This review is for Sera…read more I completely understand that a stylist's time is valuable, and I know it's frustrating when clients are late. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.

Any salon would have easily provided a (normal) soft, feminine, sexy, natural cut that is subtle perhaps at different skill levels. This guy clearly had no concept of how to cut (straight) hair because his clueless messes get disguised easily in wavy or curly hair or in a blow dry with curling brush.

I appreciate the attempt to make this right although it still seems somewhat half-hearted. 4/27/18 Please look up "Zhen Lin" on yelp to see my review of the stylist who did my hair and more pics of the highlights she gave me. There was obviously a major misunderstanding. Why on earth anyone would want super blonde highlights on top of dark brown hair in 2018 is beyond me. This is not at all what I asked for. I asked for a natural looking balayage and showed Zhen literally four different pictures of examples I liked. I expressed that I really wanted the hair to look natural, blended and not ombre'd or striped. Both Zhen and the manager refused to try to make it right when I expressed my disappointment in my hair. Neither offering to help fix it, nor a refund. I had to pay $250 for something that was the opposite of what I wanted. After begging in person for them to help, I left another pleading phone message tonight for them to help me fix this mess, or refund my money as I can only imagine what a color correction will cost at another salon. I absolutely hate writing bad reviews about people and wouldn't have posted this if I didn't feel completely swindled, disrespected and brushed aside. I'm really hoping they'll get back to me, and I'll update this review if they decide to do the right thing. In the meantime, I'm beyond disappointed and disgusted!

I went to Blondie's for the first time in May 2011 for a color, cut and a keratin treatment. Firstly, the receptionist was super helpful and answered all my questions without rushing me which helped me to decided to book my first ever keratin treatment (Simply Smooth - no chemicals). I have awkward hair, it's thin but there's a lot of it, it's frizzy and I am going grey/white considerably but my natural color is chocolate brown. I had been searching for a salon that used a specific L'Oreal product that after a decade of coloring seems to be the one I get best results with. I can only get it in the UK it seems but Blondie's gave me some options and my hairdresser - Elena, was extremely sympathetic to my concerns and to the disasters I have had sinve moving to the states. We went with a glaze to start with to try and blend the grey and she seemed perfectly open to re-doing it if I wasn't happy. She also - and a lot of folks will appreciate this - is not sissor happy and trimmed my hair nicely because I am growing it for my wedding. So I would highly recommend the place and Elana - the cut and color price was reasonable compared to other DC prices and I felt comfortable that if I wasn't happy they were more than happy to try again. Elena is super sweet and took a lot of care. I want to review the Simply Smooth Keratin Treatment as well though because it was a big decision to make and it didn't quite work in the way I had hoped. I checked on the process before going and Elena did everything as expected, took her time and talked me through the whole thing. I did as instructed and didn't wash, brush, tie or touch my hair for four days which was really tough. You have to go back to the salon to have it washed and blown out (basically to make you stick to the full four days). It took hardly any time to blow dry which is suposed to be one of the advatanges - it was shiny but not super shiny like you see in the advertizements, it was pretty flat and (Elena did warn me about this) I had a lot of spit ends from when the keratin was flat ironed in. This was disappointing becuase I never ever use flat irons and always use heat protection for blow drying so I actually feel it made my hair look in worse condition up close. June has been maga humid so a good test since it was the fizz I was aiming to rid. The first day I walked to work I arrived with mostly frizz free hair on top including my bangs but my hair around my neck and underneath had fluffed which overall looked a bit odd. Day after day it got a little worse underneath so I kept to a pony tail but my bangs stayed frizz free which I was happy about. It is suposed to last around 12 weeks but after two I had people suggesting to me "you should get a keratin treatment" and because I was using the special shampoo and conditioner and no other products (sulpher, salt and alcohol in most products destroy the keratin) I wasn't getting a nice smooth/bouncy finish that I can get with my pre-keratin routine. I like the shampoo though, it smells nice and really foams, the conditioner I don't like, you need a lot and it doesn't detangle hair, in fact, my hair has been harder to manage in that respect, getting a lot more knots after washing because my normal conditioner would de-tangle nicely. Given how expensive the treatment is and that there is no garuntee it will deliver total frizz free hair for 12 weeks I recommend only getting it if you have a coupon for somewhere. I feel like I spent several hundred dollars and still come home from a night out with big fluffy hair - I just went on vacation in NC and am so disappointed that in all our photos I still have crazy hair. If you can't decide you should wait for a coupon for the non-chemical version of the treatment and try - if you hate frizz as much as I do then two weeks with frizz free bangs is probably worth a hundred bucks but not 300 or 400! read more

