Tried buying laundry soap from the machine took our money twice. Nothing given back. The desk did refund us. Fitness center was ok and again outdated. The lounge was great. Great bartender super nice. Sadly understaffed. She appears to have had to tend bar and wait on tables. Not cool for her at all. Good food and healthy pours. Check out was seamless. The property is very dated, older carpet, rooms in need of updates. What I have experienced at other Hilton and Doubletree properties is vastly different here. If you only need a place to rest your head if working in the area it works, but for a vacation stay, look elsewhere. read more

Wish I could say my experience was different from others, it was not. I will say that it appears on the surface they may be trying a little, like have fresh paint in the rooms, however it was applied either by a low bidder or the maintenance person who just does not give a crap. We stayed for a long weekend to attend a family reunion. The front desk clerk refused to accept my military ID as identification for check-in. She kept repeating, "I need a valid ID" and I would say, "you have one." The room was dirty with several large pieces of wax on the floor that I picked up and threw away. The shower was stained. The walls are so thin we could hear the full conversation the couple had in the next room. There must be a better hotel in the area for $250 a night! read more

shabby exterior parking lot full of trash no landscaping upkeep, weeds taking over- some construction inside but they put dirty old mattresses in the lobby for storage. breakfast in "restaurant" was awful, worst coffee ever, rude waitstaff sinks didn't drain, lock coming off wall, and housecleaning took towels and did not replace with new ones. this hotel is NOT holding up the Doubletree name and the employees are lazy. Extremely Disappointing Stay - Will Never Return I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Holland, Michigan, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. I was charged for waters that I never drank, and despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, the hotel refused to refund me. According to their paperwork, the waters "weren't in the room," which is absolutely untrue -- we never touched them. The lack of accountability and professionalism from both management and staff was unbelievable. The room itself was also a major disappointment. The plumbing was terrible -- the sink backed up while brushing my teeth, and every time the toilet was flushed it looked like it was about to overflow. The hotel is under remodeling, and as soon as we checked in all we heard were drills, banging, and workers constantly around. At one point, a worker was right outside our window. I'm just glad we happened to be dressed. Overall, this was completely unacceptable. Between the poor room conditions, the noise, the privacy concerns, and being charged for something I didn't use, I will not be staying at this property -- or any Hilton hotel -- again. This place is definitely not up to double tree standards or expectations. It's appears to be an old conference center. Best to do pros/cons for this worn and dated property. Pros: comfortable beds, good water pressure, mini fridge and microwave, plenty of towels, relatively clean looking room, not too noisy at night, friendly staff. Cons: slow check in, $20 incidentals hold, had to ask for the signature cookies, dirty carpets in hallways and stairways, slow/janky elevators, banged up doors, small rooms, loud A/C, grungy shower, no breakfast included, ice machine broken, price point and all the other reviews made it so I did not check out the limited hour bar and pool area. I would definitely find somewhere else to stay next time I'm in the area. Waste of money. read more

The front desk staff are amazing. They are investing in to this property with updates to their rooms. We did not experience bad smells or dated room. Here my negative- the lobby closed at 11pm. Yes, you read that correctly! They would not allow us to sit and unwind in the lobby past 11pm. In our 30+ years or traveling, that was a first for us. The other negative experience was with their person in what we now understand is the restaurant. We are accustomed to picking up a late snack, heading to the lobby to sit and eat. We were asked to leave (very rudely) because no food or drink was allowed. My husband had just ordered a beer and was told no glass can leave the area. Pretty common, so she hands him a plastic cup (still at the bar) then steps aside and he has to pour it in his cup. Now in writing it seems 1st world problem, but in person it was a first experience of absolute ugly person syndrome. There was no need for such an attitude. I still gave a 5 star because overall the stay has been positive. read more

