After 20 years of service I had to finally change service. Their prices have gotten Outrageous. Each pickup of 1 trash can they want to charge $29. $100 fuel charge per quarter. Look elsewhere for trash service. If you call customer service be prepared for 1 hour on hold to speak to someone. Also charge $58 can retrieval fee if you cancel service. I have never seen a company that only got 1 star reviews. After reading some of them, All the one star reviews for REPUBLIC SERVICES are correct. We had trash pickup service for years and they finally got ridiculous in their pricing. Trash pickup at two rental houses in Newport News was $524 a month. We decided that for $6,288.00 a year I would buy some cans and dump it myself. Crazy. They missed dumping the cans on average about 6 times a year. I would call and tell them that they did dump them and they would credit my bill $15.00, REALLY. $15.00 is not proportional to what I pay. Ridiculous !!! When we canceled the service, they charged $12.94 additional because I had the cans longer. I had the cans longer because the cans sat in the street for 10 days waiting to be picked up. Republic Services charged me a $190.63 to pick up the cans that they had just emptied. They did not notify me of the fee, and if they had I would have cleaned them and delivered them to their office for free in my truck. I live near their office. You can not just charge somebody because. I have spent so much time on the phone with their representatives that they should be paying me. I know all of the standard lines. Its Really Sad. read more

D.H. Williamsburg 11/20/2019 Company unapologetic about years of price-gouging, dismissive of request for partial refund. I only recently discovered that RS had been charging me, and i had been paying, a quarterly fee for routine residential trash pick-up at THREE TIMES the rate of both my next-door neighbors...for years. So called "customer services" reps told me charges were "valid" since I had paid them and had not complained. My three efforts to get to a supervisor got referred to a 24 hour call back promise which never came. I also noticed questionable padding of base charges for "fuel," and "environmental protection" and "administration." After I fired them they sent me a late charge for not paying the next quarterly bill. Told me charge for barrel pick-up was $30 and charged me $32.50 (plus fuel and environmental surcharges). If I could give 0 stars I would. Worst customer service. They never let you know about extra fees that come with every service they have, prices are being raised so often with trash removal service lacking and your trash not being picked up on time. We switched to Waste Management, wonderful service, they are always upfront with you about every single charge up to a penny , and CHEAPER!! read more

I am a new customer of Republic so they delivered a new waste container to my residence, even though I said the old container was fine from the previous owner of the home (also used Republic). When I called to have them pick up the old container they gave me a date to have it out for pickup - I had the container out first thing in the morning on that date (a Thursday). When the container wasn't picked up by 4:30, I called and service rep said it was to be picked up by 5:00 and I should call back after 5 if it wasn't. Well of course it wasn't, and called back just to get recording saying offices close at 5! So called first thing next morning (Friday) and rep "guaranteed" it would be picked up that day; nope. Called again toward end of day and they repeated it would be picked up by 5. So... container sat out over the weekend and Monday morning called - rep said they had "elevated" the issue and "promised" it would be picked up that day and (Monday)... you guessed it. So here we are at Tuesday, starting out the 6th day that container is out front. Someone came by and reminded me that containers are to be moved off the street the same day as the normal collection day per the HOA rules in my neighborhood or a fine could be levied... so far day 6 and Republic is apparently unable to provide a simple service such as collecting one of their own waste bins. "Service" rep this morning said I should leave the can out "in case" they come by... and "promised" it would be taken care of - just like the same promises last week. At this point I am facing a choice of leaving the container out to "maybe" be collected or face fines from my HOA. Because Republic can't do their job! read more

My next door neighbor and I have the same republic trash service. While cleaning up my yard after the last storm I picked up his downed leaves, etc. too and I put them at his driveway since he was away . The trash collector picked up my yard waste but left his. When I called Republic to find out why this occurred the individual was extremely unhelpful. She provided no explanation as to why this occurred nor would she state what their policy is. This is hands down one of the most dishonest and dirtiest companies I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We had our business dumpster serviced through this company. These people had the nerve to charge us a fuel surcharge fee even after prices went down, a monthly freshening fee for our dumpster even though this thing should've been retired 10 years ago and a statement fee every month for the bill. When confronted with these issues and told that we were considering another provider, they didn't even bother to call us back and the next day our dumpster was removed, no questions asked. We were left high and dry and to this day no explanation or phone call has ever been made to us about what they did. read more

After telling us they would not charge for their container pickup, Republic Services sent us a bill. Presuming this was an honest mistake we called. They were serious. It seems we need to add "dishonest" to our original post. So glad we changed companies. read more

We have a national account with Republic Services with pickup of a 30 yard dumpster ever other wednesday. Wednesday May 9 the dumpster was not emptied. A phone call was made and they promised to be here on Thursday May 10, Thursday came and they do NOT show so another call was made with a promise they would be here Friday May 11, Friday came and again they were a no show. Another call was made with a promise they would be here Monday. Monday came and guess what. NO SHOW. A call was made to Corp office in Az and all they did was email the local branch with a promise they would be here on Tuesday. Well needless to way they were a NO SHOW again. Here is it Wednesday again and now they are off cycle by a week for our bi weekly service. Trying to get a name or phone number to talk to somoene is impossible Customer service keeps telling me that they dont have access to that infomation. This is one of the national large companys for trash hauling. I am talking about a national account the company i work for has with Republic Services. I have had to contact my Corp offices for suggested review of this national account and go with a more responsible reliable company read more
