2017's 100 Reviews Challenge! 7/100:…read more "K-fé D' Aquí" is a small kiosk-like coffee shop right in Camuy's downtown plaza. They prepare local Puerto Rico coffee and have a small, but complete, coffee menu. They also serve sandwiches and pastries, even though you don't see the menu around; you just have to ask for the menu. Sandwiches and coffee are prepared right there and then and everything is fresh. Pastries and brought in daily. Ladies serving the coffee shop are attentive, polite and quick to prepare your order. Went there once and asked for a "Double shot latte" or as the locals call it "Café con leche". For those of you who don't know much about Puerto Rico's coffee culture... Most Puerto Ricans take their coffee with milk and technically, it's not a Latte since Lattes tend to have more milk than coffee, while the "café con leche" has 75% coffee and the rest is milk. So even though it's not a "machiato or cortadito", coffee with milk tends to be a bit darker than your regular latte. Besides that, Juan had "un café espresso negro", which would translate to a double espresso. We were both pleased with our coffees and I had to task for a second one because I was craving good old fashioned "Café con leche". These three coffees came out to a total of little under $5.00. Not bad, huh!? If in the area, definitely stop here to enjoy the plaza, the surroundings, culture and most importantly, great inexpensive coffee!

Plastic, so it can be wiped clean if you spill your coffee on it. Thoughtfully laid out with morning/all day offers at the beginning, followed by lunch choices. Then, drinks and, hallelujah, on the back of the last page: Cocktails! Aperol Spritz, Espresso Martini, for example. Prices are sub-$10, which is phenomenal. And, they are professionally and properly made (we tried three). My cappuccino was also barista quality and BIG. We were impressed. Our breakfasts looked as good as they tasted. There is a well-trained professional chef behind those kitchen doors who understands both food preparation and presentation. My son (second time there) swears their pancakes are off the hook. Gringo friendly, in case you were wondering. English spoken, but everyone there when we were visiting was Puerto Rican, except me, including my son (figure that one out!). I am looking forward to a future visit. If I lived here, this would become a regular stop. P.S. Service can seem a little slow. But, I think it is better to call it "deliberate." This not a knock on the restaurant. Our server was excellent. But, just a heads-up that preparing quality just may take a few minutes extra.

I really liked their coffee. This wasn't bland US-style restaurant brew Folgers coffee. It's the good stuff (and reasonably priced). I had some hot prepared food from their cafeteria area. It was good. But, the real winner is their Cuban sandwich. My son got one and it was huge. Like more than a foot long. Not only is it big, it is delicious. I would say probably the best one I've ever had (and I've had them in Miami and elsewhere). Pastries and sweets are yummy too. You won't leave here hungry. Nice little stop along the road if you're passing through the area.

Try the Guava Cheese pastry or there's one made with Ladyfingers and cream cheese. Awesome Cherry turnovers. We tried like 11 things in the 2 trips we made. All of them were great. Very friendly staff, let me practice my Español and remembered us when we came back. So sweet, asked us if we liked our Airbnb. I just wished that I had gotten pics of the inside. It is beautiful and cozy looking even though it's pretty large. They are open until 10 at night so we were able to scoot in on our way back from hiking tours and have our stuff for breakfast. Unusual for someone living stateside to see. Stop in and try them, you won't go anywhere else for your pastry.
