I recently tried to book services with stylist Kim Brooks who did my hair in 2021 an it turned out amazing. I had returned to Reinvent you in August of 2021 to see Shantel who also styled my lace front very well. I had since relocated to New Jersey and returned in July on 22. I had gotten some coloring done to my hair in Jersey and wanted a color touch up and haircut since my hair had been breaking. I informed the stylist Kim and she let me know that I had to book a consultation for color service. (Please see attached screen shots of the conversation we had in reference to scheduling an appointment) . Kim was completely dismissive in efforts to schedule my appointment correctly. I am writing this review to express why I would never return to this stylist and this establishment in all. As a hygienist, if a patient calls and says hey my tooth hurts I need an extraction... We don't just book their appointment for an extraction, we have to bring them in, take x-rays and determine the procedure that needs to be done. I would NEVER tell a patient they don't need to come see me because I can't perform the services they're requesting to be rendered. If services can not be rendered, we stabilize the patient, get them out of pain and send them a referral to see a specialist. I originally booked with Reinvent you because of the "reinvent" the name and the service categories. At that time I wanted a transformation in which I received. I wanted a new transformation this time as well in efforts to confidently wear my hair again. She told me she wouldn't color hair that is breaking in which I respect. I asked to come in for a color consultation along with a hair cut to at least even out my hair. She told me I did not need to come in. I felt that this was very dismissive and lacked professionalism and care. I was under the impression that stylists take pride in being a hairstylist and what they do best until today's encounter. I can only base my review on the eyebrow services. I walked in without an appointment and the owner, Kenlethia (sp?) was able to see me with a very minimal wait. Don't expect to just get your eyebrows threaded. She will also fill in any sparse spots with an eyebrow pencil and add a little concealer to highlight the brows...all for $15! IF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR STAY AWAY. If I could give 0 stars I would. Let me preface this by saying, I have 4b/4c hair. When I initially showed up at the salon, this hair was a little past shoulder length when stretched. I went to the owner Kanithia based on the recommendation of a co-worker and trusted friend who also had natural hair. She told me this salon was gentle with natural hair. I didn't find this to be true. The was assistant initially wanted to detangle my hair while dry. That is a huge no-no for us naturals. I had to ask her to detangle with conditioner. I figured Kinithia, being the stylist and owner would be better. (Boy was i wrong.) I told Kanithia exactly what I wanted: which was to shape the hair so it was rounder and to trim off the dead ends. I found her to be rough when detangling and combing the hair, which wasn't gentle on the ends at all. Also, she cut the hair while it was wet, which, looking back, should have been a huge red flag for me. Natural hair is known to shrink a lot, and us 4c girls have the most shrinkage. Unfortunately, my friend's hair looked amazing and I thought mine would look the same, so I remained in the chair despite my doubts. Altogether Kanithia cut off about 4-5 inches off my hair taking it from shoulder length to chin length (in some cases shorter) and setting me back about a year's worth of growth. I am incredibly disappointed and know I will not be coming back to this shop any time soon. Bottom line: I advise anyone who is coming here to look elsewhere, there are great stylists in DC who can cut natural hair well. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. My niece went to this god awful shop and the owner said that her hair was tangled and she had a schedule to keep so she couldn't do her hair. My niece had an appointment and spent $30 on an Uber to get to this place. My niece goes to Howard University and this is their home coming weekend. This lady told her that she is grown and don't have time to untangle her hair. You are a stylist and your job is to untangle hair. So I guess black women must have perms in order for you to service them. This shop owner is lucky she did this to a 18 year old kid because a grown woman would not have accepted this foolishness. Good: Kanithia is talented. Her shop is quaint and stylish, just like her. I really loved my hair and the products she uses. I wear natural hair and I'm trying to grow it out, so I didn't utilize any of her cutting or color skills, but seeing her customers walk out was enough - their hair was BANGING! She definitely knows what she is doing, and does it very, very well. Bad: I HATE WAITING, like HATE. During both visits I waited substantial time before being assisted. The first visit, I waited nearly an hour and half. The second visit, I waited 45 minutes (I was 15 minutes late - totally my bad, so there was an hour delay). The reality is, I'm a professional woman and I simply don't have time to sit in the salon waiting. If my appointment is at 2 pm, I expect to be helped at 2 pm or shortly thereafter. It's a catch 22 though. Because of Kanithia's talent, I will certainly be back. I pray the wait is shorter and her scheduling/time management improves. read more

