I have patronized many auto repair shops and mechanics in my life, and this one is by far the best! A dazzling gem in a sea of auto shops in Portland. This review is based on being a customer for over 8 years and having 4 different vehicles serviced at this shop. Customer service is amazing and the sales reps never pressure you in any way. They are honest, thorough and speak in lay terms for people (like me) who don't really know a lot about cars. Prices are fair and I love that you can schedule all appointments online. They allow you the option to drop your car off or wait for it... although the space for waiting is small. If you request it, they will order you a taxi ride to another destination in a certain radius from the shop. If you are looking for quality, honest repair work, then this is the place! Yesterday, I experienced really poor customer service from Dan at Everett Street Autoworks. I dropped off my car at 7am, first car in. - By 11:30, I hadn't heard anything so I called to check on status. Dan said he'd call me back in 30 minutes to an hour. - So when 90 minutes passed, at 1pm, I called again. Dan was out for lunch, and he'd call back in 15 minutes. When he called back, there was no update. The technician hadn't performed an inspection, even though by now my car has been at the shop for 6 hours. Dan said he'd call back in 30-40 minutes. - Another hour goes by. I finally get a quote on the work at 2pm, meaning my car has been there for seven hours now. No maintenance or repairs have started. - When I dropped off my car, I reported issues with my brakes and Dan said the shop couldn't identify any issue with the brake pad or fluids so he didn't really know what else to check. He also said unfortunately they get really numb to these things. Which means what? Isn't that dangerous if a car shop gets numb to detecting issues reported by their customers? - I asked if he could ask the technician if he had any ideas to diagnose the brake issue. Dan agreed and said he'd call me back. - I didn't hear back from Dan and I had to call him back two hours later at 4pm for an update. Over the last 9 hours, I've had to call the shop five times just for an update since a call back was not provided. - Dan forgot to touch base with the technician for ideas on how to diagnose the brake issues. So thirty minutes later at 4:30 he called me back saying they have no idea whats going on. The brake pads look brand new. - He made a slight joke about maybe someone replaced your brakes in the middle of the night. It was completely obtuse to make a joke for how he's been treating me. - Then he said he checked the carfax report on the car indicating the brakes have been replaced in 2024. They werent replaced at that time. Even if they had, they're still not working. So why spend the time to look at a carfax report and imply that I'm what ... making this up! - Then he tells me the shop is really trying to get everything done today. Well, I dropped the car off at 7. And I called 5 times just to check on status. There was no major repair to warrant it not being done on time.When I told him I need to know by 5pm to book an uber. He offered for the shop to cover the cost of a Lyft. I felt so disrespected throughout the day, and more disrespected that $15 Lyft ride would buy back my respect? - Finally when I picked up my car, the person who checked me out (sounded an awful lot like Dan) didn't introduce themselves, walk me through my invoice or talk through the service warranty. I walked through the invoice myself. I had to ask about the warranty. It was a very cold exchange after a day of really poor customer service and dropping $800+ for repairs and service. So happy I found Everett Street Autoworks! They provide excellent service at fair prices and the experience from beginning to end was superb! They are now my go to for all car servicing. After 11 years of bringing my Smart car to Mercedes, the dealer who performs great service but at high markups, I did a search to see if there were options. Years ago, Mercedes was the only choice but now there are several. Needing an alignment after getting 4 new all weather tires at Les Schwab whose lift was too big for my tiny Smart, Everett Street confirmed that they had a smaller lift that works for Smart cars. Although very busy, they handle about 40 cars a day, they were able to get me in five days later. I dropped the car off at 8am and they ordered a Lyft ride to take me home. And another Lyft to bring me back when the car was ready. So convenient! Even though I was there for an alignment, they did a free inspection to see if any other service was required at this time, which there wasn't. I really appreciated their thoroughness and honesty. The car has about 8k miles to go before the next service and I will definitely come back to Everett Street Auto for the work. In fact, while I was there I set up a service for my Mazda CX3. I used to take it to the Mazda dealer out in Gladstone but there is no need to spend the money on gas, drive 30 minutes each way or pay the higher prices when Everett Street gets it all done right here, downtown, for less. Everyone who works at Everett Street was friendly and helpful - the people on the phone to set up appointment, those taking down info when I dropped off car, the person who called to status me and the guy who brought my car out to the front of the shop. Everyone had a smile and was professional. I will say their location is in a part of town that is overwhelmed by tents and crime but I wasn't concerned. I pulled right in, the Lyft picked me up at the door, and my car was brought steps from the door. It was totally safe. Highly recommend! read more

