Jazz trio adding to the ambiance
    J W.

A charming relaxing lounge inside a jewel of the lively Grand Rapids' downtown. We were there to see the jazz trio led by Judah Guerra. It was lively on a Friday evening. Fortunately, for being in a mechanical wheelchair, we found the perfect lounge chairs to hear the band. The sound was perfect, not at high volume. It was elegant but more on the casual side. The staff was friendly & courteous.

To start, my drink was absolutely exquisite! I ordered their monthly feature. It was a cranberry elderflower spritz. The presentation was stellar and I had the chance to enjoy a live jazz band during my visit. The service was attentive and helpful. I can't wait for my next trip to the Rendezvous and hopefully another live band will be in the works!

I've been here a handful of times. I always get good service and great drinks. It's a classy place, but you feel welcome regardless.

We finished dinner a little early so my boyfriend and I stopped in to Rendezvous for a quick drink before seeing a show at DeVos. This newer bar in the Amway Grand is cozy and a little fancy, with comfortable chairs and lots of varied types of seating. We were greeted at the hostess stand and she told us we could take a seat anywhere. We opted for a seat on the curved bench which winds around one side of the bar. The menu consists mostly of drinks but they do offer a few small plates and snacks including charcuterie, flatbreads, and two sweet items. Drinks here are priced for the atmosphere and location, with cocktails ranging from $12-$15 for some basic specialty cocktails, $6-$8 for beer, and $11-$28 for a glass of wine. I ordered the Calor de la Pasion, which was pretty balanced but I was hoping for a lot more passionfruit flavor. It basically tasted like a margarita with a tiny bit of spice. I don't think it was worth $15 and probably wouldn't get it again. My boyfriend got the old fashioned which he enjoyed. We spent $33 for two drinks plus tip. Obviously we knew what we were getting into when we saw the menu, but the pricing seems high especially since they were pretty basic drinks. Service was quick, which was nice as we were on a schedule. I likely won't visit this bar again, but it was fun to check it out. I liked the atmosphere of the lounge space.

Really cool space and it has a classy hotel bar feel for sure, but the drinks were really expensive and not that good. The old fashioned I ordered I would have expected with a large ice cube or ball, instead it had crushed ice and was quickly watered down. It was just kind of a simple and boring version of the drink. It was pretty busy and the service was understandably slow, but if you are in a hurry that is something to keep in mind. I didn't try any food, so I can't speak to that. f I went back I'd give it a shot, and just stick to beer since it would be more consistent.

Jim was an amazing bartender! The drinks he made were phenomenal. The vibe of the bar was great. Definitely will be coming back here again.

Came for the most amazing performance by comedian, Alok!…read more The Pyramid Scheme is a fun retro take on a dive bar known for their great shows, pinball machines and (somewhat) reasonably priced drinks. The staff may seem rough on the outer edges, but they are all actually teddy bears once you get to know them. Usually shows are standing room only, which is a drag if you are old like me and opt not to wear orthotics. Luckily, the 9 pm encore show was seated. My old bones appreciated this. Now look below as I'm fangirling in the attached photos! I absolutely adore Alok and their courage to humorously challenge the gender binary and systematically poke holes in the patriarchal system that comprises The USA.

i have been attending the Pyramid Scheme for years now. I absolutely love all of the staff and they…read morereally become like friends and family after constantly seeing them when attending shows. The lineups are often pretty diverse, now offering more local music and the addition of more free events to bring together the community. They've added vintage nights, trivia, and free pinball days which I think is a very important and necessary community good. The venue has a front half with a bar, pinball cabinets, and even some outdoor seating. The back hosts the concert venue with interior bar, seating, and elevated stage. I'm allergic to alcohol so I can't speak to the drinks nor the prices but they have free water jugs readily available which is a lifesaver during shows and is just such a small, nice feature to have access to. I definitely would recommend coming here for a concert, finding some new local music, or establishing a new hang out for your friends.
