Worst business ever! Missed pick ups are a nightmare to try to resolve. They will tell you each day they are going to get it the next day or yet that day and NOTHING! Monday was my pick up day and now it's Friday with still no pick up. I live on a very busy road so LOTS of people see the full dumpster sitting out there day after day. They will NOT let you talk to a supervisor and trying to cancel service is almost impossible. Took 20 minutes to get them to do it and then on their terms. You can't cancel service immediately - must wait until end of a billing period, despite their crappy service. Been with these people for 16 years and it never changes. I just moved to town in December and I figured it's trash pickup it doesn't matter who I go with. It definitely matters. Republics signed me up telling me I would be billed $90ish every 3 months. So it made sense $30ish dollars monthly.. $100 ish dollars every 3 months right? I paid a $50 deposit Dec/2024 to start service that would go toward my first bill. I received a bill of $106.77 with National fuel fees, environmental fees, and additional $48 dollar delivery fee per can(2). I called and told them no one informed me that I would be charged for the cans. I've never had this happen before. They refunded me for one can but I already paid my bill so my refund of $64.90 would credit toward my next bill. They said I was covered through February. I still planned on canceling because of the added unnecessary fees were a red flag for me. I waited until today 02/19/2025 to cancel. I checked my account to look for my refund credit to ask them to put it towards picking up the cans. I knew they would charge me that since they charged me for drop off and upon logging in I noticed it was removed from the account and I had an existing bill of $42 dollars. When I called them they tried saying I owed the $42 dollars. How can I owe if they gave me a credit of $64.90 dollars to put toward my next bill after paying their bill in full? They said it was the difference of my last bill... Again, I paid the whole thing and was refunded credit after the fact...i was curious about the $42 bill so I clicked pay bill and it said current total charges $155.95.. Republics services was trying to charge me around $350 in total having only been with them for almost 2 months... They will rob you blind and then add additional charges for you to rid them from your life once you catch on. read more

Our HOA negotiated a deal with Republic Services, so we went ahead and signed up for trash services with them. The first year, it was a great deal, but like any deal with an evil, malevolent force, it gets worse all the time. Republic jacks up the rate every year. So far, it's gone up 70% in two years. Imagine going to a restaurant... and then having to buy all the ingredients... cook the meal yourself... serve it to your party... clean it up yourself ... and then get an enormous bill from the restaurant. If that seems like an acceptable arrangement for a relaxing night out, you'll love Republic Services. You essentially get a bill for them doing near zero. I had this service about 6 years and this year - almost every week - my trash would not be picked up. I would have to call, ask them to come back for it, and the customer agent would assure that the truck would return to get it in a day. As you might have guessed, that would not occur. I would call again... same story. This happened repeatedly over the last six months to a year. At one point it was 3 weeks with no trash pick up. Did I pay my bill? Absolutely. In fact, I would pay it ahead of time. It eventually reached a point that was ridiculous. What exactly am I paying for? I asked them to stop service and remove the trash can. I joked with the customer service rep that their trash can would still be at my curb in January. It wasn't far off. I had to make no less than 8 calls over three weeks for them to finally remove it. The kicker? They slapped me with $100 fee for the remainder of my service. The irony is thick. They would have cut off my service if I had not paid it. If they don't show up to get the trash... customers cannot withhold payment. Rich.... And compelling. Skip it, y'all. There are much better trash services in the CU area. You don't need recycling in Urbana. The city does that. Just pick a better company for trash! read more

They responded her for us to reach out and never did any follow up except to email asking for my account number. Then they said they sent my refund check for an amount due to me since June back in July but called me yesterday to ask what my mailing address was. Clearly it was never sent. They pretend to reach out but it's a dead end. I tried to talk to customer service a few times before leaving a negative review but I'm certain it's well-deserved now.... Even this follow up. Please avoid this company at all costs! They specialize in hauling trash and their customer service and pick-up service is TRASH!! You will not be able to talk to anyone until you wait 30 minutes on hold. I've spent hours on hold throughout my years of service with them. It is impossible to believe their call volume is that high, lies and garbage are their specialty. I cancelled my service and was told I would receive a $75 charge for removing the container cans!! If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I don't have enough fingers or toes to count the amount of times they missed my pick-up. All of my neighbors get their trash taken except me. I've called multiple times to report a missed pick-up and they say they schedule someone to come get it and it never happens. Its the middle of summer, there's ants and flies infesting this thing. Last month I called and reported a missed pick-up and they didn't come for two days, took the whole trash can, then gave me a new one which was smaller. I have been a client of Republic Services since I moved to Urbana. I have kept them because they were the only waste hauler, I know of, in Urbana that honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was in memphis that he fought for the rights of waste haulers. Now, I am torn. They have stopped celebrating his holiday and I have gone four weeks withour trash being picked up. I have put in three request for missed pick ups and was assured by customer service somone would be out the next day to pick up the trash. No one has arrived. Very disappointed. read more

