained the delay by saying it was busy and a holiday, but the restaurant was not busy when we arrived. Even after paying, we still had to wait for our food. While our server was polite and apologetic, what really concerned me was seeing staff in the kitchen laughing loudly near our food. It completely ruined my confidence in the meal, and I ended up throwing it out as soon as we left. Unfortunately, this was not a good experience, and I would not return. read more

I'll start with the good things. The location is BEAUTIFUL and sits right on the water. Our waiter was very kind and helpful when choosing our meals. The mojito and pina colada were also devine. I wouldn't say these things are bad, but just not good enough for a 5 star review.... Parking is chaotic. With the narrow roads and street parking plus a congested area - just be prepared. When we arrived a waitress told us the wait would be over an hour, despite seeing empty tables. We agreed to wait and within 5 minutes another waiter arrived and sat us immediately. The food is meh.. several in our group got the shrimp and chicken tacos and the food just lacked seasoning. Everything comes separate so you can build your own tacos, but it just lacked flavor. One person in our group got mofongo and said it was just "okay." Would probably go back for the view, the drinks and some appetizers but don't look for this place to knock your socks off. read more

I'll start this review with the ambiance - it's directly ocean front with truly incredible views. That in itself makes Palo worth visiting but the service was fantastic as well. Eli was our server, he was super friendly and patient with my mothers questions, he was just generally a lot of fun. All of his favorite things he recommended were great, loved the beach monkey cocktail as well as the tempura bites. Food was good! Excited to come back. I will note - we tried to come by on a Sunday around 6pm and couldn't get near the place it was so busy. We came back on a Tuesday around 4:30pm and it was much slower, we could pick any table we wanted. During high season, I'd recommend an early meal so you can enjoy your table for a relaxed, long experience. read more

Although the food was pretty good, we waited over 1 hour and 30 minutes for food and we ordered within the first 15 minutes. It took so long we were falling asleep at dinner. I ordered the criollo bowl and the food was pretty good. It was missing the avocado and they swapped the vegan chik'n without letting me know. We also ordered the creamy chicken breast and it was fine. The crema was good the chicken was okay. It was a bit pink inside. The pineapple bbq veggie burger was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The beach monkey was actually pretty good. It was similar to a spiked limeade. The piña coladas were okay, the ice wasn't blended well and was very foamy. Overall, there were many plant based options which was a plus; however the slow service killed the entire experience. The view is beautiful, you probably won't get another view like this over dinner nearby. I wish I could give it more stars because the food wasn't bad, but the service was terrible. Not the best experience. Admittedly we were a large group of 9. But as one other reviewer noted the time from ordering food to receiving it became excruciatingly long. 1:45 or a full 2 hours depending upon the restaurant's watch, or ours. There were 12 tables being served and we counted 6 waiters. But despite multiple trips to management we couldn't persuade them to bring out any orders. They seemingly wanted to bring out everyone's order at the same time and somebody ordered fish. We surmised someone had to get on a boat and go fishing for it. Soup was brought out but it was cold and was sent back. When the manager came out to discuss the delay we were shown a time stamp on the order submitted to the kitchen. If accurate, there was a 30 minute delay from the time the waiter had our orders until the time he actually submitted them to the kitchen. Half our group said the food was eventually good. But half thought it was just okay. Still, 3 hours from arrival to departure. And this, with a 3pm arrival time and no waiting to be seated since it was between the lunch and dinner crowds. read more
