I am a platinum member with Marriott hotels, Diamond with Hilton, and global list with Hyatt! I will say upon my arrival last night the room was disgusting! Pubic hair in and around the toilet dried up toilet paper stuck in the toilet toilet paper that looks like a cat played with! This is totally unacceptable they moved me to another room which was very hot and humid with crumbs all over the floor! By that point I just told them I am checking out and leaving and continued on to Boston! I do not recommend this hotel to anybody and a little thing that was also irritating was they have no valet! But yet they charge you for parking down the street but no valet? This hotel is ridiculous stay the hell away! The only reason why I gave it one star is because I had no other options. read more

We are locals and enjoyed staying at The Renaissance Albany after attending The Albany Center Galleries' Pop Gala. The Renaissance Albany is located in a historic building shell with extremely contemporary interior design. Stunning modern twists on old famous paintings are found on each floor. We didn't have time to see them all but want to on our next stay. The rooms have really cool mood lighting which can be changed from normal, to blue or purple. Almost everything in the room is white so when you change the lighting the color of everything changes with it. The beds are super comfortable. We stayed in a king suite which was spacious and beautiful with views of downtown. Minor mishap; we were given two conditioners and no shampoo so we had to call the front desk for a shampoo. We also called for a wine opener and glasses to enjoy some wine in the room we brought with us. The front desk helped with both requests quickly. We ordered room service for lunch and brunch and both were very good although the Eggs Benedict was overcooked. Overall we were thrilled with our stay.. A few minor things for the hotel management to smooth out in order for them to reach perfection, but we are very much looking forward to visiting again soon! read more

It isn't often that one gets to try a hotel in their neighborhood. A vicious rain storm, an errant leaf, and an overflowing roof sent us out of our house for about a week and I got to choose the hotel. I wanted to try the new hip spot in Albany, but I maybe didn't think it through. I was coming with an active toddler and this was just not the right place for us. The mod wall decor is not for touching. The rooms don't have tubs. The room was well planned out but very small- no place to play trains on the floor. The staff was all helpful but the phones were either broken or constantly busy. Parking ($22) and room service (24 for my grilled shrimp salad) felt a bit like extortion. This was my fault- this hotel is for the hip business traveler and not the young families. We switched to the Hilton and didn't look back. Points for Wellington's breakfast, and for the helpfulness of staff when I could reach them! read more

Pros: - I'd venture to call this the nicest hotel in Albany (not saying much) - Safe neighborhood - Updated decor - Huge rooms with the ability to swivel the TV so if someone is sleeping you can watch it in the "living room" portion of the room - Nice bathrooms Cons: - Came back from a long day out only to find our room had inexplicably not been serviced that day. We had to call and have someone clean the room while we were trying to relax. We never put a "do not disturb" sign on the door, so no excuse for not having a clean room. - Front desk staff unhelpful across the board. When I called prior to our visit to inquire about parking, it was like pulling teeth trying to obtain any details from them. Attitudes from the rest of the front desk staff we encountered during our stay ranged from disinterested in helping/informing at best to downright snooty at worst. - Went to the restaurant for breakfast. There was something offputting about my fruit smoothie, and my husband was not impressed with his omelette. Yogurt parfait was good, albeit pretty standard. Would likely stay here again because there are limited options for nicer hotels in safe areas within Albany, but the staff definitely needs some improvement, or at least training. read more

Just returned home after two nights in Albany for business meetings. It is official....I'm never going back to the Albany Hilton again! From the moment you walk in the lobby area is beautiful with its wood paneling, marble floors and eclectic seating areas. The staff is extremely nice and proud of the hotel. After checking in I was provided a tour which was quite helpful particularly since I had to walk to one of the venues which is connected. Another plus since I didn't have to walk outside! The food at the restaurant was delicious and the bathroom products divine!!!!! My room was on the top floor looking directly up State Street. The view of the Capitol was breathtaking. The decor is modern, fully functional and extremely comfortable. The only thing that would be nice is if the mattress was a pillow top but I did sleep comfortably. Although I'm a platinum Hilton member and only Gold at Marriott, all of my Albany stays moving forward will be at the Renaissance! read more