Stayed here to attend a conference in Holland. The hotel is in need of some updating for sure. When I got upgraded to a balcony room I thought to myself nice I can sit outside and get some fresh air. Didn't know it was a view of the indoor pool and it was so hot out there you couldn't even sit on the deck. Lots of parking. Didn't try the restaurant or bar. Would never stay here again. Accidentally left my Airpods on the bed when I checked out (they blended in with the sheets). I called the front desk, informed them I see my Airpods at the hotel, and all I got was "nothing was turned in". They obviously couldn't care less, didn't bother to check the room, or phone housekeeping. I drove back to the hotel, stopped at the front desk, and again got "nothing was turned in". I walked around the hotel and used Find My to locate them in a housekeeper's room. I knocked on the door, demanded them and got them back. They were out of their case and obviously being used. I asked where she found them and she said "the room". I then asked why they weren't turned in and suddenly she can't speak English. I went back to the front desk and again they could care less. I called the police and filed a report, and a complaint with Hilton. All I got back was an obviously templated, generic and insincere email back from the manager that it was being internally investigated. It wasn't just about housekeeping taking my Airpods, it was a failure in customer service all the way around. read more

Come here frequently for work and tonight arrived at my (clean) room with my toiletries bag and all sundries i had laying out MISSING. Went to front desk and they had retrieved my toiletries bag with my medication/pills jostling in my bag outside of their containers rolling around and no location of my missing neti pot. Absolutely no explantation from the staff, just a "we'll call you tomorrow when we figured out what's up" promise. Horrified that someone went through my meds and stole them. read more

The $311 hotel (one night with two queen beds) was VERY VERY disappointing from the moment we tried to find it off the highway, to the next day when we checked out! 1 - The hotel was extremely hard to find because it was set back from both 24th Street and Waverly Road, so you can't see it very well from the street. And it is located behind what appeared to be a vacant run down old restaurant. The Hilton Doubletree signage on both street frontages is small and overgrown vegetation blocks the views. We drove past each entrance multiple times before we figured out where to enter. 2 - Next, the arrival sequence made it hard to find the front door and registration desk. My mother who came separately has a handicap parking sticker - but the handicap spot was located at the bottom of a large hill and she could never have made her way into the hotel had I not been there to literally help walk her up the long parking lot and up into the portico drive. Once we made it up the hill and under the portico we were greeted by wafts of cigarette smoke. We moved our way into the very dark dismal foyer and off to the left there was the registration desk. We purposely had booked two rooms under the same reservation assuming they would be next door to one another - sadly they put our two rooms 3 floors apart and were not accommodating when we asked if they could at least be on the same floor. They did give us stale cookies for our troubles though. 3 - Next, we proceeded to our rooms - where we had to go up a huge ramp while pushing all our luggage. Off to the left of the ramp was an overlook to the broad gathering space below where when you look down it you see a giant storage zone full of furniture on its side, stacks of mattresses etc. 4 - We made our way up to our room in a creaky slow elevator (the up button did not light up). Down the hall were room numbers that were literally on laminated cards VELCROED to the wall! 5 - The room was the saving grace of our stay. The beds were fluffy and comfortable, the bathroom clean and the shower had a modern shower head, and towels were great too. 6 - We were very excited about the salt pool and hot tub and decided to hit the hot tub at 9:30 PM on Saturday night and were greeted by a strange dirty shoe odor. Ick. We were told it closed at 10:00 - but unfortunately management came in at 9:45 and told everyone it was closed and we had to get out. So we had about a 10 minute soak. 7 - Slept fine. 8 - Woke up and decided to go work out - in what turned out to be the most pathetic gym at a hotel I have ever been in. Many pieces of equipment did not work. Thank god the elliptical did work but I practically hit my head on the low drop ceiling. The room was extremely small and stuffed with machines - no floor space for lunges or matt work. I went to get water from the dispenser and it was not connected and didn't have a jug, so I had to go up to the lobby to ask for water. They pointed me to a drinking fountain around the corner. 9 - Back to the room to get ready and check out. At the front desk when we checked out a group in front of us had a HORRID stay and it took over 10 minutes of them expressing their frustration to the manager. Finally it was my turn to check out. I paid my pricey bill, expressed our frustration quickly and quietly and left - feeling SO disappointed. This hotel did NOT meet the Hilton brand we know and love - a comfortable, beautiful, pleasant experience - one our family relies on as we frequently travel. Upon entering, the front Desk person was a bit confused as to why I was checking in as my maiden name and married name. I explained to him that it's too much of a hassle to switch my reward account to my married name. This is the only Hilton hotel I've had this problem with in all of my years as a married member since September 2017. He then finished checking me in despite my checking in on the app and gave me my free cookies I asked for. There was only one kind, but it was delicious. My room was fairly clean, but in a horrible location. Outside of my room I was facing the pool, several other rooms and could smell the chlorine coming through to the point of nausea. There was nothing, but constant yelling, screaming and splashing from the pool on all sides of my room. I can't imagine ever wanting to stay at this hotel again that does not have complimentary coffee and rooms of such a small size. The restaurant within this hotel has decent food, but it's also horribly over priced for what you get. I suppose it's nice if all you wanted was to get drunk because the alcoholic drinks are reasonably priced. Upon checkout I was faced with another headache of being overcharged by $20.00 for some unknown reason. I couldn't figure out why this was when I didn't get any room service, I made no additional charges to my room and I booked well in advance with my amount considerably cheaper. So although I love to travel with my little family, this hotel will be forever off of my list of hotels to stay at. read more

