I love these guys. Boyfriend and I have just taken our (ford) truck here for the second time... Both times we've needed to take the truck in, it's been urgent, and they've always been super helpful in accommodating us. They are kind, honest, and work hard to get things done in a timely manner. The first time we were there, we had a busted timing belt (among other things) and got the truck back the next day. I was impressed. Yes it cost a lot of money (for me), but the mechanics in the family who live out of state assured us that we were getting a fair ("great," actually) deal. This morning we had to take the truck in because some fu*ker DRILLED A HOLE in the gas tank, beneath the truck. Nice. I thought it was going to be a small fortune to replace the thing, but they were able to find a used part and call us back with a surprisingly low estimate within an hour. It will probably be ready tomorrow. yay! Seriously, these guys are great. The shop isn't fancy. It's dirty and greasy and there's clipboards with paperwork all over the counter in the office, but these guys are professionals. Take your car here if you are looking for an honest neighborhood mechanic. Oh- and stay vigilant, peeps. Drilling gas tanks seems like a new low. And the guys at Burnside Auto Repair said they've seen a few of these lately. Sad. read more

I woke up to my back door being completely jammed and my battery drained from the open door light. I went to a shop close by at first and they said it would be 150 just to diagnose and i'd have to leave it for at least 2 days. Something felt off about that so I called burnside auto repair for a second opinion, and they said they could fit me in. Took a look at it and fixed it within 5 minutes, explained to me how it happened, prevented it from happening again, and didn't charge me a dime. Seriously the best place I've ever been to. Body Control Module failed on our 2002 Buick Rendezvous. I had been able to reset it 4-5 times over a 2 year period having done research on methods. Short version. After my brake man unhooked the battery to replace the oil pressure sensor the BCM permanently cooked. All it takes is one solder piece on one of the 2 flow soldered boards within this $189 AC Delco henco en Mexico BCM. Another short version of a long story. Suffice to say said cooked solder piece can be fixed if you can see and don't shake. GEORGE; owner of Burnside Auto Repair is an honest and fair proprietor who also has integrity. I paid a fair price for a real pain in the backside job. To see what I mean go to You Tube. I have no reservations whatsoever about taking the Buick to George in the future. The last thing anyone should do is take their car no longer under warranty to a dealership. One PDX area dealership wanted to charge me $331 for the $189 BCM. BTW- "Just Answer.com" provided a Buick/GM expert who charged $24 to confirm what I already knew. The expert did provide the flat rate manual labor for r&r of the BCM at 1 1/2 hours. The Buick expert had the exact same problem happened to him and it only cost him around $500. BUT HE DOESN'T LIVE IN PORTLAND. We have to consider George's rent and property taxes when it comes to keeping the doors open. read more

My car broke down during my move, and George's shop was too busy, so I had it towed to another place nearby, Green Drop Garage-- (don't go!) --couldn't figure out what was wrong with my car after the $133 in diagnostics, and told me that it was probably the computer or a serious wiring problem that would cost me over $1000 to get fixed, I took it to Burnside Auto Repair for a second opinion. George charged me $90 to diagnose it, figured out that sensor needed replacing, and the entire cost is $300. Besides being an excellent mechanic, George is respectful, kind, fair, and 100% non-hipster-snarky! He helps you figure out what money to put in, what money to save. Oh, and and he saved me from trashing my car! This shop is busy because they're fantastic. Not only is George an excellent mechanic, he's an excellent human that will give you hope about mechanics and about businesses! read more

I purchased an older vehicle with low miles, knowing that the previous owner had not driven regularly. I asked for a thorough diagnostic, which was completed in a timely fashion. The mechanic and I sorted through the list and identified the items absolutely required, and those that could wait. They were fine not completing all of the items, and made clear those that must be done to ensure a safe vehicle. Repairs and overdue maintenance done in a day without any hitches. We have used Burnside Auto for two vehicles for the last five years. They have always met and exceeded our expectations. The prices are fair and accurate. As one example of how far they go to help, just yesterday George was helping me troubleshoot some road noise. He helped on a Saturday when the shop is normally closed. He drove around with me on his own time so we could try to identify the noise. As another example, a couple years ago our car broke down up the Columbia Gorge on a weekend. We had it towed to Burnside Auto and they stayed open on the weekend to receive the car and they got it fixed very quickly. Totally saved us a lot of hassle with service above and beyond. I don't think I have ever received such consistently fine service and friendly help from any shop over the decades I have had to have cars serviced in the different states I lived in. Five years ago someone recommended Burnside Auto to me and I wholeheartedly recommend them to others. read more

I seriously question the previous ratings because my experience with George was horrible. He was rude and unprofessional during the first phone call but because he came highly recommended I decided to proceed anyway. Our later interactions showed hints of blatant racism. He mentioned that I could drop off my vehicle at 7:30AM and after waiting for an hour nobody showed up. I called later that day to reschedule and he started swearing and yelling that I lost my chance. Definitely dodged a bullet here. read more