I've stayed here a few times, as have colleagues from my company and other associates. It's decent, but mostly for the location. However, my most recent trip has convinced me never to book here again. Due to illness, I was forced to cancel my trip with less than 24 hours notice. After several unhelpful and unsympathetic conversations with front desk managers Jason and Kaitlin, during which they occasionally claimed that their refusal to cancel the reservation without penalty was the policy of Orbitz (false) rather than the hotel, I left messages for Jonathan, the Assistant GM, who has yet to return my call. This is no way to treat a frequent guest with a legitimate, unexpected reason for cancelling at the last minute. NOTE TO BUSINESS TRAVELERS: THIS HOTEL'S CANCELLATION POLICY IS TERRIBLE, AND ITS STAFF IS HIGHLY UNSYMPATHETIC AND UNPROFESSIONAL. Albany has several excellent, reasonably priced hotel options in the area--do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. If the cancellation policy doesn't get you, some other lapse in professionalism or courtesy surely will. read more

We stayed at the Renaissance Albany for an event at the connected event venue, the Albany Capital Center. The hotel room was lovely - the bed was very comfortable, the room was spotless, and the shower was superior to most other hotel showers. We ordered room service before our event and were pleasantly surprised. The food (a burger and the ricotta gnocchi) was delicious and service was prompt. We ordered our food on the room phone and it was delivered quickly. Parking did cost extra - but it was clearly noted on the Hotel website so we expected it. I would absolutely recommend the Renaissance Albany to anyone staying in the area, especially for an event at the Capital Center. read more

We stayed here one night while out looking at fall foliage. We are Marriott Bonvoy members and expect a certain level of class that we certainly didn't receive at this hotel. This is a beautiful hotel and parking is very inexpensive for only seven dollars overnight. However, the room was not very clean. It may not have been rented out since the pandemic started so a little dust I didn't mind. However when I find someone's torn off toenail on the floor and hair balled up in the corners I think the room is of course not very clean. I called down to the front desk to let them know that would still stay in the room because we were too tired to move and it was really more light surface area stuff than anything else. The next morning I went down to tell the receptionist at the front desk that they need to pay more attention and her attitude Couldn't have given less a shit about anything. She told me, "oh I would've picked up anyone's toenail." And I looked at her and I said, "I work in healthcare. I can wash my hands when I get done with things." She simply looked at me and said management is aware and will add more points to your account. So, if you're looking for someone who actually gives a shit about any of your concerns or complaints this is certainly not the hotel to stay at read more

RA Hotel's rooms are large and roomy, with comfy beds and contemporary furnishings, all of which would normally be sufficient for a decent hotel stay. Surprisingly, there were no curtains or shades that blocked the morning light . . . which was why I woke up feeling not quite so well rested. read more

This hotel is beautiful! The former DeWitt Clinton. I had attended events in the old ballroom in the past and was pleasantly surprised at the renovations. My room was nicely decorated in a modern contemporary style with a separate sitting area and a very large bathroom. A little pricey and they charge for parking in the attached parking garage , but worth it . Wellington's restaurant and bar downstairs are fab as well. read more

My only reason for not awarding 5 stars is because the gym, while well equipped, uses machines that are a bit janky, the TVs on the machines don't work properly, and the remote provided for the main TV doesn't work. Stayed here for a wedding nearby the hotel. The hotel is very nice. The decor is modern and trendy, the staff were attentive and friendly. The room is specious and the bed was especially comfortable. I was very impressed by how comfortable the room was. Filtered water fountains in the lobby along with a restaurant and bar. There is a spa attached to the hotel but did not have time to check it out. Downside is that parking is NOT free. It's actually $22 a night with no in and out privileges which is really kinda pricey. But, overall comfortable and enjoyable stay! read more

Warning! Do not get here early. The lobby is a sea of suitcases, the lone receptionist tells me (at 1:00) to come back at 3, but at 4:00 there are no rooms ready! "I'm sorry sir, many people have late check-outs, and you've never been here before, you have no status." Guess what, there are many other places that treat customers properly no matter what your "status". Rooms are nice enough for a business traveller, but honestly, not a single room available at 4:00? This is a 4 star with 5 star quality because of the remodel and also quality of the food is better than most. I'm giving this one a 5 because everyone was very nice and accommodating and it goes a long way. Made work travel worthwhile. The cleanliness of the Showroom alone is enough to make you smile. All they need is a personal bar to go along with the ambiance of the room. I will be back here every time I'm in Albany. read more