We have had Republic Services doing our garbage removal for the last few years. Unfortunately, they are the only choice we have living in a rural area. Several times they have missed our scheduled Friday pick ups. When we call to inquire about the missed pick up, the same response occurs, "the driver has until 5pm". After 5pm comes and goes, we call back, we're then told we have you down for tomorrow for a "missed pickup". The majority of the time our trash isn't picked up the next day either. We are told the same thing every time we call. The following day comes and goes again. We are usually forced to wait another week before now two weeks worth of garbage has accumulated. If you have another choice besides Republic Services. Go with option 2...... They get one star because I can give anything lower. read more

I feel a little bad adding to all the exiting negative reviews. However, "let the buyer beware" definitely applies here. The fellows doing the pick-up were professional, courteous, and conscientious. However, the positive experience stopped there. It obviously depends on your location, but in mine north of Urbana, the pick-up was spotty, apparently due to staffing issues in the office. There was one time when we went two weeks where the pickups didn't happen at all. And yet, I would have stayed with Republic Services if not for their billing practices. Instead of a consistent amount charged monthly or quarterly, the amount was soar up and down monthly without explanation, sometimes even negative. I couldn't tell if I was getting shafted or not. One time though, it was obvious that I was getting charged for something that didn't happen. The billing support person I talked to was polite, but it took about 15 minutes while he investigated my claim, and finally agreed to credit the incorrect amount. A few months later, when I got a bill for $13 more than what I had been promised for the quarterly charges, I cancelled the service. Have had 4 missed pickups after 4 separate calls and were assured that we would have them picked up each time, and still we have been missed. If you assure we will be serviced and we pay for the service, then the servicer must provide that service. How is this best practice. It AMAZES me to see people describe Republic Services as 'reliable. Since I started with them in 2021, I cannot count times that my trash as NOT Been picked up. As I write this review, 5/25/22, my trash has not been picked up for the last (3) weeks, and I have been forced to find another (Private) company as of (2) weeks ago. AND NEVER, have I been reimbursed of the lack of 'MANY' failed Pickups. At this time, I have called them a total of 8 times over the last (2) weeks, regarding the removal of their 'container' from my property in Beringer Commons, Urbana, IL, which I was told would be today, 5/25/22. It is approximately 4:32 in the evening and after ANOTHER (3) CALLS today, customer service, supervisor KYLE at (217) 402-8560, who gave me his number "In Case of Further Problems), who refuses to answer his phone or to return my many messages left for him, and (2) calls to the ESCALATION DEPARTMENT, the container continues to REMAIN. The fact that they cannot even deliver on scheduled trash pickups, and that I now have to FIGHT to have their container removed from my property, I IMPLORE ANYONE to PLEASE, for YOUR SAKE, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, and save yourselves as much STRESS AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!! I quit Republic Services in September and I am still fighting with them. When I quit, the customer service personnel assured me they would waive the "container removal" fee. This fee by the way is so you can pay them to come pick up their equipment! Even crap cable doesn't charge you to return their equipment which I guarantee is more expensive than a garbage can. Just two days ago on December 23rd, I received a bill for over 100 dollars from Republic Services for this said removal that occurred in October. WTF? Talked to Customer Service on Tuesday. Again told that they would push up the line and get back to me. Today I called and apparently the person I spoke with on Tuesday is in the Charlotte NC office and I reached the Indiana office today. SUPERVISOR CHRIS told me he could only go back 30 days in the records and since my initial call was in October I was SOL. So basically all bets are off and CHRIS has no interest in waiving this fee. Quit Republic Services while you can and get anything they say in writing. You've been warned. read more

I would not recommend Republic services they will charge you to deliver your containers and if you move or change services they will charge you to pick up your containers which is over $80 to deliver and $80 to pick up there are so many cheaper trash services and recycling services in town with less hidden fees read more

