As you age you lose hormones as a woman and hair removal services are your best friend unless you want to turn into a man. I went for a Brazilian this past weekend with Tausha and she was friendly and knowledgeable about waxing and aftercare. Waxing is a challenge and unless you get into some serious yoga positions, you can sometimes miss cracks and crevices during the service. I spoke to one of the receptionists who kindly slid me in this evening to correct this. Starsha was so warm, welcoming and a wealth of knowledge on waxing. I felt so comfortable on her table. I didn't realize it was the same place as my first bad experience, so I decided to give them another chance. I got both a pedi and a mani, and neither service was acceptable. The first technician who started my pedicure cut my big toenail unevenly. When I pointed it out, he said he would "file it down" to fix it, but filing it only made the nail crooked. Already frustrated, I asked for someone else. June stepped in... while she was kind and gave a great foot massage, she also did not correct the issue. After realizing neither technician could fix the mistake, I ended up filing it myself. Then came the manicure. An older lady, who was the only person not wearing a mask, began doing my nails. I immediately noticed smudges and polish all over my skin. When I pointed it out, she grabbed the acetone and (supposedly accidentally) squirted it in my face. This was honestly the part that upset me the most. While she shaped my nails pretty decent, the polish application was sloppy, and she even scratched my skin. She tried to file my other hand, but I declined because I was already marked up from the first. After all of this, no one offered a genuine apology -- and they still had the nerve to ask for a tip. This was my first time sugaring and it was better than I expected. Since I haven't waxed in awhile, I was pretty embarrassed. But Viktoria made me feel comfortable. This isn't a typical salon, but she keeps it clean. This is not a typical spa experience, and the location wasn't what I was expecting. Sugarland is more like going over to your girlfriend's house for some grooming help. I saw her changing her gloves when she needed to get more from the jar, so that was reassuring in terms of cleanliness. While I was changing, she already started removing the disposable liner and spraying down the table already. I was actually surprised at the smoothness of my skin afterwards. I guess I'm hooked on sugaring. It's more than I'd like to pay compared to regular waxing (eg. $50).... But I think sugaring is better for my skin.
