I owe this one to my wife and friends!! She regularly has a Friday lunch scheduled with two good friends and they went here a few weeks ago. They all loved it and I've learned to respect their opinions! We went for dinner on a Thursday night and why we had the entire place to ourselves is beyond me! I can only speculate it's the location as there are a few neighboring businesses that could be, shall I say, less than desirable neighbors. Don't let that stop you from going as I felt that the food was AMAZING!! Granted, it's the first time I've ever had Indonesian food, but had a good idea I'd like it and apparently some of you all think I have a good palate, thank you!! If you've never tried it, go in and ask the owner to walk you through the menu and I bet you too will walk away with a full stomach and some new knowledge. I'm a native T-towner and didn't have a clue that rengang is both a STYLE of cooking as well as a type of dish. We started with the Martabak Telur, which are deep-fried pancakes mixed with egg and green onion. It's served with a "chutney" of fresh vegetables and the combination was spectacular!! I'd eat those about every day if possible. My wife had previously tried the Beef Rendang, which she loved, so tonight went with the Beef Kalio Rendang and it too hit the mark as well. I went with the combination and selected Beef Rendang and Curry Chicken and was not disappointed!! The flavors are amazing!! I like spicy and both were one chili pepper on their heat scale. It seemed a little spicy at the start, but I was soon adding some of the peppers that come on the side. I plan to try something classified as two chili peppers next time as I believe that may be my sweet spot. They also make some very unique flavors of ice cream--durian??!! Apparently a love it/hate it and it has to be VERY unique but thank you, don't even want a taste (I guess that's bad???)! We did bring home a jackfruit and a mango but I'm too full to sample it tonight. Maybe they're packed at lunch? Possibly, as it's less expensive than dinner. I've certainly spent more for food that far inferior to what I experienced tonight. Maybe next time I'll remember to take the pics before digging in (if you look closely) but at least I remembered before it was too late this time!! read more

WOW!! What an incredible restaurant! The minute you walk in, it feels like you're transported to Indonesia. Met by smiling servers and a very skilled front-of-house who gives a detailed description of every page of the menu, favorites, spice levels and anything you could possibly want to know! Now, the food. I would 100% reccomend the A6 sampler. It felt authentic, yet not overwhelming. I was so impressed with the melody of flavors and tasted many things I had never tried before!! The most delicious meal I've had this year! I only get to visit Tulsa once or twice a year. This was my second visit to Rendang and Co. The food was so good last March when I dined here that I couldn't wait to go back. I finally got my chance last Thursday. I landed at Tulsa International, picked up my rental car and immediately drove here. Last time here I ordered Nasi Goreng (fried rice dish with vegetables and egg), and I wanted to try something different. I asked the host/waiter's advice. He asked about my familiarity with Indonesian cuisine, my tolerance for spiciness, and if I liked curry. After weighing all my answers, he suggested the Nasi Pandang, a truly fantastic Combination Plate. There are a lot of variables when you order this dish. It comes with both Beef and Chicken and there are three different ways each of those are prepared. I chose the Kaila Rendeng (chunks of beef in a luxuriously rich gravy) for my Beef choice and Ayam Goreng (mind-meltingly delicious Fried Chicken Leg) for my Chicken choice. The Nasi Pandang combo plate also comes with a delightful Vegetable Curry (mild, very little heat), composed of Jackfruit, Cabbage and Green Beans, and a generous mound of tender white rice. And the Vegetable Curry is topped with a hard boiled egg. It was my first time trying all of the above and I was absolutely blown away. It was easily the most delicious meal I've had this year, and I eat out at least once or twice a week. I loved the Vegetable Curry so much I could've ordered only that and I would have been super happy. But the item that deserves special mention is the Ayam Goreng, the Chicken Leg. Omg that leg! It looked slightly over-cooked but it most definitely wasn't. The leg was scored with a knife before frying, and the edges along those cuts were cooked to the point of chewiness. It's a chewiness you never want to stop. When you've picked that chicken leg clean your mind forces you to keep turning it over and over, insisting there must be some morsel you overlooked. I washed all this great food down with a Lychee Ice Tea. First time trying it. Damn that stuff is good! Highly recommended. After my epic meal I met the chef, Indri Bahar, and told her how much I loved her food. She graciously agreed to allow me to take some photos of her and her husband (the host and waiter) Asnul Bahar. 