So, we checked it out. The front part of the park has athletic fields and an indoor covered dome for kids' athletic events. We saw lots of kids going in for that. We walked to the back of the park and saw the trailhead. The trails could be more clearly blazed. There was a map, but it was hard to follow. Still, we really enjoyed how the trails followed along the headwaters of the Toms River, where it looks more like a creek. There are lots of picnic tables at picturesque bends of the river. It seems as if you might be able to camp there, too, as campsites were marked, but we don't know for sure. There's no fee to enter or use the facilities. It's a fairly nice park, but there are better ones. I would recommend Cattus Island Park first.

Once your time is up there's an enormous playground right next door. There is so much to see and do that you could easily spend hours here without getting bored. Overall this is a fantastic township recreation area. It's clean and well-maintained, and there are endless play options for kids.

The Challenger Place has finally finished and is a designed playground for kids who are blind or visually impaired. Their sport courts include tennis and basketball courts, as well as an in-line skating rink. The athletic field is available for rental and may be used for baseball games but not for practices. I have heard they have swimming pools but I personally did not see it. Instead, I saw a spray ground (water-enhanced playground) which was to open in mid-May but given our current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak, this is doubtful for mid-May 2020 due to the pandemic restrictions. Normally, it would open mid-May through early September. I would imagine the busiest time to be there with kids is during the height of summer because summer camps are held there by the Monmouth County Park System and Challenged Youth Sports from Middletown.

On certain nights of the week they have round robin and mixed doubles. If you're a beginner, my suggestion is to take some lessons and spend the bucks if you wanna get good. In the late fall the courts are covered with a bubble so you can play in the winter, then they are taken down around Memorial Day.

When I log into the member portal, I see a balance due with no explanation. I have requested callbacks through the portal and still have not received any response. To make matters worse, every time I go to the pool, I am stopped and told my account has been flagged and that I need to contact the front desk. It is embarrassing and has made both my daughter and me feel unwelcome. We simply wanted to make sure our account was paid correctly and avoid late fees, yet we have been treated as though we are the problem. I eventually had to cancel the debit card I had on file after it was charged for dues that I had already paid in advance. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend not keeping a debit card on file. This entire situation has felt incredibly frustrating and, at times, like a scam. The accounting department has failed to resolve a straightforward issue, and management has been completely unresponsive. I do want to say that I love the pool. The staff there has always been friendly, welcoming, and professional, and the facility is clean. My daughter loves spending time there, and we plan to continue using the pool each summer--but only without a payment card on file because I no longer trust the billing process. Unfortunately, I will not continue my gym membership because I have lost confidence in the accounting department's ability to bill members accurately or resolve problems when they occur. My hope is that someone in leadership reads this, contacts me, explains why this has been handled so poorly, removes the incorrect charges and account flag, and finally resolves my account.