I changed my mind. I thought two stars was generous but not mean...,but now, I give one star. The trail of disappointment continued when we decided to take a chance on the hot tub. Suffice to say, after getting the weak jets to come on, after a few minutes you begin to realize you are swimming in the Ganges River. All I could think about was high school biology class and seeing all the tiny beasts that live in dirty water. So after our quick trip we decided it would be best to get out and shower thoroughly before we brought home polio or some such delight. It feels like nobody is in charge at this hotel. Our hotel room had a terrible odor coming from the bathroom. We reported it to the front desk to see if we can switch rooms and was offered additional housekeeping. It was cleaned again but now the bathroom smelled harshly of cleaning chemical and the odor came back an hour later. I realized it was coming from the shower curtain which was dirty and reeked mildew. The bathroom mirror had stains all over it and the clock was unplugged /broken off the wall. Straight out of the 1980's. Our room smelled, the bathroom even worse. We opted to drive three hours home in the middle of the night. My wife and I weren't comfortable walking barefoot in our room, taking a shower, and certainly didn't want to sleep in the bed. Lesson learned on our end, hopefully this review helps. I was a bit nervous about staying in a big hotel, but we barely saw anyone else. The room was labeled with a sticker saying it had been cleaned and it was also right by the exit. This meant we didn't need to walk through the hotel to get to our room...we could just go out the side door and be right by our car. A lot of hotels were expensive so we chose this one based on price. It was not as close to the water, but it wasn't a bad drive and it was mostly central to what we were wanting to do. The fridge and microwave in the room made it even easier to be self-contained. read more

I was a bit disappointed with service at the hotel. We made reservations for 2 rooms months ago under one name but upon arrival were given rooms not only on different floors bit in different towers as far from each other as it was possible. Upon entering the room, I felt a bit of an odor. Refrigerator was open and it had someone s leftover food. I went downstairs but there was Noone at reception to complain to. We stayed 2 nights and noone came to clean rooms. Upon check-out I asked about it and was told rooms are only being cleaned Upon request. Would of been nice to know in advance. The pool area is scheduled to close at 11pm. we were informed of this "strict policy" when we checked in. However, the hotel staff allowed a raucous party to continue till midnight when the party moved to the hall. The front desk clerk who had informed us of the "strict policy" stated that he would not do anything about it. If I wanted to be kept up by a drunken party I would have done so at a bar for much cheaper. if you want to sleep at the hotel, don't stay here. read more

Checked in via the app. The entrance was hard to find, you'll miss it if you drive around the back, which is easy to do). The app said the bar and restaurants were closed (they weren't). We did not get housekeeping service the day after we stayed the night, evidently you need to tell the front desk that you want it (the app did not mention that). The room is dated, bathroom grout old and dirty. The ceiling light..not working but the lights on the side of the bathroom are...whew. Sadly, we had no tv remote, but the housekeeper that was bringing another remote to another room, brought us ours as well. Yay! The bright side? The front desk team could not have been nicer. Really. So avoid this hotel until the company puts money into it, they have starved it. read more

