I have a very unique vehicle, it is a 1997 Toyota Hiace all-wheel-drive van from Japan. It is right hand drive. The dealer/service shop told me the front brake pads needed to be replaced and they guesstimated 2 to $3000. Well, having been around the block a few times I realized that was absolutely not gonna work. I found the pads for $200 which is quite expensive, but Pat and Dan and the crew installed them, bled the brakes, and inspected the rear brake drums and only charged me $350. Initially Pat said, bring the rig in so they can take a peek at it and make sure they could work on it and he said, not a problem. Anyway, trust these guys, they're good. read more

Note: This review is solely based on my experience with Cooke's Brake Service on the phone. When it comes to car maintenance or repair, I always dread the moment that the team tries to upsell me - whether it's higher quality oil or brake pads. Surprisingly enough, this was not the case at Cooke's Brake Service as they were personally honest and accountable - think I found myself an automotive shop for my brakes! I had scheduled my appointment a few weeks in advance since they are only open on the weekends and from 8 am - 5 pm. Dan, one of the shop members asked that I call in a few days before to confirm the appointment since they are a small shop and they might be closing the shop early that day. I had no issues with that, after all, it's the holidays and who wouldn't want to go home early?!? Fast forward to the week of the appointment, Pat, another shop member gave me a call and said that they aren't sure if they can make it in for the appointment because of the snow so they had to reschedule me. Being that it's a small family-owned business, this is impressive that they called to reschedule in advance rather than the day of or before. I brought my car to these guys in a panic when my brakes started making a grinding sound. They got me in ASAP and took a look at everything, and even took the time to bring me into the garage and show me what was wrong and explain what they would do to fix it. I needed a LOT of work done, so it ended up running me $850, but compared to things I've read online, this was very affordable for the work that was done. I really appreciated the added effort of trying their best to preserve/salvage the parts of my brakes that they weren't sure would make it through the repair. The quote for both the price and the time it would take (3 hours) were completely accurate as well, which made it easy for me to plan how to spend my time in the area while I waited. Overall, this is the best mechanic experience I have had so far. The guys at the shop were awesome, talked to me like a person and explained everything to me (even though I know nothing about cars), and provided high quality and affordable service. They had such a kind manner and happily recommended another Mom and pop tire shop, Lovely's wheel&Tire to me. When told by a local oil changing place that I needed new brakes asap (that day) I took my car to Cook'es for a second opinion and they told me that I didn't need actually any break work and didn't charge me anything. The second time I came in just to see if everything was safe for a long road trip they again told me everything was fine with my brakes, topped off some of my fluids, and didn't charge me a cent. They just said they'd be happy to do the work when it was needed. Everybody was super nice, respectful, and kind, even offering me a seat in the shade while I waited the final minutes for my car. My back brakes have been squeaking badly when I back up. I was pretty sure I heard it going forward or maybe on front brakes this week. I admitted I needed to get in to get serviced and found all these reviews. As a woman, I have been taken advantage of by automotive repair places and after researching for a week I couldn't get this place that isn't in my area, out of my head. I called Cooke's and spoke with Pat, who said bring it in, on this busy Friday (same day) I'll take a look. I've never been their customer before today. He had me drop it off to check it out (he said give him an hour, but he called me 30 minutes later) and said you know what, your brakes are all good. I would say you have up to another 2 years before you need service. He had to spend his time, to remove my tires, to check. He didn't ask for a dime, and he's ridiculously honest. LOVE THIS SHOP!!! I can't say enough good things about this service shop and the family that owns/works it. My sister and I were going to embark on a coast to coast road trip in a 23 year old truck. I knew that the truck had brake issues, which is why we had it towed into Cooke's Brake Service. Pat offered to look the truck over for any other issue that it might have that could cause us trouble on our trip. They worked with our tight time schedule and fix a couple other issues that helped us to have a most enjoyable and trouble free trip. I've lived up to my due diligence as a millennial to not know anything about cars. Dad says to get some parts replaced due to time/mileage so I found Coliseum Auto who referred me to this place. For the second time, Pat took the time to give my car a check up and only charged me for changing the transmission oil. Twice now he's swayed me away from doing extra work on my elderly car. The transmission fluid change was also half the price as an oil changing place. On the second visit, he spent the time to inspect my car, didn't charge me and then drove me to his friend's place down the street to refer me for an oil pan fix.
