I have been coming to the 50th street location since I moved to the neighborhood 5 years ago and have always had great service. I have followed all service recommendations as I really want to make sure my car is cared for, and I have not regretted it. Recently I went in to get a regular mileage checkup, transmission fluid flush and oil change. Everything went according to plan except the tech forgot to reset the electronic component for the service reminder, so I called them to let them know I was bringing it back in. They apologized for the hassle. During the next 24 hours my license plate light had gone out, so when I went in for the service reminder reset, I asked them to please change out the bulb (I was quoted $27 by the office assistant which I thought was a lot for a single dinky bulb), but the wonderful office manager told the assistant who was helping me to waive that fee being that I had to come back to do the electronic reset which I really appreciated- that is great customer service!! They forgot to replace oil cap during oil change. Engine got covered in oil. They said they would clean the oil off. Next time I came in they tried to charge me for cleaning off the oil and to "look for oil leak" from their first mistake. I came back for a second oil change and THEY STILL TRIED TO SELL ME ON CLEANING OFF THE OIL THAT THEY NEVER CLEANED OFF. They made a huge mistake and repeatedly tried to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix it. There were additional problems with my car stemming from the oil splashing all over everything that they also tried to me to pay them to fix. About as unethical as you can get. read more

Do not trust this shop with your vehicle. They do very shoddy work. I've been here twice because it's close to my house. Here are my experiences: 1. Took my VW in for an oil change. I asked on the phone if they could take a foreign car and they assured me they do it all the time. They proceeded to install an ill-fitting oil filter. (Evidence attached) 2. Took my Ford camper van in for a cracked exhaust manifold more recently. They told me they would also need to replace the head gasket for a total of $1,000. I agreed. They then broke multiple bolts and charged me an ADDITIONAL $2,000 so they could send the whole thing away to tap out the bolts and clean the heads. At this point it was undriveable so I had no choice but to agree. The van broke down the next time we tried to drive it and the next mechanic said that the cylinder heads were never even cleaned. I only have good things to say about the staff. Super friendly, they got me in super quickly, and were very helpful. However, I do have a problem with their pricing. I understand the service fee of $85, fine, okay. But I was quoted $1300 to change 6 spark plugs + ignition coils, and $530 to change the one malfunctioning ignition coil/spark plug. I ended up going O'reilys and paying $10 for a spark plug, $50 for an ignition coil, and watching a YouTube video which allowed me to fix my truck in less than 10 minutes. I don't think it was cool how they wanted more than $1000 for what would have been less than an hours worth of work... read more

I was quoted 170.00 Just to look at my old carbureted vehicle. Then quoted over $1000.00 to replace the Carburetors to get it to pass DEQ. I declined the work and left with a 170 lighter wallet. I had played around with my carb before I let them "Look" at it. When I got it back the screws were in the same positions I had taken it to them, so all they did was "look" at it and gouge me for cash. After seven trips to DEQ adjusting the screws myself, I passed DEQ. I'm not a mechanic! Shame on them! read more

Brought my car in to replace the brake pads, they charged $85 for diagnostics and when I came to pick up the car they told me both calipers were shot and gave me an estimate of $1200. I decided to trust my gut and took it to the dealership. Calipers are fine, rotors are fine, brake pads weren't nearly as worn down as K&M claimed (They were evenly worn too) At the dealership with manufacturer parts it would still be cheaper than K&M's estimate. Staff was rude, and the "diagnostic report" was incorrect in multiple places. I will say when I came in for an oil change a few months ago it was fine and the techs were very helpful. read more

