I adopted a terrier from them, asked hole brunch of questions about the dog which I should of been informed that he wasn't potty trained then but instead didn't find out until a week later that oh he doesn't have UTI his not potty trained, I'm sorry at 2 years old a dog needs to be potty trained and professionals of a vet clinic need to be on the ball to tell the adopters what animal isn't potty trained! These people are very unprofessional. I took my adult cat in for claw trim today and caught them scuffing her by the neck!! Her whole body was hanging loose while another woman threw a towel over her head trying to trim her. My cat weighs 15 pounds needles to say she was very upset and in pain. Julia's Jungle adopted us a DYING KITTEN then a week later, upon DIAGNOSIS OF CANCER, said we'd have to pay them a surrender fee to take him back. My son's care team recommended he get an emotional support animal so we began looking and he adopted a five month old kitten from Julia's Jungle. Just over a week later, after two calls requesting the Dr. see him and being told once it was unnecessary (we were prescribed meds and asked to pick them up without an exam) and once that it would be another four days before he'd be seen, HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LYMPHOMA at the emergency animal clinic where we took him because he was so obviously sick and getting worse. The Dr. said every lymph node in his body is swollen, lymphocytes are near 20,000, he never should have been released for adoption, likely only has a couple months to live, and she advised us to take him back to the shelter. I called Julia's to tell them what the vet said and the woman on the phone quickly said, "If you bring him back you'll need to pay a $25 surrender fee." I was shocked at the uncaring way she spoke, she didn't ask about the kitten or my son, absolutely NO compassion, NO empathy, NO apology. I asked her if she was seriously telling me we paid $100 to adopt a kitten that's dying, paid his emergency vet bills, and now the only thing she has to say is we need to pay them more money if we bring him back? Her answer was simply, "That's our policy" and the best line of all, "You waited too long." Eight days which included two requests and two denials for the Dr. to see him. When I asked for the manager's name she said they don't talk to customers on the phone and I could come in at 7:30am to speak to someone. I won't say don't adopt here, I understand things can be missed and his poor health was likely, at least in part, incorrectly attributed to an upper respiratory infection circulating in the kennels, but I will say the way they handled the situation, the complete lack of caring and compassion, is absolutely unacceptable. We didn't change our mind or decide he wasn't a good fit for my son, THEY ADOPTED OUT A SICK AND DYING ANIMAL and it was never about the money. I didn't demand the adoption fee back or even mention money, we hadn't even decided what to do when just days after Christmas we learned the kitten my son fell in love with was dying. We didn't take the kitten back, we're getting him stabilizing medical treatment, we'll love him, and give him the very best life we can during the time he has left, and we'll hopefully be able to arrange home euthanization when the time comes. But I hope the business owner reads this review and coaches their employees about how to handle these difficult circumstances so no one is ever again treated with such a lack of compassion and in such an heartless, uncaring way. For all their talk of our animals are family, if you can't keep them for any reason they need to come back here, etc., their actions say they're more interested in collecting $25 than caring about the life of an innocent kitten or the emotional wreckage my son is now enduring. read more

I have been a customer at Mountain Empire Vets for over 20 years and have used Julia's Jungle many times. This last time I have had enough of feeling dismissed and my dog miss used. Most recently, I brought my dog, a yorkie into be groomed. She was there for over 6 hours. When I arrived, I was told that they "didn't have time to groom her" and only could trim her nails and bathe her. 6 hours!! 6 hours she was in a cage and they didn't have time. Who does this? My second and final disappointment was when my dog was sick and dying and they wanted me to just leave her in a cage till the vet could get to her. 20 years and still they do not leave time for loyal customers in times of emergency to help out their dying dog. Over the last 20 years I have seen this business just become a business and move animals though like product. I am now in need of a new veterinarian who continues to have a love and passion for animals and treats their clients as concerned pet owners than just a money machine. read more