A friend recommended Blondie to me and when I called, I told them that I have long curly hair and wanted to chop it all off into a fun sassy bob. I asked -- who would be the best to that? They said Mike and scheduled me with him. When I got there he listened to what I wanted, which was pretty vague -- chop it off, bob, fun like Victoria Beckham but without such a dramatic length variance. I told him I had been growing out my hair for Locks for Love and it was time to cut it off (it was down to the middle of my back). I warned him that I've never had hair shorter than shoulder length and that I was putting my trust in him to make me look good .... Well he made me look fabulous! He spent almost two hours on me. Cutting, washing, cutting some more, then he blew it out, styled it, and then cut again to make it perfect. I felt transformed while sitting his chair. Everyone in the salon was watching and smiling, adoring his work. When he was satisfied with his work, he let me take a full look. I loved it -- absolutely loved it. He turned to me and reminded me how much work went into it and that I better work it! I left the salon walking on air! Later that evening I went to a party to show off my new hair. My friends said I looked like a new person, they loved it! People who I hadn't met said that the cut really suited me. It makes me look thinner, fresh, and modern -- much more professional. The upside is that I can wear the cut straight or curly - straight is definitely sexy and professional, very sleek, while curly is fun, sassy, and a little more casual and wild. I swear by Mike and highly recommend him to anyone who is nervous about cutting their long hair or who wants an amazing bob. He definitely puts in the time and effort to make sure that you and he both love your hair. He is definitely my go-to and I wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair from this point forward!! Oh and the best part -- my whole life I've paid about $15-20 for my hair cuts. I was afraid that a big fancy salon would charge an insane amount, like over $100 --- not the case here. For all that work, the total cost was only $70! I know that's a big increase from what I used to pay -- but the expertise, time, and effort -- as well as the final product -- made $70 a bargain! read more

ME: A bride-to-be with slightly greying medium brown hair looking for natural coverage for my wedding. After reading several reviews from Yelp, I decided to go to Elena at Blondies. MY REQUEST: "I'm not sure what I need since I don't get my hair dyed ever (whether it's highlights, lowlights, or semi-permanent all over color, but I want my hair to stay its natural color). Err on the side of too dark." WHAT I GOT: BRIGHT BLONDE HIGHLIGHTS I hysterically cried for over a week. I called to get my hair fixed. The owner of the salon, Linh, wanted me to come back and have Elena fix it - UM, after the apparent communication barrier (Err on the side of dark?) I was not about to give her another try less than 3 months before my wedding. Here is the equally diappointing part - Linh offered to fix my hair so I went during lunch to get my hair dyed dark. He put a semi-permanent dye on my hair which made it look my natural color. BUT, it washed out less than 4 days later and I was blonde again. I went to anolther salon in DC, and my colorist asked why he would dye it the color of my natural hair - it should be 2-3 shades darker to cover the color. I'm pleased to say that another salon fixed my hair. I will never go back to Blondies as I could end up with purple hair next time. read more