First time trying this shop out, I went in for an oil change and a tune-up as well a diagnosis for a stalling issue I was experiencing in my Mazda 3. Matt immediately began in on the brakes. $1200.00 Completely missed: Bad plugs Manifold leak Corroded battery IGNORED TWO Check engine codes. Catalytic Converter and Transmission code. I brought my car here a few weeks ago to have the engine looked at. They were super transparent and helpful with the recommended repairs and were considerate of my budget. A few days later I noticed the hood of my car wouldn't open so I brought it back to K&M and they fixed the hood for free. They also offered me an Uber ride home while I waited. I have had two great experiences with K+M recently. Both were great examples of advocating for me as a customer and educating me as a customer. The first was when a cell of the new (15 month) battery in my Prius failed and Jacquie advocated for me that it still be covered under warranty. The second was when a transmission issue showed up on a new to me vehicle. Jacquie steered me away from buying a service contract that I had only days left to qualify for. She researched a factory warranty for me and did not charge me for the time they spent working on my behalf in either of these situations. I had my broken down vehicle towed here only because it was closest to my house. I ended up needing a new distributor cap and plugs, fuel filter, and they cleaned out my fuel line, etc. It seemed a bit pricey (just under 1K), but what do I know, as it's been many years since I've needed repair. I had also asked them to check my battery terminal, because I was having issues with the connection, requiring me to pop the hood and move it around every now and then to start it (it was a separate issue than why it broke down). They did, but didn't find anything. A few weeks later, my car wouldn't start again because of that connection. So I brought it back and asked them to clean the male and female terminals rather than replace them, because, with labor, it would have run me like $100. They said they'd clean them for free. THEN, they gave me my car back and told me that they just gave me new terminals anyway, for FREE, and said, "Merry Christmas!" SO cool! I have been coming to K & M for years and I can't say enough good things about them. Jackie and Sue (in the front) are the best: so knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. Most importantly, they are honest. They tell me when I can save money by doing things myself or if I can put off a repair while I save money. Sometimes I am lucky and they even have a free loaner car I use while my repairs are being done. Countless times they have extended themselves above and beyond what most businesses do. If they have the option to help they do and my bill has been less than expected on more than one occasion. I took my 06' Hyundai Sonata in to K & M to have a charcoal canister replaced because of a check engine light code P0422. They performed a smoke test and found it wasn't the problem but that it was a vapor canister vent valve. Upon inspection they also found numerous pin hole leaks on the top of the gas tank, thanks to many years of winter driving on salted roads in the eastern half of the U.S.. They made several recommendations and we came to a mutual decision on a course of action. They found a used tank and got it ordered. Unfortunately that tank ultimately turned out to be unavailable and searched for another until they found one, out of Texas. They ordered it and it was shipped via UPS. Due to circumstances out of their control it was delayed, twice! Once they finally received it they went to work right away and got the car finished and made sure all was working properly before calling me and telling me it was ready. The best news was it came in under estimate! I reviewed many other places prior to selecting K & M and told Jackie as such when I first came in with the car. She was very professional as was the tech, who explained to me the findings before I left the car. K & M has always been on the expensive side, but they've always done a decent job. A recent experience has changed my opinion of them. One day, the check engine light appeared and, after leaving the vehicle with K & M for a few hours, it turned out to be a worn out gas cap. After picking the car up, I noticed the radio no longer worked. The radio had never not worked. The next day I brought the car back in and the woman at the counter told me that it was not K & M's fault, because all they did was just plug something into the car to check its health, etc. I pleaded my case to no avail. This is just bad customer service and a failure to take responsibility for something they must have obviously caused. The correct response would have been to apologize and just restore the radio to its original functioning state. I've been a very loyal customer and have referred others along the way. I dropped my car off for an oil change, and they fit me in easy enough, so I took a walk and came back an hour later to get the car. Oil change cost $35, and I think they do a "premium" one for ~$60. When I picked it up they told me I needed a couple of repairs: 1) my water pump was leaking, so I needed to keep an eye on the coolant if I was going to drive it for a while, and 2) my break lights weren't working, and that it wasn't a mechanical issue (burnt out bulbs) but electrical. They told me to diagnose the break light problem it would cost $75, and then they'd do the repairs. Well, screw that. My family's been going to Ben's Japanese Auto Clinic for years so when he quoted me a reasonable amount for the water pump, I figured I'd just get all of the repairs done there. Turns out K&M tried to screw me over on two fronts (I was an easy target, probably, since I know next to nothing about cars). First, the coolant they added was the wrong kind for my car-- some orange kind instead of the red Toyota kind. Second, turns out that break light problem? The bulbs were burnt out, so I paid like $20 to have them replaced and all was well. So, next time can you guys try to take me from behind can you at least take me to the Taco Bell down the road first? Thanks. read more