10/10 would recommend!! While driving down from Michigan to New Mexico, we were on the search for food. Not wanting fast food, an alternative was a good carry out place near the highway! We seamlessly placed an order online using their user-friendly website. It was ready to go upon arrival, utensils and napkins included. We ordered the Fried Noodles with chicken, and an egg on top (per our request). It was flavorful and fresh! The Beef Rendang was equally as yummy! Both entrees, Nasi Gireng Rendang and Beef Rendang, are must try items at Rendang. Curry lover may enjoy the Beef Rendang more due to the rich creamy curry-based coconut milk sauce. While I, on the other hand, may enjoy the Nasi Gireng Rendang more due to its variety. Either one would be an excellent choice. While the Pisang Goreng dessert looks aesthetically pleasing, I find the plantains not ripened enough to give this fried dessert the sweetness it needed. In the end, I am indifferent to this dish. This is not to say the dessert is bad, but it just doesn't appeal to someone like me. Such a rare gem of a restaurant deserves more recognition. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all foodies, one of my top recommendations for my best Asian restaurants in Tulsa list. HOWEVER, expect the food to be different which can be good or bad. Oh my gosh what a hidden gem! This place looks and feels like a dive but the food is top notch! I've been here a few times now and it is always so good. They've won many national awards for the food at Rendang. They have some great vegetarian options-big fan of the gorengan fried tofu appetizer and the gulai nangka, which is a deeply flavorful yellow curry dish made with jack fruit. There is a fried eggplant dish in yellow curry that is also really good but I can't remember the name. For carnivorous folks, I love love the rendang (slow cooked beef) dishes. All of the ones I've had are fire! The bakmi goreng is also super tasty, which is basically Indonesian lo mein. Service is pretty fast considering they make each meal fresh to order. This was our first time trying Indonesian food. And not a bad place to start. This place is inconspicuously located in a strip center off the corner of 51st street and Yale road. They were also nominated as a James Beard Award finalist, for those of you foodies that know what it is. The dining room is nice and inviting. The husband and wife team that own it are very nice. The husband runs the dining room and the wife does all the cooking as the chef. The husband has great hospitality and willing to explain anything on the menu. We got our feet wet by ordering ginger lemonades (they also come in hot) and they were wonderful. We also ordered martabak Telur for an appetizer, which is a beef filled pancake filled with egg and green onions then deep fried. This was very good and left me wanting more. For the main dish we ordered the popular Bakmi Ayam Bakso which is egg noodles with chicken, mushrooms and a homemade crispy wonton. This meal also came with meatballs in beef broth soup. The soup was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. This is the kind of soup you want on a cold winter day. The main dish was flavorful and very tasty, but not so exotic to discourage you from coming here. It provided a nice entry dish into Indonesian cooking scene and one of the most popular dishes there. To round out the evening we tried the Banana Bollen with jackfruit ice cream. This is a homemade pastry with banana, chocolate, cheese, cherry and mint then topped with your choice of one of the homemade ice creams. We chose the jack fruit ice-cream and were not disappointed. This dessert hit the spot and left us wanting more. We will definitely be back as this is one of the best places we have been all year! read more