Brought my car here because of all the positive reviews and my brakes were squeaking loudly. They told me over the phone it would be a free inspection. After they inspected, they told me my calipers were seized and quoted me over $800 to fix it in addition to $1800 in other optional fixes for things I didn't ask them to service. I decided to take it for a second opinion, and when I came to pick it up, they tried to charge me $65 for something called a racking fee. I said, I was told the inspection would be free, and they said, ok we'll waive the racking fee. What's the difference between a racking fee and an inspection? So I took my car to 2 other shops. Both said my calipers were in fact not seized and my brakes actually had a lot of life left in them, but just happened to be squeaking. I could replace the pads but it was not a safety issue and it would cost $375. So what's the deal with Everett? The whole interaction felt exploitative and fishy. read more

Was recommended to take my car here by my trusted regular mechanic when thieves hacked my security system pretty severely and it had to be extensively reprogrammed. They did a great job diagnosing the problem and ensuring the repair would be both thorough and affordable. They charged a reasonable price, and then handled all the details of transferring my car on to the next destination where it was scheduled for some of the other complicated repairs. When my 2013 Kia Soul threatened to strand me in the SW Hills, with some funky problems, i.e., not starting well, not shifting smoothly or accelerating easily, and the tachometer wasn't moving - I searched the internet for a recommended mechanic. This was it! Keven, who answered the phone, was very pleasant and offered to schedule me about 1 1/2 week out for service. When I mentioned I'm getting ready for back surgery and was scared my car might strand me somewhere - he offered for me to drop my car off that night, and they'd try to fit it in over the next two days. This place is downtown, not far from where I work, so I dropped it off and found my way home. The following day I received a call, and we told they couldn't replicate the problem, but that I could opt to replace the part they suspected was failing or drive the car away. This was 1pm and I opted to have it repaired. I received a call around 3:30 that the car was ready to be picked up! And the cost wasn't outrageous. Being a new resident and not yet familiar with her surroundings she needed to find a honorable and fair auto repair shop for any work, routine oil changes etc etc for her vehicle. This place is great! I've always felt like I'm getting an honest and straight forward answer from them. I had my previous car serviced here a number of times and left each time feeling pleased. I have a baseline knowledge of car repair and can do a number of things by myself but as a single female I appreciate having a place where I don't feel as though I'm getting screwed over. About two years ago, I had a new battery put in on my old car here and it died a few months later, we called and they exchanged it, no problem and no questions asked. They were happy to do it and got us right in. Today I dropped off an old van I just acquired to have it looked out as there were a number of things I could tell were wrong. The end result was it needed a lot of work, like well beyond what it's probably valued at and they honestly told me that while they like making money, they could not justify suggesting I should get it fixed - which I appreciated. They didn't charge for the safety check and even topped off the oil for me. They are always friendly and helpful. I'd guess they might be a bit more expensive than an automotive shop outside of town (can't say for sure, just a guess based on location) but they're worth it. They also provide Lyft rides to get you to work/home after dropping off your car and to bring you back - so much easier than finding a ride or taking Trimet (even though it's right on max and bus lines!) read more

I've used ESA for a few years now, mostly for oil changes and minor repairs. However, my alternator recently died and ESA came in with a very reasonable price quote for the work so I took my car to them. Unfortunately, they installed a bad alternator on a Friday so they had to keep the car through Monday. However, they offered to rent me a car for the weekend at a nearby Dollar, which was really kind and honorable. They are forthright, the shop is clean and the staff is pleasant. Disappointed that for the SECOND time now this place has forgotten to reset the maintenance required oil change light in my car. How do I know this? Because it shouldn't even be going off before my next scheduled change given the light (when reset) goes off every 5k and I change my oil every 3k. So the fact it's appearing now means it didn't get reset (again). The first time this happened I thought it was a simple mistake and they offered a free (or some cannot recall how many) oil change. But the fact this happened again makes me wonder if any services are actually happening and what QA protocols are being used. This has been our first choice for car repairs for several years. We have had work done on our aging Mazda and also just taken it in to have a free estimate when we