As a practitioner and yoga teacher, I don't get to take public classes as frequently as I would like. Renew Yoga is my first choice in Petaluma. The studio is upstairs from Old Chicago on Petaluma Blvd. Heather curates a stunning space from entrance to yoga room. There is a 10,000 Buddhas mural by Amanda Giacomini that is a gift to sit under. I find it easier to be present practicing amongst the beautiful crystals sprinkled throughout with a wood floor and sky lights. The sound system allows teachers to use a microphone so it is easy to hear. The majority of the classes for flow focused, but many offerings to adapt for your preference. I love this studio and the wonderful community that Pam (the original owner) and Heather (the new owner) have created. It has been my sanctuary and refuge for more than 15 years. All the teachers are great! Each has a different style, but they all offer excellent classes with a good flow. Do you want to take a two week retreat in less than an hour? Then go to the noon yoga class on Friday with Alex. It was perfect. As I was a returning Yoga student who had been away from the mat for quite some time, I had a little trepidation about dipping my toes back into the pond. Renew studio comprised of three rooms: a check in space, a changing area and the studio. Wow! The studio was beautiful! Vaulted ceilings, wooden floors, a beautiful mural of 10,000 Buddhas. Also, it was warm without being hot which helps loosen up tight or in my case old and stiff muscles, much more quickly. Alex's class was well attended and he was a confident and thoughtful yogi. I wish he thought a daily nooner there! I can't wait until next Friday. read more

This studio is home to me. I can't say enough to describe how special it is and how much I love the people, location and atmosphere created here. I have been coming to Renew since it first opened - I was in high school! It was my first introduction to yoga...and throughout living other places and practicing all over in my travels, it has been a consistent home base and source of benefit for me. This studio has done nothing but level up! Instructors offer a wide expertise and encourage growth of the community through special events. Heather just added a yoga nidra class that I've been loving. Of course, it has been extremely difficult for all businesses to navigate COVID times. People can eat mask-less in restaurants now but still do yoga fully masked? I perceive that this studio has kept a good balance through the uncertainty and is responsible about keeping people safe and comfortable. If you have concerns about practicing in community during this time, I would suggest staying home a bit longer and acknowledging that business are doing their best to meet the various pressures arising in these "unprecedented times". I still love Renew Yoga. My current favorite teacher is Nicole. Her music choices are fun and the vinyasa is face paced. I love her teaching style. I also really enjoy Bob's classes. I like to take Bob & Nicole's classes because they teach pretty differently so it's a nice variance. They recently updated their heating system which I think really helped make it a better studio. I've been enjoying Renew for about three years now. If I don't ride my bike, I always find parking within two blocks. The studio space itself is magical. There are large crystals at the front and beautiful colors in the room. It's always warm and inviting. My teachers are amazing! The community is fantastic! This was my studio before COVID and before it changed owners and I loved it. I wanted to go back and had a bunch of classes left on my 20 pack, which the new owner honored. I went back 3x. The first time, class was not very crowded and we were all masked. The second time, I was the only person in class but the teacher and the owner graciously allowed me to stay. When I saw the owner take her mask off I said, Oh, OK, so you're vaxed? If we are all vaxed I will take my mask off too. She would not acknowledge she was vaccinated and said "Oh, we don't ask about vaccination here. Do what's comfortable for you." I deduced that she was NOT vaxed but It's a big room and I am boosted. I kept my mask on and did yoga. The third class I took was the last straw. Class was PACKED. I scored a place by the window, which was cracked open maybe three inches and wore my mask the whole time. The teacher was accompanied by a fellow playing drums and harmonium. Before class, the drummer asked me if I was OK seeing as I was probably the oldest person there and looked nervous. I told him I was frankly a little concerned as I couldn't help but notice that maybe a fifth of the class was unmasked. He smiled warmly and pointed to the side door next to my mat and told me I was free to leave at any time. (He was basically showing me the door in his caring yogic way.) I almost packed up and left twice but I figured I'd take my chances. Then, folks started to chant. Including unmasked people, chanting as loud as they could, expelling loads of OMMMMMicron into the air. I feel like an idiot but I stayed, breathing as shallowly as I could under my little mask and taking comfort in the fresh air coming through the window. However, I will not return. I am going to eat my remaining classes. I am 65, and my husband has every possible COVID risk factor. Despite all their bullshit about community and the love in the room, these folks simply DO NOT CARE. If they loved their kula, they would at the very least enforce a mask regulation and check vaccination. My pilates studio has everyone's vaccination status on file. If there is an unvaxed person in the room, they tell you and we all mask up. What you have here is a bunch of young healthy yogis and yoginis who think their practice makes them immune to COVID. (They oughta check the COVID death rate in India.) Putting people at risk by not enforcing an indoor mask regulation is not my idea of loving thy neighbor. I'm going to try Blue Door yoga, where everyone on the staff is vaccinated and masks are worn in class. The classes have been good but in light of the owner's gross indifference to the safety of her patrons, I am giving the studio one star. read more

