I'm not sure if they all go through training to learn how to make their customers feel uncomfortable, unwanted and unnecessary, but it sure seems like it. There is one guy in particular at the lumber desk who actually does his best to make you feel like you don't know what you're doing. On FOUR occasions now I've left Perkins and gone up the street to Home Depot where I've been treated kindly and with respect. The woman at the register most days is unbelievably terse and rude. The only reason I still go there is because I made the mistake of creating a prepaid account there, not knowing what the place was like. It's almost as if you walk and and have to convince them all to let you shop there. I'd give the whole lot of them 0 stars if I could.

I walked all over the store and no one seemed to want to help me, so I left. There's were 5-10 associates on the floor and I think I was the only customer. The setup of the store is confusing and I'm sure their prices are high compared to a corporate building supply store. I'd just assume drive 10 mins farther to Home Depot, so that I know where items are, prices are lower and associates try to help you.

Deconstruction Works - 1770's timber frame completely stripped and ready for disassembly. Will be re-erected by the new buyer.

Now we can reuse that wood in another project. He arrived on time, texted us photos throughout the process, and left a clean site, with the reclaimed wood in a neat pile. Everyone else who bid on the project wanted to burn the wood or haul it to the dump. Deconstruction Works has an arrangement where you can save wood from old structures and donate it to a nonprofit for a tax credit (which is a great idea, very win-win). We liked this model as we weren't sure how much of the wood we would re-use, and it was good to know that little would go to waste. His price was a little higher than the competition, but we more than made up for this in the value of the lumber salvaged, and the service was excellent.

Because we were about 2 doors down from the worksite we were around a lot. I have to say everyone on the crew was a pleasure to be around. Because this level of project is new to us I think I was pretty anxious a lot of the time but Erich was always helpful and easy to get along with. I feel very lucky to have been able to hire them. The idea that the materials are being reused, the savings over straight demolition and the potential tax savings are really the icing on the cake to what was a great experience overall. Deconstruction Works also did some side work not originally contracted such as cleaning up the place. The work was done at a very fair rate and the project was finished ahead of schedule and on budget. This may sound weird but I will actually miss the Deconstruction Works crew. So fast, so professional, so good at what they do, and enjoyable to be around, oh yeah, and they saved us money too.
