I was so completely screwed by Kevin at Repair Right, I don't even know where to start. Please go somewhere else if you have the choice. I brought my new Mazda CX7 to Repair Right for an alignment, new tire installation/balancing and an oil change. When I picked up the car Richard explained to me that everything went well, but he couldn't figure out how to turn off the tire-pressure indicator light on the dashboard. His advice was to read the manual. This should have been my first clue that something was off. One day later I realized the steering wheel was shuddering hard above 60 MPH and I could not make the tire pressure indicator light go off after following the instructions. I brought the car in that week for a re-examination, this is when I met Kevin (the owner). He came on a ride with me but could not feel the shudder and told me not to worry, he's been doing this over twenty years and everything was fine. Then he mentioned that he was not really sure what work was done on the car because they had taken it to Les Schwab for the alignment and tire install. WTF? I brought the car to these guys to support the local guy and they took it Les Schwab? On a Friday I brought the car to the Milwaukie dealership for an inspection. Things started to get really interesting. The dealer found 3 main problems. 1. Someone lost, or never reinstalled the tire pressure sensor for one of the tires. This is the reason why the indicator light was on. 2. The tires had never been balanced. Zero balancing weights. This was causing the shudder in the steering wheel. 3. The alignment was way off. This also causes a shudder. After fixing the problems at the dealership all is well with the car. However, problems with Kevin at Repair Right are not. I contacted Kevin after the dealer repairs and explained to him that I needed a refund for the work I contracted them to do and they failed to complete (alignment and tire balancing) I also asked for him to refund the $88 for new tire pressure sensor. After 2 months and 5 phone calls I received a check from Kevin for $40 and a copy of his receipt from Les Schwab. Obviously this was lower than I expected. I called Kevin that day and explained to him my disappointment. I explained that I don't give a flying fuck what Les Schwab refunded him, I didn't take my car to Les Schwab, I took it to him at Repair Right. I was upset at this point and I did raise my voice when I told him that it was his responsibility to make this right. At this point in the conversation he said, "You know what; I want you to come down here right now so I can beat the piss out of you, because you're a whiner." Seriously...he threatened to beat me up!!! Well, if you call someone who dislikes getting fucked by mechanics a whiner, then I guess I'm your guy. Needless to say I won't be returning to Repair Right and they should receive a small claims notice from the court soon. If you live in Southeast Portland, especially near Reed College, please pass this on. read more

I read some of the poor reviews , but we've had nothing but great experiences here. The prices have been very fair, they often tell us what needs to be done vs. what can wait to be done later vs. what does not need to be done. They've been helpful in doing a little extra for us to allow us to pick the car up according to work schedules, etc. If you are in a rush to get out of there, you need to tell them because they'll both chat your ear off, but we have nothing but good things to say about Repair Right. read more

I knew I had to replace a serpentine belt on a GMC Somoma Truck. I called and spoke with Rick - he explained these trucks sometimes need to replace the pullies / system along with the belt. Oh, oh Red Flag right away - I thought OK - these guys are trying to sell me something I don't really need - the truck is a '96 with over 100K miles - so I am not investing too much into this thing. Just using it for weekend trips to Mt Scott for mulch and landscaping needs. So - I listened to Rick's expert opinion. He quickly offered to take a look ad let me know. I was there within 15 mins and he was quick to explain the situation. I did not buy into the new pulley system, etc - and I was not pressured. The truck was finished within 1.5 hours - with an oil change thrown in as well. Overall - I think these guys have your best interest - and will not try to up sell and oversell you like some garages. Although new to town, Kevin and crew have given my car excellent service without overcharging. I had a laundry list of repairs, from minor to major, that they saved me money and time on (I already had a few estimates from prior mechanics about these problems). Some things they repaired without cost just because they we're already doing something, it was easy, and didn't require new parts. Suspicion about the honesty of a mechanic is pretty common; even if you're not sure, here's my best advice. Get an appraisal. They explain everything, without excessive jargon, before doing the work. If the diagnosis and cost change, they let you know before doing anything. None of this "you said it was ok beforehand". read more

Repair Right is definitely a keeper. The folks there are fantastic, very very helpful, and I truly do trust them. I needed some simple part for an old toyota and, I thought, a new starter. They told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with the starter and that they have a retired guy who goes around to junkyards to get parts. They found me the thing I needed for $25 (including labor) when it would have cost $125 new. They rock! They never put me on hold, always called when they said they would and THOROUGHLY explained everything to me in a kind way. I appreciate how difficult it is to find a new mechanic and am so thankful to have found them. read more