Full disclosure: I know nothing about styling my hair. I knew I wanted to get my hair dyed (get rid of some gray hairs before my wedding) and that's it. Also, I needed a place that could accommodate me coming after work and be metro accessible. Thanks to the lovely reviews below, I tried Kanithia at Reinvent You, and I was not disappointed. Customer service is everything! during Covid I decided to start going to this salon for eyebrows only. Since July 2020, I have had by brows done about 3 times and sent my mom to the salon as well in August. The first time I booked I had to go through the shops IG page through DM to get info for the girl who does brows. I believe if you're going to provide someone's number then they should be responsive. Fast forward to this last week, I attempted again to contact the young lady to do my eyebrows and no response. I attempted to call the shop multiple times and no one ever answered. I went through online booking and with that you have to wait for someone to get back with you. I like to plan accordingly so it was imperative to find out weather or not the time requested and service would be able to be provided. Again, I reached out respectfully through DM on IG and the message was "seen" but ignored. I subsequently canceled the still pending apt. Communication is key. I am a flexible and pretty understanding person but bad customer service is not acceptable. Just FYI, of the three times I did get my brows done..they mostly came out fine. Only one occasion were they uneven but the young lady did compensate for that. I will say the young lady who did my eyebrows was very sweet, it's just the no reply/lack of communication. read more

I'm thinking, I'm in the, "Nations Capital" surely this search for a stylist can't be that hard. Nevertheless, I was disappointed time and time again until I came across this salon on Yelp. Well what can I say...nothing positive I'll tell you that. I decided to try this hair salon for a BASIC TRIM due to my regular stylist not being available. I went on yelp as well as Instagram to do research. I came across this hair salon and decided to wing it even though I was skeptical. I scheduled (Wednesday May 30th) online for a TRIM on June 1,2018 @ 9:30am w/ a lady by the name of Sacona. In the process of scheduling, I took off work and scheduled my day around that appt. time. I received at least 2 text messages the day I scheduled my appt. and the day after to confirm my appt. date and time. I even received a text at 1:29am the day of my appt. SO the day comes, I'm getting myself ready to head down to Northeast coming from PG county I know traffic was expected. I received another text @ 7:24 am (2 hours before my appt.) saying "YOUR APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 12:45pm W/ Sacona". At this point I'm confused because I don't know why or how my appt. was moved without at least a 24 hour warning or heads up. Instead I received it 2 hours before my appt. It is completely unprofessional and unacceptable for someone or the system to change my appt. without some kind of 24 notice. Again I was already skeptical but that just put the cherry on top. Its not like any of the stylists didn't have my contact info to make me aware of this change. THERES A LACK OF COMMON COURTESY EVIDENTLY. You don't treat your clients like that. This experience just left a sour taste in my mouth all together and I wasn't even in the salon chair. I've actually called the salon since it opened at 10am trying to get in touch with the stylist or at least the manager to voice my concerns but of course no one was available to answer the phone. I took a chance to go to Reinvent You after seeing a lady in the line at the post office who had an amazing pixie cut. Asked her where she got it and she told me about this salon. So I checked their website and booked an appointment using the salon's online tool, the took myself all the way from where I live in NW DC/DuPont Circle to see Kinithia this afternoon. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm impressed. She wielded those scissors like a magician. Gave me the best short cut I've had in my 42 years. She's got a quiet confidence; not too chatty, not too quiet. Offered frank, honest advice on what look would suit me (and didn't push it to the extreme). Just what you want when visiting a new stylist. The salon itself is really cute, clean and fun. And the vibe is relaxed and really friendly. I chatted about life with another customer and friend of the owner's while snacking on complimentary nuts and chocolate candies. Didn't get a chance to try the Kuerig coffee but it's there if you need it. All in all, super impressed! 5* BIG stars! read more

Where do i start. First of all I've known Kanithia (The owner) since middle school. She was doing hair then and it's her passion, with that said she followed her dreams. Her shop is the cutest and everyone are professionals. I first went to her because I wanted a hair cut and color. I had a vision and they made it a reality. I got compliments from women to men young and old they all loved my hair. I was so satisfied I kept going back and I was always pleased. I've gotten my lashes done and again she out did herself no one knew they were fake until I said something, people thought I used some good mascara. I hired her for my wedding and again she did her thing. She was on time and set up so fast because we were on a tight schedule. She did deep waves with soft curls into a side updo and it looked so beautiful. I explained to her that i wanted a vintage Victorian look and that is exactly what i got.She also did my makeup, my only request was a neutral look. She said to me "got it I have a vision," she put me at ease and i let her work her magic. She made me look like a super star. I will continue to visit her for any hair and beauty needs. Keep in mind i know nothing of hair, but she makes you understand everything that she is doing. Another thing i forgot to mention is that while I'm waiting or waiting for my color to set I love to watch her work miracles on other people her shop is named so appropriately, she will reinvent you and you will be pleased. read more
