I have fine, straight hair and went in for a trim. Just a simple cut with a trim to my face framing pieces and that's it. To start, my stylist couldn't figure out how to part my hair down the middle and had me do it. A little concerning since it's probably the easiest part line to find, but I figured not a big deal, some people are picky with their parts. Then she finished the haircut and one side was noticeably at least 2 inches longer than the other and I pointed it out to her. She touched it up slightly and then when I got home I realized the back of my head is still 1+ inch shorter than the front, the left side of my hair is still over an inch longer than the right, and my face framing layers are fully chopped in straight lines. I didn't notice how bad it was since she did a blowout on my hair in the salon, but it's now so noticeable that I even had my friends notice it before I said anything. Really disappointed in this service for $95! Nothing about the salon constitutes charging that price for a haircut with an inexperienced stylist. You aren't offered water/tea, the decor is outdated and it is basically a Great Clips that charges luxe salon prices. Now I will need to find somewhere else to fix this haircut. Disappointing when all I went in for was a simple haircut! The total service was 30 minutes so I'm really struggling to understand how they can charge $95 for this. read more

Grace is the only stylist I will ever let touch my hair! Ive been going to her now for over a year and she delivers above and beyond on any idea I bring to her. I sent her a photo of this pink hair and since the salon didn't carry something like this, she went out and found the perfect match. She recognized that I had a wavy hair pattern and started me on my healthy wavy curly hair journey and went out of her way to teach me the basics to styling it. She even educated me on how some bleaches damage curls more than others and that's why I thought I grew out of my wavy hair as a kid. She's the type of stylist to put the health of your hair first and let you know all the best practices. Even more, she is one of the sweetest people to talk to. I went to see Gina at Blondie's for a balayage after seeing her work on the Blondie's Instagram page. I emailed Blondie's two weeks ahead of my appointment with the photo and my current hair to confirm they'd be able to do this service, considering I'm not exactly "blonde" but want to get closer to it. When I arrived, I showed her my inspiration photo and she told me she'd be happy to do it. Instead of giving me a balayage, without consulting me, she gave me highlights halfway down my head. In the inspiration photo, there was a subtle transition from dark brown to a caramel color at the ends, which my hair looks NOTHING like. I called a couple of days later- as I am not used to complaining about a service I've received- to see if they would be willing to have me come in for a color correction. The man at the front desk put me on the phone with Gina, where she proceeded to argue with me about the service. After hanging up, she was apparently given my phone number. She texted me photos of my hair and argued with me, letting me know that I was never going to be able to get close to my inspiration photo in the first place. I would have been fine with pivoting my plans based on what service she was able to provide, but she never asked any questions, told me she wasn't doing balayage, etc. After a $520 service, plus a $100 tip (I was asked to tip the person who washed my hair as well, putting me out $650 for a cut and color), no one ever offered to color correct free of charge. Instead, I received some of the most unprofessional service I've ever been subject to. I'm not sure how this place has such good reviews!! Would not recommend to a friend-or anyone. read more

