Aladdin has been around for as long as I can remember. My dad used to drive by it when I was a kid, and I always wondered about it. Now as an adult, I have a free will and love coming here for mediterranean food whenever I am in the area. Many options, and the food comes out fresh, made to order. I just took my boyfriend here and he is shocked that he didn't try this place sooner. I ordered the lamb gyro plate while he got the lamb kabob. Both taste great! The lamb kabob was very juicy. Our sides consisted of caramelized onion hummus, creamy pasta, cucumber salad, roasted cauliflower, and tabouli. All were very good, especially the hummus. I don't know why it took me so long to finally try Aladdin here but I'm glad we finally made the trip. This is a fast casual spot where you really just choose a main and various sides. Staff were helpful in directing us as it was our first time here. I got the lamb meatballs and was given the chance to try it before buying it, which was really nice and I ended up really enjoying them! They were loosely packed and light and very flavorful with a good broth and veggies to go along with it. I also got the caramalized onion hummus, lentils with a bit of tabbouleh on top, and the eggplant stew over saffron rice. I got 3 sides but the staff recommended the additions for each of the sides so I felt like I got more sides than I paid for. All the sides were amazing and I can see why people would just come here and make a meal of sides. Sitting in the restaurant, we also were provided fresh bread and it was so good, I wish I got more as I finished the bread so quickly. I'm really glad we ended up trying this spot and I already can't wait to come back and try more of their mains and sides. Aladdin is my go to spot for Mediterranean. They offer a ton of different selections like hummuses, cold salads, tabouli, hot foods like lamb, chicken, baked vegetables and of course, the most delicious fresh pita bread. Seriously, it is to die for. I typically order the four veggie plate which comes with your choice of whatever four non-meat options you want. Insider tip is that they will often let you order half sides so you can try a few more things. My favorites include any of their hummus, cucumber salad, and the baked cauliflower. Whether you select the standard side or go for half sides, portion sizes are substantial. While I will typically order and takeout, they do have a small inside seating area to dine in. Parking can be a bit tricky as there is a very small (I mean small!) lot directly outside which is shared with Burger Joint and is usually full. They do have another lot just a block down on Montrose Blvd heading north which is usually open. Go to this lot to avoid the stress of pulling in and out off of busy Montrose Blvd and having to find a spot large enough for your car. Honestly, this is a probably more of a 4.5 but I went with a 4 because it is very comparable to Fadi's but a smaller restaurant with not-so-great parking (there is parking nearby but in general, it's not easy to find a spot). BUTTTT I love the food here! The portion sizes of the sides are really big, they definitely fill the plates/take-out boxes. And the bread is so soft/fresh; tastes like it came right out of the oven and I like it more than Fadi's. Wish the meat portions were bigger but overall, the prices are very reasonable. Service is friendly and cafeteria-style. Lots of options (salads, hummus, cold/hot plates, etc). Very nice family-oriented restaurant. I think the selections are more at Fadis but the food quality/taste is better here. I really enjoy it here and hope they open up more locations in the future! read more

This was our first time stopping into Aladdin's and it's my favorite spot for Mediterranean cuisine since moving to Houston. You order cafeteria style and primarily can enjoy 1 protein with 3 sides (there's an option for 4 sides as well if you're vegetarian or aren't feeling a protein). There are so many options among their dips (hummus, baba, etc.) cold veggies and salads (chickpea salad) warm veggies (eggplant stew) and of course their mains (a variety of lamb preparations among others). Everything I tried was rich and flavorful. I really enjoyed the eggplant stew over saffron rice as well as the acidity with the chickpea salad (with tabouli on top). The lamb shank (a few extra dollars over the standard 3+1 combo), fell off the bone like a slow cooked pot roast and was massive (with potatoes, squash, and carrots mixed in). Their pita is so soft and pillowy and makes a perfect companion for the baba or to soak up the lamb shank broth. The dining experience is pleasant with friendly staff to assist you with choosing among their plentiful offerings. It's a fairly large dining room with booths and tables and it's easy to navigate. The only uncertainty was whether we should clean the table. We didn't see a place to discard trash and to place our trays, so I think their staff will clear things for you. We'll definitely be back to enjoy more of their delicious array of Mediterranean food. read more

