Our experience with the organization has always been friendly and professional. They were very concerned about the safety of the puppies and, as we had been volunteers with them, they allowed us to foster for longer than four weeks to help the puppies trust people again. From that time on, we have fostered on and off for more than 12 years at least. I'm so grateful for this organization and how they care for the animals that Somehow end up at the Humane Society through no fault of their own.

I think that the potential for them to be good is lost in internecine battles. I was let loose as a foster which means that I was on the losing end. I fostered from August of 2025 until now, January 2026. I don't know why - I got a phone call on a shoddy cell from 'Kim' and I was expecting it. I *think* I'm going to be adopting a cat with colon cancer. But, I asked too many questions. What i experienced with SHS was this: The charity extends. And then it doesn't. I fostered a high maintenance cat. I'm still not sure if we'll see him again or not. But, according to the call from Kim (that I couldn't hear very well), this is all about some 'lab tests.' As a foster, I am giving my time, my love and my patience. If that's not appreciated, I'm glad that my SHS account page is no longer there. My major concern is for this cat. I have no idea if we'll see him again and, well, I think we need that cat, 'Zoe' but we call him 'Simon.' again. Hey, it's what it is. If SHS faults me, I've got tons of emails and texts that prove otherwise. But, right now, I am really wondering about Simon. So, my star value for Spokane Humane Society is based on one thing - it's about the animals. My experience indicates that this is NOT about the animals with SHS but they can always hire posters to refute me. So, you guys get a 1 from me. Honestly, if I could've given you a negative number, that would have been it. This is not about the ego of a foster coordinator. It's about the animals. Get a clue.

Got my male dog neutered yesterday. Everything went as planned, they told me specifics to my pet,…read moreand even trimmed his nails. He has a severe skin allergy that was flaring up, and they took the time to make sure I knew about it(which I did) and wanted to make sure I knew how to care for his flare up. At the end of the day, the service was extremely fair priced, they went out of their way to make sure my boy was taken care of, and were so good with him.

They literally just looked at him and said "Oh it's mating season that's why he peed on your bed" I trusted them and took him home, happy knowing he was okay. Within a matter of 24 hours things took a turn for the worst. He wasn't eating, playing, or using his litter box. I decided that I was going to take him to the ER, but I was too late, my best friend was gone. When I took him to get cremated, they told me he had FELV and a Urethra blockage and that's why he passed. If Dr. Kim Tanguay, DVM took my concerns seriously instead of saying it was mating season and actually checked him and did a urinanalysis. my best friend would be alive right now. Instead they didn't because they only cared about the money they were losing since they couldn't charge me. This place is lazy and incompetent and if you love your animal friends DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE. My heart is broken every day.

All of our pets have been loved and treated like family. Went to fill out paperwork for adopting a cat, but they wouldn't let us have one as we would let it outside. Really? Our cat cat goes outside, roams the fenced backyard, does her outside business and comes back. They wouldn't let us adopt because we already have an indoor/outdoor cat? When we went to their space on Trent, it seemed as if most of their cats had "kitty colds" and were told it was going around the facility. I commend the idea of animal foster parents, but they seem a bit rigid. They didn't even try to get to know us. Good job driving away responsible owners. Good luck to all the future cat ladies.

They euthanize animals and blatantly lie about where donations go. If you sponsor an animal they'll…read moretell you the money goes to that animal. It doesn't. And if an animal is cute and draws lots of sponsors they won't tell the donors when it gets adopted. They'll milk that puppy or kitten for all it's worth, never telling anyone it's been adopted for the last year. They avoid taking animals to the vet for necessary things, even if the animal is in pain. They don't like to spend money on the animals. And I've personally seen them leave the vaccines on top of the refrigerator all day long and then go ahead and use them. (Once the vaccines reach room temperature they are no longer effective. They MUST be kept refrigerated.) And volunteers steal microchips and vaccines for their own pets. All around a dishonest, unethical group.

I told the new vet this and after telling her the symptoms and she required a $1,500 deposit for exam and "possible lifesaving measures" and they would refund the rest upon pickup. When I got there, they did X-rays which I told the receptionist we did not want, just blood and urine tests. They ended up doing $1,800 of care which me or my boyfriend did not authorize. He authorized urine, blood, oxygen and fluids. After this experience I immediately went to Indian trail animal hospital, they looked at her, looked at the work done at Spokane Cat Clinic and listened to me, gave her antibiotics and she is perfectly healthy. If this vet actually listened to me (I never actually met her only the vet tech came out and only the vet techs / reception called me) my cat could have been feeling better faster and I would've saved over $1,000. I emailed them about this and they suggested they will discontinue us as a patient there and we would get better care elsewhere. Yeah they were right, I did that right away. Should've went to my home vet, Indian trail animal hospital, first.

They did apologize and we were finally seen after an hour and twenty minutes. We showed up for the next and last vaccine appointment and they said that we missed our appointment earlier in the morning. I had an appointment written down by them and they were wrong. They did add us to the schedule. After 25 minutes, I asked if we were now having to wait because they got the time wrong... they said it would be 5-10 minutes. It has now been another 15 minutes. We will see how much longer it will be. No pets were in the building waiting room for the entire time we were waiting until this last 5 minutes. Poor communication, poor computer system, and very little apologizing for anything. I DO NOT recommend due to the disorganization and lack of communication.

We have been following this Dachshund Rescue for at least a year now because we do want to adopt a…read moredoxie as a companion for our current 9 yr. old , long hair doxie. What we have come to know about Dachshund Rescue NW is that they have placed over 2,000 doxies in loving homes. Margo Mossberg is the Director and treats each and every dog as if they were her personal dogs. Before a person that wants to adopt a dog from her Rescue, the applicant must complete an application. When she takes them in she spends time with each dog to determine their demeanor, mental and physical health. She also takes the dog to the vet to have them spayed or neutered, oral exam, update on their vacations and discusses any issues the dog may have. If the dog needs to be treated, it comes out of the money from people who have previously adopted from her. She is very knowledgeable about dachshunds in that she makes it clear that this breed does bark. So if you live in a condo, townhouse or apt., she will let you know that this is not the breed for you. We met Margo this past Saturday at the St. Patrick's Day parade in Spokane. We were very impressed by all of the people that attended the parade to show their support for this Rescue and to see the dogs that they have adopted from this Rescue. We were able to talk to them about their experience in adopting their wiener dogs, and because of our conversations it reinforced our desire to possibly adopt another dachshund from Margo and her organization. We too, have a dog left from an older family member that needs a loving home with an older person. Since the dog needed her teeth cleaned, she was rejected from receiving help to find a forever home.
