If the item is the same price as at our local supermarket, the 2% cash back loyalty program win it for our local supermarket. And we still buy some non-grocery items here, rather than automatically ordering from the mega online company that I will not name here. Another change is that I have switched to the Walmart pharmacy for a couple of prescriptions, one for myself and the other for a pet. The service is excellent and the pricing an improv over our previous pharmacy. A supplemental benefit is that if I want to use up rewards money from my health insurance card, the self-service registers accept the card when other stores did not.

The Maine Mall was always a better option with more stores and choices, but it was almost an hour away, so Auburn Mall was what most of us used. The anchors were JCPenney, which somehow is still here, and Porteous, which eventually became a TD Bank office. Most of the smaller stores are long gone. A few businesses remain, but many empty storefronts are now used to display what looks like the mall owner's personal collection of motorcycles. It feels less like a mall and more like someone's very strange private museum. Walking through the mall today is like stepping into a time capsule. The interior still has that unmistakable 1990s vibe, from the floors to the lighting to the decor. It's like no one ever thought to update it, which is both charming and a little sad. The place feels frozen in time, stuck somewhere between the past and the present. The entrance still sports that unmistakably 1990s sign. It's so outdated it's basically retro now. If a movie studio wanted a location for a 90s mall scene, this would be perfect as is. The Auburn Mall isn't really a mall anymore. It's a nostalgia trip with quiet hallways and plenty of memories. One star for what it is today. A thousand stars for what it once was.

My earlier review, brief as it was, still sums up my positive opinion of Reny's, a truly Maine chain of stores where I have shopped dozens of times without a single negative experience. There is street parking and a small parking lot to the left of the store. They also have a passport activity you can use as a day trip experience, whereby you are given a passport to bring to all or some of the branches around the state and have them stamped and signed by an employee. You get a prize halfway through the 19 stores and another at the end. To quote the chain's public relations, it is part of the Maine Adventure!

Every once in a while you'll strike gold by finding an expensive product at a deep discount. If you see a deal that you really want....don't hesitate, buy it, because it WILL be gone within a week or so. This location is VERY easy to find. A repurposed Kmart building, I believe... It's right off the highway, in fact you can see it from the off ramp to the right. There is plenty of parking even when it's crowded. I have never been to this location around the holiday, but I have driven by, and it is always packed! This locally owned retail chain, sells overstock, liquidation and salvage items. We have seen things from Amazon as well. It's usually so random, although they have seasonally appropriate items as well. When we have the time and energy, we like going through the clearance aisles...yes, they have clearance aisles in a discount store. The clearance aisles are only organized by the percentage off and so it's chaotic. Bring patience and a sharp eye for deals. We have gotten electronic peripherals and accessories. We also bought some great yard deals. While we didn't buy them, they had Robotic Lawn mowers with batteries for sale. This store is quite large and have things like furniture, appliances....so much stuff. If you are a patient bargain hunter, that doesn't mind being around people, you may like this store. Worth at least one visit.
