Really great, authentic Middle Eastern (Lebanese) cuisine. The homemade flat bread is made fresh on a brick oven and is nice and soft with a bit of chew. The hummus is delicious, and you can tell it is made fresh. The grape leaves were solid (wish there was a bit more filling in them) but very tasty. We tried the chicken, beef and Kafta kabaobs. All were excellent. The chicken (breast meet) and beef (tenderloin) were perfectly cooked with a bit of char. The Kafta was my favorite. It was juicy and flavorful. Was in Houston on business and unfortunately the hotel was not super close to any restaurants worth while and I had. I car so decided to take a Chance an order to go. Ordered with the app on yelp which was super easy and gave me status on when order was received and when it was on its way to be delivered. Food was carefully contained and was still hot upon arrival. The chicken was very tender and has the right amount of spice on a layer of tasty rice. The hummus as a side was super tasty ( probably some of the best Ive had. The bread was large and I ordered 2 as I thought hey would be smaller however it was coated in sesame seeds and had a strange flavor. Not bad but certainly could not compare to some other Lebanese bread I've had from another Mediterranean restaurants. The baklava I ordered was flaky and soft not too crunchy and had a very good flavor. My husband and I stopped in last night around 10pm as we've driven by several times and it was always packed and we love Mediterranean cuisine. It wasn't packed, our waitress Christina greeted us and she was so friendly! We sat closer to the hookah bar and we asked if she had any suggestions on flavors for hookah, she recommended orange mint so went with that. We shared an entree the sampler kabob (chicken and beef) with hummus and baba ghanouj. They brought the hookah to our table, very elegant looking! We both tried the orange mint........ WOW!!! It was super refreshing and we both enjoyed it! Great suggestion for our first time in the place. Our entree arrived, my husband ate the chicken and I ate the beef..., another WOW moment because they were seasoned oh so well!! Everything was absolutely delicious and the whole ambience was very relaxing. We are definitely coming back and bringing the kids! Listen people!!! Don't dismiss this review as the rantings of a crazy guy...I flew into Houston hungry and in the worst mode. I walked into Rest House Cafe to get a bite to eat...they kitchen was closed but totally understandable since their posted hours said close at 11:30pm...it was 12:30...I was told the kitchen was closed but I was telling the wait person I was so hungry...she was so compassionate and empathize with my hunger, so she gave me (free) hummus and pita!!! (Delicious btw!!). Made it a point to go for lunch the next day and had the chicken sandwich. AMAZING!!!! Then I went for dinner and got the kafta sandwich...even better than the chicken!!! I've been back every day for 10 days for lunch and dinner and they left me more and more enchanted!!! There is nothing I can say to dissuade anyone from having the most amazing food, the most AMAZING service and the most amazing I'll "NEVER" forget this place experience...go and be blown away as I am. This relatively small, unassuming restaurant churns out some delicious Lebanese food! My husband, toddler, and I shared the falafel appetizer plate, sambosik appetizer plate, and mixed kabob platter that includes two sides and two freshly made pita. The falafel was hot, crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, and came with all the necessary accompaniments. Little guy particularly enjoyed the sambosik, which are hand pies filled with spiced ground meat. The pastry dough tasted homemade with a slightly chewy bite, and the filling was nicely seasoned. The kabob platter came with chicken, beef, and kofta kabobs, all of which were cooked nicely, and each having their own flavor profiles. Be sure to ask for garlic sauce and chili paste to go with your grilled meats! The dill rice was perfectly cooked, baba ghanouj was smokey, lemony, and creamy, and the pleasantly chewy house made pita was the perfect pairing. We'll definitely be back! read more