I always get my haircut from a long time friend. But I have to go home to Bel Air to get that done. (shout out to Jenny T) It just became a hassle. So I read some reviews on yelp and decided to got to Blondies. I made my appointment with Bryan. Whenever you go to a new stylist for a haircut you never know what to expect. I got my color done and it was fabulous. Very edgy but sophisticated. I left with a good haircut but it wasnt what I expected. Don't get me wrong it looked good but was a little conservative for what I was going for. Now, I am a person who has a hard time saying that I dont like a haircut but I really thought that I should atleast call back to see if Bryan would recut my hair. And he was great about it. I mean he got me the next day and really sat down with me to make sure I was happy. Needless to say that I walked out beaming. I got the haircut I wanted and was just super elated that it worked out. He was so accomodating and what it really came down to was it is so hard to know what people mean when they want something edgy because he has done it all and well sometimes on the first cut it is better safe than sorry. Im adding a 5-star review for Blondies because it looks like my review from January was taken off. ( I guess my bullet points on all of the reasons I was happy with Blondies looked like an ad to yelp staff) Anyways. they're great. Im picky and Ive gone to a ton of hair salons, and after both of my cuts and highlights there, I left with amazing hair. They really treat their coloring like a science, and I was so pleased by their professionalism. I was even late for my second appointment and they worked me it which I am so thankful for -- it wasnt even expecting them to be as accommodating as they were. Here was my previous review: I went to Gina after and absolutely horrible highlight elsewhere, and she completely saved my hair color! It has never been better! She didn't rush me through like other salons tend to do with their clients, and took time to discuss with me exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend Blondie's. Additional things I like: The staff very is personable and they all take their work seriously. Wine and other drinks are complementary. Excellent ambiance. I have lived in the DC area for several years, and have struck out so many times with salons and stylists. On more than one occasion I've found stylists that give me a great cut the first time around, but then severely mess up on the second or third cut. Shattered hair dreams. Finally, about a year and a half ago, a friend recommended that I see Rachel at Blondie's. She is wonderful, and I realized when I left the salon with yet another great cut yesterday, that I should probably submit my first Yelp review to sing her praises. I always leave Blondie's feeling delighted with my new cut. This is probably because Rachel listens to what I want, has a great eye, and isn't afraid to steer me away if I have an idea would probably look awful on me, or would just be too hard to style. I appreciate that, because my hair is very thick and naturally wavy, and I suck at using a round brush to blow it out. I really do. Sad. Along those lines, she's also good at giving me cuts that I can wear blown out or wavy. As an added bonus, the salon has a very friendly vibe, and you get a great head massage with your shampoo. read more

A good friend recommended Chris for a cut and color and he did a fantastic job. He asked me what I wanted, listened to me blabber on and on, and had some great ideas when I asked for his suggestions. He came up with a beautiful, rich color that left my mousy brown hair so shiny and soft. I was super impressed! Chris is really fun to talk to and the time flew by. I left the salon looking and feeling terrific. I've been back for just a cut and asked for Chris again. Told him I didn't care what he did - just chop some off. He gave me long layers in the back and framed my face a little up front. It was a really cute cut and just different enough to relieve my boredom with fine, straight hair. Can't wait for him to try highlights next. The salon has a really cool vibe. Clean interior, huge windows, complimentary beverages (great glass of wine makes for a relaxing salon visit), and a friendly, down-to-earth staff. I highly recommend Blondie's and Chris (trust him for great color). So glad to find a go-to stylist and salon downtown that has it all together. read more