K & M actually deserve a 15 star review - or at least (3) x 5 star reviews for their service. Here's my epic saga and how K & M got my car in working order again. CHAPTER ONE On top of the fuel light pinging on that morning, Monday of Christmas week my car just wouldn't start when I went out to lunch. It cranked over but didn't catch. I knew it isn't the starter motor, because my old car had that go out I had just put in a new battery, so not that I gave it a little more gas out of a can, and still no luck I friend gives an armchair mechanical diagnosis of a clogged fuel filter. Clearly it's time for the professionals I call K & M to see if they can get my car in for diagnostics and repair. Jacquie at K & M was very personable and patient, as this somehow required multiple calls on my part to arrange for the tow and an after hours drop-off because traffic was so bad. Jacquie called mid-morning Tuesday with the diagnosis of a bad fuel pump. They could have it ready for me by Wednesday, Christmas Eve. A gave the go ahead for the work, and they called on Christmas Eve with the car completed on schedule and under the quoted amount. I was out of town for the holiday but they are able to take a text confirmation to run the charge, making that very convenient as well. After Christmas, I picked up my car from their lot. Success! What great service: 5 Star Review CHAPTER TWO When I fill up my gas tank, the fuel gauge reads 2 ticks over 1/2. I call up K & M. They said it can happen that a fuel pump has a bad float assembly and that they'll order a new one. I made an appointment for the following Wednesday. When I arrived they were courteous and my car was ready right at their estimated time. They gave me the key and said thank you. Success! No hassle parts & service warranty: 5 Star Review CHAPTER THREE I filled up at the nearest gas station--and it read at 2 ticks over 1/2. Wah-wah. I drove the few blocks back to K & M. They brought out a very knowledgeable tech/mechanic and he explained that there must be some configuration in the fuel tank that is blocking the float from rising to the top. They look online and find another mfg's part that was shaped different and ordered that one, and got me on the schedule again for the next Wednesday. So I did a little internet research when I got home. Apparently many Dodge Calibers have had issues with their fuel gauges, and really I was lucky that it had operated properly, ever. I found the MOPAR/Dodge diagram of the pump assembly, and I emailed it to the Contact Us on their website. Jacquie replied within the hour, saying that looked like the part they had ordered the last 2 times. Jacquie then called on Friday to let me know that the new part assembly had arrived and was indeed shaped different than the incorrect float assembly. When I dropped the car off on Wednesday morning, they said that it would be ready in an hour and it was as promised. WONDERFUL service. very honest, very straight forward, this place is NOT looking to take you for a ride for all your worth on labor and parts. i am your typical naive female that owns a car and knows nothing about it. i recognize this and as a result am very wary of mechanics taking advantage of my lack of knowledge and wallet as a result. Matt is wonderful, friendly, helpful. A friend of mine found this place trying to fix her Volkswagen. The car was clearly on its last legs (clearly to any mechanic anyways...) and matt insisted that he didn't want to keep putin parts and her money into the car because it was going to be fruitless. Long story short he helped her out tremendously when he could have just taken advantage of the situation. I brought my car in today as i recently hit 150k and jiffy lube told me my serpentine belt was looking shabby when i went in for an oil change. They did a once over on my car, told me all the things i SHOULD do to extend its life, but there was absolutely no pressure for me to commit to any of it. Jiffy Lube is known for its fear mongering method of upgrading services and my experience at K & M was the complete opposite. I feel entirely confident that they will not take advantage of me and do a great job at the same time. They fit me in immediately and even gave me a car for no charge to get around with until they are done. That just floored me! They made it so easy, and so pleasant. A friend swears by this shop and takes her vehicle there exclusively, so I thought I'd give them a try. From beginning to end I had a stellar experience and here's why: -They were friendly and easy to deal with on the phone. -They got my van in the next day. -They GAVE me a loaner car!!! (I'm still in shock over this...it made vehicle repair and maintenance so much less painful to NOT be out of a vehicle!) -The work they did was comparable in price to the quote I got from Firestone for the same work. -They followed up with a thank you card, a car wash coupon, and a phone call. I hate Jiffy Lube. I feel like even though the prices are cheap as hell your car will be more broken then fixed after you see them. Regardless I came in to get a bunch of things looked at on my Honda CRV. Team was really friendly and I broke up all the work into two parts. I lagged on the second and got lucky, they sent me a coupon if I brought it in before summer for 20% off. A few things. Don't go on a Monday or Friday. The times I went on those days it was insane. Keep in mind the prices are probably higher than others but... the staff is courteous and friendly, and at the end of the day sometimes that's all you really need. read more