The bathroom grout and corners have been left untouched and need to be bleached and scrubbed .. or Better yet gutted and start over. Just came back from a 3 night stay here and was super disappointed. I wish I would have read all these reviews ahead of time. Totally outdated place, old carpets, strange decor, and weird smells. The elevator rides were a bit scary although we only went up 2 floors. The staff were not friendly at all but yes, we got cookies when we checked in. Breakfast is on the go and only Sundays and Mondays. Whatever groups were there last night (7/10/21) were rowdy, loud, obnoxious and disrespectful. Could not sleep all night because of the door slamming and talking in the hallway. Just also thought that normally this hotel chain is on the high-end or above normal but this is really not the case. The reviews on here aren't reflective of my stay. The hotel was clean, rooms were nice, and the pool was maintained as it should. This place definitely does the job, and is comfortable if you're looking for a positive experience and a good nights rest. They gave us free cookies from the front desk upon check in which my daughter loved! The bar and grille were closed due to staffing restrictions from covid which is not the hotels fault. The only "criticism" of this place I could find was that the decor and building are "dated" in terms of design; it is not a 5 star hotel that you'd find in Dubai, Hong Kong, or Singapore - so don't expect this place to be like the most advanced and up-to-date grandiose experience and you should be fine. They had a ping pong table which I anticipate you need to check paddles and balls out from the front desk. It also offers a gym which would be useful if we had stayed longer. I give this hotel a 5 star review because we had a really positive experience, but it is a 4 star hotel overall compared to grandiose hotels read more

We were with some family for Tulip Fest, and being Hilton members this was a perfect choice. The staff was really wonderful, everyone was so friendly. One night we ordered food delivery and ate in the bar area, the bartender went out of her way to make sure we had anything we needed, napkins, silverware. She was great. The rooms are nice, fairly large and clean. It is a bit of a strange layout as the rooms hava a balcony inside looking out into the courtyard where the pool is. The price was reasonable, especially during the festable. One night coming in they were out of cookies and they actually called us later that night to let us know that they just made more. We would look to stay there anytime we back in the area, we had nothing but great experiences during our stay read more

The staff is always so nice but this place is dated. I am a hilton honors member & have stayed a couple times. The rooms have been clean but they need some sprucing up. There are glass showers and the water pressure is good. The towels and bedding are clean but the carpets and furnishings are old. The breakfast is good and the server is friendly and quick. I stay here out of convenience but it is not up to par with the majority of doubletrees I have stayed at. I hope they take the opportunity to update soon. The property could be amazing. The pool space is really neat but I have never seen it open. Some of the rooms walk out to the pool or have balcony's as well. read more

Very very old hotel. The only good thing I can say about it was the bedding was nice and it seemed somewhat clean. To be honest, the best thing to do is tear down the property and start over. I know this may sound petty, but the only reason why I did not give it five stars is because the outlets near the bed were limited to one between the beds, the others are across the room. Otherwise, this is a very nice hotel with spaces and especially made for business visits. There is a small business center (printer, computers monitors) closed off from the main lobby by a door for work. There is a half moon shaped pool with an adjoining whirlpool. For an additional cost you can have a room with ground floor access to it. The pool faces south so you get a lot of sun during the day. The first floor has a for-pay breakfast buffet style meal or you can order from a menu. Breakfast is very very affordable. Buffet consisted of turkey & sausage patties, scrambled eggs, house potatoes, yogurt parfaits. read more

I stayed here in September, 2023. The hotel is NOT compliant with ADA regarding service animals. They required filling out and signing a form, which is not the same as "asking a question." Imagine if you needed to fill out a form every time you visit a public place with a service animal. Hopefully the hotel's legal team can enlighten the hotel to change its policy. read more