Julia's said that her nail was torn out because it was too long. I trust WSU. She was seen by an instructor and a final year student. I've been on the prowl to get a kitten for 8 months now. I've been to several shelters (Boise, Moscow, Pullman, Cda) and Julia's Jungle is by far SUPREME!! The staff has a laid back environment. I was able to meet and play in the cat room for almost an hour, undisturbed, no pressure. After falling in love with one kitten in particular, I sighed thinking, "ok here comes a grueling application process..." Not the case. Not only was the adoption process pleasant, but my lil guy came microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and healthy! $75 for adoption is a heck of a deal. Here we were, home for the holidays, and everyone was petting you and then making that "who farted" face afterwards. Poor Baboo! What to do? WHAT to do?! You're not a little foofy purse dog, so no need for the $50 groomer treatment. Besides, you'd look ridiculous with little bows above your ears. Julia's Jungle was just the ticket. Self-dog wash is fantastic --- for $10 they provide a multitude of great smelling shampoos for all dog types (super dirty, sensitive skin, dry skin, etc.) and conditioners, unlimited big, fluffy towels for drying, aprons to protect washers from washees shaking off water (you know who you are!), your own dryer (no sharing with other dogs), combs and brushes, ear cleaner solution, a large washing area with a fabulous sprayer AND a complimentary bandana of your choice (we totally went with the green number covered in gold trees --- very winter festive). Oh, and they do all the clean up (and it was a big, nasty, hairy mess so that alone is worth the $10). My only wish --- a deeper washing area. The washing area was like the bottom of a shower stall without walls up on a platform about waist high (the dog walks up steps to get to it). Even with the apron, I still got a bit wet (especially my feet which were unprotected by the knee-length apron). Other than that - perfection! Julia's Jungle also offers grooming services, has a small shop with dog & cat collars and other accessories, operates an adoption center (all tips for other services go to the adoption center), and provides boarding at the vet next door. I just moved over from Seattle and loved the self-serve dog bath I went to over there. I was excited to find Julia's Jungle in the Valley. I was very impressed with the place! It was such a good deal! Only $10 and they supply everything that you may need. A wide variety of shampoo (with descriptions for each), brushes, towels, ear cleaner & cotton balls, very nice aprons and dryers. They also have a punch card (after 6 you get one FREE!) The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the stairs to get to the tub were very steep and difficult for my large dog. It would also be nice if there was a place to put my purse so I didn't have to worry about it being on the floor and possibly getting wet. Overall, a fantastic place! Never again. My kitty is staying with my mom in Spokane (for reasons beyond my control) and I had her boarded here while she came to visit me for Christmas. I do not live in Spokane. However, calling to get a reservation was easy and they were nice over the phone. Picking my cat up, however was a different story. My mother informed me that they were very rude and were in a rush to get my cat out without much words. My cat had bloody paws. I wish my mom had taken pictures, but she doesn't smartphone very well. Makes sense why they were in a rush to get my cat out of there. Once my mom got my kitty in the car, she both defecated and urinated in her carrier. Now before you say that my cat was just "stressed" from being boarded. No. There was something going on here specifically that caused her to have these issues. When I was living in Japan my work kept me in and out for a week to 45 days at a time, at which I would either board my cat or have friends stop by every other day to check on her. Not once did I have any issues with my cat. She adjusts well, and sadly is used to me leaving. HOWEVER, two months prior to being boarded at Julia's Jungle. She was boarded for a week while I packed up my house in Japan, then flew with me to Seattle where then she rode in a rental are to Spokane in October 2016. She had ZERO issues other than she wouldn't be more than 5 feet from me for the first few days. She had zero issues with using her litter box even after that big move. I try to stay as unbiased as possible, but not a single issue until she was boarded here and left with bloody paws. That was one expensive vet visit today clearing this up. I will find other places to take my kitty to if necessity dictates. read more

My Chihuahua badly needed a nail trim and we had time to burn so we found Julia's Jungle on Google Maps and gave them a call. I was very surprised that they did walk in nail trims so we stopped in. The facility smelled like dog shampoo which is to be expected. No unpleasant smells or filth. Very clean facility. An older lady did the nail trim. I told her that we would need a muzzle because my Chihuahua hates getting her nails trimmed and she will nip. The lady said we wouldn't need it. She showed me how to hold my dogs jaw so she couldn't get her head down to nip at us. Sure enough, she quickly clipped her nails safely without any fuss. She was very nice and I could tell that she had a lot of experience. I was very surprised because my vet can't do it without a struggle. The price was only $6 which is half of what I pay elsewhere. On top of that, they had my dogs favorite treats in stock. Greenies are hard to find when you live an hour away so that was a huge bonus. I don't know about their other services, but if you need a quick nail trim or need to wash your dog (they have self wash facilities) I highly recommend it. read more