When you walk into the hotel, it is quite impressive, especially during the holiday season since it is adorned with elegant decorations. The staff member at the desk when we were checking in was extremely friendly and accommodating describing places to go to on a Friday night besides Wellington's which is connected to the hotel and is superb. After teaching all day and then driving from Brooklyn to Albany, we decided to order room service and it was served promptly, hot, and delicious. It is extremely convenient also to wake up and get breakfast at Wellington's as well and the food was awesome. The omelette was fantastic and the service was excellent. The hotel room itself was gorgeous and very modern. I loved the the comfortable bed, sheets, and pillows and truly had one of the best night's sleep in a long time. The hotel provides Aveda products in the bathroom in case you forgot your toiletries, as I did. The shower had great water pressure and it was a fantastic shower to wash off the day's tiredness and it woke me up in the morning in a fantastic way. The couch in the room was comfortable to lounge on and work on my laptop and the tv was awesome. I love that you are able to access your Hulu, Pandora, and Netflix account to listen to music or watch your favorite movies and shows. The valet attendants retrieve your car very quickly and are very friendly. Overall, this hotel is beautiful and you should definitely treat yourself by staying here when you are in Albany. read more

Stay away from the hotel at all costs. Another review (who for some reason still gave the hotel five stars) said it best: "Dreadful Staff." Said review was right: the inside looks great, it's well renovated, modern, and chic. But much like your mother always told you: what counts is on the inside. And the inside here--the staff--is atrocious. The rooms at the Hilton next door may not look great, but the staff there made it feel like a castle in comparison. I normally don't need much interaction with staff at hotels, and yet they found a way to make me have repeated and horrible interactions. I'll start with the most recent event first: I wrote a three-page letter detailing numerous problems I had with the front desk (for the titillating details, read below) to Marriott Guest Services who dutifully forwarded the letter to the hotel. I get an e-mail the next day from an Executive Assistant asking me how she could help me with my "billing inquiry." I guess that is to be expected, though. They didn't care then, why would I think they might care now? Here are the bullet points on the problems with my stay, from the meaningful and troubling to the "well I'm already writing this long review, so why not?": - I ordered room service to be delivered at the 6:30-6:45am time slot. At 7 am I called the front desk to make sure that it received my order (because if not, we were going to just run over to Starbucks). She scoffed. She literally scoffed at me for daring to ask such a question. (I'll give her credit, she did in fact, post-scoff, check on the food.) - The credit ends there, though, because when I asked if there was any semblance of an ETA (because we had to be somewhere at 8am), she said "That's all the kitchen told me. Anything else?" - A couple of weeks before arriving, I called and they were supposed to merge two reservations (because of technical difficulties they couldn't change my room rate so we had to make it two reservations). They didn't. I showed up and asked that the gentleman at the front desk do it then. He said he couldn't. (Turns out, he could have.) He said to come back the next day. When I did, the front desk said she couldn't either. (Turns out, she could too.) After I said what the person the night before had told me, she admitted that she could but said that it would take her a little bit of time. And then looked at me. And kept looking at me. So I said that's totally find with me, and no rush and she could do it at her own leisure. (She didn't.) - On that same phone call we worked out an upgrade (because I tried to book an upgrade online for a rate offered in an e-mail but the website would do it only at a much higher rate). Given the trouble we had with the rate, I was told that the $5/night upgrade would be comped. It wasn't. And the gentleman checking me in had no idea what I was talking about. He offered, half-heartedly and after handing me my room key anyway, that he would check with his manager and get back to me. In a turn of events that should surprise no one, he did not. - Remember that room service story? It's not quite over. Turns out, that the food that arrived was about 1/2 of what we ordered (and a couple of things that we didn't). I spoke to the front desk about this on the way out, and they said that they would comp the charge. ($55 later, they didn't.) - When I checked in I asked for a quiet room (because we had a multi-day test in Albany). We were put in an adjoining room. The neighbors were NOT quiet. I know people who checked in later that same day, they were put in rooms that did not have adjoining rooms. Their rooms WERE quiet. - Speaking of quiet rooms, our refrigerator would not stop making weird noises. The first night I just unplugged it, but I asked the front desk if they could take a look. They said that they'd fix it or replace it. They did neither. And I heard nothing. - When my traveling buddy got to the airport and called for the shuttle, she was told "it isn't available." Cabs aren't very easy to get in this sans-Uber city, so she asked if there was any ETA. She was told, "Sorry, it's just not available." Not sure what the deal was with that, but I guess its a par for the course here. (Just as a point of comparison, when I stayed at a Sheraton a few weeks ago and their shuttle was substantially delayed, the hotel paid my cab far.) - The food at Wellington's as incredibly expensive and horrible. Completely bland. Lacked any dimension or flavor. Much like the hotel, it looks nice, but the insides were rotten. (Not literally rotten, figuratively rotten.) I'm sure I'm forgetting some problems, but you get the point: do not stay here. read more