Just returned from an oil change and a diagnostic check on my Honda, as well as a potential alignment due to a small incident during the snow storm. The dealership had convinced me that my timing belt needed to be replaced (at only 75k mind you) and that ALL my fluids were in need of a flush, leaving me with almost $500 in potential costs. I know nothing about cars but thought that the information they gave me seemed strange and opted to get a second opinion. My mother-in-law goes to the other K & M regularly and they were highly recommended. Needless to say, the timing belt was FINE and only my transmission fluid was approaching the need for a flush. They also put the front tire on the back to help with the wobbly-ness since it didn't actually NEED an alignment and they didn't charge me for it AT ALL. They could've easily told me I needed an alignment and I would've completely believed it and shelled out the necessary money. I appreciate that they were honest and understanding of my situation. 1st time customer, now a customer for life. Been unhappily going to Jiffy Lube for years, always felt like they took advantage of my lack of knowledge when it came to my vehicle. Very happy with my service at K&M! They were kind and efficient. My car was thoroughly inspected (as it had been parked for long periods months prior) when I brought it in for an oil change. I was given a sheet that detailed things that needed attention in the future, complete with estimates. I even thought it was possibly time for a tune up (which they found to be unnecessary). Bottom line, I didn't feel hassled or pressured to have unnecessary things done. My service was relatively quick and even for a synthetic oil change, I felt I walked out spending less than I would have at the "other" place. Thanks, K&M! K & M auto service is my go to shop for all my car needs. They always go above and beyond the call of duty to get me back on the road as soon as possible. They recently needed to order a part and it wasn't going to arrive until the next day and I said that I work for Lyft and I need my car to make money so waiting that next day would cost me. They drove out to Gresham to get the part so that I could have it done in 1 day rather than 2. Jacquie always has all the answers to all my questions about what's what and the mechanics always do a great job. I am so glad that I am within walking distance of this shop because it makes it so easy for me to drop it off and pick it up. But if they were further I would still go to them. Why is it so hard to find a good mechanic? I can explain problems in communication, but my main issue is that I paid for a diagnostic on an oil leak, and they supposedly did a several point inspection, but gave the green light on some major glaring issues with my car! My shocks and struts obviously need to be replaced, and there is a leak in my muffler. Every shop has told me this. (And the shocks/struts are easily inspected by an amateur.) But this shop gave them a green light. Their online reports are nice, but they are so automated they don't actually communicate accurately what is needed. A good mechanic should do more than print out computer codes. I want good diagnostics and advice and am willing to pay more for it. read more

I've been a regular customer here for several years. They have been great at letting me know about problems to look for down the road, upfront about costs, and flexible. The single thing I have trouble with is the cost. They are a bit pricier than most shops. In turn, you get what you pay for. A while back I had a fuel pump replaced in my vehicle. It was around $500. I'm sure if I went to a lesser shop I'd of saved $50-$75, but, I wouldn't have had the confidence in knowing the work was done right the first time. That piece of mind is priceless.