think something is wrong. Always have had excellent service and accurate problem solving with this shop and treated the same whether we get the services done at the shop or choose to hold off and take the car home. Those location is great for people who work weekdays. Easy to drive car down in the morning and take public transit or walk to work, just need to pick up car by 6 if you want it back the same day. I've taken my vehicle to Everett on three occasions. I trust them with my vehicle and their prices are fair. Recently they fixed an exhaust related issue and an oil leak and I was very pleased with the service. Driving to PDX for a car repair is not convenient for me, but when my vehicle needs more than just tires and brakes it's well worth the trip. I know that they won't come up with a long list of repairs that I do not need and they will properly assess the problem and get to the root of it. I honestly cannot say enough good things about these guys! They are my go to auto mechanic and for good reason. The two times I had to take my Toyota to the dealer in Beaverton (one was a recall notice and the other was an engine light on) it was due to items that could not be taken care of at Everett. The first time the dealer broke something on my car while doing the repair, blamed what they said was rust on the bottom of my car, and then made me pay for it. I had already taken my inherited vehicle to Everett once before and twice after and they've never broken anything on my car. The second time I had to go for the recall notice, they tried to tell me I needed more than $1800 dollars in repairs. One repair in particular was supposed to be more than $1000. I took it back into Everett, who tested my car thoroughly and couldn't see any need for the $1000 repair (which matched with my experience with the car as well - it didn't make sense that the item they were saying needed fixing needed fixing). They also saved me almost $500 on the repairs that did need fixing. So all told, on this single instance, Everett saved me more than $1500 total in repairs. They always keep my car in great condition, are easy to work with, are honest in their dealings, and make me really happy! I know they may be located in an inconvenient spot for you, but trust me, it's well worth traveling the distance for the excellent service you will get! read more

This was absolutely the best experience I've ever had when dealing with car difficulties. I came in to get my tires replaced after far too long and hoped that would fix some other issue I was having. They checked out my car while it was in the shop and found some other issues that I would have had no idea about without their help. When it came to quoting prices I was shocked when the total for the tires plus fixing the other problems was actually less than I'd assumed just getting the tires would be. 4/18/21 It's been a little over a week since ESA replaced the AC compressor in our Highlander. Yesterday, my husband and I both noticed a strange rattling noise and when we looked under the hood, we discovered the radiator was not properly secured. 4/19/21 ESA called to follow up with us re: this issue and explained that what we thought was an issue with the radiator was not. I been noticing my car has been pulling to the left, even with the steering wheel straight. I was also planning to get new tires so I had to make plans for alignment because the tire shop did not do them themselves. Did a quick yelp search, sent a business inquiry to multiple places and these guys responded back really fast and quoted me. Made an appointment because I thought the price was fair. Drove up to the garage door, checked in with (cole?) and handed off my keys and I left to walk around town as I was told it was going to be 2 hours. 1.5 hours later I got a call that my car was ready. Came back and spoke with (cole?). He handed me my paperwork, cashed me out and walked me to a second garage where my car was stored. Told me I wasn't going crazy because my car was out alignment. He removed the car seat cover and floor cover, disinfected the steering wheel, shift knob and door handle. I hopped in and I was on my merry way. Professional, quick and fair pricing. The guy who checked us out was incredibly rude. We specifically told them not to do anything but let us know what the problem was with the air conditioning in our car. They said all they had to do was recharge the Freon. THEN they called us and said oh the problems not fixed it's actually a broken air conditioner compressor. The part cost $461 on multiple places to purchase but they quoted us $2100. When they realized they did a service that did not fix the AC problem they BACK TRACKED and said oh all we said is that it is a diagnostic and insinuating that we were stupid and just didn't understand what we were agreeing to. YEA SURE lol. If someone told me it was $189 for a diagnostic i would have passed and had someone else check it out because i was strictly there for an oil change. He ended up refunding half of the service fee but the point is, he sat there and lied to us saying that they all told us, but they were out to scam us. He was so disgusting how he handled the situation and he kept saying "i have worked here 10 years so we always tell people it's just a diagnostic" Be professional and transparent, definitely not ever coming back here. 7 Apr 2023 had serpentine belt done. Took from 7A-4P as they diagnosed hybrid codes(?)