I just had my hair cut at Blondie's by Linh for the first time and had a great experience. I had tried several salons around DC and hadn't found a place that I want to stick with, but I think Blondie's fits the bill. The atmosphere is very relaxed and pleasant, but modern. The staff is very friendly - no snobbishness. Linh was clearly very knowledgeable about different types of hair and seemed to know exactly what mine needed (I have chin-length wavy hair). I also really appreciated that he didn't try to push any expensive hair products on me at the end. The cut was $65, which is a little on the pricier side (for me anyway), but it was worth it for all the reasons listed above. Even when I went to pay and was horribly embarrassed that I forgot to bring cash for a tip, the woman at the desk was very understanding and pointed out the nearest atm. This was my first visit to Blondies, and i was very impressed. Its no coincidence they have red carpet on the stairs up to this 2nd floor salon, because once you get to the top, the service truly is five- star worthy. I was greeted by a very friendly front desk and then sat down with a glass of wine. My stylist was a stylish blonde Jana, who really knew her stuff. I have really frizzy, kind of thick hair and a tricky cowlick in the front, and she listened to me while I explained I would love my bangs cut so they work with this because I've had a few bad experiences with it. (awful poofy 80's bangs a couple months back eek!) She did a amazing job though and I ended up with lots of layers and the best bang I think I've ever had!! I love Yelp and depend on the reviews quite often, but haven't taken the time to toss up a review myself...until now. I have to give props when they're due people. Unlike many salons in dee cee where you feel like you're walking onto the set of "Mean Girls," Blondie's has a professional, yet very chill feel about it and a super friendly staff. I have gone to Chris a few times and am hooked! With each visit, he listens to what I want and works the magic...a bit shorter here, little longer there...perfection! Like many gay men, my hair is kinda (read: very) important and we all know a good haircut can put a needed pep in the step on an otherwise sour day. Moreover, Chris is very friendly, easygoing, and fun to chat with while getting my monthly cut. I've recommended Chris to several friends, guys and girls, and they've all applauded his work. LOVE it. I went to Charles after a pretty nasty melt down brought on by what I felt was a color emergency from a trip to another salon. Charles was able to slip me in the very next day, on a weekend no less, when they heard the desperation in my voice. Charles took a heinous accident and turned it into something remarkable- not only do it look amazing- but it was what i asked for- not the stylists interpretation of the color i asked for. He really listens and is REALLY good at was he does. Hes also the nicest guy to boot- i would go back for a trim or a highlight once a week if I had the cash just to get to hang out with him. I have had my hair done by Kuki for the past 4 years since I moved to DC. She colors and gives me a very good cut. I am Black and have very fine, soft hair. She can blow dry it straight and on non-humid days I wear it like this. Most of the time I wear natural curls that are very pretty and for the past year I get highlights every 3 months which adds an even better definition to my curls. I have been to the salon twice; once for color/cut with Kuki and the second time for a brow wax (Grace), which was done very well. Grace is excellent and takes her ti me. The salon is clean and everyone there seems to be very helpful. When I left and went to a store in the area, someone commented on my hair and I gave them Kuki's name. Finally. I have found my salon and stylist. Charles is my man.... fun to talk to, attentive, and, most important, talented. He gave me some badly needed style and some subtle, but rich color. I've received many compliments on my look this past week. And I've been complimenting myself too... well, aren't you cute! :) The whole experience at Blondie's was a treat. Everyone there treated me like I was important, not just another paying customer. They gave me water, they gave me wine... they probably would have whipped up a cappuccino had I asked for one. The best part was that I didn't get that typical snotty "I'm hot, you're not" attitude that I have experienced at many other salons. I am a loyal Blondies customer due to Grace. I have been going to her for some time for my nails and waxing. She is extremely meticulous, very clean and takes great pride in her work. In addition, she is friendly and pleasant. My manicures last for about four to five days (which for me is a long time) and my pedicures about a month. She is by far the best waxer I have experienced. I have referred other friends to Grace who have all been extremely pleased with her services. Last year I also had my hair cut at Blondies by Charles. It was the best haircut I have ever had! I went to Blondie's Hair Salon and i got recommended with Gina by one of my friends so i got my hair done with Gina but i didn't know that Gina was one of the bosses. As soon as i came in she was VERY RUDE to me.(i knew i should have left) Coming here was a bad dessission. Gina was very quiet she did not speak to me at all i thought my friend wanted for me to enjoy my appointment not run away from my appointment!!???!!! I will NOT BE GOING BACK. BRIAN IS THE SHIT!!!!!!!!!! I'm 27 and I've been dying my hair since I was 15 and he does the best color and blow dry that I've ever seen..I used to spend 3 hours in the dominicans getting my hair set then blow dried... Brian can blow dry my hair in 25-30 min then if i want it flat ironed that might be another 5-10...HEs amazing..I live in ny and I travel alll the way back to dc to get my hair colored by Brian..He's the only hairstylist that I've ever been to that colors your hair exactly how you want it...He doesnt do what he wants to do, he does what you u want to do, which is a very rare find in hairdressers....I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I've been going to Blondie's ever since it opened and have always been extremely happy with the results. Gina, Roberto and Linh are all fabulous with color (I've only received blonde highlights) and cuts. Gina is my main stylist and I've always appreciated that she had a plan for my hairstyle. Each visit she would ask and evaluate on the progress of my style and provide honest feedback on what would look good. Eventually I would just sit down and let her do what she felt was best! bryan is AWESOME!!!! he's been doing my hair since i moved to dc about a year and a half ago. i lucked into finding him when i saw a girl walking out of the salon with an awesome haircut. i asked her who did it and she told me bryan. i made an appointment with him about five minutes later. i followed bryan from his old salon because he's such a rockstar. i've already sent four of my friends to him...and they all look better for it! i'm always getting strangers who ask me where i get my hair done...so i end up giving out his card on the street about a zillion times a day. i wouldn't let anybody else in dc do my hair. he's the best. read more