One of their groomers hurt my 4.1 lb. BooPoo (toy poodle/bolognese). She didn't deserve this; my little girl was in tears. The onsite vet glued it up, but it didn't hold and a week later we had to go back. We brought her back and were told we would have to leave her without talking to the vet first and the vet would call us. I have never dropped my dog off at a vet like that before; felt like I was dropping of one of the kids at the Dr.'s office. Actually, that would have been worse, but you get my point. I would not have left the little dog if I had had a choice. Maybe I should have just gone to our regular vet. As far as the groomer, she blamed the little dog for moving around too much; not a comment to my daughter, "sorry, I hurt the little precious." or anything. The grooming fee is inexpensive ($30); next time I will pay for a more expensive service for my daughter's "pocket puppy". read more

Called and tried to schedule a grooming appointment for my dogs, the person had a dryer going on in the back and she could not hear anything I said. Do not understand why she could not go to another room or turn it off, or even have someone else answer the phone. She also constantly interrupted me with when I asked questions and that greatly frustrated me, especially since they were not even answers to my questions. So clearly I did not schedule an appointment with them! Huge turn off from their staff and management need to greatly improve their training. Can't speak to any of their services because I question their level of professionalism. read more

We have tried several places in the Spokane Valley for our Bichon Frise and have definitely found Julia's to be the place for KC! He's probably a handful for them but we consistently have a well-groomed dog. Most of my experiences here have been amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful and always makes us feel welcome. The last time I was in, however, one of the ladies was extremely rough with my dog. She clipped his toes nails while being extremely rough with him. He started to shake and she cut them anyway while his paws were up in the air. He bled on three of his nails (I understand this happens, it's ok) but she did not check them even for a second and we have blood all over his area. We had to get two more ladies to come over to help stop the bleeding. I will be back but unfortunately I will have to be a little more cautious with who I let work with my big guy. read more

The self grooming facility is not properly equipped to handle any type of larger dog. The steps to the tub are very skinny and slippery. The walls are supposed to have hooks/latches to safely wash your dog at the high level but they weren't there and we had to ask for them while our black lab was waiting for her bath in the barely cleaned tub full of another dogs hair. They do supply the shampoos to wash with but they are all watered down and the vaccums hardly work. The floors and tubs are VERY slippery and and those skinny steps become a dangerous obstacle once its time for your dog to get down. Our dog fell and cut her gums, she bled everywhere! The staff gladly took her to their vet office attached the wash. When she stopped bleeding and we picked her up they not only charged us for a vet visit but for the dog wash too! Keep in mind there are no signs posted that they do not accept responsibility for injured animals. I feel like they are running a scam by providing un safe facilities to benefit their veterinary office by making the environment dangerous leading to injuries that they are more then happy to charge you to fix (without being up front about the charges)!! Really inconvenient, unprofessional, inattentive and not informative. Never again. They knew very little about the dogs they were adopting out. It felt like I was informing them about her previous owners and restrictions after my work of emailing, and calling. They were not encouraging and as one other person put, it felt like a "business transaction," not an adoption. They asked me nothing about my home life and the dog had restrictions about re-homing. Additionally, although I called and emailed them about the dog 24 hours earlier, no one remembered that I called in advance. I also called the day I was making the 1.5 hour drive there to meet the dog, to give them a heads up. They did not have the runs available for me to meet the dog, I had to be in the main grooming area (thank goodness no one was in there or I would have had no place to meet). When I was asking about her, none of the staff knew anything, I was SO glad I had done research because they were not helpful. When I asked about her house training they told me "she rarely potties in her kennels", I seriously took her kennel record out of the girls hands to look at them. I work in a veterinary hospital and attend kennels so I know "accidents" vs "not potty trained" based on records. The dog urinated and defecated about 50% of the time in her kennel. That is not "rarely". They essentially lied to my face. When I decided I would adopt the dog there was no one around, they had all disappeared for about 10 minutes. When we finally got the paperwork started, the girl assisting me was taking all the phone calls and helping everyone else walking through the door, but the person trying to adopt a dog was forgotten, standing at the counter, waiting and waiting. During this time the attending staff member was bragging how this veterinarian gives them awesome raises every year and takes them to lavish Christmas parties in a party bus that the doctor pays for. They also forgot to tell me that although she had her shots, was micro chipped and was spayed, that the doctor had not seen her so she could not come home with me. She had to have a checkup due to their policy. I know they have rules and I respect that, but that is something you tell someone before they drive all that way to meet a dog. They told me it could be up to 2 weeks before I could drive another 1.5 hours there and back to pick the dog up. After looking at the paperwork when I came home, I realized they had told me she was a whole year older than they told me she was. Either they lied or can't do the math from 2007 to 2014. After one week of waiting I called asking for an update and if they had figured out when the veterinarian would be able to see my dog. See, I already paid to adopt her (my check cleared and everything) and did all the paper work, I was just waiting. They said that she was not yet seen by the doctor and that she was going to be getting a dental. There was absolutely no mention of a dental being done during phone calls, emails, or my in person visit. They argued that that was why this was taking so long, and that the doctor will fit it in her schedule when she can. I felt like I was getting the "run around" because they kept changing their story. First it was "come down were open seven days a week!" then it was "well, she needs to be seen by the doctor" now it is " she needs a procedure and to be seen by the doctor". Shouldn't they complete all necessary treatment BEFORE they adopt a dog out? Not to mention, if there was a medical problem with the dog, should the veterinarian see the dog first so potential owner knows about health concerns BEFORE adoption? If a vet can afford a party bus and awesome raises for her staff, she can afford to give good customer service to the new owner of a dog adopted from her rescue. read more