Great hotel, comfy beds, creatively decor, helpful staff. Oh, there was one thing...there's a demon living in the air ducts, and he seems to have sleep apnea. I was a little concerned when I heard his heavy breathing coming in through the grate, but he seemed benevolent enough, so I thought nothing more of it. But it started to bother me a bit as I got in bed and tried falling asleep. Seriously, it sounded like Darth Vader was up there snoring through a broken nose. I did eventually fall asleep, lulled into slumber by the demon's death rattle. Overall, 4/5 stars. Next time I'll just bring ear plugs and some holy water. read more

Stayed here while in town for work. Loved the architecture and the design of the hotel. Modern and clean while still retaining a lot of the original charm. Got a room on the top floor and it was a very nice size suite. Only drawback that I experience at the hotel was no valet parking and the wifi wasn't the fastest. Other than that it's a great place to stay. read more

This is a lovely old "grand dame" of a hotel, lovingly restored. Front desk staff are nice but there were no porters - zero - when we checked in and when we checked out. However, there were two carts, which just barely worked for our party of eight. Rooms are older but that's nice when you have a big deep tub and a well-tuned shower. The televisions were gigantic, with great reception, and each bathroom was equipped with Aveda products - a really, really nice surprise, since they're so expensive. I don't know that I've ever even seen Aveda in a hotel before. Each floor smartly had a nice little seating area tucked into a corner, where normally there'd be nothing. And each floor had a microwave for general customer use. We would return here in a heartbeat! read more

New Year's Eve was supposed to be one of the biggest days any woman dreamed of. It was my moms wedding day and I was so excited. She was sold on one of the most extravagant places in Albany. However, that is until it got closer to the actual day. She has been planning this day for over a year and the last two months before it were a disaster. We worked with a sales event representative we will call K . As the day approached I realized Mom was just a number or sale to her. I felt everything she told her when She first started planning she said just to get her to book there. Many of our guests had a difficult time booking under the block and even had to call and email K numerous times just to get a reply. Also not to mention We were told by a front desk agent most brides are placed in the governs suite that day. However, Mom was placed in an average regular room where many of our guests had a larger room than her. Also the reservation was made for the wrong date when it was time to check in there was no reservation, because they put the wrong month! In result, Shr was charged for the room even though there was an agreement in the contract for it being a comp room. The day of the actual wedding if it wasn't for Fe, her right hand woman (who's name I forgot but was awesome) and the banquet staff (5 stars to all of them) I would've had an awful day. K came to my ceremony for 30 mins at most and LEFT! Didn't stay for the cocktail hour or reception!! I was highly disappointed in my choice of venues and if you're planning here just Avoid at all costs!!!! read more

Great night at the Renaissance Albany. My husband and I had tickets to a concert at the Times Union Center and decided to spend the night at this new hotel. Beautiful lobby with restored original turn of the century murals and painting amid sleek modern furnishings. Great bar and nice restaurant. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Had a wonderful nights sleep. Windows open! Luxurious linens on the bed and in the bathroom. Thanks to the assistant food and beverage manager, Bill Steidle, we even got a late night plate of brownies when the kitchen was closed as we were craving a little chocolate. Yum! We will definitely be back and highly recommend this hotel. read more