Wow. My first experience with Indonesian food was excellent. The menu is full of explanations, so we were able to choose lots of good items. Fried beef pastry app is tasty, love that vinegar cucumber dip with it. Beef rendang is *so* tender and delicious. Love those sauteed veg. Meatball skewer app with spicy sweet sauce was my personal favorite. The combo platter is a good option to try a lot of things. V2 was great, lots of peanut flavor. The fried plantains and mango and jackfruit ice creams are worth every calorie. Overall, everything was simply amazing and fresh. I personally do not like eggs (can't understand why anyone does) and there's eggs in basically everything, so if you also think eggs taste like garbage just ask to leave those off. The absolute only thing I would want to be different is to have more condiments. I absolutely love fried chili oils, sauces, chutneys, dips, spices, jams. Would have loved that for the rice chips. Maybe that's not as typical for this cuisine. Def would come back again and again. This place has some of the best halaal food in all of Tulsa. Alhamduli Allaah, I have been looking for good halaal food, and especially good Asian food, and this is one of the best places I could've ever come to. The service is quick and amazing, with all the employees and the owner being kind, helpful, and generous. The entire setup and environment is such a relaxing experience and I could not love to sit and dine here more. To all my brothers and sisters in Islam, this place is wonderful. They do play music, so maybe bring headphones, but the place is otherwise the best you will ever find in all of Tulsa. The bakso malang is my favorite, but the soto ayam and the bihun goreng are also delicious. The nasi goreng is an absolute treasure that everybody has to try. It's been difficult to find an authentic and simple Indonesian restaurant. I've tried a lot of the menu items, and they all were flavorful. What a great find! It's kind of hidden away so it could be easy to miss. I've driven by this place so many times on the way to other nearby places, and always thought it seemed interesting, and had even heard good things about it from other people, but just never took the time to try it. Well I'm glad I finally did! Even though you can see what it looks like on the inside from the outside because of the large windows, it feels like a nicer restaurant than you'd expect it to be once you actually walk inside. Almost like the atmosphere changes from a little shop to a semi-fancy place to eat! And it's surprisingly clean... like very clean. You can tell that they really stay on top of it throughout the day, not just once or twice after the big lunch/ dinner rushes of people. The staff is extremely nice, welcoming, and helpful! From what I can tell, this is definitely a family run establishment (two of the workers we interacted with- an older and a younger man- were eating their own dinner at a table together with a woman I assume was the wife). We were greeted right away by the younger man and told to sit anywhere. He then came to give us an iPad full of pictures of every menu item (and organized by genre, too). I thought this was a very creative and effective idea! Then a woman came to take out drink orders. She seemed a little nervous (maybe new?) but also very kind. Then the older man, who I assume is the owner, came to the table and talked to us for a bit about Indonesian food and went through some menu items. He helped me choose between the two things I had it narrowed down to as well. I ended up getting the D12 (ayam cabe ijo), which is chicken in a green chili sauce. Because it is part of the "all time favorites" section, it also came with a side of rice, which you could have a free refill of. The rice was like any other white rice, and I thought I'd get a refill but I didn't in the end. The chicken was nice, nothing in particular that stood out about the texture or flavor of the chicken itself though. The size of the chunks were sort of like long and thin grilled strips, but not cut evenly, kind of like a fajita style of shape. The sauce was spicy and I thought it was really good! I'd say it was at a hot level, but on the lower side. That being said, I don't think it's for people who just kind of like spicy food, it's definitely for people who love heat! Even the owner told me he couldn't handle that one!!! The only thing that was kind of lacking about this place at all was the portion size. I just felt like it was not much food, especially based on the price. It wasn't super expensive, fairly average, just not average to the amount I'd normally be used to at similar prices other places. That's probably just me being a greedy American though (I'd say this is definitely an authentic place- I guess portion size and all), especially because I'll admit that by the time I was home I felt decently full... not like SUPER full, just right at filled up haha. Still, when the meal came out, it just wasn't much, so for me I'd like to see more. I'd even be down if it came with a side of veggies, it just needs something to heft it up a tiny bit. what can i say that hasn't already been said about this amazing restaurant? there's a big difference between food reviewers, and those who make food to be reviewed. food reviewers, like myself, have it easy. we get to put good or bad experiences into words. everyone knows the phrase "opinions are like..." well, i can't write the rest of it here, but chances are you know the phrase; however, in