It pains me to give this 3 star rating, because I absolutely love their beef shawarma platter. It's my go-to dish, and when I crave Mediterranean food, this place comes first to mind. We have a young child, so we opt for takeout most of the time. Today, I got off of work early, so my husband and I wanted to dine-in child-free. We arrived close to the end of lunch hour. We saw the sign advertising for the chef combo, which I wanted to order after perusing the menu. The waitress was not friendly. Her demeanor and tone were not customer centric. She said I couldn't order the chef combo anymore. I told her it wasn't 3 yet. She said that they ran out of sides, so it wasn't an option. The message was fine, but the delivery was rude. I picked something else and was confirming what it came with, and rather than point me in the right direction, she went back and forth with me. My husband has worked in the restaurant business and was shocked at the interaction. I wanted to order an alcoholic beverage, but after the negative interaction, I opted to leave it at food only. I didn't want to stay longer than needed. I wish I could give this place a higher review, but I'm going to go back to take out if I come back. I'll think twice about dining here again. read more

We ate here on a rainy Saturday night and it was nice and quiet. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive. We brought our baby and they made us feel very welcome with a messy eater. The food was ok. We shared the Beef & Chicken Shawarma Sizziling Plate and it was enough to fill us up. I enjoyed the variety of foods. The chicken, rice and hummus were good. The salad was pretty bland and the steak was pretty chewy. I was anticipating a more atmospheric environment and was disappointed on that end. My gyro was bomb as were the spicy potatoes that came with it, but......I can't say their roast beef was any good. They do have an excellent and unique homemade hot sauce, but you have to ask for it to get it on the side--$1.00. The hummus was a but bland, hence why I got the hot sauce for it, which then made it amazing. Service, excellent. Kind, friendly, attentive, and always willing to answer any questions about their dishes since that have a wide array of food in their buffet section that you can get a mixed plate and choose 2-3 items from it. BUT-- they have probably the best baklava I've ever had!!! Wow! And they have a layer baklava cheesecake with a thick layer of baklava at the bottom, then a layer to cheesecake, then another thick layer of baklava on top. I seriously would return here for the baklava alone--i have to get the cheesecake next time!!! Ambiance, very open, checkered floors, outside patio...pretty casual. read more

Came here because a friend posted about them on her FB page recently, and we're in the area anyway. Well, Friday night and there's only 2 other people dining in (not a good sign). I ordered the lentil soup, gyro plate, beef shawarma plate, and meat lovers pizza. My gyro plate was a disappointment. First off, the rice was NOT fully cooked (think some hard grainy bites, NOT good). Hummus and pita bread came with the pizza. And that hummus was also disappointment, it may have been the worst hummus I've ever had. The salad that came with our meals was also a sprinkle of veggies here and there doused with a lot of oil. They could do better on We all ordered water and my goodness, that water tastes NASTY. It also smelled nasty. I had to walk up to the dollar store nearby and get me some bottled water. The boys did chow down their pizza and hubby didn't complain about his shawarma. Hence, the 2 stars. But, I'm for sure not coming back here. read more

Went for a late lunch on a Friday. Interior is lovely almost reminiscent of a European cafe and aperitif bar. They have alcohol and a variety of coffees. I'd come just for drinks or after dinner coffee and dessert if I lived closer. They offer a fixed price buffet line option I might try sometime. We knew what we wanted to try however so opted for the full menu option. Food was very good. The moussaka was fantastic as was the falafel. I would opt for more garlic in the hummus but the spicy potatoes and tabouli were spot on! We got the gyro wrap combo, I opted for lamb and hubs got chicken both with spicy potatoes. We also got the vegetarian plate as a starter. I liked that the pita was fuller, not floppy thin pieces that some offer. No complaints with the food at all, pricing is in line with similar Mediterranean restaurants. Patio looked very nice and saw they have belly dancing sometimes. No parking immediately outside as its in a shopping strip so you have to walk to it across a parking lot. Im mobility impaired but managed ok. Our server was new, 2nd day on job but she was friendly and still learning the ropes. Other staff member was keeping an eye on things and helpful with questions we had. Hubs gave kudos to the chef (owner?) for the moussaka he was THAT happy! Definitely recommend. read more

Just an update: we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was empty when we arrived. We ordered and two more parties showed up and were seated. We noticed that that both parties received their food when we didn't even get our appetizers. We asked if everything was ok with our order. The waitress said she would check on it. After 5 minutes or so a man came out from the back and brought our food to the table. He proceeded to become confrontational with us stating that the food was made fresh and would come out when it comes out so don't bother asking about it. He threw the dishes on the table and stormed off. I guess he would't let the waitress deliver our food so that he could tell us off. We were left with our jaws hanging open as our inquiry wasn't meant to be confrontational at all. We were stunned! So, unfortunately we won't be back because of this hot headed, short tempered man. read more