I loved the restaurants that served "comfort food" (from any culture and variation) so long as it was a good representation of where it was located. This is what makes Aladdin such a gem! It's top-notch Mediterranean food located in the heart of historic Montrose. It represents old Montrose in a way that many newcomers may not be familiar with, which is exactly why a passerby should give this place a shot if so inclined for this type of cuisine. Not only is the food really good, their prices have remained fair despite current economic conditions and inflation. That's really hard to come by in any big city these days! Unfortunately, we have only ordered takeout from here so I can't really comment on service or ambiance of the physical restaurant. HOWEVER, since our friends told us about this place 3 months ago, we have ordered from them maybe 4 times. We've ordered them specifically when guests visit from out of town. We get their shawarma with 2 sides and have gotten the exact same order every time. We get saffron rice and caramelized onion hummus as our sides. The caramelized onion hummus will change your life. This has become our favorite Mediterranean/Halal restaurant in town. It NEVER disappoints. Their meat is so tender. Their hummus is AMAZING. The item we get never comes with enough pita so we always get extra. Will probably be back next month--let's be honest, we are hooked! read more

We were downtown at MDA for my sons treatment. Before we went in we asked him what he wanted for lunch and he looked at maps and picked this place. I was not thrilled because its not too hard to get bad Mediterranean food. I didn't say anything because what he wants he gets on these days. I am glad I didn't fuss. The staff was great and helpful. The food was reasonably priced. They allowed my son to try a few samples so he could find something he would like which helps a lot when you are on chemo and it alters your sense of taste. The 3 of us ended up with 3 different options. We tried things from each other plates an there was nothing bad on anyone's plate it was all delicious. I'm not sure how I've never reviewed this place before, because I eat here at least once a month for the past decade. They do have dine-in space (and it's byob), but most often, I get takeout - definitely in my top 3 Houston food delivery options. The takeout portions are way bigger, anyway, so even when I do dine-in, I usually order to-go and take half the food for a 2nd meal. Hands-down #1 food item is the caramelized onion hummus. Five stars. Their pita is so soft and pillowy and delicious. Always order extra pita. My favorite entrees are the lamb gyro (not the wrap) and the spicy lamb meatballs with vermicelli rice. All the sides are good... so it really depends on what you like and are in the mood for. I like the tabbouleh & cucumber salads a lot, but there's really no wrong answer. It was my first visit here. It's located near the children's museum. Their ordering system is a bit confusing. It's kind of like Chipotle, where you make your own meal by picking different options. So I just grabbed a tray & basically walked down & picked whatever I wanted. The pita is made fresh, so it's served warm & and hot. I loved it. My plate had babaganoush, spicy hummus, beets, tabouleh, and eggplant stew. The eggplant stew was good but too salty for me. The dips were good, the tabouleh was fresh but could've used more lemon. The beets were good, but I prefer pickled beets, and they didn't have a strong pickled flavor. I also tried the lemon potato wedges, but they were dry. All first timers I hope you check this review out. 1st parking is a bit rough, very small parking lot; but there is many open lots a little bit further up the street (maybe less than a block away) you can park there. Easy and free. 2nd when you come in you grab a table and then go up to the "cafeteria style" line. Get yourself a tray, comb the menu and get the sides and main courses you want. Lastly here's the break down on my EXCELLENT meal. The bread is fresh, hot and delicious. Fired and baked right in front of you. There is a plethora of options and I wish I had a belly big enough to try them all. (guess that means I have to come back). I got the Quinoa which was fresh and full of flavor. The grilled cauliflower that was cooked to perfection and served with a very nice dipping sauce. The saffron rice was filling and flavorful. My entree was the spicy lamb meatballs. We went for dinner yesterday for the first time, and the only other Mediterranean restaurant we've been to was buffet-style, so this was slightly confusing for us at first! They had a sign with instructions on how to order, and so you start with grabbing a tray and you can walk and see all the food options through the glass. There's set options, and we both went with the 1 entree + 3 sides for $17.99. The hot and fresh pita was amazing! I went with gyro as my entree and my boyfriend got the lamb shank, and we were stuffed. The lamb gyro was so soft and tender like it just melted in our mouth. It was one of the best gyros we've had! The staff were nice and patient with us even though we took forever because we were so confused on how this place works. On 3/3/2025 my wife and I visited Aladdin at Westheimer & Montrose, she ate hummus, baba ganouj, tabouleh, and creamy pasta salad. Seven hours later she was throwing up, spiking a huge fever, and unable to walk. I took her to the emergency room, and they gave her IV antibiotics. Her illness was so bad they admitted her, kept her hospitalized for two nights, she received IV antibiotics, they finally released her today (3/5/2025) and she's still on oral antibiotics. She is going to have tens of thousands of Dollars of medical charges. I recommend that no one ever go to this place ever. read more