Last week, I went to Blondie's for my third haircut by Kuki. I have very curly, hard-to-handle red hair and I went to her last October desperate to find someone who knew how to deal with curly hair. Kuki recommended a texturizing treatment that made my hair so soft and noticeably less frizzy, something I think any curly haired girl can appreciate! I've gotten my hair texturized twice now and each time, I have wondered why people weren't recommending this to me years ago. Kuki's prices are reasonable and the atmosphere of Blondie's is so relaxed. Definitely the best hair salon I've been to in DC thus far. read more

I was then ushered to the register and charged full price. Looking back, I still can't believe a stylist would let a client leave with their hair looking the way mine did. The photos speak for themselves: my hair was fuller and healthier before the appointment, and afterward I lost a significant amount of density and shape. I literally couldn't look in the mirror without crying for months. It has taken me a long time to regrow and recover from this haircut. I'm not writing this because I dislike Sabrina personally or because I'm seeking a refund. I'm writing it because I don't want someone else with fine curls to have the same experience I did (especially after spending over $200). This happened a while ago, and I sincerely hope her technique has improved since then. But based on my experience, I can't recommend her for fine curly hair.

I had explained very clearly that I wanted a minimal haircut, that preserved the curls and the volume. I just wanted a clean-up essentially. Michelle ended up cutting about 2 inches from the hair in the back. This set back about 4 months of growth. Now I'm out $150, and I would pay twice as much to have back my hair as it was it this morning. Needless to say, I won't be going back.

Jalessea was diligent, gentle, and gave me the exact hair style I was looking for! I was so pleased with the outcome, her skillfulness, and the high quality natural haircare products that I was enthused to purchase products (made in Italy) she used on my hair. Next Day. I was surprised to get a response from her that not only was my appointment not going to be honored, she was canceling ALL of my appointments with her because she's decided to only do color and extension appointments. There was no remorse or an attempt to ensure that my scheduled services were rescheduled. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Your appointments are unlikely to be honored and are likely to be cancelled. You deserve better than the lack of professionalism and cancelled appointments you're likely to encounter.

The curls were non-existent as soon as I stepped out the salon even though she sprayed hair spray per my request. I didn't even really see the results until I saw it in my reflection in a window when I left. It looks like a blow out or how my hair might look if I leave it straight for a whole month. It is ridiculously dull looking. It feels like I have a whole head of fly aways. My grdauation is tomorrow, so this was *perfect* timing. I wouldn't be surprised if it's heat damaged (it wasn't thankfully, though I had to advocate for myself to have her put in heat protectant. She was a bit annoyed since she said she has a lot of exerience, but she did do it). Luckily, I was able to get it touched up by my sister. She commented that it didn't look like she straightened the roots in the back. If you happen to only see the reviews of your stylist while you're sitting in the chair like I did, I recommend making sure that you can see what they are doing - don't let them have you turned away from the mirror for long. And you might want to deep condition before straightening.
