The ambiance is bar/lounge setting with hookah and good drinks. I ordered some wings and fries - I was expecting a different type of chicken wing. These were more like wing dings fried extremely hard. The seasoning was very well (hot lemon pepper) but just fried entirely too hard. The service was awfully slow even though they were not busy at all but our bartender was really nice. Hubs and I decided to start going to random restaurants on Granby Street that we never visited before. This place was first on our list, we've been back a second time since then. Vibe is urban Mexican flare with hookah option. We enjoyed the dinner menu more so than the brunch menu. This is a trendy spot, where music and tv is always on. Although we had a good time this is a not a quiet place to go to on a first date. The servers are attentive and very friendly. A few of us came on a Friday night and we had a good time for the purpose if grabbing some food and drinks to get the night started. The atmosphere is a buzzy vibe with a nice mix of current music. There are music videos and sports games on various screens at the bar. The food was good. Customer service was lacking a little when trying to get drinks even when it wasn't very busy. We tested their unreleased (at the time) lamb pops, which still needed some work, but it was nice that they offered us samples to receive feedback. The crab cakes were decent but the mashed potatoes needed some work as they didn't taste like they were made from scratch. My friends enjoyed their meals. Noteably the Lamb Burger was seasoned well. Really wanted to like this place but it was a complete disappointment. -Ambiance: nice interior decor, greeted promptly at door, Sunday NFL on the TVs, but the music was deafening. Restaurant empty except for small group at table by back. -Drinks: looked like decent selection but stuck to water. -Food: first red flag of many--I was provided packaged plastic utensils, which is a clear indication of owners trying to save $ or be "efficient" at the cost of class. This is tacky and contradicts the vibe/aesthetics this establishment is trying to produce. Please don't sprinkle old bay around the brim of a dish to make it appear elegant, this does not work with old bay nor compliment the dish. Same goes for the flower, GET IF OFF THE PLATE (watch any restaurant show and you hear the same feedback from Chef Ramsey, John Taffer, Robert Irvine, etc.) The grits were a solid ball--have never seen this interpretation. I do mean solid; not creamy, not flavorful, not smooth, NOT EDIBLE. Completely dry, clumpy and bland. The sauce tasted like old tomatoes, metallic-like, and bland with a hint of old bay. The shrimp and lobster was not fresh at all, chewy, off-putting, and the shrimp was not deveined giving it that extra crunch/grittiness (not flavor) from the shrimps intestine (aka the "poop tract"). I took three small bites and returned the dish. Waitress/bartender was very kind and understanding--she offered a refund but I declined, and even tipped her. This establishment has a long way to go if it wants to remain competitive on Granby. Drive down a few blocks and a number of restaurants are packed with patrons. Came here with my cousins for brunch on a rainy Saturday. We arrived sometime after noon and the place was completely empty. We were seated immediately and provided with menus. We decided to order the Mimosa Tower since there were 5 of us. We managed to have two drinks each... not bad but I prefer my bottomless. Wanting something light I decided on the Cinnabon French Toast meal which comes with your choice of meat and seasonal fruits. I went with bacon. I looked online prior to visiting Republic and I must say I was highly disappointed when I arrived and the menu wasn't the same as what I seen online. I will say the food was ok. Went bar hopping and ended at this lovely gem. The vibes are amazing. Everyone in the bar was very nice and chill. The hookah was good the watermelon flavor is THE best. The night manager made sure we had a great time. I also enjoyed the music and the tv screens having the music videos going. Sometimes it's very overwhelming when every screen has a game on or some random show. So I only know this place as a night bar and my entire group of people loved this place. Would recommend. So I absolutely love this place. I determined which time I'd like to go based on my feeling. In the later evening night it's more like a bar. Music, drink flowing, socializing, etc. when I just want to catch a breather and grab some honey jerk wings and a drink I go before it starts to get dark. The honey jerk wings are my favorite. They are cooked to perfection and so flavorful. I feel like the sauce is also caramelized after the wings a fried. I have had the lamb burger which is cooked perfectly for me every time, and it's always moist and tender. I recently also had the jerk pasta!! It's amazing too. Oh yea and the jerk chicken tacos. We sat waiting for our drinks for an hour. The appetizer came out along with an entree. We arrived at different times but I was there for 45 minutes without a drink or my tacos. My friend was there at least 30 minutes before me and she never received her margarita flight. It was not a busy night but the service was horrible. So my girls and I do a black experience once a month by picking a black owned business to support, and this month we chose Republic. I made reservations on their website for brunch @1, but we lucked up and got there right before the rush and was able to be seated without needing to give my reservation info. One thing that slightly threw me back upon entering is having to be weapon scanned at the door. However, better safe than sorry. The decor is really cute with faux grass on the walls and bar. Now...the table situation gave a bit of a challenge. The fitted tablecloth that was used did not allow for me to put my legs underneath the table so I had to sit in a very uncomfortable side position just to be close enough to reach my plate. Although, I was twisted up to eat I have to admit the food was very good. I had the shrimp and crab omelette and every bite had shrimp and crab. They were not stingy with the ingredients at all!
