My encounter with this business underscores how very important it is to do all your due diligence…read moreon a business before doing business with them, including giving them any donations. First, note that this The Veterans Alliance business is claimed here on Yelp. I came across this business calling themselves The Veterans Alliance in Sparks, Nevada. They were outside the door at Safeway aggressively soliciting for money claiming they're a non-profit. The picture is of the business card they gave me. I immediately checked with the Nevada Secretary of State web site to verify their claim that they're a non-profit. The Nevada Secretary of State web site has no record of them being a non-profit. In fact, the Nevada Secretary of State web site has no record ever of them being registered with the Nevada Secretary of State as they are required to be. https://esos.nv.gov/EntitySearch/OnlineBusinessAndMarkSearchResult Nevada law NRS 76.100 requires that all businesses must obtain a state business license from the Secretary of State before conducting business in the state. Nevada law NRS 82.051 requires all nonprofit corporations in Nevada to register with the Nevada Secretary of State. This law ensures that all businesses, including nonprofits, are properly incorporated and compliant with state regulations. Furthermore, since the grocery store they were at is located in Sparks, according to Sparks Municipal Code (SMC) 5.04.020, any person, firm, or corporation conducting business within the Sparks city limits must obtain a business license. That includes commercial locations, traveling into the city to work, residential/commercial rentals, and using your local home as an office. Operating without the proper permits and licenses in Sparks is a punishable offense that can lead to large penalties, mandatory citations and criminal misdemeanor charges. Christine Barton, Business License Specialist at City of Sparks stated they have has no record of an active business license or exemption from for The Veterans Alliance or Disabled Veterans Alliance. The Disabled Veterans Alliance written on the bottom of the business card they gave me is "dissolved" per the Nevada Secretary of State web site. https://esos.nv.gov/EntitySearch/BusinessInformation It had a Ronald Peak as its Registered Agent, Canyon Sparks as its President, Victoria Morales as its Treasurer and Delilah Verry as its Secretary. Even if it wasn't in the public record as dissolved, Washoe County has no record of a DISABLED VETERANS ALLIANCE having the required In Nevada DBA aka Fictitious Firm Name (FFN) to operate under The Veterans Alliance name. https://ssclerk.washoecounty.gov/web/search/DOCSEARCH735S2 Under NRS 602.010, you are required to file an FFN if your business operates under any name that differs from the legal name of the owner(s) or your registered entity's legal name. I didn't give this The Veterans Alliance any money since I was unable to verify they are a legal non-profit in compliance with all laws. P.S. Don't message me because in spite of my several complaints to yelp, for years now I am unable to open up any messages in yelp to me :-(

Eddy House - Eddy House Drop-In Resource Center and Emergency Youth Homeless Shelter

Did you know the youth homeless population is the fastest growing in the nation?…read more As a masters candidate at UNR, Lynette Eddy did, and she saw a need to get ahead of it in our community, starting the Eddy House to help, and today this is one of the most successful in the nation! I had the opportunity to work for the first version of this NPO near the beginning, when they owned a home in NW Reno that provided a safe place for 5-8 young men to live and owned a restaurant in downtown Reno as a work experience for them. I knew the organization was vital then, but it just wasn't the right format for them to deliver their maximum impact. Over the years they learned a lot, and under the leadership of some extremely astute folks, they've grown into the vital community organization I always knew them to be. Starting with the YOU, they helped homeless youth find purpose and footing, access to necessary resources and opportunities to learn academically and about themselves with the support of some great local partners. In the last year they realized their dream of opening a 24 hour drop in center for youth, something so incredibly needed by our community, and they continue to advance their mission from there. Now they need our support more than ever. If you can, consider sharing something with them so they can continue to serve the community.

The League has helped me grow personally and professionally while making a real difference in our community.

These women are truly inspiring. They volunteer their time and talent to transform our community, and the impact is huge. I've seen them help with organizations like Karma Box, and they're always donating their money and time to various groups in need. Beyond the community service, it's also a wonderful space for women to learn new skills and gain confidence. My wife always comes back from events with so much energy and resolve, which speaks volumes about the supportive and empowering environment the Junior League provides. This is an organization that genuinely makes a difference and empowers women to become leaders in our community.