Place is clean with lots of seating. You order prior to finding a seat. I didn't like that their menu had two different prices for their gyros. One said wrap only and the other said combo. No where on the menu did it say that the wrap only option was for lunch only. I told the cashier I just wanted the wrap, and she insisted I buy the combo or it would be the same price. I pointed to the menu confused that it says wrap only and she said that's for lunch only. I went ahead and ordered a salad as my side, but on my receipt it said wrap 9.11 and side salad 3.11, so clearly she could have just charged me for the wrap instead of forcing me to pick a side. My gyro was okay, it was lacking flavor. My son's kid's meal was basically a cut up frozen tender and some fries, which cost 7.99. Wasn't impressed with the food for the cost. read more

Waels moved a few doors down and is much bigger than the previous location. They also have a lovely outside covered dining area. Inside they have a menu you can order off of or a new option is to go through a line cafeteria style and have your food prepared in front of you. We opted for the table service and everything was delicious as usual. I had the lentil soup. Others had hummus and pita bread and lamb wrap. We've been to Waels a handful of times. The food is consistently good! Nothing special, but it's close to our home. Tonight, I ordered a gyro combo plate. Since rice isn't a side option, we ordered a separate side of rice for $5. We got home and it wasn't in the bag, so my husband went back to get it. He called me laughing... this $5 side of rice must be $1 per bite! He asked if this was the correct size for that price, and they said yes. We had friendly service here from our waitress but the food was mediocre. Nothing special to write about, nothing was made from scratch and I'm pretty sure you can make this at home if you went to your local Mediterranean grocery store. I got the crab and shrimp, and then when I get it there's shrimp and imitation crab. I asked if I could swap the wrap out for a lamb gyro. Food is OK and the fish that I had off of the buffet table was so dry as to make me think I was eating fish jerky. My husband had some beef dish and it was equally dry. I had the lamb shank, and the food was very tasty. However, when it was time to pay the bill (there were seven of us, but we paid individually), we encountered an issue. In addition to the gratuity-which I understand is typically added automatically for parties larger than six, even though there was no mention of this on the menu-we were told that no tip had been included on our checks and that we needed to add one ourselves. My wife and I have been coming here for about 6 months now , this is the absolute best Mediterranean food and one of the best restaurants in Houston in my opinion, the chicken has such a good flavor and is always cooked to perfection, the beef is really tender and always cooked great. This place is a gem. It has a clean modern and fresh decor with a covered outside patio. The food here is excellent. I have tried several items on the menu and I have enjoyed every one. I used to come here strictly for the Gyro sandwiches, but now I've tried almost everything. My favorite is an eggplant dish called moussaka. I've recently had family in from out of town and they travel to the Middle East and Turkey several times a year and they said the moussaka was excellent. The hummus is excellent, best I've had. One surprise is the pizza, I'm from New Jersey so I am very picky about my pizza. The pizza here is superb. Another item that many overlook is the cocktails that Wael serves. I would rank them as good as if not better than any craft cocktail joint in all of Houston. They also has a Lebanese beer which has become my favorite. The baklava is as good as any I've had. During lunch on weekdays he has a serving line where you can pick and choose from a number of menu items, it is not a self service buffet so the quality of the food is much better than you'll find on any self service buffet. I try to come for lunch when I can, and the price is unbelievably reasonable. The service is also outstanding. Kelsey works mostly days. Very attentive and handles a busy lunch crowd with aplomb. Virginia works mostly nights and has always treated me like I'm more than just a person eating a meal, a very welcome difference than most other places. Then there is Aiden. I guess I would call him a floater, helping the waitresses. But also waits table at times. He waited on my family last week when they flew into town and I must say I was impressed with his service. He's quiet but very confident and gave us excellent service. Try this place. It is definitely worth the time. read more

I truly wish I could give this restaurant more than five stars. Starting with the staff... everyone (owner included) were polite & genuinely interested in how our experience was. Helpful without being awkwardly overbearing. Their mint lemonade is super light and refreshing. The fried cauliflower is seriously addicting! It came with a bowl of garlic sauce. We also ordered the tzatziki which was both garlicky and creamy. It was accompanied by a bowl of warm, fresh pita bread triangles. My wife ordered the Chicken Tawook kabob plate (included a delicious Greek Salad). The chicken was tender and packed with so many flavors. The rice was cooked to perfection. I opted for the Penne Pasta ala Chicken in Alfredo sauce. I thought this would be a risky choice but boy was I glad I made it. This was some of the BEST Alfredo sauce I've had! If you've ever had the pleasure of having the Alfredo from Cavatore, you would absolutely love this. There were bits of mushrooms, squash and who knows what else swimming in my pasta and it was all enjoyable. As I said before, this place is worth more than the 5 stars allowed. read more

I and my daughter came in and ordered to go. I preferred 2 gyro plates at 16.99 each. They came with gyro meat and 2 servings of rice. This I feel is ridiculous for a gyro plate, I remember when you get the meat and at least a choice on a side but we got that and a salad. I paid extra for the grape leaves. The food was ok, but for a lunch for my teen daughter and myself bring over 50.00 is expensive. I wished we had the option to have a choice of a side like 2 grape leaves or a scoop of taboli or hummus. Just saying that would made this lunch meal better. read more