They just had grab in go breakfast because of stupid COVID so I can't say if the breakfast was good same with the pool. Room had minor things that could have been better. Hotel is aging. Rooms were clean. Public restroom near pool was very dirty. Poor service/communication. I booked 2 rooms with 2 queen beds each. Morning of was told I would have adjoining rooms but only 1 was clean. Would call when 2nd room was ready, never got a call. When we came back the adjoining room was given away to another guest and my 2nd room was changed from 2 queen to 1 king. Was told hotel was fully booked nothing they could do. Next morning I asked the front desk to change the king room was told they were going to reach out to manager to confirm. I called later as I hadn't heard an update. I ended up hanging up. When I made it back to the hotel front desk said there wasn't any comments/instructions about changing and they were sold out so nothing they could do. WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE BY A LANDSLIDE!!! There should be a 0 star option. We booked this hotel through Travelocity.com for much more money than I was comfortable with ($600 3 nights) but availability around town was limited due to a high school hockey tournament in the area. We were due to arrive late at night the first night, but made sure to call ahead to confirm our late arrival. Lady on the phone said she would leave a note. We arrived after midnight, as planned and forewarned. The midnight manager finally returned to the lobby after a 20 minute wait and seemed very stoned. When I approached him to check in, he immediately started apologizing saying they had no rooms. Our room was given away. The midnight manager called his general manager to come in and sort things out. It was now close to 1:30 AM... We had been there for close to an hour when the General Manager arrived. After labored discussions the General Manager told us he had a room, but it was under repair. They would allow us to stay in that room for the night free of charge then move us the next day to our original reserved room. After the treatment we had already received up to this point, we made our intentions clear that we would be looking elsewhere to stay in the morning. During this process and while we were transporting our luggage to the room, we began to notice how visibly dirty and unkempt the place was. Massively stained carpets, crumbs and litter everywhere, dingy old furniture and walls, broken handrails...simply embarrassing for even a 1 star hotel. It got worse. We got into the room 117 they offered for the night. The stench alone immediately pissed everybody off the moment we walked in. The room was too small, the TV did not work, a drawer was missing, there was no refrigerator, both beds were on a slant, and as a wonderful fall night coup de grace... NO EFFIN HEAT, SERIOUSLY! We were tired, and there was not going to be any good rest in this room. In fact, two of my three daughters actually went out to the car for half an hour to try to sleep. I started contacting other hotels in the area for immediate an reservation, while my wife contacted Travelocity to deal with getting a full and immediate refund. She explained our awful experience with the agent. The agent called the hotel manager to confirm everything that had happened to that point. Travelocity and the hotel at that time agreed to cancel the rest of the reservation and issue a full refund. After calling around, no rooms were available for immediate occupancy anywhere...it was the middle of the night after all, so I booked a new place for afternoon check-in. As we packed the car in the morning, I went to the front desk to speak with the morning manager to confirm check-out. Since she was likely unaware of the previous nights events, I briefly explained the situation, and asked to confirm our reservation was cancelled. It was NOT. Instead, we were reserved and charged for the next two nights, but through the hotel this time. I informed her we canceled through Travelocity and to cancel whatever reservations were under our name with a full refund. She complied no problem... Even after we were gone, it still got worse. The following day we double checked the credit card transactions for the refund. After discovering it was not posted, we contacted Travelocity again. The agent this time said our refund was denied by the hotel. So now we had to take another few hours...yes, a few hours out of our limited mini-vaca to re explain the entire story and situations to a new Travelocity agent. That agent then proceeded to contact the hotel who incorrectly claimed that we were still in that building and never checked out, to which I reminded everybody that the hotel has security cameras. We had to go through an entire complaint process with Hilton corporate management and an entire process with Travelocity upper management before it was finally decided that we could actually get our money...most of it refunded by Travelocity, not the hotel. Travelocity would not refund processing fees and taxes. AVOID THIS DOUBLETREE HOTEL LIKE THE PLAGUE IT LITERALLY IS! In fact, I will be avoiding all Hilton properties for life after our experiences were concluded with that level of unprofessionalism by corporate management. read more