They never talked down to me as a female coming to the mechanic. Their prices were fair and when I needed something done quick, they were super-accommodating. They were always kind, professional, and extremely good at their jobs. I haven't even lived in Portland for two and a half years, and I still look back fondly on the service I received there! (I'm posting this because a friend of mine still in Portland recently blogged about a positive experience here - he wanted to have the car checked out after a minor accident to make sure it wasn't damaged, and they not only checked it over and pronounced it safe, but refused to charge him for it 'cause he's been a regular customer for a few years. I have known Kevin for over 20 years. He has always saved me money. I am very satisfied with all the repairs that they have done over the years. The latest was a minor little ding, but insurance covered repairs, so I brought it in. They matched the color perfectly. I can not even tell exactly where it was. Kevin was concerned about the rental car and drove me to get it himself. Very kind, but very professional when it comes to cars. read more

More like Repair Wrong Auto. I've had to pay another mechanic to repair the damage done by these guys. I won't go into to details for fear of reprisal, but seriously stay away from them. And, don't let them bully you with their fast-talk. Buyer beware. A tow truck driver told me he has had "tow a lot of people out of there." Finding an honest and competent auto mechanic is one of lives great challenges -- you can cross these guys off your list. read more

I will admit that I read these reviews with a grain of salt, and the only true measure of their service is through our own personal experience. This said, my own times with Repair Right Auto dictate that I should share. First off I would like to say the folks there are NICE PEOPLE. They are all those who you would enjoy doing business with as they are down to earth and seem like they actually care. The first time I went there, it was just down the block from my house, and the owner was kind, courteous, helpful, even lent me jumper cables and told me exactly how to jump my car when my battery wore out. So I took my car there for an oil change, which was $30-40, but I didn't mind the price that was twice as much as 2 nearby auto stores since he was so helpful and convinced me that my problem wasn't my battery in a competent and professional manner. Six months later, my battery was having issues again, but I figured it was for the same reason as before (non consistent driving...I would wait a few days sometimes between driving and it would drain. I was told this is normal and I just need to drive more often). So I decided to take my car back there for an oil filter yet again and to have my battery and tires checked, as I also had a warning light pop up for my tire and couldn't find the problem (no tires were visibly deflated). Expecting the same service, I was the first customer of the day and gave them my car at 8 AM. I waited at my house expecting to pick my car up within 2-3 hours, however, I did not receive a call from them until 4 PM. When I got my car back, my warning light for my tire was still blinking, but I was told that my battery, which I told them I just jumped the previous day, was fine. I was charged $40 for an oil filter change. LESS THAN A MONTH later, I was jumping my battery on a weekly basis yet again, so, this time I took my car to my dealership, who told me that my battery has a failing cell, and it being 3.5 years off the factory floor, it was expected. They actually showed me numbers from their tests, and proceeded to also show me the nail that was lodged in the inside side of my rear tire that repair right didn't even bother to look for. This means that in the two times I took my car to them, one of them being an 8 hour OIL CHANGE they were unable to find what my dealership took two hours to find and fix (And that time included tire changes, rotations, and a complimentary car wash). I hope my experiences help another make an informed decision regarding bringing their vehicle to this shop. read more

I was suckered by their kind remarks and Christian pictures in their office, but be forewarned: these guys are either clueless about fixing automobiles or they're crooks! After spending over $1200 and four months later my car started doing the same thing it was before I took it in to their shop. When I took it back in, they said they couldn't replicate the sound and that they were sure it was fine. I took it to another mechanic and found the truth. They incorrectly installed two parts!!! I'll NEVER take my car there again and you should seriously consider doing likewise. read more

i don't know--my bill was suspiciously always about 2,000 dollars so i stopped going there. they did fine i guess but nothing special and i get a little sleaze vibe. i would keep looking. Reedies--dont go just because it is next to Reed unless you really need to. read more

Be warned - Kevin is distrustful and disrepectful. I went to Repair Right requesting an evaluation of my brakes and alignment and asked that they call me with a quote. In the late afternoon Kevin told me my car was "done" and that I could pick it up. Upon getting to the shop he handed me a $500 bill for a brake job which I would later learn I didn't even need. Les Schwab and another independent garage both told me that the condition of the parts he took off my truck were "like new" and that whoever did this work was a "ripping me off" When I confronted Kevin about what was essentially a miscommunication between himself and another employee - he refused to accept any professional responsibilty for the confusion, tried to blame me and refused to consider discounting the work. When I returned the following day to attempt to reconcile, Kevin was irrate, threatnening and personally insulting in front of other customers. I cannot reccomend going to Repair Right under any circumstances. read more
