Many local artists are featured which is such a refreshing experience after visiting local galleries that one might expect to find local artists but find the majority to be from out of state and less than unique works. Taag, in addition to featuring artists that are well known and with many years of experience, has been a starting point for a number of artists that are now very successful, as current -very talented emerging artists. The classes offered have been patiently and knowledgably taught (as told to me by parents and students involved) and a very generous number of scholarships for students are offered. My daughter received mentorship from the director of Taag when an unexpected delay in her college plans occurred (shoulder surgery delayed her attendance at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design for a year). She is now not only attending MIAD full time, on the Deans list and a member of the National Art Honor Society but an exhibiting Artist at Taag. My daughter looked for other opportunities within the area (we are not from iowa city) and found nothing inclusive for new artists with limited funds and chose to contact Bella Vine- Taag's director, after seeing a news report about other artists that had challenges who were mentored by Bella and who had great success following their involvement with Taag. I speak now, both objectively and subjectively in saying that for both artists (which I am not, but have associations with) and art lovers (which I am) Taag is a very great gallery- inclusive, well curated and comfortable, and an awesome mentoring and educational experience. It is unique to find this, especially this combination, anywhere in this area. Taag is a gallery well worth your time to visit....as well as support if you are so inclined!

First off, the storefront and sign are eye catching. And while Beadology Iowa changed names like a decade ago, this go-to bead store has lived in Iowa City for over 30 years. I walked in and was greeted with a smile. (That's always the best, isn't it?) As a non-jewelry maker I was amazed to see the different materials the beads were made of? Like; stone, pearl, metal, organic, glass, chrystal and one-of-a-kind flamework beads. WOWZA. Beads. Beads. Beads. Everywhere! Organized chaos of every color and from all over the world. There was eclectic jewelry for sale throughout the store-- which was made in house? I believe. Plus, an assortment of tools for jewelry making and other supplies. The staff appeared to be super knowledgeable, but I mean-- it's not like I'd have known :) The thing that really impressed me was just how passionate everyone I chatted with seemed. They were definite artists pumped to educate me on their craft. Classes are offered-- which I definitely need to hit up sometime. Wirework, stringing, knotting, flame-work, glass work, etc... I hadn't been to this new location of Brush & Barrel before (they moved to this location from the…read more1st Ave location in 2021), so this was a great chance to check it out. My husband and I had such a great time testing out our creative brains as we painted Picasso-inspired faces. Thankfully, the staff were generous with the paint! I think I asked for more paint 3-4 times... maybe I just like to glob in on, though. :) The space we painted in fit approximately 20-25 people. There was another room where splatter painting occurs. I think every one of us in our group said, "OooooOOOOooooo," as we passed that room on our way out. I will be curious to check it out sometime.

Savannah our nurse told me my daughter took her medicine well and I thought she was crazy....but it was a boy in the elevator that planted the seed about where to go for stuffies and my daughter pivoted... After we got a stuffie my daughter agreed to go to the 12th floor. The 12 floor had different air up there like #23.... The 12 floor restored my faith with my daughter Adrian (named after #94) and her cousin Madisen showed me family IS the best medicine... So every Hawkeye wave I remember the struggle; not only this hospital visit, but my childhood, #32, Jon Mai, my Ss who think I'm the most beautiful teacher, anyone who has walked where I've walked my whole life, the Entire ICCSD community, the JaguArs Softball Program, and my principal Mr. Andy Gahan at Coralville Central who is my why....honorable mention for those that suit up for Grandma & Moms...I see you....and remember I am a part of the club...