If you desire HORRIBLE CUSTOMER service then this is the place for you. When you come in you are impressed with the ambiance but if you have any concerns the buck stops there. The first hustle is that there is no parking available so I asked of parking which they provide both regular and valet. Regular parking $16.00 dollars per day valet parking the same $16.00 PER DAY, that was cute but in fact I liked that. Next we went to the rooms to discover no microwave in the room but the appearance was nice. I had 2 rooms and stayed there for several days. The third day I received a call from one of the other patrons saying the Loss prevention director claimed he had come to the room because they smelled smoke and was going to access a smoking charge of $250 to the room. WAIT A MINUTE. You are telling me someone said they smelled smoke inside of a building with over 12 stories and 30 rooms on each floor and they traced it back to the room and through their acute sense of smell. REALLY? In addition, I have to pay $250. I know I was one of few people of color staying at this Hotel but you can't be serious. Paying thousands of dollars for comfort is well worth it but you must receive superior service. Since I was not there when the accusation was made as soon as I reached the hotel I looked for the a manager but there one was not available at the moment. After waiting for several minutes, I asked how long would it take and they replied they were not sure. I left my name and number and asked it they would call me when someone becomes available . 30 minutes later someone called my room so I came back down stairs. Now the Loss prevention supervisor said to me, while preforming a routine inspection we notice 2 people exiting the stair case and walking back to the room at which they have the person placing an brown object into their pocket. Really? You came around the corner at the exact time they were exiting the staircase and was able to see them place an object in their pocket and enter a room which was approximately 3 feet away from the door. Then this person contacted the director of loss prevention who was a allegedly a former Albany NY PD officer and when he knocked on he door he said he saw a faint mist of smoke in the distance. You can not be serious. Is this guy profiling? How good is his eyes? Then he said and we have it all on camera. Ok wonderful. I was not there and the loss prevention supervisor was not there, so let me see the camera with them smoking and that will solve everything. ' Umm, I am not at liberty to show you the camera.' replied the supervisor. Let me get this straight, you can accuse someone of violating company policy but not provide the proof you say you have and yet charge me for something you can not prove. His response; 'I am sorry but that's company policy', he took my number and said someone will reach out to me which I knew was never going to happen. I politely said thank you and proceeded with my business. I called the next three days and got no response until 7:30pm, after 45 minutes of calling the hotel, then the main office, being transferred back to the hotel and still left a message for yet another manager. Great. Talking to the hotel manager, he said anything could happen without talking to the Loss prevention Director but he would have to side with his director because he made the claim and he will deal with he creditor when they call. So the decision is made based on retired persons opinion and no video proof to substantiate the claim. Thanks for your great customer service and I will recommend people not to go back especially if you do not want to be harrassed. i guess some place we are good enough to work but not good enough to reside. read more

Not exactly sure of the price since our stay was a gift, but this is a fairly modern looking hotel in downtown Albany. Very convenient parking, good location, clean rooms and just down the street from the bar with probably the best beer selection in the city. Overall a good stay! read more

Nice hotel.. we had an awesome corner room on the 6th floor. Very spacious. Not the best Renaissance we've ever stayed in, and a little disappointed that they didn't offer valet.. but overall very friendly service and a cool, contemporary vibe. Very central to everything downtown. Very clean and well updated and taken care of, in a historical building. I think this hotel has been renovated in october 2015, very nicely decorated !I booked this hotel cause my favorite hotel of all times the hilton downtown was booked up.My meeting cancelled so i decide to go back to NYC earlier .I called the front desk-Alexis the manager or supervisor so i could catch the train .I was waiting for almost 20 minutes to find out Alexis never called the cab so i missed my train and lost the money .I decided to confront lexis and she never apologised and blamed me on being overwhelmed by meetings and trainings .I explained that it was not all about her and that i am a customer after all .When you promise a service , you need to provide it.Satisfaction guaranteed . I had to deal with the rudest manager ever !!!I am calling the headquarters too tonight and also write a review on yelp Patti is the best .she arranged my second pick up taxi All I can say is that the customer service is the worst there read more
