Emilee had taught my son how to ride and I knew her to be professional, knowledgeable, encouraging, and kind.

You're away from the city, cars, and all the noise, which made it even more enjoyable. It was my boyfriend's and my first time, and we actually found this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did because it was amazing! The staff were friendly, whether we were talking to them in person or over the phone. Making a reservation was also really easy. Our reservation was at 4 PM, and we arrived around 3:30 PM. We were taken out about 20 minutes after arriving. There isn't really good cell service out there, but honestly, that's okay! You're supposed to enjoy what's right in front of you and take in the beautiful views. Wearing a helmet is optional, and I personally chose not to wear one. I got Becky, who was a really slow horse but absolutely beautiful. Throughout the tour, the horses can stop whenever they need to use the restroom while you're riding them. They are very friendly and don't harm you. Before the tour, the guides and workers show you how to turn left, right, stop, and go. Please don't be harsh on the horses. They can get hungry and tired, and after each tour, they are given food. Sometimes, even when you're close to finishing the tour, your horse might start rushing because they know they're almost done. The horses can also stop to scratch themselves on trees, which is what my horse did! Our tour guide was Tula (I'm sorry if I spelled her name wrong), and my boyfriend rode Brown Jack. Throughout the entire tour, our guide made us feel very safe. She asked us questions, talked with us, and really took the time to get to know us. I absolutely loved her! We also made a stop along the way where she took individual pictures of us and group pictures. The views were beautiful, and it was such a special experience. At the end, my boyfriend's horse tried to bite another horse, and an employee hit the horse with a rope. I honestly felt really bad seeing that because I felt sorry for the horse. They also provide stools to make it easier to get on the horses, and the staff helped adjust the seating and foot area so we could be comfortable. By the end, my butt was definitely hurting , but honestly, it was worth it! Overall, this was a lovely experience, and I would definitely recommend it, especially if you want something peaceful, beautiful, and different from the usual activities. 10/10!

The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, and our horses were wonderful. The guide added to the experience and made the ride enjoyable throughout. I highly recommend this for couples looking for something scenic, different, and memorable to do together. I would also suggest choosing the longer trail because it gives you more time to enjoy the ride and take in the lake views. The combination of the horses, the scenery, and the overall atmosphere made this one of the highlights of our trip. I would definitely do it again.

Our guide, Kiera, was fantastic -- knowledgeable, relaxed, encouraging, and clearly wonderful with both people and horses. The scenery was breathtaking, and the ride felt like a real adventure rather than just following a trail in a line. We crossed a beautiful river twice, rode through gorgeous mountain terrain, and truly got to experience the landscape. My horse, Buckwheat, was such a character and made the ride even more fun. We especially appreciated that the ride felt personal, peaceful, and authentic. You can tell the horses are well cared for and that the guides genuinely love what they do. Highly, highly recommend this experience if you're looking for a scenic and memorable ride in the Truckee/Tahoe area!

And I was blown away by the pony show on Friday morning! The counselors were so caring and great with the kids and 4-H values and true equestrian skills are evident in all the kids learn in a short 5 days. I cannot say enough what a gem this place is. Only one exit down the road from downtown Truckee but a world away and we could pick her up at lunch and still have a family afternoon together. We felt so lucky that we found out about this camp. We will definitely be back!

Another example of how Franktown scams their customers is horsemanship on Saturdays is literally just the kids doing chores that the owners are responsible for doing. This barn is very overpriced and not worth it AT ALL. There were some cases when my kid was so scared to go to horsemanship because of the stress that she would feel sick to her stomach. Riding is supposed to be fun and this is exactly the opposite. Do not go here. It is an absolute shit show.

From what…read moreI've seen and from stories shared by others, the environment can feel harsh and unsupportive. Staff members sometimes raise their voices, use language that feels inappropriate around kids, and place heavy cleaning responsibilities on students. To me, this doesn't seem like healthy structure or discipline -- it comes across as excessive and discouraging. I've also heard from multiple students that the way horse leases are handled can create pressure and a sense of power imbalance. Many kids feel trapped or anxious, which is heartbreaking in a place that's supposed to nurture confidence and joy in riders. While I've seen other glowing reviews about this facility, I can only speak to what I've observed and been told -- and it doesn't reflect a positive experience for many kids. I hope the facility reflects on its culture and works to create a more respectful, supportive environment. Parents, please take the time to visit and see for yourself before making a decision.
