    Tick insects
    Sofyan S.

The room layout is actually quite spacious and reasonably nice considering the layout. However, there is a cleanliness, insect, and age maintenance issue with this hotel. The elevators sound ancient and creaky, the lobby seemed dated, and the carpet was dirty looking. There was also a lack of items like dental kit available. The biggest issue was when we checked into our rooms we found ticks. The insects or ticks were particularly concerning because it made us paranoid about bed bugs especially with the other reviews. Fortunately, the front desk politely moved our room and tried their best to accommodate. The additional star is definitely because of the helpful front desk staff in that situation. We also had other issues like the housekeeping not showing up and the boiled eggs at the breakfast tasting spoiled. Overall this Marriot dropped the ball with the insect/tick issue, maintenance, cleanliness problems, and missed housekeeping.

live bed bug which has just bitten someone and full of blood

BEDBUGS INFESTED - PLEASE SEE PICTURES AND AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Reserved a suite for my family to visit my parents (Room 106 for anyone who stays here). 2 days into the stay, discovered a bedbug on my sister's face and she had a couple of bites. When inspecting the mattresses / boxsprings, it was clear that this was a known problem as the bottom of the boxsprings have bed bug trails and bloodmarks, and one of the boxsprings had the bottom cut open in multiple places to be inspected for bedbugs. One of the hotel employees mentioned that they knew they had an infestation, but general manager claims they have never had bedbugs, and they have not and will not replace the mattresses / boxsprings. Michael the junior person at the front deck did his best to be helpful, calm me down, and get us a new room, but there is no way we would stay in that hotel another night. Vanessa, the general manager, refunded the points I used to book my stay after multiple back and forth requests, will not refund the 3 suite night upgrade I used for the 3 nights we did not stay at the hotel, has not offered to reimburse the cleaning expenses, and wants kudos for 'putting the room out service while they investigate". 4 days later I have been notified that their pest control service claims "I am happy to inform you that upon inspection of room 106 our Pest control Company found no evidence of any bed bugs past or present....In the future if you feel as though you have been in a room with bedbugs the protocol is to leave the area as it is. Moving the beds and furniture around will only further your contact and spread any possible insects that may or may not be in the room, creating a larger situation." Don't move the furniture and check the boxsprings bc that is where all the evidence is. Makes perfect sense. Fortunately, as a Marriott Ambassador member, they were able to find me another suite on 12/26 in the middle of peak holiday season. There is a residence inn nearby that has never had a bedbug problem and is much newer and cleaner at the same cost. https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/bosbt-residence-inn-boston-tewksbury-andover/overview/ On the positive side, did not bring the bed bugs home and was able to have everything laundered and dry cleaned. But furious that this known problem could have been avoided and they continue to deny there is a problem. Bedbugs are a reality of travel. But no Marriott hotel guest should have to suffer from the gross incompetence exhibited at this property when there is a known problem and the hotel does not properly clean its facilities and furniture, not dispose of infested mattresses / boxsprings.

People living here! As we walked down the hallway of our room, a strong odor of cigarettes covered the area, and one of the rooms had a homestyle floor mat outside of it, as if someone was permanently residing in the hotel. As we opened the door to the room, the cigarette smell became unbearable, along with a potent moisture/mold smell. As we walked around the room to inspect it further, we came across several burn holes in the carpet, broken cabinets, ceiling mold, a buildup of hair and dust throughout, stains, a large piece of pink gum smushed into the carpet, and overall filth. At this time, I went to the main desk and requested a change of location. I described the appalling condition of the room and stated that it seemed as if someone was actively smoking cigarettes on the 3rd floor. The receptionist's response was extremely rude and acted as if it could not be possible. She replied "although it is not allowed we can't control people smoking, the carpets are being replaced and there can't be that much dust and hair". Although she delivered a completely unacceptable response, she moved our room. Our new room I cannot say was much better. The room had several white stains on the couch, spots of mold on the pillows, filthy walls, and still a strong odor of cigarettes. I am very concerned at the fact that people are being housed and sheltered at this location. I am sure I am not alone, when saying I would have reconsidered staying here if I knew this ahead of time. Lastly, the hotel was already questionable being used as a shelter, but none of the exterior doors were locked at any time causing a very unsafe environment.

    King suite
    C C.