Racist Encounter at Blondie Hair Salon I had an appointment at Blondie Hair Salon, and my experience was both offensive and unacceptable. When I arrived, the owner of the salon, an Asian man, walked in, took one look at me, and told the receptionist he could not do my hair. No explanation was given. The receptionist then informed me that I would only receive a consultation instead of the full service I had booked. To make matters worse, they wanted me to do the consultation with the only woman of color in the salon, which felt even more racially motivated. This experience was unprofessional, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable--especially coming from the owner of the salon. I came to Blondie's after a mishap with my former stylist. My hair is naturally dark brown, and I have been getting it colored with ashy blonde highlights for nearly two decades. My last stylist stripped my hair of its brown low lights, the highlights were nowhere near ashy, it was just a mess. I love the balayage/lived-in look, but because my hair is so dark, I need foils rather than balayage to lift it. This is something I always have to explain to stylists and they typically tell me I'm wrong, proceed to do it anyway, and then I hate it. Not Linh! I showed him a picture of exactly what I was looking for, and he immediately said "okay, we're going to need to do foils, not balayage, because of your hair type and then will do a root smudge." I could have cried. I didn't even have to tell him and he knew; he's simply an expert who speaks the language of hair. Linh was able to restore the ashy blonde highlights AND my natural brown lowlights, which helps so much with dimension and looking more natural. I just got back from getting my roots touched up back to blonde. Linh was my colorist. The saddest part is that I don't live here. I would literally (and might have to) fly back to DC just for him to color my hair. It is the best color blonde I've ever had in all my hair coloring life (20 years) I am in awe and wanted to cry in the chair with gratitude because no stylist has been able to get to this color. I'm so grateful I found Blondie's, and especially Gina! She is amazing and I leave the salon smiling every single time. I found Gina on Blondie's Instagram, and requested an appointment with her specifically since I was impressed with her work doing blonde highlights + balayage. When I came in, Gina was extremely realistic with me after showing her inspiration pictures that she would get me as close as possible to them. However, it might take a few appointments since I was going from a warm, dark brunette hair color to an aspiring cool blonde. I accepted that, and after she was done, I remember thinking to myself "If this is how my hair looks now, I can't wait to see how it looks after I keep coming back!" I am temporarily in the DC area and was looking for a blonde specialist to do a root retouch for me. Typically with my usual stylist I achieve this in one session (bleach my roots and then add a small shadow back-all one blonde with a root tap). I explained that I did not want my hair to look highlighted as the line does not grow out well and I didn't want dimension in my lengths and I was told the technique she would use would create an even blend. I ended up with a head of very fine highlights that were quite stripey on top and my roots still completely dark (actually ended up looking much darker than before from the toner). I also only wanted a trim and left the salon somehow with bangs which I didn't realize until coming home and styling my hair myself. I kindly reached out next morning to the stylist to see if I could come back to have my hair fixed and what I didn't like and what I was looking for. She told me it would take 2-3 sessions of highlights to do a root retouch and that she could not lighten all my roots in one session, which she should've mentioned prior to doing my hair. She did finally offer to do some more highlights on top (which again is not what I want). However she seemed rather upset/defensive at me asking so I did not feel comfortable returning for another service, especially since she stated she would not be able to lighten my roots in a single session (which I've been doing for years). After spending 3x what I normally pay to get my hair done (450 before tip) I will have to go another salon and spend more to try to get my hair fixed. After being blown out and photographed with a ring light it looked ok (as far as blend-roots looked the same) until getting home and seeing it in natural lighting. I did not see my hair until at the end of the service after it had been dried and photographed. I have had several people at work comment on it being streaky and unblended. I showed a picture of what I wanted and was recommended to book the service as a full highlight as opposed to a balayage or other option. Maybe there was a lack of communication. I would've been happy to come back to get it fixed to what I was wanting if I didn't feel uncomfortable by the stylist response to my request. I'm not sure if she intended to come across as such and I like to give benefit of the doubt, but again, I felt her reaction was defensive and upset instead of wanting to make me a happy customer or help me. I also feel uncomfortable asking for a partial refund but overall for the price I am very unhappy with how my hair turned out. Even if it had not been so expensive I still have to go get my hair redone as it's not at all what I wanted. read more

My hair was two completely different shades at the top and bottom because the previous person I used to go to didn't blend my hair right. I started going back to this salon after I learned Kristin had left. Gina did a really good job on my highlights and cuts when I was seeing her. I've since changed my hairstyle to one that involves an undercut and she is not comfortable with that, so I have switched to a female barber and I have quit highlighting my hair. I miss going to Gina! She is fun and listens to you and does a great job with highlights. When I get the itch to be a blonde again Im sure I will be back. What a terrible experience from a mean, cynical bunch. The website says $250, I was charge $300 for slow subpar service from someone very unsure of themselves. Grace. She was supposed to do highlights and a cut but after showing her what I wanted she announced I wasn't happy with her and had someone else cut my hair. I had high hopes for this place after reading the reviews, but honestly I was really underwhelmed and left really disappointed. I arrived 10 minutes early (like the email notification asked me to) and my stylist wasn't even there yet. No one offered me something to drink like the other reviews mentioned. My stylist arrived 15 minutes after my appointment time was supposed to start and then told me we didn't have time to do what I wanted to do that day (despite the fact that I had booked 3 different appointment slots for consultation, color, and women's haircut). I showed her a photo of what I wanted, but what she did (painted highlights) look nothing like the photo I showed her - she really went overboard on the highlights basically making me blonde, which I really didn't want. Not only that, but the cut was totally uneven - when I washed my hair the next day I found several MUCH longer chunks she left. I'm really shocked at how unskilled she was. read more

