I came in for an excellent pizza, because I had heard so much about how big and amazing. I walk into the place and it smells amazing, like so amazing. I sit down and the waitress come immediately to take my drink order. Everything is going perfect, right. Wrong. The hospitality used to be friendly and warm but now it's just business. Order and leave. The food is overpriced and somehow smaller portions. Very good Friday baked walleye dinner and sides. I called ahead and asked about COVID precautions. I was told "not many staff wear masks." They weren't kidding. I didn't see a single staff person with a mask. There is a sign on the door that says something to the effect of your health is your responsibility. So ... having said that, when staff saw we had masks, they sat us far away from others at a table with good ventilation. read more

We were visiting Montello for the weekend and stopped in for dinner with our two kids. The food was great! My kids are picky and kind of hard to please, and both my kids enjoyed the food so much. My younger son especially likes the baked cod. The atmosphere is laid back, casual, and family friendly. Charlotte was extremely personable and provided excellent service. Gave this place a shot while I was in Montello, just ordered pizza so I can't speak for the rest of their menu. I wouldn't say it was anything particularly special, and for the price, you're better off driving a little further out of town and getting a quality pizza in Green Lake. The reason for the one star is that I wouldn't want to support the people running this business. No masks or extra safety during the pandemic, so take out is recommended if you're forced into eating here. I highly advise anyone who is paying to use cash, do not use your credit card! Not the kind of place you want to give them access to your card. Go somewhere else, you'll be happy you did. read more

I stopped in to pick up a pizza today. I was shocked, to say the least, to see that not a single employee was wearing a mask, even though it is state mandated at this time. If they care so little about their customer's health, it makes me wonder if they do things such as wash their hands, sanitize their dishes or follow expiration dates. I just changed my review from a 4 to a 5 as we have now been here approximately 15 times. This is totally unsolicited. We come up on the weekends and last fall I had a few too many and offered Charlotte one of the owners $200 for her decorated Christmas tree. The next day she called and gave me another decorated one she got from goodwill for free. The owners work their tail off and you can feel it in the quality of everything that goes on here. My wife and I really, really like the pizza. Crust is hand tossed and the quality of the ingredients is there. Best Italian Sausage anywhere in the state hands down. Haven't had a full fish fry yet but John the other owner was kind enough to give me a piece of his fish and it was really good. If I remember correctly he made me try it. Great guy. Although they have a couple TV's this is really not the place to come and see a game. With that said, get there a bit early and you'll likely get a good seat at the bar. Great place to come with your wife or a date. I have seen alot of families. Good place for kids compared to all the other places in Montello. We did take a canoe trip last spring and the service was really good as far as that was concerned. Really good people here. Great change of pace compared to all the Burger and Fry places in town. We went in with a group of 13 people for tubing.. there were several people in our group were not told to keep their receipt for tube rental, as we were asked if it was our first time and we said yes. When we had to go back to get the keys to our car, then go back to the car to get the receipt and went back in she said, I did tell you, you just didn't listen. So several of us didn't listen, but we knew where we couldn't get out of the tube at etc... Rude. Then all of us went in to eat and we were talking and laughing and she shhhhh'd and pinched her fingers together like she was our mother. Super friendly owners; clean, bright, and spacious dining area; and yummy homemade pizza. I had the Giovanni's kitchen sink pizza and thought the sauce and crust in particular was quite tasty. Decent selection of beer options to choose from. They also have various "outdoorsy" activities to chose from (kayak trips, canoe trips and tube trips) if interested in that type of thing. If looking to get away for the weekend and get out of the city, this would be a good spot to stop in at and try out. read more

I was in Montello for a couple days and camped out back behind the restaurant. John and Charlotte treated me like family the two days I was there. I sat out on the deck with them both mornings and had coffee with them before they opened for the day. I learned a lot about the local history of the town from them and they went out of their way to help me find what I needed in town. I had lunch and dinner at the restaurant and everything was excellent. As all the other reviews already say - the pizza is the best. The craft beer on tap is what originally made me want to camp there and it really took the edge off the long days. I felt at home the whole time and left Montello thinking it was such a great town. This is really an awesome place with an awesome experience. Not only can you rent a canoe, and go tubing down the river, they offer a full menu and bar. Charlotte and John are amazing people, and they are always involved with community giving. My girls LOVE Charlotte, who always greets them, and asks about school. They are both truly amazing people. The service is exceptional, and the food is great. Stop in on a Friday for fish fry. Only word of caution, while great tasting, their desserts are HUGE! My wife and I had lunch at Rendevous today (Saturday,4/15/17) and while the lunch was good we were shocked to find a $2 extra charge for splitting the entre. We have regularly split a lunch entre at dozens of restaurants around the state and never have had an add on charge like this. Possibly the worst day of my life. They dragged out a bunch of kayaks with no info except "they're all the same". Dumped a pile of lifejackets and left us to pick one ourselves. Never asked me if I had kayaked before (I had not). The footpedals on the kayak were adjusted so far down I could barely reach them, and the backrest was hard plastic, so by the time I got a mile my back hurt so bad I could hardly paddle. 3 trips to the shore later, I finally got them moved to a useful spot. Things were going better, I found a way to tuck my life jacket between me and the backrest for a bit of cushion, so I could at least rest my back. Then about 8 miles in we got near the lake. For some reason, at this point, my kayak would constantly turn to the right, so I was paddling constantly with my right arm only to keep it going nearly straight. The lake was a bit choppy, so if I stopped paddling for even a couple of seconds, the kayak swerved to the right, broadside to the waves, and the kayak rapidly filled with water and when the waves hit the kayak. it tossed the kayak on its left side, dumping me in the water 3 times. I was able to walk to shallow water and get back in twice, by the 3rd time I was so exhausted I could not get in. So I'm trying to float in a life jacket that is so big it literally floats off my body, over my shoulders and head. Can't swim or anything, cause I have to try to hold this thing on with one hand. My sister finally got her kayak turned around so I could hang on to it, but i still had to use one hand to hold on the life jacket. She tossed me her spare life jacket and I was finally able to get it under my legs and float, but the waves kept rolling over me, dumping lake water into my nose and mouth. Apparently there is no safety process on this lake, and no one at the resort we were headed for had a boat. Soooooo, I floated in the water over an hour, hanging on to my sisters kayak. The rest of my family was on shore with binoculars trying to see me, they thought I had drowned. My brother made it to shore towing my kayak and told them he thought I was ok, but to call 911. Somebody finally located a guy with a pontoon boat who came out and picked me up. I repeat, possibly the worst day of my life. Keep in mind I'm fairly athletic, I ride a bike a couple thousand miles a summer, and am not out of shape. read more