Nice size king room with kitchen and living room that has a pop out sofa bed. Sofa beds are not a multiple night solution but the king bed was firm with decent pillows. Kitchen is convenient in this area because there no restaurant and things are a drive from here so you're on your own or pay for food to be delivered and wait 45 - 1 hr when you could grab something at the grocery to stock up and eat in. Breakfast is 6:30-9, the normal hotel Continental fare. Staff is friendly and the place is kept up and quiet so you can rest. Nothing special in the area and a 25 mile drive to Boston.

These bugs were almost everywhere in the room

Not a bad place. The beds are a little hard, but the breakfast is dope. The people at the front desk are really nice.

It's a little hard to find at night but when I did find it I was quite pleasantly surprised. It's consistent like every other SpringHill- which are my preferred work hotels. This location doesn't have the full kitchens like most SpringHill Suites do, but it's fine with me- they have a fridge and microwave. Staff are very polite and efficient. Workout room is clean and well-equipped. I'm in Andover 3 or 4 times per year for work, and this will be my hotel to stay at going forward. The quiet setting makes you feel like you're in the middle of New England. Highly recommended.

BUTTT... the fridges in our rooms were not cold, there were loose hairs all over the "clean" towels and bathroom floors. Wouldn't bring up the hair but seeing black strands of hair when nobody has black hair in the room was very disturbing. Not only was there hair that didn't belong to us the water was brown and murky. We were told that the city was contacted, but there was nothing changed. the hot water however was okay and clean but basics you do with cold water (brushing teeth, washing face) was done in hot water or with water bottles. i would not recommend this specific location; literally would only go to see Grizzi* (hope I spelled her name right).

Everything seemed clean for the most part with your normal wear and tear you see at most hotels. The one thing that bothered me was there was still hair on the bathroom floor when we arrived, the vent in the bathroom was very dusty like it is never cleaned and the silverware in the drawer in the kitchen was still dirty. Bed was nice and comfortable and ac worked great. Service was mediocre. Nothing stood out to me. Desk personnel weren't overly friendly as they are at some hotels. I would say overall we had a pretty good stay, especially for the price.

The room was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice yet 2 days in a row (Saturday & Sunday) they had chorizo. I don't care for spicy and neither did my 2 young grandchildren. The people working that area were always refilling everything and keeping it all clean. It was just a blah breakfast. The laundry room do off site, 4 dryers and only 2 worked and 1 of those not very well. We had our clothes in the dryer for 45 minutes on high and they felt like they were almost as wet as when they came out of the washer. The outside area was a wonderful distraction for the kids. The pool, tic-tac-toe with beanbags , cornhole, they did have shuffleboard but we weren't sure what we were supposed to use with that. We stayed for 6 nights so we didn't qualify for a cleaning but it would be a HUGE help to have a dustpan and brush in the room. The kitchen area gets lots of crumbs. We would stay again as it was close to where we needed to be and it was clean and was good for our needs.

We try to stay with the Hilton brand to maximize point accumulation and this also satisfied that expectation. I booked ahead online, checked in and selected my room with the Hilton app before my arrival. I was working several miles South of the hotel but my colleagues staying and working at the same location convinced me this was a good area and good place to stay. The drive back and forth to the Wilmington area was consumed with traffic on I-93 in the direction I was going everyday. I was surprised to find out the traffic on I-93 was so much the "breakdown" lanes (shoulder) on the highway was open going South toward Boston from 6-10am and going North away from Boston from 3-7pm. The room was perfect for what I needed and it was very quiet. I booked a King studio suite which includes a small kitchenette. There was a king bed with a couch and coffee table with an ottoman under the coffee table. The kitchenette included a sink, microwave, smaller stovetop and a full size fridge. I stopped at a nearby grocery store when I arrived and purchased a few items to have in my room. My checked bag had significant damage to one of the wheels which compromised the hard case. I was concerned it would not last on the return trip. I chose to purchase a new bag on Amazon instead of driving and searching for something. I had it delivered to the front desk with my name. I let them know ahead of time that it would be arriving. When I got the notification it arrived, I went to the front desk after work and picked it up. It worked flawlessly and I was able to use the new suitcase to get my belongings safely home. Overall it was a good stay, quiet and comfortable. It was easy in and out and not too far from my work. However, I do not like the area or the traffic. This is way too busy for my liking. I likely have to travel here again but I would rather be visiting an area with far less traffic.
