That did not excuse the work or the misdiagnosis, which is why this is not a solid 5 star review. He offered to refund the detailed inspection charge to satisfy me and I agreed. He told me that he would send me a check I asked if he had the address he said yes. I really thought I could give him a positive follow-up for making things right and here we are a month later and I have received the check. He also refunded the charge for what they did fix as part of a good faith gesture which I appreciate very much. The reasons for changing the review to 4 stars are clearly about the integrity of Aaron the owner of Anchor Plumbing. First, not to go into personal details, he shared the reasons he was not available to his team during the repair visit. Upon inspectioning my water heater it turned out there were some small leaks on the top and the bottom of the tank and it needed to be replaced. Also the city codes have changed over the years and so they needed to bring some thing up to spec. Because it was an electric WH, they didn't have one in the van. Chris the technician ordered the replacement, and brought it 2 days later with an assistant; they installed it, with the updated code specific changes in about 1.5 hours. The only reason for the 4 out of 5 star stars was the cost. I thought they could have done a little better on the cost. It was rather on the higher side, $1460. Everyone I spoke to said it was high. No holiday discount, no Yelp discount, no Angie's list discount, no first time new customer discount. When you price out the unit at Home Depot or Lowe's it still seems like you can higher someone at $300 and it would still have cost less.

However, he was clearly extremely thoughtful in his troubleshooting approach and knowledgeable about not only plumbing but overall house construction. It's a powerful combination to have because he knows the end-to-end and understands how it all fits together, so he can advise even on things like how to lay a foundation optimally. He also walked around with me a little bit and commented on some other improvements that he would do if it were his house. These were things that he did not stand to make any money off of recommending to me but was simply advising as best practices, including some that would keep my kids safer, prevent water heater leaks, and give me a creative workaround to an issue I'm having with my shut off valve. So that guy is great and, since it's his company, I assume a solid reflection of the type of knowledge and experience he expects of and instills in the people he hires. I also see there are some reviews on here where people had issues with scheduling or other things, which obviously are important. But at the end of the day, I would rather have some scheduling issues but get a great person out than have somebody with less experience who is easier to schedule with. That's not to say that I think they have a habitual problem with this, just that I think it's important to prioritize what really counts. I think there are few people who are more knowledgeable than Stagg and would definitely recommend them, especially if you have something that's tougher to figure out.