order to produce a dish worthy of selling, one would need to be passionate and knowledgeable about the cuisine they're preparing. this requires a skill level beyond that of writing a simple review. upon entering this restaurant, this was the exact experience my spouse and i received when interacting with the owner, who was working the register and as the 'server'. he shared the all the necessary details of how indonesian food is different than other south east asian cuisine. from there, each dish from the varying regions within indonesia were specified by him, with an in depth explanation on why specific ingredients were used for certain dishes. it was more than just a nice dinner. this conversation alone was an excellent experience. so now for the main point: the food! from the spicy noodle dish i tried, to the suggested plate that serves as a 'sampler' of sorts, was stupendous. it really did have its own unique flavor that i would've never otherwise experienced had i not stumbled upon a review on yelp. please, if you're second guessing this place, look no further for a clear sign to go outside of this review. i would have to recommend the beef rendang, as anyone who has tastebuds would love it, but especially food connoisseurs. the overall experience was nothing short of perfection, and us tulsans are fortunate enough to have the ability to dine here whenever. read more

I visited the restaurant after reading all the good reviews. They were right, Rendang's selection is great and my meal tasted fabulous! I had the Tongseng Tempe and it was perfect!! The corn/veggie fritters were delicious and had a yummy dipping sauce. For dessert, I had an Ed Teler. That was a new taste for me and it was very good. Service was polite and prompt. The owner helped me select my meal and was very kind. Ambience was casual and comfortable. You could have a nice date here or bring the family. Everything was delicious! So this restaurant is definitely a one of a kind find in Tulsa, if not all of Oklahoma. All the food we had was creatively spiced, unique, and according to an Indonesian international student at TU, authentic. The owners are very friendly and will help navigate the menu. It came with 1 drumstick with around 1/2 tbs of sambal, a light bamboo/veggie yellow curry, 1 hard boiled egg, about a cup of beef rendang, and rice. It was okay. Flavors taste like a combination of Indian spice fused with Thai. I got the Nasi Goreng. It came with 1 small lamb skewer, one fried egg, one large shrimp cracker, 2 small fried wing pieces, and underneath the egg were a delicious pile of fried rice. There were also some tomatoes and cucumbers to compliment the meal. Let's just say, the lamb skewer and fried rice were the star of the plate!! This was my first time trying Indonesian food and Rendang & Co provided the perfect experience! The restaurant has a small homey feel to it and the service was very pleasant and quick. I started with the lychee iced tea which was refreshing and not too sweet. For an appetizer I got the Martabak Telur which came out hot and crispy with a side of pickles. The meat and veggie filling was full of flavor. I was stuck between ordering the F1 and D1 combo plates, but ended up trying the D1 Nasi Padang with chicken. The beef rendang had a rich and deep flavor which paired well with the chili sauces. I was obsessed with the jackfruit and green bean curry, I probably could have eaten a whole bowl of just that! We went on grand opening day of Tulsa's only Indonesian restaurant. It was definitely packed with hungry customers just like during their soft opening the week prior. While waiting for our food to arrive, the owner stopped by to introduce himself and talk more about the Indonesian cuisine offered at this establishment. We ordered the Nasi Padang, which is a dish with steamed rice, beef rendang, fried chicken, vegetables, a hard boiled egg, and a spicy green chili paste. We also had their Bakmi Ayam Bakso, which is a dish with wheat noodles, chicken, vegetables, a side of spicy red chili paste, and a side soup bowl with meatballs. I would have preferred the beef rendang to be cooked more tender, but both dishes still tasted great and authentic. I would recommend them having chopsticks available next time because it would have been easier for us to eat the noodles. Overall, I am glad to see the food scene at Tulsa expanding to include different cuisines, and I would definitely come back again to try more of their dishes. read more

The chili paste was also wonderful. A perfect level of spice. I do wish they included more beef with the rice, but that's not a complaint so much as a compliment and kudos to the meal. Great Indonesian food in Oklahoma! Owners are very nice and helpful. Everything we ordered are delicious and taste like home.