One is my hobbies is taking yoga classes when I travel. Renew was a high point during my wineries tour in Sonoma County. The studio is gorgeous with bright green and exposed brick. It's clean and organized. It's not bright, and yet the energy gives it brightness. The alter gives the space meaning. The instructor was dedicated, gave great cues and was funny, which was necessary to take my mind off of the poses we held longer. I left feeling challenged and fulfilled but not wiped out. I just moved to Petaluma from Marin and was anxious to find a great new yoga studio. I am pleased to say that I have found a wonderful place that I enjoyed in every way! I went to Pam's class last week for the first time and loved it. It was nice and warm in temperature - but not too hot at all - and the flow of the class was just right. I worked up a sweat, I stretched my muscles and I felt amazing for the rest of the day. I will definitely be coming back. I have tried numerous yoga studios all over the country - from the sweaty and oddly 'competitive' to the quiet and sort of cliquey or pretentious - and I felt nothing but GOOD here. Good vibes from the instructor and the students as well. The space itself is very soothing with the high ceilings, paint colors and dark wood floors. I am going to bring a friend with me to a class here soon. I am sure she will love it, too. read more

This is the BEST yoga studio I've ever been to, and I've been practicing yoga, on and off, for over a decade. The way they vary the sequence, the approach, the verbal reminders to take this at your own pace, and grounding in a thought before practice begins make this such a rich experience. If you are a beginner, don't give up. This sequence will have hard spots for anyone, and a Vinyasa Flow class just "flows" from one posture to the next. You WILL get the hang of it. Don't be scared away by the "heated" rooms, either. You will truly be okay in a t-shirt and cropped yoga pants. The warmth helps to loosen up the muscles. It's never sweltering, the way it is in a Bikram studio. read more

It has been a year plus since I found this yoga studio and I am still delighted with it and it's teachers! They are true healers, offering a sacred and loving space to practice. I find that I am much more physically energized and confident after consistently taking the yoga classes at Renew and I have gotten back to weight lifting and trail running now that my knees are feeling studier. Honestly the BEST yoga class I have ever been to. I live in Los Angeles, but grew up in Petaluma. Usually when I am home it is only for a day or two, but I try my hardest to make it to Pamela's Power Yoga. It has now become my first priority of "things I need to do while home" I have taken a lot of yoga classes, and this tops them all. Pamela's workout is the perfect blend of strength, meditation, relaxation, and pushing yourself to the limits. She does poses that I have never seen in a power vinyasa class. I used to be a gymnast and always have trouble actually stretching my muscles to their capacity, and boy did her class do it!!! I was sore for 3 days!! The 90 minutes focuses on all areas of the body, so you literally feel strong, toned, accomplished, and purified when you leave. It makes you feel great for the entire day. And its not even that expensive. $13 for a drop in class! This class is not for beginners, but for all your Petaluma yogi's out there, get to Pam's workout. read more

Elizabeth's and Pam's classes are wonderful! After moving to the bay area a couple of years ago, I struggled to find a yoga environment that was both nurturing and physically nourishing, without a pretentious atmosphere. Renew was it.. I feel restored and satisfied and left feeling stronger, leaner and more energetic. The only down side is that the classes get extremely packed and I felt like a sardine squished in a can. I love sharing my yoga space but not if I constantly get someone else on my mat during poses. I would recommend cutting the class sizes down a little and then they would be perfect! read more

I love Renew Yoga. I have been taking yoga classes for about 5 years now and Renew is by far the best Yoga experience I've ever had. I've been practicing here for over a year now, and I literally can't go to Yoga anywhere else without being disappointed. Pam and Elizabeth are amazing. They mix just the right amount of spiritually in with each class. The flow is incredible. And the temperature in the room is just hot enough to get loose and for the sweat to flow - but not too hot (like bikram yoga, where you feel like fainting). I was not into yoga until I came to this studio and dropped in on a session of Power Yoga with Pamela. She is an incredible teacher, patient, wise, warm, and accepting, without too much hardcore New Age stuff - every class ends with a short meditation and some chanting, but it's really relaxing and not dogmatic. The studio offers regular yoga and "hot" yoga in a 90 degree room - believe it or not, the hot stuff is really wonderful. I am now really into yoga and the incredible feeling of strength, peace, and power it gives me. And it's a GREAT workout - hello, upper back muscles!