! Today 14 May 2023 I went under my hood to view Mass Air Flow sensor (found an extra one under my sink last night). The hose to the airflow was unscrewed at the clamp and completely out. My air filter dirty of course when one month ago was clean. I will have to look at the sensor (cost $400 to replace). Forgotten is not forgivable. These are professionals. Justin at the counter was very polite and listened attentively as I expressed my concerns and goals for servicing my sweet little daily driver. The mechanics performed an 'All-over, Once-over' inspection of the cars mechanicals and found it needing nothing repaired or replaced at this time. They did not try to rip me off for unnecessary parts or labor; a nominal inspection fee and I was out the door. While I waited I witnessed the professionalism of Justin and the other service reps and techs and came away highly impressed with the professionalism of the whole crew. I drive over an hour to come to Everett Street Autoworks because they are reliable, honest, and flat out the best. Recently I took my '93 GMC truck to another (closer) mechanic and they quoted me $2800 worth of repairs. Limped it over to ESA and they diagnosed the issue as a timing belt...$160 and the truck is running great. Lesson learned - it's worth the drive to Everett. read more

I've been taking my 2002 BMW 3 series to Everett for I think about 5 years now and I can't tell you how important it is to have a mechanic I trust with this old car, its expensive repair needs, and my tight budget!! At first I was a little put off by the fact that the people you talk to aren't necessarily the same people who actually work on your car, because in the past I've always gone to smaller shops where it's just one or two people doing everything. But I quickly figured out that with Everett's bigger volume, they've developed a system that keeps both the mechanical work and the customer communication working smoothly. Over the years I've been going there, Everett has been great about helping me manage my ongoing list of recommended repairs, and I absolutely trust them to help me decide which ones are urgent priorities and which ones I can work into my budget later. I recently had a breakdown on a rainy Saturday evening on a long weekend, and was in a bit of a panic. I didn't feel comfortable doing an after hours drop off because my car would be parked on the street and I wasn't sure when Everett would be open. So I got towed to a nearby family member's home and sent an email to the after-hours email address. I got an email back from Jake (the owner) within half an hour! They got me in first thing Monday morning and Cole was on the phone with me within a couple hours, talking through the issue with me, calming my nerves a little (because I was fearing the worst and not ready to be without a drivable car right now), and making a plan. I got the car back at the end of the day, fixed up and ready to drive with a bill I could handle and a plan for some follow up repairs in a couple of months. Everyone I've worked with there has been friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to explain technical issues to me thoroughly and patiently, without overwhelming me with unnecessary detail. I'm not really a car person or mechanically inclined at all, and as a woman, I haven't always had good experiences communicating with people about cars -- I've experienced everything from slight condescension to manipulation and deception, to outright blatant sexism. I'm sure a lot of women can relate to this. So the great communication with Everett is much appreciated. They make sure my car was sanitized completely before I leave. Second time I went for brake pads. I did not actually get work done when I visited, but wanted to shout out their integrity! Took my Subaru in for a transmission flush, but they found a rare issue with the valve body they couldn't fix. They referred me to a specialty shop, but also remembered an unannounced warranty extension from Subaru that applied to my repair. They then did not flush the transmission, as it would need to be flushed again for the repair anyway, to save me the cost. They gave me a printed breakdown also of all other work my car needed with costs of parts and labor, which were all reasonable and less than I'd seen in chain auto shops. The obscure warranty ended up being active for my car, and Subaru replaced the whole valve body for free, saving me hundreds of dollars. I love integrity in an auto shop because I can trust their quotes are fair and necessary. Will be returning soon for those routine repairs! read more

An extra star because they were nice. As far as actual diagnosis and repair goes, the experience was not good. I took the car there because of the good reviews. My car was having a hard time starting in overnight cold weather. They changed the spark plugs for about $300. Couple of days later I had the same problem. This tine they changed the air mass sensor for another $300. Few days later my car wouldn't start in in the middle of no where Washington. Somehow I got the car back to them. They said it was a computer issue. I had to start a job in Virginia so I left without fixing the problem. The car finally gave up in Reno, Nevada...The shop I took it to in Reno told me that the issue was with engine compression and I need to replace the engine. I had to leave my car in Nevada and fly to Virginia. All in all, for a reputed auto repair company to botch diagnosis and repair twice is beyond me. read more