I accidentally ran by Julia's Jungle when I was looking around for a little kitten to join my family. When I saw him at Julia's Jungle I knew he was the one. The ladies who worked there stated he could not come home until he was fixed and the vet doctor would be back on Monday. It was disappointing, but I understood they had rules. Although when I first saw the kitten I was not even able to hold him to see if he would connect with me. Trying to stick my fingers through cage to interact with him was not the ideal moment I wanted to have when deciding a very important action such as adopting. I was also quite surprised they did not have me fill out a questionnaire to make sure I was responsible enough to take in a kitten. Even though I knew I definitely was, I still think it is extremely important for an adoption agency to make sure they know whom they are selling their pets to. I felt like it was more of a business transaction than an adoption. On Monday I called and asked the time frame of when the vet doctor was going to be able to fix my kitten, although I never received a straight answer... I was just told that the vet was busy and she will basically get to it when she could. I was told someone would call me tomorrow and let me know when. By Thursday I never received a phone call back and I called again and still the same answer. I did not care if it took two weeks, but I just wanted an answer on when... I was starting to become frustrated and I felt that the Vet office did not care about their adoption agency and pushed it to the back burner. I received a phone call on Friday that he was fixed and ready to be picked up. I was quite shocked to receive that phone call, because it sounded as if it was going to take awhile before I would actually receive him. When I came to pick him up the lady said to come back anytime after he was 12 weeks so he could receive the rest of his shots. I came back today at 9am and at first the lady just stared at me strangely and said began to state she could not take help because I would have to come back during walk ins 11am-2pm. It would have been nice to receive this information when I first came in to pick the kitten up rather than having to come back in a few hours. I came back again at noon. They were polite but not personalble. It was more like a "what do you need" transaction. No questions were asked about how he was doing, or any issues I was having with him. I felt awkward and was ready to leave. They lady gave me a hard time for not bringing him sooner because he was overdue for one of his shots, although if I was told that when I picked up the kitten I would have brought him in on time. I was also not told I would have to pay for the followup shot he was going to receive. And since it was three weeks late it was "if-y" if the shot would do its job. The lady came back to the waiting area to bring him back for the shots. I picked up my kitten to bring him back there but the lady said I had to wait in the waiting area and she would bring him back. You would think they would allow you to go to the back to comfort the kitten, as they were receiving the painful shots. Like I said it was like a business transaction and no personable interaction what so ever. I was probably in there for less than ten mins and the vet doc was not even the one who gave the shots to him. The vet technician was the one who did it all and could have done it this morning when I came in the first time. I was not at all impressed with this vet office and will not be bringing my cats here. My dog has "issues" with other animals and is also a diabetic, we had to go out of town unexpectedly for 2 weeks and knew that this was the best boarding/grooming in town. My dogs vet owns Julia's Jungle so we knew that she would be in good hands. We were able to call and check in on her a ton and always knew how she was doing, this was also the first time we had been apart from her in 9 years so we were nervous lol. We got back a day early and called from the road to let them know, when we got there to pick the dog (Sadie) up the staff were sad to see her go. We got a report card on how she did, a nice touch and she got almost all good marks. She only had an issue with the after bath drying part. Sadie was clean, happy and strangely sad when she figured out she had to leave. I think the best way to judge her stay is her feelings about going back, her vet is next door and the next time she had to go to the vet on her way to the car she whined until we took her in to see her new friends. The fact that she wanted to go back after spending 2 weeks there is enough to keep us coming back! read more