I would say it was the worst trash service I ever had but I never received the service I paid for. After 2 weeks without trash service, no recycling bin delivered that I requested, a missed pickup and a missed pickup they scheduled that they also missed, I had enough to switched to Illini Recycling. When I called them to disconnect and complain, they refused to refund me my money saying that "service had been started". If it was we wouldn't have been talking! I'm taking it up with my credit card company now for a charge back. This is the absolute WORST garbage company I have ever had in my life. I can count on my hand how many times they have actually picked up my garbage on time. I had to call MULTIPLE times for them to pick up my trash after them just not picking it up and then still they do NOT pick it up. It is the most expensive trash company in the area. They are trying to charge me for the whole month of April, after cancelling service mid April AND then they only picked up twice after calling multiple times to have it picked up (one of the times was supposed to be when they were supposed to get my trash bin...) They are saying they are going to charge me over $50 to pickup my trash bin and I cannot drop it off at their location! And they still have not picked up my trash bin! Like many others on here, I also was tired of the rates continuing to go up. After awhile, I would call and see if they would match rates of other providers. They would come close and then the cycle would start all over again. I finally got fed up and cancelled my service. Luckily I had read about them not refunding any part of your 3 month prepayment, so I wasn't hit with that. Unfortunately I was hit with an exorbitant surprise garbage can pick up fee that was never mentioned in the service agreement. Looks like I am learning the same lessons as many others are learning about this company. I normally pay $84 every 3 months for trash pickup on both of my accounts. Until the last couple of months where I have been charged $104 and $126 respectively. Same service, no trash left out of the can. I then called customer service who connected me with Shirley who said that they could lower my rate to $57 a quarter, so we will see what happens. I've never been more disappointed with a service! I had used them several years ago, moved into a complex where services was provided, then returned to them last year after moving back into a house. When I returned I found I had a credit of $58.00 that they had never informed me of. (Pleasant surpirse I guess...thiougth their lack of processing the refund as just an oversight) Well this time when I discontinued service back in August of 2017 I noticed I had a $19.00 credit. Since August I have called 3 times and emailed twice. I've yet to receive an response to my emails and each phone call was told, "You should have your refund in a week." Not only did I pay their exorbitant fees every quarter, on-time through auto withdrawal, but they couldn't even extend the courtesy of providing on-time service THAT I PAID FOR! I filed countless requests for my recycling to be picked up (online and by phone) for three months without success. I finally got tired of having to ask them to provide the service THAT I PAID FOR and canceled my account. So let me start off and say this company provided trash service exactly like they say they would and constantly always let you know if they were running behind or had an issue. They will, however, continue to increase the price of every billing cycle which I understand they have to make money. A few years ago it was $45 per 3 months to currently $92 per 3 months. My 1-star review comes from their terrible customer service that never has been quick to resolve an issue usually 2 to 5 attempts, and am always given that I'm not allowed to do that, I'll have to forward this on to a supervisor, etc. At one time I was doing about $300/month in business with them between business and residential service. I wouldn't mind staying with them, but their customer service time needs the ability to resolve issues that satisfy the customer. read more

We have used Republic Services for 40 years and they were great. Until recently. Our last bill was $469.75 for three months which is an exorbitant amount. Especially when they don't pick up our garbage! I've had to call them repeatedly and I also went to their web site and wrote to them. They are supposed to pick up every Monday morning. Lately they haven't been. I called on Tuesday, they said they would pick up on Wed. As of Thursday our can was still sitting there, full. Enough is enough! In last 6 months I have had to call for missed pick ups multiple times. We are moving out of state and I have extra trash from cleaning out the house. I requested an additional pickup and was contacted and told they don't do those in my area (even though it's an option on the website) they also don't do bulk items. Pick-up of trash and recycling has been spotty over the last few weeks. When I call to complain, the call goes to some center out of state, which then refers the message. If they miss pick-ups all along my cul-de-sac, one call from one resident here is not sufficient to get everyone's trash picked up. That is twice what other companies charge. There were many instances where I had to report a missed pickup of the garbage or recycling. I've even witnessed them put the recycling in with the garbage! When I had finally had enough and cancelled my service, they charged me over $30 to pick up their container, charged me for a week of service that I didn't want, and charged me a late fee even though I had cancelled my service. I'm in a condo association so the bins will be lined up at the end of the drive. Recently Republic emptied the neighbors bin even though it was overflowing and he had a second bin that wasn't even marked Republic. They skipped getting mine out of four. When contacted, they said they'd get it at the end of the day. Didn't. Contacted again and was assured they would get it by 6:30 the next day. Another lie. This will happen several times a year. Once a long time ago as the hauler was pulling up early morning as I left for work, I walked another bag to him. He berated me and said it needed to be there before he arrived. So the next week at 5:30 in the morning (I don't leave until 7a.m.), my doorbell rings and the hauler is laughing and asked if I had more garbage. Later that morning, I called the business office and asked to speak to a supervisor. When I relayed the event to him, he also laughed, no apologies at all. In the last 2 months, Republic Services has missed 3 weekly pickups. That is far from their advertised 99.9% pickup rate. I was told that someone would be out the next day to pickup. That never happened on all three occasions. I was also supposed to get a call back form the local RS. That never happened. All around piss-poor-service I have been a customer for over 5 years.