I'm holding my face in my palm...another once-favorite trending down. They really had some of the best flavors I've missed since moving back from Kuwait, but man... I took someone there recently who loved an "old souk" experience as much as I did. What in the heck happened to this place? The falafel, and knowing this having been frequent patrons, is astonishing good when you order a freshly fried batch. We did that again, as per usual, and it came out to be rubbery vegetarian hockey pucks. The other dishes we ordered were still ok, but more stars coming off for the pita. Habibi, you know you can't eat a plate of hummus, babaganoush, and other sides which NEED pita to 1) balance the taste, and 2) to even pick it up. But you only give 1 pita per order? Please don't be penny wise and dollar poor. I've have seen too many iconic places close up because of poor choices like this. Upon entering, the restaurant was a little dark and uninviting. I would recommend adding more lighting. The ordering process was very straightforward. I've had many good meals here and many mediocre meals here throughout the years. This place is cafeteria style--grab a tray and figure out your meats and precooked sides. Here they do half portions of the sides when you order them with your meats. So one meat and two sides options turns into a one meat with four half sides. As for the sides, they have a wide array of cold sides along with a a few stand out hot sides. Love the cauliflower. I recommend ordering one of the options for fresh cooked meats instead of what is offered on the line. It takes then awhile longer to cook it, but it's worth it. The last time I ordered the chicken curry off the line, and the curry was super dry. Parking here is kinda a mess despite having two small designated lots. Either come early or come later than prime time, or you may be have to street park. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try this Mediterranean place and as a huge fan of Greek food, this restaurant was pretty good. I got the chicken kabob wrap with the creamy pasta salad. The pasta salad was absolutely delicious. It had olives, carrots, celery and dill in it as well as a delicious, creamy yogurt sauce. The wrap tasted pretty standard. The chicken was juicy and cooked and seasoned really well. I personally didn't like the bread used for the wrap and was thinking it'd be a gyro style pita sandwich. My boyfriend really enjoyed the lamb. It was super flavorful and the vegetables were soft and delicious. The sides were pretty good- the chickpeas being my favorite. I did really enjoy the caramelized onion hummus. The service was super quick and they gave us extra pita bread which I appreciated. All of this food costed about $50. Stopped by this place for lunch and left very satisfied. Everything I ordered here was delicious. It is served semi-cafeteria style. You grab your tray, they hand you pitas, order you entree, pick your sides and they ring you up. They bring out the entree to you once it's done. TL;DR - fantastic middle eastern food with excellent service. Don't miss the lamb gyro and pita bread omg the pita breads are like pillows :) Food - the lamb gyro was perfectly seasoned and the tzatziki sauce provided a mellow balance to the spices and meat flavor. I really loved their pita bread because they were freshly baked and were so soft and warm like pillows. I opened them up and stuffed them full of saffron rice, hummus, lamb, and tzatziki sauce. 110% fire food. Service - the employees at the counter were all super friendly and when I went to go get some pita bread to go (it's only 50¢ each what a steal), the dude gave me 2 fresh ones coming straight from the oven. I love these small gestures that make me feel very welcome. Ambiance - nice and clean interior with the counter where you order food on the right and some tables to sit at on the left. I am really disappointed at Aladdin based on last visit. The shawarma was not like they used make and I think it has a new owner. I ordered babanaug, tabouli and hummus. I have to asked for bread. I received two small bread for large containers. My son loves shawarma, lived in Mid East for years and he is half Mid Eastern so this is staple in the diet. He said it wasn't the same and my husband ate two bites. Very disappointed. The place needs remodeling, it isn't ADA accessible coming in and I am afraid this was the last visit. The counter staff was not English proficient, making ordering difficult. Prices are outrageous even in the economy. The food was displayed nicely and looked appetizing and some of tables are set for groups which is nice. read more

Delicious! Exactly the Lebanese I was looking for. Their food is outstanding. Several different options of kabobs, many options of meat that are not kabobs, several different types of hummus, many vegetable choices. Everything I've had there has been delicious. And it's nice that you can actually have some healthy choices too. So many Middle Eastern restaurants simply offer meat with rice hummus and salad and that's it. Not at aladdin. So many choices. Some of my favorites include the beat with jicama, the roasted cauliflower that has some sort of coating on it that makes it absolutely delicious, two different types of rice, I prefer the white one because it's got slivers of almonds and cranberries in it, they have mashed potato type balls that are filled that are is really good, and like I said a bunch of Veggie choices that I don't get other places. The hummus is also really good. Regular, spicy, onion, spinach, I'm sure I'm missing some. Never saw the onion before but it's really good. For the kabobs I'm hooked on the chicken chipotle. So tender and juicy with that extra kick to it. Even the fountain Coke is extra tasty. And I must not forget the most important! Their garlic sauce is on point. I always get extra. I'm coming from Los Angeles and I'm used to a lot of Lebanese food and this garlic sauce is perfect. Goes with everything. Especially they're fresh made pitas that are better better than a regular pita. I really can't say enough good things about their food.
