My heat pump was freezing up just as the temperatures were and I needed it fixed fast. Call these guys at 9 a.m. and a representative was at my house before noon. I had an estimate in my hand the next day, and a new heat pump the day after that. Everyone I dealt with was professional, courteous, and clearly knew what they were doing. I've had a couple of experiences with Reliable. After a false start with another company I called Reliable based on a neighbor's recommendation. I had Matt by for routine maintenance on my 2 heat pump systems and the Carl to run a gas line to my new range. Both techs exhibited great customer service skills and did their job well. Carl was outstanding and went the extra mile to get my installation done correctly and expeditiously. He was able to do a job that another company gave up on after 5 hours of effort. Saturday morning, as my husband and I were cleaning the house in anticipation of four friends coming to stay the weekend with us, our downstairs air conditioning unit stopped working. It shut off and wouldn't turn back on again. We called Nest and they helped us figure out that there was no power getting to the thermostat--either on purpose or there was a fuse blown somewhere. So there we were, expecting company in a mere couple of hours, with no air conditioning. On a 90-degree Saturday. A holiday weekend. Hooray. I called the company who had installed our units, but nobody answered. Then I did a quick Yelp search but nobody had rated any HVAC companies, so I turned to Google Maps instead. Several people had rated Reliable Heating & Air Conditioning well on there, so we decided to give it a shot. We called, an answering service took our information, and a few minutes later a guy named Eddie called and said he could be there in 20 minutes. There was an after-hours charge, but we knew there would be and it wasn't outrageous so we told him to come on over. He showed up about 20 minutes later and went down into the basement to see what was up. He quickly realized that what we thought was an unrelated issue--water filling up the overflow pan under the pump--was actually what caused the unit to shut off. The lines were filled with gunk so the pump wasn't working correctly, and when the water got high enough the unit shut itself off for safety reasons. He cleaned out the lines, took the pump apart and cleaned it, sucked up all the water in the pan and then put everything back together again. In less than an hour he had our air conditioning back on and told us how to make sure that didn't happen again. (The unit is less than a year old but apparently this is a very common issue.) Eddie was polite, quick and knew all about the Nest--we had taken it all apart when we thought it was the issue, and he put it all back together without batting an eye. Although Reliable isn't the company who installed our HVACs, they're definitely going to get our business going forward. read more

We had an issue with our air not running properly, and the unit freezing up. Since We weren't pleased with the last company we used, my husband decided to call Reliable heating and air. It was a Saturday morning and I was expecting to pay the after hours price, however I wasn't expecting it to be so great of a deal! Very pleased, plus Larry told us the service call price up front. Once Larry arrived at our house ( about an hour after us calling him...he had one client ahead of us) he addressed the issue quickly, very friendly. I've dealt with reliable twice. The first time I was way overcharged. I was out of town and my wife and baby were home and the heat went out. They charged me over 500$ to replace a heat strip. (A 70$ part that literally takes 2 minutes to plug in.) Since then I moved to California and rented my house out. The AC went out last summer and my tenants were very uncomfortable. Reliable was the only company that could make it out quickly considering they are minutes down the street. I was told that I have a very old hvac and the part that needs replacing cannot be found anymore. They recommended replacing the unit which would cost over 4000$ I decided to have a second opinion by my property managers hvac guy. He told me he could get the original part for 600$ and install for 200$ or I could get an aftermarket part for 300$ installed for 200$. It has been 6 months now and the hvac is working fine. I feel like reliable was taking advantage of the fact that I live all the way in California and I couldn't be there to verify the things they were saying. The guy that fixed my AC told me that he use to be an employee of reliable and this was common practice there and this is one of the reasons he left the company. Just be aware. Have a second opinion. Even if you are freezing or burning up. It could save you thousands. read more

Excellent company. "Reliable" in all ways. Dan R was polite, came within a short time of being called for fan motor that had stopped working. The part on this old machine had to be ordered, but he was here as promised by Mon. AM and called to say he was on his way. I'm new to heat pumps, but he politely answered my questions. Will be looking to replace the whole unit in a few months before the compressor gives out! I will certainly use Reliable again. read more

Coldest day of the year, I am home sick and the heater conks out. Hubby comes home flips all the breakers, nothing. Called Home Depot where we bought the system and the girl tells me it could be 2 -3 days. Seriously? It's 17 outside. Call Reliable and they say they can have someone out in 2-3 hours. About 1/2 hour later serviceman Chris calls. Comes out, resets a breaker we didn't know about, tightens connections, heat again. About 2 hours later, heat is off again. Call, Chris comes back in record time. Replaces breakers, waits to make sure heat is running correctly, checks the outside unit to make sure he hasn't missed anything. Everything is great. The kicker?? About 2 hours later, Chris calls because he has just done a job nearby and before he leaves the area he wanted to make sure we were still okay. Great Customer Service. I purchased this unit and had it installed from Reliable Heating and Air Conditioning in Chattanooga, TN. The installer is certified by Maytag as the installer for the area. It has been 15 months since the install. The HVAC Company has been out 9 times to fix the system and have gone as far as to replace the outside unit. At this moment I have no heat unless I run on Auxiliary. My power bill (I have copies of the last 24 months of bills) has not changed since installation. read more

Reliable serviced my 5yr old upstairs unit in August. The coils were leaking and needed replaced for $1,700. The parts were on backorder, so Reliable recharged the unit at a discount. The unit was blowing very cold air on the recharge. However, after Reliable replaced the coils, the unit would only blow 'cool' air (not cold) and ran noticeably louder. The unit had no trouble keeping up with the August heat before the service call and could not keep up with the afternoon heat after the service call. I called Reliable within the 30 day warranty window, they determined the compressor that was working great before the repair needed to be replaced for an additional $1700 ($3,400 total). They argue that the strain on the compressor from freezing up in the past damaged it, even though it showed no signs of damage before the service call. I contend that the unit was not left in good working order after the service call and that the compressor working before the service call was not working properly after. Reliable adamantly denies (see BBB) that their service call had anything to do with the compressor failure. I believe it is far to big a coincidence that it happened at the exact time of the service call. Reliable left me without working air after a $1700 repair and wanted $1700 more to make it work (I ultimately went with another company who even did the repair for less) . My experience is that Reliable will not stand behind the entire scope of their work, leaving this customer very unsatisfied. If you are in the market for Heating/Air service, please let my disappointing experience with Reliable encourage you to choose a more reputable company that places a premium on customer satisfaction. read more

They also made a low cost suggestion to improve the efficiency and life of the system that serviced our main floor.