I was hoping I would not have to write this review but unfortunately the owner/manager has not done anything to rectify this issue. I saw Grace for a partial highlight. I took in information from my previous stylist on colour and type of foils I have. Grace initially looked at the information and dismissed it saying she knew best and I should trust her. I did and that was a mistake. I was very clear that I did not want a very light blonde nor a block colour but highlights that included a lowlight so the regrowth was not so obvious. I got exactly what I said I did not want. A very light blonde that was not a great colour - think bleached blonde look and foils so fine it looked like I had an all over colour. I was very disappointed as it was not a good look. I told Grace I was not happy and her suggestion was to redo the colour. I declined as I had just had colour all over and my hair did not feel good - I did not want to do more damage to it. Grace texted me that night and said she had spoken to the owner and manager and they would contact me the next day to work out how to fix it. 4 days later no one had contacted me. I contacted them but when they returned my call I was in a meeting. The manager undertook to call me back the next day - that was a week ago. I won't contact them again. The manager and owner clearly are not interested in fixing this issue and I no longer trust them to fix it. Another issue is that of customer consent. Grace insisted on photographing my hair for a before/after. I did not want to but Grace was quite aggressive in insisting she take the photos. Eventually I agreed, as long as my face was not visible, as I figured post COVID that she probably needed to advertise and get more business. Grace did not ask to take an 'after' photograph - that would not have been good advertising. I do not recommend this hair studio based on the bad colour I left with and the lack of response from management. Definitely not worth the stress nor the $295. read more

PLEASE READ. I'm posting to warn people about a specific hair stylist, LINH. He completely destroyed my hair and shattered my self confidence. I showed him clear photos of a simple trim. That's it's. Half an inch to one inch max is what I asked with below chin, long, face framing layers. I was given a horrendous cut that was completely uneven throughout AND with uneven BANGS above my eyes which I never once asked for. This wasn't even close to the photo or description I provided. He took off at least 3-4 inches and it was all done in a blink. I tried to stop him, but he kept going so fast with the scissors straight towards the top of my head. He wasn't paying attention or listening to me at all. He openly admitted he cut too much, but it was too late. I don't even know how to fix this cut, because he thinned my hair and chopped the face layers so short into completely uneven, unblended bangs at my eyeballs. I will never mentally recover from the trauma Linh caused me. I am absolutely devastated. He was so distracted, rushed and unprofessional. I sincerely would never wish this experience on anyone. Linh should be ashamed. I would have been better off blind folding myself and taking scissors to my own hair. I know there's good stylists here, but I wont ever trust this salon again, because of what Linh put me through. read more

I have thicker curly hair and I prefer to have it cut when it's wet and it's hard to find someone who can do that! Other stylists want to straighten my hair first or do the deva cut and I don't like either! So I drive about an hour out of my way to go to Blondie's to get it cut with Kia. She always does a great cut and gets it the exact length I desire. I haven't had any super remarkable haircut experiences in DC, and the guy I used to go to moved back to his country. So my options were to cut my own hair (nope), cut my hair when I fly back home (inconvenient), leave the split ends (ha), or hop around with fingers crossed. I first tried out Blondie's through Groupon and had a wonderful experience with Gina M. She is kind, patient, open to talk to, and wasn't rushing me in the chair. After that excellent cut, I decided to go back again this week and I was very satisfied, so this might be my new go-to. I can't say enough good things about Ellen Geneva Fishman at Blondie's. My hair has always challenged hair stylists - to the point hat it became stressful to get my hair cut. Geneva figured out my hair on the first visit and her cuts have been amazing. They grow out beautifully and last longer than any past haircuts I've had. She also really listens to what you want and offers great ideas. For example, I have curly hair but also like to wear my hair straight at times. In the past hair stylists have told me it's too hard to have a cut that can accommodate both. Geneva's cuts allow me to wear it both ways. Cutting curly hair can be challenging - Geneva understands curly hair. I've referred friends to Geneva and they all raved about her cuts. Plus, she's a super nice person! read more

Grace is extremely professional and it's clear she takes a lot of pride in her work. She takes the time to explain my options, her recommendations, and asks plenty of questions along the way so that the final result always matches what I intended. As a blonde who wants to keep my highlights 'natural', it's definitely a risk to see a new hairstylist- but making that first appointment with Grace was the best decision I could have made. She is also so honest, which I think is an incredible trait for a stylist -- there have been multiple times where she has recommended that I go with a less expensive option rather than a more expensive option for one of my treatments (Brazilian blowout) because she doesn't think my hair needs the full expensive version. I was incredibly excited to have an appointment here and I left quite let down. Customer service is great! Aaron was my stylist and he was incredibly friendly and actually talked to me. The last hair salon experience I had I felt incredibly belittled so from the short time I spoke with Aaron, I felt very comfortable and welcome. I showed him the first picture attached, it's an ashy toned hair color with cool toned ashy highlights. I believe my hair is too warm toned for this hair style but I do like the highlight tone he put into my hair. However, the streaky highlights I do not like. I didn't notice them in the salon when I was done, but I noticed them once I was home. my heart sank, I was incredibly excited and I spent quite a lot of money to get this done. It looks like he forgot to do a root smudge so I definitely will be going in with some overtone to try and correct it. This is no shame to Aaron! He was incredibly nice.
